Title: Political threads on APF
Post by: eatbrie on August 31, 2012, 11:05:29 PM
While political debates are healthy, especially in the couple of 2 months...

please remember that this is primarily a poster forum and that we don't need 4 open threads on the same topic:

They pretty much all say the same thing.

Romney - 'Charitable Contributions = Tax"
"Obama's A-Coming."
Fuck the Liberal Agenda !!!!!!
Republican National Convention thread

I think there's more than that.

Sure, but only 4 are active at the moment.

Maybe I should just consolidate them into one, but I'm afraid people will lose continuity.

Funny how you had no problem with 17 pages of "Fuck the Tea Party", or "Obamacare Upheld" , and "Mitt Lied."  And you have a sub-forum labeled Life, Politics, and the World.  Simply, make all sub forums about posters and you will get poster responses. And since all liberal responses are pretty much the same nonsense why don't you consolidate all of your political diatribes into one thread.

I would think that, since he built it, he can do whatever the heck he wants, but you have to be either exceptionally petty or particularly ignorant to see this thread as an 'attack'...

I don't have ANY problems letting people express themselves.  Do it as much as you want.  I'm liberal, you're not, I don't give a shit.  It's called democracy and I for one will never go against it, even if I vehemently disagree with some of your comments.  But 4 open threads on the same topic in a poster forum seems a little much to me.

Oh, and BTW, I never even saw the 2 threads you're talking about.  I started the tea party one.  If I had seen them, or if they were active today, I would say the exact same thing.  I think one thread for the left and one thread for the right are more than enough.

How about keeping

Fuck the liberal agenda on one side and fuck the tea party on the other.

Does that work for you?

That seems like a fair and balanced approach.   wynk

And yes, this is your house, your rules. No problem with that since you built it. (Though you should probably thank Al Gore for inventing the internet. laugh1)   I never considered this thread an attack, just oddly timed since there has been a run of threads going the other way at the same time over the last couple of years.

I don't know if you guys noticed but Holiday and I are very much hands off people.  Although we started this forum and keep it running, we pretty much leave the rest up to you guys.  As long as you all remain somewhat cordial to each others, it is your forum.  We will not decide anything without asking you guys first.  It is this approach that has made APF popular, unlike MPF and its control Nazi.

I believe that Brian was being sarcastic.
But you see it as an 'attack' and then label him "exceptionally petty or particularly ignorant?"
I see that as an 'attack.'

Oh, of course you do.  Sarcasm you say?  No shit...

Lemme break it down for you... If he saw T's post as an attack, then he would have two options - 1) Exceptionally Petty or 2) Particularly ignorant.  He didn't see it as an attack, therefore 1 & 2 don't come into play...

Good try...

Hahahahahahaha.
Your veiled insults are your calling card.
Nobody does it as smoothly as you.
It is in your DNA.

But wait... you're slipping.
It took you over an hour to formulate a response.
I've seen worms get off the hook much faster.

Folks, this isn't a political thread.  It is a thread about restraint.  Not the place for responses that essentially say "I know you are, but what am I?"

Really?

The whole point of this thread was to suggest we stop generating endless political threads.  It didn't say "don't talk politics".  So why not put the "My side rules and your side sucks" into one of the existing threads?  IMHO, this particular thread has served its purpose and should be locked down rather than be used as yet another opportunity to spread bad will.

No, I am not taking sides here.

Really? I disagree completely. At least about American's in general being passionate about politics.

In reality, most Americans could care less about them. And out of the ones that do show some small amount of interest in it, the vast majority have no idea what they're talking about, what's actually going on, any of the details of pending/passed/etc. legislation, who's who in politics (outside of the major contenders), etc. All in all, American's really don't care. Sure they will make comments on message boards or Facebook or Twitter, but usually just general things that would directly affect them. But when it comes to putting forth effort into doing research or god forbid do something that involves going outside of the house, we are extremely apathetic. If I recall correctly, only about 50% of eligible voters actually go out and vote for the PRESIDENT. That means that half of our country can't even go out and spend an hour or two to decide who they want to run the country for the next four years. And don't get me started on local/county/state elections. I would be surprised if the number averaged 10-20%. The ones that do vote probably only vote for whomever they saw the most billboards for.

Compared to most other countries, I think we have horrible political awareness and activity. I remember going to Belize for a trip, and the people there were exponentially more involved in politics, even at a local level. Everyone we spoke to was happy to talk about various issues. Each town, in general, supported a certain political party (there were two major ones) and were quite vocal about it. I believe many other countries have a similar mentality.

I think Americans, by and large, are spoiled. While our two major parties have different agendas and points of view on a wide variety of issues, it's not like anything major is going to change depending on who wins. Sure, if Obama lost we wouldn't have passed the Obamacare bill, which has an impact on the majority of people, but I'm talking about changing the way of life for a person. In many countries, especially ones that went through recent political unrest or have shakier governments, politics are a huge factor in day to day life. People will kill over elections. And the voter turnout is significantly greater.

Americans are more concerned with who wins American Idol then the presidency.

Sadly, a lot of what James said rings true.
Some people feel that their vote doesn't count or they are voting for the 'lesser of two evils.'
I believe that they are wrong on both counts.

I disagree too.

I don't know about the Brits, but I can tell you the French are equally passionate about politics, if not more than Americans.  Actually, way more than Americans (which is probably why I am so into it.)  Growing up in France, every single conversation turned into politics, even if it initially had nothing to do with it.  Then it turned into fights and someone would eventually leave the table.  I think it's the Latin blood.  I went to France 4 times this year and nothing has changed, especially in an election year, like it was this year for Sarkozy and Hollande.  Politics, politics, politics, left, right, Communists Vs. Socialists Vs. Democrats Vs. Republicans Vs. Extreme Right.  Choose your freakin' camp and trash the others.

This gives him credit where it's not due.  He's just a sad little man.  I pity him that for the sake of that dustbowl he calls a forum that he can't participate here or on NS4.  Even when he tries on MOPO, he always ends up up going ass to mouth - his foot in his ass, then in his mouth.

It is this approach that has made APF popular, unlike MPF and its control Nazi.
