Title: The Prestige UK Character Advance 1sh
Post by: kovacs01 on December 14, 2011, 01:04:48 AM
I just realized that I have kept everyone waiting for 4 years for a non-stock picture of this thing.  Now that I have my posters that have been in storage at my parents' house, here it is.........

Congrats - that is a premium piece of paper  bed1

Also quite maddening other copies of it (and the other character posters) are so elusive....

Very cool poster, Schan.
Not many of them babies floating around.

Seriously hurting my eyes...is it that painful to look at up close?

But would still love one

Yes, you almost have to move it up and down on the screen to save your eyes

This is a true unicorn.

Schan - Given that the seller may well have given you some information about this poster and how he came by it at the time of your purchase how confident are you that there are other examples which may turn up in the future?

Ves - the closer you are to it, the more painful it is to look at.  Up close, you cant even tell that Christian Bale is on the poster.  You can only see dots.

Mark - Unfortunately, the seller had no info, and at the time I did not know to ask.  I got it maybe a year after the film debuted.  I actually went looking for an international one sheet and the seller had this one as well.  I don't think he knew what he had, and I definitely didn't know what I was buying.  I just figured it looked cool, and it wasn't expensive (around $50 if I remember right).  So, why not?  I had seen the images on impawards, but I truly had no idea that it would turn out to be as rare as it has proven to be.

Schan, how did you learn that this poster was more rare? Do you know if others were done for the other lead actors, too?

When I got it, I had no idea.  I had seen the images online though.  In the years following, no others surfaced.  There are images of character posters for Scarlett and Jackman as well, but I have never seen or heard of one in the flesh.

So, I guess I learned by default when more failed to turn up, even though several were actively searching for them.

Thanks, Schan.

Now to just be able to track down the other personality-style posters that were done.  :)

Any idea why they are next to impossible to come by or find? There had to be a good size print run for each, I would think? It's fascinating, especially for newer flicks, when posters can seem to be elusive to non existent.

It could be that the other characters weren't made, even though the images exist.  As far as why there aren't more, I don't know really, but all the standard theories are in play.  Red carpet poster?  I tend to doubt that because of the "Coming Soon" at the bottom.  Pre-poster that did not make the cut?  Limited, cast-only distribution?  And of course the possibility exists that this was printed by moviegoods or some-such company.  Although it would seem that option would lead to more and not less examples.

I guess if anyone has the answers, it would be someone from Crew Creative Advertising who has been credited with the design.

Aiden, now all you need to do is find the other 2, very illusive (if they even exist) posters in the design shown at the top of the thread.  binoc.gif

That poster rocks! Spent many hours in Round 1 trying to find another. Here's another image of one of the other versions that shows the disappearing effect:
