Title: Films you watch more than once a year?
Post by: paul waines on April 15, 2013, 05:00:27 PM
I'm curious about what films members watch more than once a year.  Those comfort films we'll just put on, to make an easy evening, when you can't be bothered concentrating on a new title..

For example if we go to bed early  ;)  we tend to watch one of the 12 Rathbone/Bruce, Sherlock Holmes films. So we can watch all of them maybe 3/4 times a year. Same thing with the Weissmuller, Tarzan's.
Beast from 20,000, and It came from beneath the Sea, are on regular, this isn't counting Universal Horror, and Hammer...    I do watch A&C Meet Frankenstein several times a year.. :D
And Yes Rosa, Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, Angles with dirty faces, Hobson's choice, quite a lot of older stuff.

Modern-ish films include Day after tomorrow, Silence of the Lambs, Blues Brothers, Hunt for Red October,

Whats on your More than once a year list?

Not many for me, I still have and will always have I assume too many I haven't seen yet, but the last year or so I've watched TOKYO GORE POLICE a lot of times.

The Rathbone Holmes I agree are great for lazy nights, and possibly I'd watch a couple of these more than once a year lately.

As a teenager I would repeat viewings more, dawn of the dead and Texas chainsaw massacre I have watched so many times it's stupid, not so much in the last twenty years though.

I do put The Wicker Man on quite often to sleep to, as it's good to just listen if your eyes are tired but brain isn't quite there yet.

Movies I really like I may watch more than once a decade.

LOTR  ( MOSTLY TWO TOWERS)...

I saw that one in an IMAX theater a couple years ago for the first time since it was originally released.  Very good movie.  cool1

It's a bit different for me because I sometimes watch a film at work more than once if it was failed and returned or if it was re-ordered with closed captioning.  So I don't really count that because I don't choose to watch them.

At home, on the weekends, we like the 'turn your brain off' stuff that can be fun and family-ish friendly, so - Harry Potter films, LOTR films, Pirates, any of the Superhero flicks... my personal favorites are Galaxy Quest, Evolution, and Ghostbusters.

I used to run a little shipping store and we would just loop surf films like Step Into Liquid and Baraka and Powaqqatsi and stuff like that.  Cool topic!

It has great acting (very convincing, in fact mouth wateringly so), and it also has a fascinating storyline. I see you are familiar with it and must agree.

LOTR trilogy
Blues Brothers
MP & The Holy Grail
Life of Brian
Apollo 13
Midnight Run
Thomas Crowne Affair (Brosnan)
Italian Job (Wahlberg)
Oceans 11 (Clooney)
Finding Nemo
Ratatouille
Wall E
Monsters Inc
Toy Story trilogy
Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein

Those are the ones that come to mind. I guess I rewatch a lot of stuff. There's a whole lot of other movies I watch once a year too.

Some interesting stuff here, I tend to watch Empire Strikes Back more than the other two...
And for some reason I watch Son of Frankenstein, and Frankenstein meets the Wolfman more
than Franky or Bride??  Don't ask me why..

I do have a lot of once a year films too. Mad Max being one, I notice Ted picked MM2 over the
first, but I think Car nuts prefer the first one, and the rebellious go for the second... ;)   And if
your dead from the neck up MM3....

Saving private Ryan is a once or twice, because as well as being a great film the sound is amazing
if you have a good set-up. We always run Band of Brothers at least once, and now The Pacific is ran
shortly after. When I think about it, I watch quite a lot of War films. All the British one's are on quite
a lot, Above us the waves, The Cruel Sea, Dam busters, In which we serve, we dive at Dawn, etc

Taken in total, it is exceptional.  The last line is guaranteed to bring a tear to the eye of anyone with a heart...

Of the films I listed earlier, I have FIVE posters.

But there are posters I will never get. Sorry. I can watch Twilight when my brain needs a non-brainer. But I ain't buying the poster. No.

Let's see, in no particular order and sometimes just certain scenes:
Christmas Story, Wrath of Kahn, Blade Runner (original), Fifth Element, Elf, Scrooged, Matrix (1st one), Christmas Vacation, Notting Hill (something I don't totally understand; it's enjoyable somehow), Princess Bride, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula (Lugosi), original Ghostbusters, Several of the Miyazki/Studio Ghibli animated movies, Jeremiah Johnson, Star Wars, Pink Panther (Sellers and also the Steve Martin version), Young Frankenstein, Marx Brothers, Three Stooges shorts, Planet of the Apes (original), and Omega Man (Heston).  Gosh, I want to also say some more films considered high art as well as some of my favorite non-English language films, but that would be untrue for this thread!  Okie
