FYI: If any of you guys check my website regularly (I get between 70-100 visitors a day, so I assume some do), it will be down for 3 weeks.
Our server broke.

Well, I guess it's up right now, but it was down an hour ago and the wife expects it to go down again for good.
-
Well, my website is still down, and since my wife is the only one who can fix it, it might be down for some time.
I came back from vacation to dozens of tubes and packages. This is the first batch of what I recently acquired. More to come later.

What great posters to come home to thumbup
Perky Brigitte (in God Created Women) is my fav, and maybe Notorious, but they are all superb
-
What a beautiful lot of posters. Very nice.
-
SORRY for poor pic, but I had this Brides as above, but also this version
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v33/posterfreak/ZZZZZZ/French/DSC01438.jpg)
Notice, despite the obvious logo etc.
But I was surprised that the artwork was different also.
Easiest to notice is the woman on his rights face. But theres lots of differences. Before I handled them both together I assumed they used the same art.

Ha,there he is.Good to see ya again,T.Nice paper! Whatyda up to now,900,020 posters?

Those Ballesters are stunning.
cheers

Some very, very nice pieces Thierry!
Especially love the Bogie ;)
-
Thanks all. My favorite of this first batch is Hamlet, but I think it has to be seen in person to judge. Ballester is just something else. I would love to start a collection, but they're just so damn expensive. Maybe one at a time.
Thanks for the kind words.

Hey stranger!!! I didn't know you were back. What did it take me... 6, 7 attempts to lure you? Glad to have you with us. For those of you who don't know him, Anthony was my guide when I first started collecting. He taught me a lot.
And no, not 900,020 posters. Just 7,000 +. But I'm working at it.

I've got to agree with Mark, that Captain Phantom is jollygood...

Solid additions there, Thierry.

See what you've done? 11 or so years ago when I started collecting, I only had 100 posters, most of them from the 90s. 7,000 posters later, I'm still around, and even got together with my partner in crime to create this little forum. Yes, you've truly created a monster.
T

if this is all Anthony's fault, I may just have to ban him from NS4 ;)

Gee, you're getting some serious stuff now, well done. Very nice indeed. Any hints where you found all this stuff ;)

Damn... I don't know which of those five I like the best. They are all gorgeous.
I'm partial to JEKYLL AND HYDE and Anselmo Ballester... but, Martinati's SAYONARA is absolutely amazing.

All of these came from a collector. No auction, no dealer, just person to person. The right way.

My taste are constantly evolving. I first went for the 80s, my movie decade. Then I slowly moved to the 70s and 60s. Now that I own 90% of what I ever wanted to own from the 80s, 70% of the 70s and 50% of the 60s, I'm moving to the 50s. And then the 40s. Not interested in the 30s and silent cinema, so I will stick to post 40s. There is still a lot to do.

Very nice, T.
Sometimes, you just have to shell out, when the opportunity presents itself.
True beauties, all. clap

Exactly right. This is the most I've ever spent on a single batch of posters, but it's still about 40% less than dealer prices on these posters. I will for sure never find these posters on Ebay, so I might as well get them when they pop up. The collector I bought them from has more stuff for me, but the wife won't let me spend another penny. So I have to wait a few months until I can go for another batch.

Well, that's what happens when you come home from a trip with 40 tubes waiting at the door so that she can trip over them and break her neck hauling in the luggage while you drool over your new acquisitions rather than her rockin' bod.
Idiot.
-
BTW, you're so close to the truth. The guy who was housesitting when I was gone sent me this email half way though my trip...
"Stop it!!! No more packages! You are not allowed to order anymore packages/posters while away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS-you are still are very important man even if the mail man doesn't deliver you posters everyday!"

That's scary, man. When your housesitter is telling you that, you're really on the edge of reality.

So I'm thinking of revamping my website.
Since I'm beginning to own a few nice pieces and I feel I may have something to show with pictures of my 11,400 posters, I wonder if I shouldn't try to expand beyond this forum (I've never thought of advertising my website beyond my signature below) and try to reach more folks interested in movies and/or posters. With that intent in mind, I will begin to look for someone here in LA who can do computer work and retool the whole damn thing. New look, search engine and an easier way for me to dump information onto the site.
My question is, how do you go to search for someone like this and how much should you be willing to pay someone for the work?
Ideas? Thanks.
T
-
I recently hired a web developer using the freelancer.com website. You write a pitch/specification with your requirements and people bid for the work. You can then discuss over the instant messaging system and choose someone and get started. They have a milestone payments system so you can set up part payments and release them when goals are met.
Regarding cost, the guy I used is cheap and pretty good, but it is quite hands on in terms of testing and feedback to him (mainly as my gallery needs were fiddly). I imagine you can have a much less hands on experience if you want to pay more than I did.
-
^ I've been curious how this would work out, interesting. Good luck! thumbsup.gif

^ I've been curious how this would work out, interesting. Good luck! thumbsup.gif
My 3 cents from experience. Doing this for a living and being in charge of my companies web development team it is my job to hire and oversee freelancers from time to time when we have too much work coming in and find them on a number of sites.
In short like anything you get what you pay for. If they have a really cheap rate you get really cheap coding that may or may not be up to current standards in design, architecture, notations, programming conventions and most importantly security. If you are going to use a freelancer from any site I strongly recommend at a minimum using a site that has their freelancers take skills tests in the areas you need or at least the advanced areas you need. Brie for example if you are looking for a strong database driven site, most likely you are, make sure that they are proficient in the back end programming language that you are going to use. For example PHP and MySQL as well as the front end languages needed such as jQuery, Javascript, HTML/5, CCS/3, etc. if using one person for all aspects. Programmers that are willing to and have taken these tests often cost more but the end result in time spent and longevity is worth the price. We can find $25hr programmers all day long but in the end the time needed to complete a project, oversite, code review, etc. more often than not greatly exceeds the cost of having hired a $100hr programmer at the start.
Before you even start looking for them write out a plan for what you want including interface, general appearance, etc. Think of things like do I want the site to be visible primarily on a regular computer screen, primarily mobile or both. The little things thought out before hand can have a huge impact on the project price rather than adding or changing them later.
-
The less customization you do the cheaper it will be. You can get someone that is proficient in something like php/mysql and wordpress to kick something out pretty quick with all the prebuilt wordpress stuff. It is also very important to have something built that you can take over the administration on, you dont want to pay someone to build then also be constantly maintaining, so make sure you fully understand the admin/new addition process once they turn it over.
-
What are you currently using to upload content on your website ? Do you do everything with HTML codes or is there a administrative panel ? Secondly, do you use a database... if yes what are the fields ?
1/ Whatever you do first, make sure you have a backup of your website - code, content, database, images
2/ If you don't mind reuploading/redoing everything yourself; easiest solution is to have something like Wordpress installed on your server and reupload all content (categories; tags, etc.). Wordpress is easy to use, customable and database oriented... but before you do, make sure you sit with programmer and set the Wordpress custom fields (like author; year, etc.)
3/ Another option is indeed to hire a freelancer. As Undead said above, you usually get what you paid for and a great programmer is fast resulting sometimes in cheaper price than poor programmer :) Make sure you know what you want and don't ask for unecessary things.
***************
For a search engine, since it is indexed by Google, any search restricted to your domain name on Google (or other) will do (e.g. https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Aeatbrie.com+Pantalon )
Easier way to dump content as opposed to ? I can't imagine you uploaded 11400 postersd by hand (y)
*************
In my opinion, your website is great and don't need much. Also, unless you really want to tackle all devices, I would stick to simple responsive design (to fit all screen sizes) and would avoid to have any funny javascript or Jquery code, they are nice but at the end, there is always a bug or compatibility problem on certain devices and it can become a nightmare. Don't forget, old skool is good and robust :)
Last but not least, if you want to expand your site, I would focus more on branding, web activities, marketing, social networks, etc. Get "eatbrie" account on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook (or page), Twitter, etc (you can use IFFTTT to automatise these tasks). Add share/like buttons on your website, etc. Increasing your internet activities and doing having web marketing strategy will have a much more impact than a revamp of your website.
I have been in web developing (as a hobby luckily) for many years. Not in LA though but if you need advice or help, I would be happy to assist. Personally, I would install Wordpress on server and roll on (or ask you host to do it for you). First, don't forget, please backup !!
Cheers

