Sweet Lord Jesus :o What a collection of posters!
-
Personal collection for me is mainly Australian Hammer films, Ive got plenty more Hammer stuff, but havent taken pics yet, aprox 120+ titles, some daybills and one sheets for the same title.
I have loved hammer films since I was a kid, and thought id try and get every Aussie hammer poster printed (or rather one example of them)
Getting there
-
Now that is a Hammer collection. Thanks very much for sharing those :D Ari. I'm just starting to watch some of the original Hammer films along with some old Universal films sampling the fascination so many have with these movies.
My favorites above are:
Phantom of the Opera
Lust for a Vampire
Hysteria
Moon Zero Two ("the first moon western" I love this tag line)
Terror of the Tongs
Scream of Fear daybill with Susan Strasberg is greatness.
Twins of Dracula
Revenge of Frankenstien
This Dracula Has Risen daybill is fantastic. I imagine most of those are extremely tough to find but I'd love to locate one of these. Awesome group of posters that I may not see otherwise. Thanks again, Ari

-
the TECHNICOLOR on top is a snipe, I have one without, forget the words underneath off hand.
re scream of fear I love it also, have the lobby card framed on my wall.
-
Love the Frankenstein paper, but sooooooo partial to the Curse Of The Werewolf (I miss Oliver Reed)
-
yeah he was certainly a character.
-
Of course Mr. Richards had to get here first. Who can top that (atleast for Aussie posters) ?!
Now I can't post anything without being seen as Mr. sloppy seconds...
-
post a hammer daybill I dont have and ill kill ya, or cry

Some Fantastic items there, I have chased the Revenge of Frankenstein on several occasions and still don't have it. A jollyfine collection.
I will get some photo's taken of some of my Quads, and post soon.

I have many more not pictured, I know I have this title, hmm. re Song of freedom, id love to have it, just cant afford it, one day maybe/hopefully.
-
What would be cool would be to have the poster donated to the Ari Hammer Collection ;)
-
What the hell is this Wake Wood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_Wood) business?
Hammer back to making movies? It is scheduled to come out in 2010!!?!
I seem to remember reading that Hammer was bought and sold a couple of times over the past 20/25 years in an effort to get it back to making movies. Guess the current owner(s) did just that
-

Stanley Baker and Leo McKern in the same movie? I gotta see this one
-
Sorry for the poor pics.
-
just a couple more.
-
Wow. I tried to get a few Hammer quads last week and was crushed in the bidding. I ended up with 2 of the items, but got smoked on everything else. That is a fantastic run of paper.
-
Paul, those are extraordinary quads. I noticed they are all in frames. Are they hanging or did you put them in the frames for pics?
Nice collection, especially "The Curse of the Werewolf." Wow.
-
Great posters, particularly the Dracula, Prince Of Darkness. Such a wonderful image on that one
-
Wow. They truly capture the era and the films. Absolutely stunning.
Beautiful coilection, Paul. Thank you for sharing them.
My guess is that those are acid-free sleeves encasing each quad. Perhaps Selwyn brand sleeves; not sure.
-
Paul, is the REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN quad a silk screen or letterpress?
I had a ROF a long time back, and may still have a photo somewhere, and the poster was a
regular litho with considerably more subdued colours.
ROF is probably the best of the Hammer Frankenstein films.
And folks, try Wikipedia for info on the history of Hammer Films.
In the big scheme of things SONG OF FREEDOM is a minor Hammer in relation to what the
studio is best known and collected for, if a major Paul Robeson title. But it's an ugly poster
and quite possibly a duotone second printing, given just what a big star Robeson was in Australia (yes, indeed he was).
-
Spot on Mr Carson they are Selwyn sleeve's, I was going to put all my Horror Quads in them, but seem to buy other posters instead, The sleeves are quite costly, but make handling very easy, plus you can see them when you want without unfolding, and folding back up.
The Revence of Frankenstein is a 1961 re-release, the only first release I had seen went well out of my price range.
-
These are the easiest to get to at the moment.
-
Just great Paul. Those are so very nice...
-
This is why there needs to be a quad book published! The one previously done is a good historical look at the quad, but I would like a nice coffee table book with a gazillion full color images dedicated to the format!
-

I don't even collect quads and I would be all over buying that ;)
-
outstanding stuff Paul...... I will have to get myself some Hammer, even if it's only 'on the buses' ;)
-
It's funny You chaps should mention a book, as when I was sending images to the fellow who was writing the horror film book, a collector friend of mine suggested the same thing, saying I should get my finger out and do one myself, as I have plenty of posters to chose from.......mmmm, I may just look into it?
-
My wife illustrated a children's book, and the author self published. If I remember right, they had to sell about 1500 books to break even. Of course they had to pay the illustrator (my wife) and the graphic designer who put it all together. If you were doing all the legwork yourself, that might take it down some. That is all assuming the profit margins are the same for a large coffee table book as they are with a children's book.
Back to the topic though, those quads rock........in fact all of the paper in this thread is very nice. I wish I had some!
-
Yeah, there are some very nice pieces in this thread. All I can do is look at this time since this is a different area of collecting I haven't been able to get into yet. Exciting to see others stuff.

