Title: Bob Peak
Post by: Dread_Pirate_Mel on June 17, 2012, 01:46:03 PM
Post your favorite Bob Peak artwork and posters in this thread.

To start it off, I've rounded up some unused concept art from various sites on the Internet, including the official Bob Peak website (http://www.bobpeak.com) and The Sanguine Fine Art (http://sanguinfineart.com/gallery/tag/movie-poster-art) gallery, which is selling several of his original art paintings. I think you'll agree that many of these are spectacular and qualify as "fine" art.

New book (http://www.bobpeak.com/bob-peak-book/) coming out.

New book, great !!
Thanks for sharing !

One of my favorite Peak posters is the German C-Style for APOCALYPSE NOW. One of the few times I was angry at myself, not really knowing what was going on: I was lucky and had two mint copies in the 80s. Didn't realize how sought-after they became in the 90s and sold them both at Film Fairs for about $80.00 each. Years later I saw them at Galleries in London and Paris for $800 - 1.200,00
and thought ''WHAT THE F...!''
Never thought an 80s (OK, 1979) poster could be worth that much.
But the postergod was nice to me and I recently got another copy in a poster lot, 'won't sell this one for $80.- now I guess:

The Bob Peak thread has been long over due.

As you can all see I am a Bob Peak fan. I have been working on a frame rotation I call project Peak for a while now. Its not done and it is stiil a work in progress. I still need a couple of frames and poster switches but it is coming together. This is where we stand tonight....

The first step as was posted in the whats on your walls thread.

Might or might not be what gets the quad frame.

Guys, that Dark Crystal is definitely not a Bob Peak. When I added my copy (http://www.filmonpaper.com/posters/the-dark-crystal-one-sheet-advance-usa/) to my site I did some investigation into who was responsible and a reader of the site got in touch to confirm who the artist was (Bob Lee Hickson).

Bob Peak did do Dark Crystal artwork, which can be seen on the Japanese poster. (http://www.filmonpaper.com/posters/the-dark-crystal-b2-crystal-style-japan/)

I think that this is not Peak but David Grove. Cool poster though.

The Peak art would look like this. Unused concept art.

Agree the art is too good for the movie. Rollerball will never make my top 1,000 movies list.

I started out collecting posters for the movies I liked and then branched into a very few specific actors, directors, themes and artists. Peak has gotten the lion share of my artist love.

My 4 year old daughter had begged and begged to let her help with backing a poster.  Superman had lately become her favorite.  So she helped wash and lay this one out on the masa...  Momma did the touch-ups...  Mel provided the poster as part of a trade for his backings...

Wasnt going to post these cause I was bit humbled by the quality of posters posted on this forum lately but after looking at that laughable 20 million dollar joke of a blotch in another thread I felt much better about my collection of $10 posters. Its all personal. Its not about money or faux genius , its all about us and what we like.

My latest Bob Peak crap.  :)

Great stuff. Page after page of quality. Bob was a very busy man there for a while. Between movie posters, Time and TV Guide covers, Advertising, Olympics, sports, fashion, travel  and just his own art there was a lot going on.

Price was steep but it is good stuff. I am a bit worried about the book falling apart. Its heavy and I dont have a soft touch.  8)

Tob, I have it and have to say it's worth every penny as it's brilliantly put together and is pretty much exhaustive in its contents. It contains a load of alternate designs and roughs of his other work that are exclusive to the book. You won't get hit by customs either as books pass through free. Go for it!

It is definitely loaded. For example, there is much Rollerball and especially Apocalyspe Now that I had not seen before.

I'm a huge fan of Bob Peak too, love his art, and have many of his poster designs.

Oh, how I long to go to that exhibition. If I sold my two most valuable posters, I could probably make it and am pondering on this right now.  It'd be a once in a lifetime experience.  The field trip idea is a brilliant one. Perhaps we need a charity for impoverished but passionate poster collectors?  :-)

For those in the UK, this amazing book is on amazon.co.uk at the moment for £69.00 + £2.80 postage.

I got my copy from seller Amazonbookpalace, it says that it is used however it is brand new, still shrink wrapped and in presentation box,  and arrived in one day. Definitely worth the dosh, it's a quality product and £2.80 postage is a dream as it weighs about 4 kilos.

Don't need to fund this.  Anyone in the US can fly into Austin for a Mondo "show" (like the upcoming Ansin show), buy a bunch of prints, flip 'em, and then fly to Glendale.  You'd at least break even....

So I was at my friend's house today for the first time and noticed he had the Bob Peak hardcover book.  I casually opened the front cover and found an photo of him as a kid with Mr. Peak.  Of course, as a collector, my casual interest turned into holy-shit-interest :o.  This guy, having no idea I collect posters, said, "Oh yeah, that is my great uncle Bob.  He did art for a bunch of movies, my favorite is his Apocalypse Now stuff."  I then explained that I actually collect film art and have quite a few of his great uncle's posters.  As it turns out, Bob Peak was his grandma's brother.  Small world........

Great story, Schan..

i like these kinds of stories and the randomness of either meeting people or discovering things like this about friends, relatives, etc.

A seeming small world, at times.

Tongdee had me purchase the Peak book for him earlier this year. I believe Peak is his greatest influence.

Great minds...  Mwright, Has Tongdee mentioned if Peak and he ever interacted?  They certainly overlapped some in time and movie posters they created.  Okie

Not in collaboration with Tongdee, but these 2 rejected, early poster concepts for Star Trek II, done by Peak and artist, Spiros Angelikas

Nice 3-D parts seemingly coming out of these designs, Jeff.  Also, perhaps looks like a little homage in small places to the great SF book cover artist Richard Powers. Sorry, I can't resist, "Kahhhhhhhhnnnnnn!" Wait, is that too many "N's"? Okie