Add a search bar if possible and call it a wrap :)

How about a "buy it now" button?

These two options would be great.

Thank you all for the great recommendations. I will definitely look into what Tob mentioned. It seems like a good idea. I don't know yet what I want, a complete redo and a tweaking. I know it has ran its course. I would probably have to change the domain name too. Eatbrie doesn't necessarily spell movie posters. If only my wife had an interest in posters. She could probably do it in half a day, since she created the original website back in 2000 and it took her an hour or so. Alas, she doesn't and she will not.

T
Or we can help too... I am sure some of us would be ready to help.
It is an easy process...
A/ You buy a new domain name at 10 USD per year (I recommend NameCheap.com)
B/ You buy a web host (100 USD shared host at Hostgator)
C/ Someone web-savvy set up a Wordpress (it takes minutes)
D/ We (the few ready to help) can then register in Wordpress as editor and agree on custom fields.
E/ We slowly upload posts and pictures while the web guy improve wordpress theme and set up custom fields.
Regarding EatBrie, it doesn't spell posters but sometimes unique "brandable" names are better than common long names.
As for me, I would be ready to help if needed.
Cheers
-
I agree, keep Eatbrie, I couldn't remember the name of the forum and knew it wasn't mpf, so I googled your name that I remembered and finally found this forum. You can always set up a redirector domain name to point to your site if you wanted a name more suited to movie posters.
-
I'm another for staying eatbrie.com. On the web memorable is often better than descriptive.
-
I agree. Searching for anything "movie posters" online will get you a zillion options. Something like "eatbrie", once the viewer stumbles on it, is far easier to remember to return to later.
-
Yeah, and when looking to buy some brie online, visit allposters.com
:P
-
As a webmaster, memorable is better than a titlegrab. Stick with the original domain. Tags, Social Media/Recognition go far beyond any .com name would. The website name is the last thing you should worry about as long as its catchy. You are who you are for those reasons like we all are. Capitalize on what you already have.
Stick with it!
-
Regardless, you don't want to make money from it, so leave as is.
-
12,000 movie posters and lobby card sets at Eatbrie.com (http://eatbrie.com/)
In November 2014, I passed the 10,000 poster mark, and today, 12,000 with this guy... ;D
(https://c6.staticflickr.com/8/7596/27066348093_b9c1bbd12a_z.jpg)
12,000 posters advertising 3,967 movies. Not the largest collection ever, but probably the largest online private collection. If you can think of another one, let me know.
T
-
Gratz, T.
And the cool thing is.. in a year or 2, you will still know just where to find Dory. ;D
-
This sounds excessive
-
:o Congrats T,
thank god you opted for this rather than your second collecting passion that is, beanie babies ;D
You will get the whole set for FD I presume... :P
-
How much space do 12,000 posters take up?
-
How much space do 12,000 posters take up?
Very little room if you're organized. I have 8 flat file cabinets filled with folded posters, neatly organized by countries and size. My rolled posters are in tubes of 50, all of them in absolute mint condition. Everything is packed away, but easily accessible. I have a very precise spread sheet that allows me to find anything within 2 minutes. Finding is never a problem, it's putting back that kills, especially because everything has to be so perfectly stacked. I've actually had people come to my house and never know that I collect posters (simply because they couldn't see any.)

No, no beanie babies, but I started collecting those Sideshow premium format figures. I have a dozen in my office and my wife is screaming bloody murder.
I just bought this one, although it doesn't come until next year.
I have 3 more being delivered before the end of this year, and they're kind of big. I'm wondering how I can hide them from the wife and keep the kids' paws away from it ;)
T
-
Sideshow puts out AMAZING sculpts, there is no doubt about that. Their quality control and attention to the finest details are all top notch.
-
Very cool Aliens piece, T.
cheers

Thanks. I already have the loader and the Queen, so the King was a must. Can't wait to line them up and make them fight.
T

Moving has begun. First thing first, moving the rolled posters from the back of the garage to the front where they can be easily picked up. There are on average 35 posters per tube. About 30 more tubes are in a different location.

I thought maybe you were gonna post saying that now that Holiday was back and posted his thoughts you decided to sell everything to me.

Impressive organization skills, and nice whiteboard art. thumbup thumbup

You can go 1 or 2 more stacks high on those flatfiles, the base can hold it. Build up, not out :)
-
Can I ask how you know what is in where?
The box / tubes seem not to have any labels on them. Or are they all neatly turned away rom the front to maintain a clean frontage?
Any chance you can unify the longer tubes? They seem out of place next to the soldier-neat uniformity of the box tubes.
-
Glad the move went smoothly, T.
It all looks great. No bumps, dings or snafus, either.

Are you sure about that? I'm about to get 20 more drawers (2 boxes x2) because everything underneath is completely maxed out. Each drawer had to be taken out and carried separately. I want to say they're at least 50 pounds each. Are you sure I can add more weight to it?

Yeah, it's from the previous owner. Haven't had a chance to take it down yet. I'll put my Magic personally signed jersey there.

Each tube is labeled and I have an extensive database that tells me exactly where each poster is. I know what I spent on each poster, where I got it from, the name of the seller, when I got it, the condition of the poster, the cast, etc. I can find any poster in my collection within 2 minutes. Finding is easy, putting it all back to what I consider perfect alignment and stacking is very time consuming. I won't show you the inside of the drawers, but let's just say it's extremely tidy.
And no, I can't put the larger posters in the same tubes since I collect from all around the world and posters come in different sizes. 40x60in, 47x69in, banners, etc...

