Title: Edit my postings
Post by: ddilts399 on January 21, 2010, 10:56:03 AM
Can we edit our posting after someone else posts? Would like to scratch some things of the list in the Wanted post instead of appending a new post.

Hi!
I believe we already can.  I edited an earlier posting in the Lenticular Listing thread after there had been a response.
Best wishes,

You should be able to edit any prior post of yours at any time.  If you can't, let me know Dale and I'll fix it for you so that you can.

You can only edit postings for a few hours and then the "Modify" and "Remove" buttons disappear.  (During that time period you can still edit even if someone posts in the thread or quotes your post.)  Normally not a problem but we at least need the ability to correct broken links.  For example if you move a photo in Photobucket to another album, it breaks all existing links.

Are y'all still having this issue with not being able to edit after a certain amount of time passes?   I've looked in our administrative functions and every member has the ability to modify his/her own posts in general, but there is no separate designation as to time span.  If this time limit is a feature of the smf codec and can't be currently changed until some later version, then if anyone needs to modify their post asks the moderators, I'm sure one of the mods will be happy to do so.  (With a note, of course, that you requested the edit.)

Well, even though I apparently can't edit my old posts, someone clearly can!

Suddenly we can modify and remove old posts.  I just accidentally removed one of my old posts.

Now I think it's a good idea that you can't modify old posts.

Hello.....
The answers below from 2011 suggest that we will need to contact a mod to modify or remove a post after certain time. I was wondering if there has been a software upgrade since then which will enable this feature. I think it would be good having the option to at least modify or edit our posts at any given time.

Not that I intend to alter my posts all the time..but it would be nice having the freedom to edit them. . :)

What do you want to delete?  Of course you know the unscrupulous forum owners have already sold your personal pictures to all kind of unsavory websites.  Water under the bridge, as they say....

Far as I recall, it's been changed so you have a small amount of time to edit your post then it stays,
Doesn't bother me,since I don't drink booze anymore.

I got in touch with Holiday. The edit time for anyone to add to or alter their own posts has been extended to 6 hours; prior to this, it was 60 min.

Thanks, H.

This goes back and forth, again and again.  When the edit time is short, people can't correct typos or add a thought.  When it's longer, the poster can change a post after it has been responded to, making the responder look like a blooming idiot.  No good answer.

Nothing is ever set in stone.. especially if that kind of revisionist tact becomes popular.  ;)

If someone posts something stupid you think they will want to edit when they sober up, just quote them.

The time frame to edit/modify one's post has been increased to a 3 hour window (from the time of the initial posting).  :)
