Title: Screen/Posted Image Size?
Post by: Dread_Pirate_Mel on February 17, 2013, 08:33:51 AM
What is your screen size and what should the standard size for posted images be?

Below is a screenshot of my new 2560x1440 monitor. (The screen shot has been shrunk to 1500 pixels horizontal). You can see that the 1000 pixel (vertical) poster appears rather small.

I use a 2560x1600 (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&sku=224-9949) monitor however I guess most peoples are quite a bit smaller. To find out what people use you can create a poll or ask H or T to provide stats from the site web logs, or see what people generally use here (http://www.jwag.biz/newsletters/2013/02/01/screen-resolution-statistics-from-december-2012.html)

I'd say images posted at 1000px (horiz) * 800px (vertical) should be the largest to post so near everyone can see it in full glory (unless they are on mobile devices which have small screens). You can link that image to a larger version image as I do sometimes (http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,2899.msg106923.html#msg106923)

I have a 27" Samsung on 1920 x 1080 resolution and a second 19" monitor to the right of it on 1280 x 1024. I've found that a 1000 pixel image is perfectly cropped at these resolutions on both...  And I don't have to squint my eyes sore seeing anything.

Well, actually I can't go any higher than 1920 x 1080 - video card?  The Samsung is an HD TV?

This is my desktop, it is a screen resolution of 1680 x 1050 (shown proportionally as 1000px x 652px here).

An industry bible for these sorts of statistics can be found here: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp - I'd be very surprised if screen size by most members is super large.

I generally post (poster) images that are 530px x 800px or thereabouts (vice versa for landscape) which means on my screen an image takes up just under one third the width and about 80% of the height as you can see by the screenshot- I feel it should be as much about the download time of the page (bandwidth) as the size, a lot of people save their images at too high a resolution (when posting them here) when the reality is there is no need to, 100kb or less is perfectly fine.

The standard size for the two biggest poster image posters (for a one sheet): Bruce's image before the SUPERsize image is 550px × 823px; whereas Heritage's is 450px × 674px BOTH usually 100kb or less

1680x1050 on my laptop.

David, you should show a reference poster image along with your desktop image for comparison.
Oh wait, there it is on the left. Took me a while to notice it.  :o

I need an Australian wife.  She seems to be awfully "understanding" of David's, er, predilections....

Funnily enough they're everywhere over here...

My wife is a 'veteran' of the fashion & lingerie industry, near naked beautiful women is something I had to get used to early on. She has an appreciative eye for beautiful women and beautiful imagery.

This sounds damn frustrating. I share your pain.

Luckily, in my past life, I was hiring models in London for photoshoots, and they wore only sweat or body lotion

1680x945 (18.4" screen).  About the biggest you will ever see on a laptop.