You know what, they were going to help for free, but half way through the day, I felt bad and decided to give them something. This was beyond friendship. Plus, I don't want them to ask me for help in the future. I'd much rather pay ;)

Yeah... I know u are that kind of guy.... so just pullin' the proverbial leg on ya.
Glad the poster children arrived safe 'n sound.

I have seen them 4 high, but the companies all say to only stack 3 high as long as you use the low bases you have. If you have the higher base with the bookshelves under it you can only go 2 high. So 3 high , you should be good to go, check the brands websites to be sure, but I have never heard of any you can't stack 3 high.

I can't believe I have 2 posters up on my walls right now. That's right, TWO!!!
Twins' birthday party this weekend, 3 years old, having some 70 guests at the house, and the theme is ET. My kids are obsessed with it. So I went to U to pick up some props and I dug up some posters for decoration. We'll have a life size ET in the backyard, Reese's pieces galore, daisies to take home, the soundtrack playing non stop throughout the house, the movie on every screen, you get the gist.

Your house does seem quite awesome.
For 70 guests, I have to hire facilities elsewhere...!
Or will all your guests be in the ocean?

We used to throw a lot of big parties, at least 3 a year, then pretty much nothing since the kids came into our lives. Looking forward to Saturday.
T
-
I bet.
Here's hoping future parties also cry out for the rare poster displays...
Have fun sir.

Looks good, enjoy. My sympathies on the constant sound track though think I would lose it after so many hours and change it to Jaws or something for fun.

Very impressive storage facility. You must have a warehouse for that lot. Where is your web site please?

Do you know where that thread is where you posted your Laurent Durieux posters. Been looking for it and I canno find it.

Wow, that storage and organization looks awesome. Hell, I would have flown myself out to help you move for free just to be exposed to such poster awesomeness. :)
The ET party sounds awesome. I tried to do something similar for my daughter's Finding Nemo / Dory themed 3rd birthday party. Bought some Finding Dory banners (pics soon), but they didn't arrive in time. Bought a Finding Dory 6- or 8-sheet (pics soon), but there wasn't anywhere to put it on the wall at the restaurant where we had the party. Alas, had to settle for Party City decorations.

Yeah, we had more guests than we thought we would. Around 70, so it was a bit crazy. We spent so much money, worked on it so hard, had a life size ET in the backyard, a bouncy house, and it's all a blur. You try to talk to your friends and then they're gone. And our kids only start school tomorrow... Yikes, can you imagine what it will be next year when they make all these new friends and I meet their hot beach moms? I won't do it at the house again, though. Just too much work. Our cleaning lady worked the whole day Sunday from 8am to 6pm to clean the house.

Just been looking through your site. Awesome, one hell of a collection. HOw does one afford to buy so many posters every month. It's totally awesome. Well done getting such a fantastic collection together. Do you ever sell any at all?

Is the Thunderball a 1 sheet, or 30x40?
Might just the angle and perspective etc... Or my eyesight.

I hate 30x40s... the worst size ever imo, so you'll never see one in my collection. Just OS with large white borders. Not for me.

It looks so tiny and cute next to the 4-foglio!

Yeah, the 4F is pretty big. Still can't believe I fucked up so badly on the Fistful. That's the problem when you bid on your phone while at the beach. I couldn't see shit.

Just had a look at your recent acquisitions on the site. Do the colors on that Stage Fright really pop like that? Either way it's gorgeous.

I am STILL drooling over the HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL 3-sheet. That is the ONE William Castle movie I have NO paper on. Yours is sooooo NICE!
-
My take... don't drool, never drool, unless it's over a super hot chick. Not over freakin' movie posters. No poster is worth it. Just be patient and your turn will come.
T

I had two posters linenbacked. I know it's not like me, but Le Fils de Caroline Cherie by Noël has horrible paper and is impossible to find in mint condition, and the Halloween is one of two I own and the folds were clearly visible due to its shiny paper. Good job by Mario.

Stunners, both of them T.

Thumbs up to Mario. He did those posters proud, T.
They look awesome.
-
For my money, he and Dario are the best in the biz. All the others, well, they just want your money.
T
-
I would also include Poster Mountain, Dan Miles (Backing To the Future) and 4th Cone Restoration as restorers who truly care about the work they do, as has been shown/posted by folks here on APF who have used them.
Ive used PM, and gone and met with John Davis and I never got the vibe that he was just out to take people's money. More expensive, yes, but then so are certain dealers. So it's all about choosing what and who works best with your budget.
And Ive used Mario, too. thumbsup.gif
-
More expensive, yes, but then so are certain dealers.
That's exactly it, and why I don't care about either. Like you said, to each his own.
T
-
Mario backed and did very lite work on my Hungarian 2001 A1 and did an outstanding job. He admittedly had some difficulty with the silver/metallic paper that was used. He submitted a scan too me, and I let him know that were a few areas that I thought could be looked at again and he agreed. Was very happy with the finished job, communication, and turn around.
-
And you can't beat Mario's service (if you are more local to him) in that he comes and picks up and then drops off the finished poster(s). thumbsup.gif
That's a great, personal touch, too, and getting to meet him face to face. And no shipping worries or concerns.
-
That's it... 13,000 posters and lobby card sets at Eatbrie.com (http://Eatbrie.com). I'm waiting for a few B1s for The Last Jedi to arrive and was hoping that they would be here on Star Wars' 40th Anniversary and my 13,000th, but it is a B2 for Godard's La Chinoise that made the cut.

Congratulations on your 13,000th poster in your collection (staggering...WOW!). BTW, i really LOVE that Australian HALLOWEEN you posted earlier. i have been wanting one for years. VERY nice...as are all of your other 12,999 posters. Zowie! My head is still spinning from the number... Ha! Bravo!

I just checked Emovie and it seems it shows up quite often. 6 times since 2010. Not bad. The next one will be yours, I'm sure.

Nice, T.
Impressive to say the least...

So, show off a little T, do you have the largest modern-centric MP collection in the world? I bet you do. Mark Lawd is probably top 5 too.
I know the Morris Everetts and Dwight Clevelands have larger vintage collections.

I'm sure I don't have the largest collection of anything, except maybe the largest privately owned poster collection online. That's it.
Remember, I only started collecting 17 years ago, so God willing, I intend to add a lot of posters to the collection over the next 17 years.
Also, I won't go earlier than 1940. I have zero interest in silent films and I only collect posters of movies I have seen. These are my limitations. And money of course. I don't intend to spend more than $10k on a single poster. Above $10k, I'd turn to fine art, not movie paper.

No way Mel, most of my collection fits into two 10-drawer cabinets and pretty much the last six decades are evenly represented. I buy perhaps 30 - 50 posters a year.