Sleeves, not frames...I gotta get me some of those...

No not my site, I don't have one. though I do know of them as we always seem to be bidding against each other.
These are Not quads, but just a couple that were on the top of a pile.

Hi everyone!
My first post on this forum.
Got a few more posters from Japan.
By the way, I wrote an article about Japanese Hammer posters for the latest edition of CREEPY IMAGES (http://creepy-images.com/) in case anyone is interested about more information how these films were marketed there.

Great collection there Armin!

Thanks guys,
The vertical posters are all tatekans except for the DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE with the larger image of Chris Lee being impaled, and the HORROR OF DRACULA at the end of the post. Those two are press sheets.
Armin
-
Those are some amazing posters!
-
Here is a rare one ....
-
Very nice John.
I had no idea it was a Hammer production...
-
Yes, not many people associate Stolen Face as a Hammer film. I thing the images of the two stars are very effective on the daybill. In this movie Paul Henreid plays a plastic surgeon, as he did in Hollow Triumph (sort of), with Lizabeth Scott as the "bad girl". The film was directed by Terence Fisher who went on to direct some of the classic Hammer Horror films.
Regards
John
-
I have posted these many times before, but since this is a Hammer thread, I figured they should be in it permanently.

Hammer made a lot of non horror films, short films, all sorts of stuff, the hard part of being a hammer collector is people dont list them as hammer, the horror is easy (easier) the others are harder to find, then theres their "shelf" companies, not listed as Hammer, but made by them under different company names, cripes, I could be searching the rest of my life and not get em all, but THATS the fun of collecting, the thrill of the chase.

Those French posters are excellent!
Particularly the Grande for DRACULA is stunning!

I think it's too late for that book on Hammer film posters. I found this on amazon, it's a new book coming out in October dedicated to Hammer film posters. by the sound of it, it looks quite the ticket. Hope the link works I'm not to good at this sort of thing.
-
They asked me to provide images for the book, but couldn't afford to pay "much" ended up a couple of hundred bucks on offer or something, for over 150 images, many posters that took me years to find. End of the day, its not worth it, a frind of mine works for a company that sells images for books, whatever, and he laughed. I would love to work with Hammer but over 15 years of putting together a collection, then spending many hours taking pictures, to get a couple of hundred bucks, forget it.

Standard operational bullshit, using collectors enthusiasm to cut corners.
They can't get what they want for free or minimal cost as Ari quotes, they are still going to happily
pay the fees of a Ron Grant Archive or the like.
I ran an extensive specialist picture library for years, supplying magazines and books both in the UK and
Australia as well as the video industry when they got stuck. No one quibbled over fees.
Ari was quite right to take the tack he did.
-
My first post here, just wanted to say great posters, love them all.
Looking forward to the Hammer poster book from Hammer's archives, It should be
really good if it's from Hammer's own archives.

Hello Dave, The book is being put together by Marcus Hearn who's other books on Hammer have been jollygood. So I'm expecting good things.

Welcome Dave. Your site has been an excellent reference for me and many others.
Thanks very much for your efforts and shared knowledge. Much appreciated!

Awwww, that sucks. Wonder how much they sold for....

Oh, that one I was watching that myself, just to see what it went for as i already have it. It is from the first release, so will be the only one I get from it as the classic one goes for quite a sum. I do have the 1963 release Quad though, which is the same art as the 58 U.K. 1SHT.
-
As usual Paul, a very nice poster. Your collection is one of the best I have seen!
-
That's good of you to say Chris, I do try.

I just took a better picture of my Kiss of the Vampire, which ultimately belongs to this thread.

Thierry - are you planning on putting that up in your custom frame?
-
Nope. It's already in its drawer, very comfy on top of the pile. I don't really rotate my frame much. I've had the same Bardot poster for 5 months now, and that's the only poster I have up right now.
T

Which Bardot is that, Thierry?

That is a show-stopper. Great design, Erik1925. Show us more...

Got this one yesterday (Countess Dracula/1971)

and this one a few weeks ago (Night Creatures/1962).

