Title: Authentication of signatures
Post by: syracuselaxfan on March 30, 2013, 05:26:12 AM
Is there someone, somewhere who authenticates Hollywood (actor, director, producer, etc..) signatures? At a price that isn't more than the poster itself is worth? My boxes of mystery have yielded a LOT of signed movie posters and a few theater cards. I believe the place I got them from was legitimate, but there's no proof that they're authentic.

I could have a look myself if you can post them on here. Alternatively there are autograph sites/forums that may help, such as Autograph Magazine live...

Once I get the current batch of posters photographed and cleared out I'll try and get decent photos of the signed posters up here. Thank you.

Provenance would also help.

All of my Mystery Box posters came from a Profiles In History auction in 2008, auctioning the contents of The Collector's Bookstore in Hollywood, CA. I bought 2 bulk lots of what I expected to be mostly modern posters and have found some real special stuff, including a large roll of signed posters. In the roll was hand penciled notes denoting what signatures are on what poster. I haven't gone through the roll yet to match all the info, but will when I have space. I never expected to find anything like this and I'm not quite sure what to do with them.

I wish everyone could do this! I just need more free time to devote to it. A better camera too  :P

I've been wondering about this too as I have just finished moving my collection into display books?
I have my doubts over a few and would like to know.

Can you post the ones you have doubts about?

Did the free time and better camera either ever develop?  :D

Or did the autographed poster picture taking get sidelined?

Hope you found some interesting sigs, in any case, too.

Thanks for asking, but poster collecting, picture taking and treasure hunting the autographs has taken a back seat to everything. Maybe within the next 6 months I'll have some time to devote to it, but no promises.

Looks good to me Ari, and the price you paid was a steal, great addition to the collection.

LOL there has still been no change or update. Maybe I'd have time if I cut out watching movies, but that isn't going to happen. I even stopped visiting this site for a very long time because it drove me nuts reading about the hobby, but unable to devote time and funds to it. Maybe someday I'll check in here with better news lol