You and T are both being way too modest.
I had the privilege of perusing through your cabinets for two hours and got through only half your collection. You had/have many super-rare posters and some "unicorns," just for starters, many of which you've never publicized.
T's collection can be digitally perused by anyone of course.

And by the way, although it is true my collection is mostly modern (post 1980), I still have 800+ posters pre-1960. So not a lot, for sure, but a few.

The reason why Star Wars will not die anytime soon.
My 3 1/2 year old son requested, and I mean REQUESTED, a Star Wars poster in the frame. He is obsessed with Darth Vader. Darth Vader T-shits, toys, pictures all over (he's actually wearing a USC/Darth Vader T-Shirt on the picture). I showed him a bunch of posters and he chose this 40x60in poster. Now, I ran a 1/2 marathon this morning, I've had 6 IPAs since, I don't really feel like going through a tube, but how can I say no to this little smile.

Well, considering I add between 1,200 and 1,400 posters a year, you are a tiny bit off there, Mr. Mel. At 1,200/year, I would own 49,000 posters in 30 years. That would be a pretty decent collection.

No, collecting is my thing. It is not something I wish to pass on to my kids, because at the end of the day, it's a gigantic waste of time. I hope they can do better than that. I'll probably give my collection away or burn it before it happens.

Most human leisure activity is a waste of time:
- my ex spent endless hours interacting with her 700+ Facebook friends
- my coworker watches "every single" NASCAR race start to finish
- my childhood best friend plays the bagpipes, although to my ears every song sounds exactly the same
- you watch 1000 movies a year
- my sister gardens and worships her yippy dog
I could go on....
-
My point exactly. You always want better for your kids.
My family has been in the art business since 1850. All collectors. My father collected fine art, I moved to the US, got into the movie industry and now collect movie posters. It obviously a down slope that I will try very hard to end. Let my kids create their own "waste of time," and not subject them to mine.

T
I kind of feel the same way. Except that every penny I spend now really belongs to my kids later. If what I spend now on posters, stocks, or anything else can make their life better later, then so be it. They may never like posters at all. But, if they can sell them later and make it easier for them to send my grandkids to college or even to buy them a car, then who am I to deny them that. I enjoyed it, and it leaves something that they can use to make their life a little bit better. It will be up to them to decide what to do with them. I owe them that for the time I have spent over the years in the hobby. Everyone should have their own waste of time, and using mine to enrich theirs is the least I can do.
-
Totally agree. Which is why it makes me happy to see a lot of my 70s, 80s, and 90s posters sell for 5, sometimes 10 times what I paid for them. I do not intend to sell, but it's nice to know my personal "waste of time" was not a complete financial waste and that it could be worth more than I paid for. There are no guarantees, but at this moment in time, it certainly looks like it.

You won't see "marklawd" bidding because I stopped using that name, in Bruce's auctions at least, years ago :)
-
I wonder if seeing usernames that are recognisable makes people think twice about bidding or encourages higher bids running up the price?
I'll admit to not bidding in the past on items when I see some names. Now I just bid and cross my fingers.

This is just for me, folks. I'm trying to put together a gallery of what has been on my walls over the past 5-6 years.

It's a nice thought, but having seen many times the end when exasperated inheritors suddenly are left with a pile of stuff they don't want (mom/dad wasted all their time on this, no way am I wasting my time on it sorting everything now that they're gone"), I can tell you they will be much happier if you take care of the disposition of your collection yourself.
What will make their life better is not having to deal with someone's enormous collection.
I work at writing notes for things in my collection ("this needs to go to collector X in Japan, this should be sent to Heritage, etc.,) but the last thing I would want to do is burden my wife (or kids) with the problem of having to sort and sell everything. Hope I don't go suddenly and let them face that chore and that I am able to take care of it myself.

I have a spreadsheet that has everything... when I purchased a given poster, from whom, how much I paid for it, where it is physically located, for each of my 13,000+ posters. I have an addendum to my Eatbrie.com website (not listed because it would be obnoxious) that lists every poster worth more than $500 (the lowest price worth insuring). It has the price I paid and the price it recently sold for. This is all my heirs will need to know to not get robbed.
This being said, I strongly believe that collecting posters is a hobby and I would hope collectors don't put all their eggs in the same basket, because their heirs might be slightly disappointed. There are zillion better ways to park your money and make it grow. If movie posters are your kids future, good luck to you and them.

Well, these are over the course of a few years. It's pretty much the same frame with different posters.

Hey Vick. This winter marks my 50th year collecting movie posters and the time has come to lighten the load.
Remember Lynaron? He left us all so suddenly and way too early. If I'm not mistaken, it was a fatal stroke during a move.
When I moved back out here to the Adirondacks last year, the toughest part was moving the friggin' posters. Just too many of them. During that move, I had a few TIA's (mini-strokes) and been visiting doctors ever since. I had vascular surgery last month and another scheduled for December. I'm lucky that I'm feeling better, but I've also seen the writing on the wall.
Last thing I want to do is leave my three kids with the burden of liquidating thousands of posters when I do check out, so the time has come to focus on my health, my children and my art.
I've been selling some recent acquisitions on ebay, but plan on using the forums to find good homes for the rest.
-
Good on you Ted. Sounds like an easy and sensible decision. Get well soon.
I've barely collected any posters in years. They sure are a burden if moving around. I wouldn't be surprised if I get ride of mine in the next year or two, just a bit difficult as shipping to dealer in USA is too hard from OZ
-
Thanks, Steve!
I'm feeling better and stronger each and every day.
-
I'm sure it will be hard passing with a lifetime's worth of collecting, but it sounds like you've made a wise choice.
Keep on keeping on as they say buddy!
Thanks, Steve!
I'm feeling better and stronger each and every day.

Consign bro. You'll spend one hour per poster if u sell yourself, endless trips to postoffice.
I consigned 1825 posters to EMP and saved myself 2000 hours, and they sold for much more than eBay.

Good advice here... but yeah, sharing your list to members here before consigning the all lot would be nice. As Brude said in another thread, that's the spirit !

Just noticed you picked up the JB2 for Barbarella:

So what's your favorite T?

Love this Italian.
But hey T, is that marker bleeding through on her leg?
-
Yes, sadly this poster had some writing on the back that bleed thru to the front. Given the rarity it’s a pretty minor flaw however.
-
There was also a large poster (6 sheet?) in a garden type outdoor setting with your two kids I think
I just found a picture of, I think, the one you were talking about. Am I right?

Whoa! Did you have that one backed or did you buy it that way?

Were all the fold lines re-touched, after it was backed?
Or are those areas just natural tanning along the multiple fold lines?
Very presentable, in either case. thumbsup.gif

That's breathtaking!!! Is it a six-sheet?
the poster I incessantly revisit of yours is Grinsson's Laura. That's a all-time, allll time fav. The colours are just .. /long sigh
-
Its probably a 4 panel Thierry hates "French Grande"
The kids are positioned to hide her modesty?