Well over a year ago (at least) on the MPF, Thierry posted his French paper, both large and small, for The Curse of the Werewolf. While the large one is all kinds of cool, it was the small one that blew me away...it might be one of the most ridiculously beautiful posters I have seen, especially for this genre. Never have I been so envious of someone else's poster.
While I have had no plans to match Thierry's endeavor and wonderful collection of Noel designed French Hammers, I finally scored the poster in question, and for a bargain price as noted by Thierry after I checked in with him:
(Sorry for the horrible picture, it is very overcast here all week).
I showed it to my wife, and while my recent debit from our account annoyed her a bit, she was only singing it's praises when she saw it in person and we are going to have it up on the wall in the living room sooner than later.
While we were just staring at the poster and remarking about where it should go, I turned it over and had a closer look at the stamp it wears.
Check it out, how cool (and ironic) is this?

Thierry, next time you are hanging out with Mr. Borst, please tell him how thrilled I am that he parted with this poster at one point...and how happy and proud I am to own a previous piece of his legendary collection.
-
Just stunning! Methinks I need to get one of those

Will do. Again, congrats on scoring this poster. My wife hates 99.9% of my posters, but she actually does like the old French Hammer stuff. Oh, and Ben, thank you for not using Grande and Petite when referring to French posters. It made me happy.
T
-
Absolutely beautiful score, Wonka. Oliver Reed never looked better.
-
Eatbrie, why not use Grande and Petite? thats the common term, or was. Just curious.
-
Very cool. I wonder if that's the one that was used in "Graven Images"?

Hey that's a very good question and it would seem quite possible.
I wish my poster collection was at such a pedigree to warrant my own stamps :)
-
Just thought I would put these two new one's in the Hammer section, one quite easy to get hold of, but never in good nick. this one is as good as they get.
The other not as popular as Dracula, and Frankenstein, but oh so rare, and the first one I has seen.
-
Great posters Paul!
Armin
-
Thought I would put this on here as I forgot I had it?
-
Love the artwork on the Curse of the Mummy's Tomb!
-
I thought I would post this here rather than start a new thread. Got the "Art of Hammer" book last week. It's has some first rate posters in, some I've never seen before. Well worth picking up, This Hardback one was from Amazon at just under £14.
-
Paul - Does that Art of Hammer book only contain UK posters?
-
No Chris, it has posters from around the world. There are quite a few Quads in it. I'll take a few pics of the inside and post them. I don't think anyone who collects posters will be disappointed.

That would be great! Please share when you can...

Beautiful book, Paul. Thanks for the preview. thumbup
-
Very, very nice Paul. Looks like great quality too...nice to see the international posters are sprinkled in.
Does the book discuss the actual posters at all or only the films themselves?
-
To be Honest there is very little writing, and some of that is not the most accurate. More info in the book would have been welcome. It's a book full of posters for browsing, the perfect coffee table book you would say.
-
I have some new ones to post soon as I find my camera.
-
Come on Ari, where's that camera... pcorn

Great poster Wonka, and you should definitely be happy to have it.
The main problem with the "From the Collection of Ron Borst" stamp, is that he literally stamps every piece that passes through his hands, even if it is inventory purchased for his store. So it is impossible to tell if it is an item that actually came from his collection or just an item he had in inventory at one point and sold.

Anybody have the quad for TTBOD? I love the tagline.

Silly Question Mel... ;)

Awesome quad, Paul. thumbup

Thanks Guys. The drink a pint of blood a day, came from the Milk Marketing Board. They had a T.V. campaign running quite a lot around that time, with a slogan which was "Drink a pint a day" (of Milk ). So Hammer jumped on board...

I dig TTBoD quad and Dracula AD italy 4sh more than the actual films :P 8)

Same here.
I thought the series went downhill after DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS.

a few more, very hard to find Hammer Press Sheets (Australian) for some reason, I have hundreds of Aussie press sheets, but only just seen these for Hammer films, the paranoiac is a little more special of course. I would love more of these if anyone has them, just as a record of what was released in Australia (as far as hammer goes)
And finally, the real special item, a Hammer poster I didn't know existed, nice Aussie one sheeter for Ten Seconds to Hell, great cast, MUST see this film ASAP.

Very nice Ari thumbup What size are the cards...10x8, or 14x11 ?

Great work Ari!

Paul, they are 11" x 14", about the same paper weight as UK FOH

half is hammer.

