Title: Sideshow Toys
Post by: eatbrie on July 15, 2011, 12:01:33 AM
I'm super duper excited.

I finally got my toy.  A little bit more than twice as much as it sold originally, but I've wanted it for a long time, so I don't give a shit.

Aliens Queen Diorama (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150629393530)

Plus, I already own the loader...

... so these two will look awesome at each end of my desk.

Any other freak collects Sideshow toys... or any other toys, really.

I believe it Ves meant that she does have a collection of toys but no pics.
I collected the first round of Movie Maniacs and some Clive Barker Tortured Souls.  Now they sit in a box stored away.

That is correct, but little miss is asleep in bed and thought I would snap what I have out in the house.

Great collection, Ves!
I would love to see a closeup of the SLEEPY HOLLOW piece...looks like the Headless Horseman knocked Mr, SCISSORHANDS flat on his face.
Nice cabinets, too.

Poor Ed...he's always falling down.  'Tis the headless horseman...I've got all the others in the series but they are tucked away upstairs.  Only so much space to display things.
Will try to take a better pic during the day...very hard at night.

Yep....

These Sideshow things are Pandora's Box for me, I know if I start things could get ugly. Since my wife is at her wit's end with posters (haven't bought in forever, going with the whole happy wife > paper logic), I better not even open this thread any more.

Toys for adults. To display.

Ok, ok...I'm outta here...

Cool statues in this thread.  Ves, those look like classic pieces.  T, great Aliens statue, are you going to post a pic of the other one you mentioned a few months ago?

Here is my humble collection.

From left to right:
Ryu - Street Fighter
Ezio Auditore - Assassin's Creed II
Blanka - Street Fighter
Marcus Fenix - Gears of War
Statue of Happiness - Grand Theft Auto IV
Taarna - Heavy Metal
Sagat - Street Fighter

The Statue of Happiness just arrived today.  A very rare promotional piece.  Some say it is supposed to look like Hillary Clinton, and the coffee mug in her hand represents the "hot coffee mod" from San Andreas.  She basically tried to get more regulations on games because of the explicit mod.  It could just be a wacky interpretation of the Statue of Liberty.

Nice collection, Neo.
Was the Taarna statue licensed or was it a garage kit?
Title: Re: Sideshow Toys
Post by: Neo on March 02, 2012, 12:14:31 PM
Thank you sir.

The Taarna statue is made of resin, and it's not a kit.  According to this Heavy Metal page (http://www.heavymetalmagazinefanpage.com/toysmovie.html), there are some "cheap fake imitations" but this one is very high quality.  The paint is a little different on mine and the one pictured, but other than that they are identical. The picture looks like a prototype picture, as a lot of companies do with a statues, and the prototypes almost always have a few things that look "better" than the ones that are produced.

When I was searching for more info. on the Taarna statue, I saw some collections of statues that are incredible.  I haven't checked out those forums since then, as there are too many epic pieces to start a new collection.  8)

I just saw the new Black Widow (for the Avengers) that Hot Toys is putting out.  I've seen these toys on the internet, thought they were pretty cool but never had much interest in owning one.  The Black Widow one knocked my socks off though.  Aside from Iron Man she's my favorite character in both Iron Man 2 and Avengers.  Well I pre-ordered that off Sideshow Collectibles last night.  I hope this doesn't lead somewhere, I can't afford two expensive hobbies!  I just bought it because I thought it would look sweet next to my Black Widow Avengers bus shelter...  but seeing the Iron Man 2 version is selling on eBay for over $300 and it hardly looks like Scarlett I thought this new one might be a pretty good investment, in comparison this new one blows that one out of the water!

I got a new toy today.  I've been collecting these Sideshow toys for a few years now.  I probably own 20 or so, but this is the biggest...

VERY cool new toy, there, T. clap clap

Sideshow makes incredible sculpts like this one. Its a beauty.

Love the fine detailing, too and color. That just makes it.

How many pieces total in this particular run? Any idea?

Post by: eatbrie on June 14, 2017, 11:18:02 AM
It's out of 1,500, I think.  It hasn't sold out yet, probably because of its price.  I have #100, because I bought it so long ago.  It took them a year to make it.

I still have a bunch that I paid for that I won't get for months...  Groot, Rocket, Wonder Woman, Rey, BB8...  I'm hooked!

You got it.

I bought the Alien King in June 2016.  It arrived yesterday.  It's pretty detailed.  Here's another pic.  Let's see how long my wife lets me have it out in the open before she sends it to the man room  ;D

He's pretty cool.

The problem with these figures is size of course.  But the main issue are the boxes.  I've kept all of them and they take a lot of room.

Title: Re: Sideshow Toys

I could, but I keep all my folded posters flat.

The boxes are a problem, though.  I probably have 30 at this point, and some of them I can't even wrap my arms around.  At some point, I won't be able to save them anymore, especially since I bought 8 more statues that will be sent to me in the next 6 months.

If you get to the point you cant store the boxes anymore, just get rid of the packing, break the boxes down to flat at least.  Long term whoever sells these down the road, having the box will make a big difference in price.

Funny you should mention that, we were talking about it yesterday.  We're moving a little closer to the beach next year and my wife suggested that I keep all the boxes at least until then.  That's like 30 boxes or so.  The Groot box itself is probably 3 feet tall with all its packaging.  After the move, I was thinking of trashing it all (the boxes, that is).  So you're saying all I need is the printed box and I can trash the styrofoam packaging?

Having all is best, but not having the styrofoam shouldnt kill the pricing too much. We are talking years down the road, if you were selling anytime soon you would take a hit not having the original packaging foam. Having the box though is a must  :)

Honestly T, with as much stuff as you must have, you'd probably be well served just renting a small storage unit.  It will cost you money, but will probably end up a net gain to your estate (and whoever inherits it) versus throwing things in the trash.  Even a small 8x8 could store away a bunch, and you could even throw a flat file in there to store away some posters.  Being in so cal, you do not need to worry about climate control.

Grief, is all this stuff 'out' and displayed in communal type areas?  Common to both husband and wife?

They are certainly huge and erm, striking - in their place.

Or are they all in some den or other, out of the way of all others' eyes?

Only one at a time in communal areas.  My wife doesn't want to see them :(  So I have the most recent one out, and the rest in my office/man cave.

So unfair...

Yeah, it's a fun little side collection.  My 5 year old son will receive Darth Vader in a few months.

He knows he's not supposed to play with it, but I wonder how long he'll be able to resist.

As far as cleaning them, they are very high up on bookshelves, so not exposed to dust too much.  Our cleaning lady can't reach that high anyway, so I'll be dusting them off from time to time.