Whoa! Did you have that one backed or did you buy it that way?
I bought it this way :(. Another poster I couldn't find folded. And it is 4 large French posters put together (92x126in)

It's been a tight race between my entire poster collection and my Spielberg collection. I was trying to figure out which one would win first, one reaching 14,000 pieces, the other a little behind at 1,500. Still a pretty good number for one director.
Well, I can now say that the collection won. Spielberg is left behind with 1,498 posters. Boooo!!!
So here is my 14,000th movie poster. A French 1P for Bava's 1968 Danger Diabolik.

14,000? Zowie! CONGRATULATIONS!!! And a nice addition that 14,000th post is, too.

And congrats on the Notorious cards. Just lovely.

Obviously you have never heard of the word "moderation"......... ;D
But that's ok! Like I've said to Simon, it's a bleedin' sickness. A curse. To want e v e r y t h I n g on a movie series, director, star, whatever, is not normal. But the fun is in the hunt! Keep searching because you never know what will turn up next.
-
And congrats on the Notorious cards. Just lovely.
Yes, very nice pickup for someone who doesn't really collect lobbies. Jealous, although I picked up three cards I am quite happy with as well.
-
Yes, it’s true, I don’t really collect lobbies, but since I only want full sets, it makes it a little more challenging.
So when a pretty good one comes around...

I'm actually in the process of revamping my website. It won't even be called Eatbrie.com anymore, but Moviepostersgallery.com. It won't be operational until Mid July. It will still be JUST my personal collection, still NOTHING for sale, but it will have a search engine, by actors, directors, artists, etc... With more than 14,000 posters, it should be a good collecting tool, or so I hope.
I hope it's done soon, because I'm already more than 100 posters behind. I should just stop collecting until it's done... but I can't.

Yeah, it's taking longer than I thought because the guy is going a little crazy with 14,000+ posters. I don't think he realized it when he took the job. He actually had to send the info from the old site to India because it was too time consuming to revert it to another system. I don't know, I don't know anything about this stuff.
What I know is that I like to add my posters to the site as they come so I don't get overwhelmed, and that I already have 200 posters on hold since I stopped updating the site. Not too happy.
T
-
I bet it’s a handful juggling 14k images and the data that goes with them! I used a freelancer out of India when I cobbled my site together and I think he hated me by the end as I was quite fussy about the gallery and it got revised quite a few times. I’m sure your man will get there in the end and it’ll be worth it. I’m exited to see it!
-
He's asked me for more money a couple times already ;) I just want it done right. One guy in India quit the project and refunded the money saying it was crashing his system.
When my wife created the original site 16 years ago, I owned less than 100 posters. It was time for an update.
We'll see.

I have to add about 300 posters, then I should be relatively caught up and will start a thread. I'm a bit embarrassed to share though as 98% of my collection is junk (to others, I obviously love my junk!) and my photos are really dreadful!
-
You shouldn't be embarrassed. All of our collections are junk to others. I post things that I think are cool but no one cares. And that's okay, because at the end of the day, no one collects for others to clap, you collect for yourself. Who cares if other people don't like it.
T
-
Case in point, this Back to the Future Thai I received yesterday. I don't get excited about posters anymore. I still haven't received my Heritage posters from the last Sig auction, that tells you how excited I get. I only get excited if I've been looking for something for a long time and I finally find it. This BttF is one of 3 posters I still need to call my Spielberg collection complete (yeah, 2 to go!!!). I'll keep adding to it, but I will own everything I ever wanted. I've been looking for this Thai poster for 10 years, if not longer. I finally got it. But it only means something to me. Maybe one or two people will care, but the rest will be - Bah - and that's okay because I like it.
Notice how Michael J. Fox looks Thai. I love it.

Hi T, It's funny that you said "bah" above in reference to people liking or not liking what you like. If you didn't already know, "bah" can mean "crazy" in Thai. Pretty funny in context. Okie

Hi Richie, It's not Thai, but my favorite Asian food in Oklahoma City is the Lido. Here's their link https://www.lidorestaurantokc.com. It's been great for years. Certainly worth the short drive from Norman. We should go there in October? Next night we should go to Cattleman's Cafe in the OKC stockyards. Thanks to T for letting us hijack his thread to talk great food! Okie

Movie Posters Gallery (https://moviepostersgallery.com/) is LIVE.
Well, somewhat.
The new website is far from being ready yet, but if I wait for it to be complete, it could easily be the end of the year.
Again, NOTHING is for sale. Just my personal collection.
The front page will always display some of my most recent purchases. Only 50 posters will be listed, with the new ones replacing the old ones. What you see here is 3 months of purchases, but a lot more will be listed shortly.
What doesn't work:
The search engine - Not working properly yet
There are a bunch of functions I still don't know how to use, like changing the background picture
350 posters got lost in the transfer and I have no idea what they are - The collection is about 14,400 pieces and I only have 14,050 listed.
I need to build a bunch of my favorite collections to make the search easier.
All this will come in time.
T

Good on you T

Looking good T thumbsup.gif

Very cool, T.
I like how much bigger the thumbnails are compared to your old site, it makes browsing through much more enjoyable. The galleries look good too, the tiled approach is a winner I think. It's also nice and responsive and quick to load. I've missed seeing your new acquisitions! Some really great stuff there.

Congrats!

Very nice.
Looking forward to being able to search by Director as that was how I found I used your site the most. That and last posters purchased. Looking forward to seeing it all finished, as I'm sure you are too.
-
way cool!
-
Thanks for the kind words. It is, like I said, a work in progress, but your words of encouragement are much appreciated. I think it's much better than the old one, which was created for 100 posters back in 2001 (or 2002). The amount of pictures and information was apparently a challenge for the guy who created it, but I'm happy with the result. At least most of everything got transferred.
Now if I could only find the missing posters... :'(
I think I'm going to create a bunch of collections like I had in the old website, if only to push forward my main areas of collecting. I already did Spielberg, Bardot and Eastwood. Others will follow. Then there will be the search on top of that. I want something super efficient, and my guy is looking into it.
Stay tune.