Ok, I've had a busy day and I sometimes I read too fast but I swear the first time I looked at the right 1/2 it said "Cockless Heroes".
I didn't know Hammer was into such productions?
-
Oh actually BOTH are hammer, Warwick was a Hammer shelf company. So its kinda all hammer.
And COO, nice pickup, thanks Rich.
-
Nice Quad Ari, the odd thing is I only have U.S. paper on those two titles. :-\

haha and funny, I dont have the aussie paper (if it exists)

Hey Holiday,
Do you check from time to time to make sure The Cock is not amongst us under a different screen name. And if so, how can you be sure? I'm only asking because The Cock-sucker originated this thread you just bumped.
T
-
he is here in spirit at least, Cockadoodledoo will never die.
-
Knowing the asshole's personality, I wouldn't be surprised if he was amongst us. Any guesses?

I know. Actually, I was thinking that there's a part of me with regret that he did what he did, because he did contribute a lot of good when he wasn't being a dick and ripping people off. But now, I don't even bother to check. If I followed that path, I'd be wasting my time chasing ghosts. It would be worse than a Mondo drop!

Ok, who would consider themselves HAMMER collectrs? Particularly interested inn UK, Euro and Asian posters, NOT to buy, but to make an book, with me………I don’t envisage getting rich, its for fun and fancy and to please old nancy. But $ wise anything that DOES come split it. I have just over 150 different aussie hammer posters, and Id do a chapter, maybe paul or some other uk collector could do one, Armin,,, Japanese? Hammer has conteacted me to buy my images, but they pay less than Id pay a $3 hooker, really, and wbhile id LOVE a cheque from hammer, what they offered considering I have spent 20+ YEARS finding this stuff, some very rare, it was a kick in the.. hm….. teeth. Maybe Cheesy for French? Im trying to get $ for writers, meantime images would be good, but Ill also organise $ to pay for good professional pics.
WHO Wants in? SCREW the hammer poster book, we can do better and get it right…….
Message me,
Ari
-
Count me in Ari, any help you need. Though I don't know about writing, I'm more artistic than Academic... ;)
-
for me its about art over text, ok, one down ...hmmmmmmm to go
-
Didn't we already talk about this?
-
YEAS but might in the works NOWish
-
So Ari, they offered you less than $3 an image, or are you just a big tipper with your hookers? :P
-
I can't really help out (well maybe I could proof read?) but I hope this comes to fruition as I know Ari has wanted to get this done for quite a while and it would be a great addition to the hobby.
-
I'm starting to like Hammer Horror
-
Ok, I eye balled it too much...
- blondie has an odd belly button...
- the sticks are the same stick just reverse imaged and exposure darkened/lightened (one of those first 2 girls is a mirror image of herself) and red head is 4 inches shorter than brunette
-
The shadow on the bottom half of the bikini of the brunette makes it look like she's got some tiny frank & beans coming out to say hi.
-
Hi everyone!
My first post on this forum.
Got a few more posters from Japan.
By the way, I wrote an article about Japanese Hammer posters for the latest edition of CREEPY IMAGES (http://creepy-images.com/) in case anyone is interested about more information how these films were marketed there.

Christopher Lee as Dracula ---- he was so great in that role. notworthy.gif
Even when the later movies (the story lines) were less than.
-
Yeees. We that we love our Hammer films also know the story of that little studio and we know a little bit about film history in general: The late 60s and the 70s were very bad years for the British film industry for a variety of reasons. But the little Hammer production family always delivered interesting stuff, made with love and care for detail, under sometimes obnoxious conditions. Passionate filmmaking.
-
Forgot all about this Hammer thread.
I got this one late last year.

I'm a big fan of Hammer films, having grown up watching them on VHS in the 1980s. I saw a lot of folks on this thread have a ton of great stuff. Besides all the Guy Gerard Noel paper for the French releases which have already been posted, here are some quads from my collection.
-
Now those are some Hammer quads to be proud of, Benjamin.
Beautious!!

Thank you Jeff, you're too kind!

I agree Jeff, I love Martinetti, and I think his poster for 2 Faces of Dr. Jekyll is the best image for that film.
Here are some more French posters for Hammer films in my collection.

Here's Revenge of Frankenstein 47X63
-
47X63 for Evil of Frankenstein, art by Guy Gerard Noel.
-
This first release SOOOO outshines the later RR that used the same art. The colors are mesmerizing. And Mascii's art kicks Hammer butt..lol
I recall seeing one online a number of years ago for sale. And Im kicking myself that I didnt push harder for it.

-
2 different formats for Brides of Dracula (art by Joseph Koutachi for both), and 2 small formats for Horror of Dracula and The Mummy (both by Guy Gerard Noel).
-
Jeff: It took me a while to find a first release for Curse of Frankenstein, but it was worth the wait. It's a beautiful piece.

Gotta say the scene where this woman falls and is dangling from inside that bell is pretty startling when it first is shown. <OO