Congratulations on a great looking website Thierry. I particularly like the images on the home page which are going to be regularly refreshed.
Mark
-
Thanks Mark. I’m just wondering if I should just drop everything I buy on the front page, modern posters and all, or just the best. If I do the best, then I’ll add stuff on a weekly basis, but not a lot. Otherwise, it’d probably be daily.
T
-
I think you should post everything - you might otherwise deprive other collectors of seeing something that could interest them. Maybe highlight your particular favourites (from the selection of 50) in some way.
Mark
-
I buy a lot of crap, Mark. You know, things that only mean something to me as a completist.
T
-
I like seeing your modern stuff. On the old site, I'd periodically check the 2017 - 2018 page to see stuff that you had picked up, but didn't rate enough to go on the new additions page.
-
I buy a lot of crap, Mark. You know, things that only mean something to me as a completist.
T
Isn't being a completist fun, though? When you have something complete, then you can bask in the glory, like with E.T., right?
Otherwise I may feel a little guilty for telling you about some posters, a few of which you deemed not too crappy and bought.
Congratulations on the new website. It wasn't loading on my phone a minute ago but I'll check it out on my computer sometime.
-
I've learned that nothing is ever complete, because new obscure stuff pops up all the time, or you suddenly go after stuff you were not interested in just to make it a little more complete.
Yeah, the website might be going up and down until my guy figures out how to make it work properly. He's on vacation right now but I have a list of 20 things I want him to change. He's probably going to ask for more money :(
T
-
Looks great!
-
Eatbrie, ain't that the truth! A few years ago I finally acquired the insert to OHMSS and feeling I had finally completed the full run of OO7 inserts, leaned back and relaxed. Until one day 2 months later when I saw on eBay an international insert to FYEO which I didn't know existed. So the hunt began again. Ask Simes about his adventures in trying to complete his Bond lobby sets, and then have some unknown OO7 card come out of left field.
-
So I’ll try to compromise. I won’t post the really inconsequential stuff and will just stick to middle of the road to slightly better stuff. This way it will allow me to update the website quite often without subjecting visitors to another Avengers poster no one cares about. Also, if I buy like 50 newer posters, the better stuff won’t be buried right away.

I just had a chance to dig through your website and all I can say is Wow! :o thumbsup.gif
I noticed you like big paper. Inserts and 22x28's don't interest you?
-
I have a few inserts, like The Postman Always Rings Twice, War of the Worlds, Psycho and about 100 others, but yeah, not into the format much. 1/2 sheet, very few also. Best titles are Laura, The Prince and the Showgirl and a few others, but it's really on a per title basis.
You're right, I like BIG posters, French, Italians are the best imo. I only buy posters of movies I've seen (essential to me) and will always focus on international before US, because the art is SO much better.
T
-
When I started out it was 1-sheets, inserts and lobby sets. I liked 40x60's because of the different art but the card stock was a problem. If 40x60's were printed on light paper and folded I would have had a huge stack of them. I drew the line at 3-sheets since they could usually be displayed with minimum damage. 6-sheets were just expensive wallpaper and hard to display, so I never really got into them.
Foreign posters are intriguing because of the different art used on them. The problem was finding connections to get them. I never had a reliable source until I saw Pix Poster Cellar's display at a NY convention. Ira was, and I assume still is great about working with dealers and provided me with some fantastic pieces at a great price. Occasionally I dealt with JB Books and Magazines for Italian 39x55 posters, but he was a little sketchy, so I only dealt with him occasionally. Pix was the main source.
-
For sure need to be able to filter by year again. Must have!
Looks good, I might need this guy, send me some cost info ;)

It was a different time for sure.
I've never been to a poster convention and never will. Not my thing. A lot of collectors scare me. And I don't display my posters. Just two for months/years at a time. So no size issues. I just collect for fun and I never sell, so I have no reasons to mingle really. Just with you fine folks ;) Which is probably why I created this forum in the first place.

Extremely true. So much stuff will be forever buried if it remains the way it is. I think I'm going to do it by decades, though. By years is too time consuming and the scroll down menu would be too long. Just decades and the search, that should be enough.
I'm also adding a lot of lists under Collections.

I understand you in that some collectors can be, shall we say, different. Not all collectors are like that. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you can find there. A long desired piece might be found there. Plus, shipping and packaging issues are non existent since it's an open marketplace with no games or tricks. What you see is what you get. Plus haggling with a dealer for a better price can sometimes be fruitful. But then I've been to cons where you want to run for the exits, screaming. imbecile.gif

I think all collectors wear some color of the "weird" shirt whether it's a button down, Carhart, pop culture T, none, and/or vented sailing wet-dry. Collecting is at least one of the places our paths converge. Sometimes it may be nearly the only place, though lots of times, in my experience, it's just one of many. That's not an invitation to my house, though let's see how it goes, eh, you bunch of weirdos...

Yeah, it's really not my thing. There are so many posters out there. I honestly have no problems finding stuff I want without going to conventions.
It's the same thing with prints. I do not go to any gallery openings anymore because the people there freak me out. A little too intense, for lack of a better word. A friend of mine once showed my print collection to a couple of guys at a gallery, and they followed me around the rest of the evening, wanted to be my friends on Facebook, wanted my phone #, my emails... Haaaaaaaaa devil 2 So now I send a proxy :)

Very cool 'new' site. thumbup
It's on my list to use my collection to build my own website (django and/or react, for those who might care).
-
T on the background images, if you store the IMDBid on the poster record TMBD (the movieDB) has an API your guy can call to pull images. I added that to mine over the weekend on the poster detail page. Not super happy with the sizing options right now and probably can be fiddled with, but I did a quick and dirty. Anyway, that option is there. Otherwise, you will have to build it from poster images or manually create each backdrop image which would be a major PITA. Might be other options out there, but TMDB seems the easiest to implement.

A few new fillers at Moviepostersgallery.com. Nothing great, but I started posting more of the little things.

A little update on my new website.
I realized that if I only stuck to my sub-collections, 90% of my collection would be forever buried. So I created a "by year" gallery, from 1950 to today, with a tiny :( pre-50s gallery. So now all the posters can be seen. The search is not great yet, but it works, for the most part. Lots of tweaking still needed. Work in progress.

I also received the best wrapped poster ever today. Seriously??? It took me 10 minutes to get to the poster.
Here's the step by step...

The poster is going up for a couple of months until I move. A pretty hard to find French "The Day the Earth Stood Still" by Grinsson. Folded. Absolutely mint.

-
Great poster and what a fabulous frame in which to display it! Nice going, T. Okie
-
Now can you sort by title when I pick a year ;D
-
No, I like it messy. My biggest year is 1984 and it only has 535 posters. That's 11 pages of posters. Totally doable when you have nothing else to do.
T
-
That's some packing job on the DTESS French poster. Congrats! The seller was serious about getting the poster to you in absolutely mint condition. But with all that wrapping it shouldn't it have been The Mummy? ;D
-
Well, all things considered, the rarity of this poster probably warranted the crazy packaging. Plus, no postal insurance would cover the price of the poster in transit. Colissimo, which is the French postal service, doesn't insure for more than 1,500 euros. The auction house probably didn't want to take any extra risks. I actually emailed them to congratulate them.

OMG, so it turns out moving 15,000 posters is not as much fun as I remembered. I've been moving for 3 weeks now, pretty much non-stop, and chose this weekend to move my posters. Three truck loads later, I'm done. Yeah!!! Needless to say, I had to skip most of HA. I had 7 posters on my list on Saturday, and tried to time them perfectly, like be on my phone at a specific time during my kids' soccer game. I was only right 3 times and won those. Missed out on the rest. Oh well...

Er, impressive collection, commendable organization! (I was a mover in summer 1990, precise packing is key, clients quite dislike multiple truckloads.)

Wow, just been checking our your new site, amazing site, congrats. It must have taken a very long time to input all those posters and details. Every corner covered. Wish I had a site like that. Well done.
-
Yeah, thanks. It’s a work in progress for sure. I have 100 or so posters that I haven’t had a chance to post (with moving, new baby, Christmas, you name it...), and 350 that I lost when I transferred the sites. I’ll probably never know what they are, unless I search for something specific and cannot find it. Like I said, work in progress. I’m doing major construction at my new house right now, so I have no place to photograph anything. Oh well, there are more important things than posters.
Thanks for the thumbs up,
T
-
Site looks great. Way nicer than the old one.
-
The old one was never really a site for anyone but myself. My wife created it in 2001 when I had 50 posters to my name. It was just a way for me to look at my posters, since I’ve never been into framing and displaying my gear. Obviously, it grew. At some point, I realized that other collectors were checking it out and that it was time for a revamp. Thus the new one.
T
-
So I think I said this before, but I never did it.
I'll be adding a lot more of my crap on the front page of my website, mostly bad stuff, but sometimes something half decent will find its way there. Just FYI.

Great revamp!

Zowie! I agree! Great revamp. It is so much easier to navigate (I think).

Had this one up for a few short minutes, until the wife came home and said "too big, too red!"
Hahaha!!!
It is now back in its tube.

It does rather make a statement. But I love it.
Like the chest in front of it too...??
-
14,999 wow! I wonder what's going to be the 15,000th?
-
Yep, my little collection is growing bigger. At a much slower pace, though. It took me 14 months to add 1,000 posters (It usually takes less than a year. Slacker!!!) Call it lack of interest, lack of time, kids, new house, life, all of the above probably. For instance, I'm having a really hard time bidding on anything on Sundays. Just too busy running around.
I've now been collecting for 18 years now (yikes!)
And I'm still missing some 200+ posters "lost" while transferring websites. I found a few, but not many. Probably lost forever.
#15,000 is probably this Back to the Future 2 B0. Nothing to scream about, but a Spielberg, so kinda relevant.
Looking at my collection, I now have:
2,533 French posters (mostly large ones)
1,736 Horror posters
1,638 Spielberg related posters (directed and produced, excluding DreamWorks)
1,441 Japanese posters
770 Lobby card complete sets
673 Italian posters
613 Numbered prints (Mondo etc)
551 posters from 1984 movies (my biggest year of collecting)
523 Superhero posters
506 Brigitte Bardot posters (quite proud of this one)
460 Bus shelters
448 1985 posters
438 1982 posters (seems like I like the 80s)
385 Eastwood posters
All are on my website, of course.
T
-
That Italian 'For a Few Dollars More' is utterly splendid. Um, 460 bus shelters?! Do you own 460 buses? Equally impressive.

Such a great collection. Sorry all haven’t been around much. Been super busy with life and working.

Ah, the fun of collecting.
I'm adding a few flat files to store my collection, so I have to move stuff around and re-organize some drawers. The pile you see here is about 1,200 large French posters. I checked a few as I was moving them around... some good stuff I forgot about. Now back in the drawers.

What a grande pile of French posters! Okie

I've just purchased my first plan chest after much deliberation and concern about where to put it. I'm just starting to fill it and I have to say, it's really nice to see some of the posters I've collected for once in the 'paper' rather than just an image on the screen.
You must have a huge place to have all those plan chests. 10 drawers are going to have to do for me, but it's 10 more than I used to have!
-
Yep, that's what I'm going through right now. Removing the posters was easy, putting them back is a royal pain. But like you said, it allows me to see posters I forgot about. I think I'm good for another couple of years now.
T

Bad day?

OMG, these people are driving me nuts. Another person is inquiring if my posters are for sale, even though I specifically state that THEY ARE NOT!!!! The only reason I mention it here is that his name sounds vaguely familiar. Dwight Cleveland. I don't follow the hobby so I don't know who's who, but I remember seeing his name. Before I tell him to piss off, I thought I'd ask the forum.

How's it going T.
Maybe if you added to your excellent collection website "AT ANY PRICE" in brackets after the "These posters are NOT FOR SALE" it may help frighten a few more people off of pestering you about selling your posters, could be worth a try if it's annoying you so much?
Anyone on these forums already know 100% you'd never even consider selling one of your posters, but, maybe the people that keep annoying you don't know you well enough and think you may sell for a certain price etc. hence why you could try adding the "AT ANY PRICE"
Anyway, just a thought. hmmm.gif

I've dealt with Dwight once. Cool fella.

Both gorgeous, but that Barbarella is something else. What an amazing poster bed1
Was it fun opening the packages? Any you’d forgotten about?

Most of them!!! I knew there was some good money in there, but aside from the Jedi 12 sheet, I had forgotten about most of them. The Barbarella was actually a surprise.
I put some of the best ones down for a quick snap. Strong winds prevented me from adding the rest.

Wow, nice haul, T. Some real classics and an instant very good collection for most people! Okie
-
Hey! T,
Congrats on your latest batch of posters mate, not a single dud amongst them, all great!
I agree with Okie, many collector's would be happy owning just this one batch of posters.
All look in tip top condition as well, the 12 sheet Jedi looks practically MINT in your picture notworthy.gif
-
That would be a very small collection hahaha
Yes, I have a thing about condition. I pass on so many posters because of tears, or pin holes, or creases. I like my stuff clean. Which also means that it takes much longer to get what I want. I’ve seen posters I want pass me by a dozen times because of condition. I’ll get them one day :)
T

Oooooo Ahhhhhh! How had I not seen these yet? ZOWIE! I am especially taken with the FORBIDDEN PLANET and BARBARELLA posters. Nifty!!! Wow! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Sweet Barbarella Thierry! thumbsup.gif

In the "Yes it's true" category, I have now been collecting posters for 20 years, pretty much to the month. While it certainly doesn't make me any younger, I still feel, God willing of course, that I have a lot of growth ahead of me. So "Yeah!" to my first 20 years in this tiny hobby of ours.
T

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You have some AMAZING posters. You've amassed so many. And your organization skills with yhem...unparalleled and amazing. Bravo! Here's to the next 20 years of collecting. Cheers

Very very nice! I wonder what takes most of your time, prospecting and bidding, storing posters or photographing and uploading them...
-
Ha, that's a good question. Without a doubt, finding. Once I receive a poster, I get it out of its box/tube, snap a quick picture of it and file it immediately. It's usually in a flat file or in its tube the day of. I hate clutter, so that's the only way to do it for me.

Something that made me smile.
I was at the coffee place where I go to every morning with my dog and I was chitchatting with one of the baristas there. She's 25, going to law school and a big movie person. In fact, she told me that some of her favorite movies were from the French New Wave and she particularly liked the 300 Blows. I said, the 400 Blows? She laughed and I told her that I collect movie posters and happen to have a French poster for the title. I showed it to her and when she read the name of my website, she was like OMG, you're the one? and waved one of her co-workers over. Now, I don't advertise my website much, mostly on here, never on social media, because I don't sell, which is what people are most interested in. She went on to say that she took a cinema history class at USC and that her teacher showed the 100 or so in attendance a bunch of posters from my website by projecting them on a big screen. That made me smile and I thought I'd share.

Cool! Always good when you hear from folk outside our collector bubble. That cinema history class sounds good fun.
Your website is in my browser's favourites and I check it regularly, always a pleasure to see what new bits you've added. It's also a very useful resource for when I'm trying to check the differences between designs or do a bit of research on a poster.
-
Agreed, that's a great story. I also regularly check your site, maybe you should start charging a subscription!?!
-
I'll tell you, this website was never intended to be anything, just for me to check my collection since everything is tucked away. And then it got more and more visitors, not a lot, like 50/day, but more than I ever thought. So to hear that it was used at USC was a treat. And then to hear that you guys visit it doubles the treat :)
T
-
That is very cool indeed!
-
That's awesome :D!
-
Hey T. I hadn't checked your site in a while and did so just now. AMAZING stuff as always. But...those Bond and other "privavte commission" posters...what is the story with those? They are fantastic! Cheers!
-
"Private Commission" is what I label prints that are not from a recognizable source like Mondo. They usually originate from individuals who run their own commissions out of FB. A lot of times, a collector signs on without even having seen the print, let alone knowing who the artist is. Some are great, some are terrible, but you still have to pay. That's the nature of the beast.
Thanks for the kind words. I have been really busy with other things, so collecting has really been an afterthought this year. Hopefully next year will be better.
T
-
Fun fact.

With this bus shelter for Ahsoka, I am now 2023 posters away from the big 20,000.
There are many sub categories on the website, but here are some of my favs:

1,811 Japanese posters - including 562 B1s
1,045 UK Quads and UK OS
923 Numbered Prints - 100 more have been ordered but not yet delivered
916 Complete sets of US Lobby cards
815 Italian posters
641 US bus shelters
584 Brigitte Bardot posters
458 Star Wars posters
427 Clint Eastwood posters
283 Bond posters
278 François Truffaut posters
247 Francis Ford Coppola posters
193 Roman Polanski posters
183 Martin Scorsese posters
182 Alfred Hitchcock posters
166 Alien posters
165 Polish posters
160 Stanley Kubrick posters
139 Jean-Luc Godard posters

Congratulations, those are some amazing stats! I wonder what will be the 20,000th entry? Hopefully it's a good one!

Congratulations, those are some amazing stats! I wonder what will be the 20,000th entry? Hopefully it's a good one!
Thanks. God willing, give it three, maybe four years hahaha.
I've been collecting for 22 years now, it used to be about 1,000 posters a year or so, but I've slowed down quite a bit in recent years. Probably because I am now looking at older, rarer and more expensive posters, because there is way too much linen out there and I won't touch that, or because modern posters are on their way out and have become way too expensive for what they are.
So yeah, three years seems right :)
T

Chapeau pour les 2 affiches du Salaire de la Peur!

Ooooo what a nice DEEP RED. I STILL need to find myself one. And I am jealous of your nonlinen BIRDS. Good for you.
I noticed you also have a MEG 2, which means you've seen the flick already. How was it? I HOPE it plays near me eventually...

Thanks. Which Deep Red? I have 10 of them.

Nice Kill Bill B1s, T! I saw Hideyuki had those up, but didn't bid as I knew they'd go higher than I could afford (partly because he's such a trusted seller...his tubes are good fun to open).

Hideyuki's packaging is among the best and as you said it's fun seeing what chirashi, and sometimes other posters are included.

Thanks gents. Not full, unfortunately. I have a very clear idea (albeit my idea) of what things are worth, and I set my snipes accordingly. I was surprise to win three but I loss one, which is a little bit like not owning them at all because the set is incomplete, and I hate that. Obviously, I will never own a full set (although I never thought I would own them at all hahaha).

I'll keep an eye out for the missing one for you, I'm sure it'll appear at some point.
I was discussing sets with Skyjackers as I recently didn't go for a poster that is part of a two-poster set (as I was sure the other/missing poster wouldn't turn up)...then it turned up a few weeks later and I was kicking myself. Better an incomplete set with hope of finishing it one day, IMO!

I appreciate it, but based on the fact that I have wanted this set for 20 years and only saw it twice or three times, I am not holding my breath. Although someone somewhere got one poster out of 4 and might chose to get rid of it at some point, since his/her chances of completing the set are even slimmer than mine.

I get a lot of messages telling me how nice my collection is, blah blah blah, I saw this poster on your website, blah blah blah, will you sell it to me (I never reply) or can you help me find it (most of the time). I have tried to help a lot of folks, leading them here or there, and never ever hear from them again. Not a thank you for your time, cheers, merci... nothing. Basically people don't get what they want and tell me to fuck off. It really makes one not to want to help people ever again.
Sorry, venting.

It's kinda weird that they ask if you want to sell when you have the message "NOT FOR SALE" right on the front page. That's pretty impressive that you never plan on selling anything, as it seems like most collectors eventually become sellers. I'd say to just suggest places where you'll be promoting places you think are best for the hobby - that way it's a win-win.
-
Right! And I'm also pretty rude with the disclaimer, "not now, not ever...", just to make sure people know I'm a rude SOB.
I don't know if "impressive" is the word. I'm way too lazy to sell stuff, and I don't like to deal with people. Plus I really enjoy collecting and that's already taking too much of my free time. I have 3 kids under 10, and they're obviously my first priority. The way I see it, they can deal with the posters when I'm gone, trash 'em, burn 'em, sell 'em... what do I care.
I get what you're saying, but I was raised in a world where the words "Thank You" still carried some weight. I've seen people do the same thing on this forum. Ask a question and never acknowledge people's answers. I don't want to deal with people like that, and as always, it is the good people I will end up not helping.

For a lot of folks a forum, text message, etc. isn't for much dialogue. It's annoying sometimes when it's kinda rude. Gotta wonder how many people never even become a member, and just scroll through and never say anything. It's their prerogative of course but it's more interesting when people join in the fun.

Ahhh...and thank goodness Neo responded on here. I'm behind in my perusal of your mammoth collection as well! Diving in now. Can't wait to see! CHEERS!

I think the last 10-15 messages I got were about people either asking me if I would sell something to them or wondering where they could find such or such poster. Obviously, I don't answer the first question. I have tried to help on the 2nd one multiple times (even doing some research) and never heard back. So I'm done. I just don't answer anymore. Sadly, this is the world we live in today.
