Not sure what I could afford with it, but it would have to be a Universal Horror of some kind. Hopefully from the Frankenstein series.

I'd put it towards the Theda Bara "Cleopatra" WC in the Heritage auction, and use the rest to buy something else.  This would look astonishing next to the "Salome" WC, so those of you that still haven't thought about what to get me for Christmas (it's never too early), this would be the ideal gift.

My all-time favorite movie is M, so I'd love to own some paper on this.  I'm not sure of the price, though.  The Casablanca that Mel posted, I will own in the next ten years (God willing, of course.)  Not a big fan of the Black Lagoon.  I never got the attraction to the big lips monster.  Maybe some Hitchcock, like Shadow of a Doubt.  A three sheet for Laura.  But I don't think these are worth $10k.

While beyond the price range of this thread... previously posted here: http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,1763.msg23853.html#msg23853

Cine-Images has some nice original M posters.... a bit pricey for my tastes though!

Original German 3-sheet 20,000 Euros
http://www.cine-images.com/moteur/page_detail.php?id=3390

Original French 1-panel for 30,000 Euros

And last but, by no means least... an insane art deco French 4-panel that makes me want to weep it is so beautiful!  Unfortunately, the 50,000 Euro price also makes me want to weep!

You haven't really answered your question yet T... I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

I'm still debating as one of the posters I want the most is less than $10k.  I can't decide if I should pick based on absolute desire (even if less than $10k), or based on maximizing my $10k purchase (best poster right at $10k)...

It is hard for me to pick one I like that is close to $10,000 and not a lot more or less. For less I would say a House On Haunted Hill 3sh.

To Catch a Thief 6-sheet.  Not quite 10K....  This would be the ONE though...

But maybe I could work a deal to throw in a Rear Window 3-sheet?.

Oh yes, I will buy these before I die even if I have to charge them to a credit card on my death bed....

These have been my "if I win the lottery" posters since I started collecting.  Probably would buy all version if I won the lottery though...

I think the question is like that movie with Richard Pryor where he must spend $2,000,000 in 30 days, he can't give anything away and he has to spend it all.

I have to spend my $10,000 and the question is "if you had $10,000 to spend on ONE poster, what would it be"

so the idea is to "blow your wad", with limitations

my problem is that there would be very few if any Raymond Chandler posters that fit the bill.
if a Murder My Sweet 6 sheet exists, it may go for $10,000.. or it may not
I guess if a Blue Dahlia 6 sheet existed, it might be $10k

I wouldn't spend $10k on a poster for my gambling collection (too much of a gamble), but if I did, again it would probably be a 6sheet and it would be Charlie Chan in Monte Carlo

there isn't any Universal Horror item I want that I could buy that low and there def. is no 1940s-50s horror or sf piece I am interested in at 10k

so then it would be Fritz Lang, but the problem here is anything I would really want at the upper prices is probably more than 10k (proven as fact by my underbidding the Spies 1sh) and anything else is probably considerably under $10k

so running all those through.. it's the Blue Dahlia 6 sheet, for $10,000 and thank you very much sir

:-)

yeah that's the one.. I think it was twice during the silent era, once in the 30s, once in the 40s with Dennis Morgan and who knows how many times without the real name of the story

so this thread is "Brewster's $10,000"

$10k is not what it used to be.  A lot of folks on this forum are buying posters in the $10k range.  We may have to up it a little to $20k, maybe?

I personally have nothing on my list.  I don't really function like that.  Like I didn't know I was going to buy the Dial M Italian until the day before when I checked HA's offerings.  I see something I like, if I can afford it, great, if I can't, I move on to something else.  I have nothing I look forward to buy in the $10-20k range.

Dead of Night UK quad is a great choice.

I agree with Thierry that 10K isn't what it used to be when it comes to movie posters, so increasing it to 20K or maybe even 30K would make sense.  For that price range, I would like to get some classic Universal horror, such as Dracula's Daughter US one-sheet.  It's definitely on my list of posters to get.

That is a great one, and very tough. It was one of the last two one-sheets Kirk needed for his Uni Horror collection. The inserts are around on that title, the lobbies might be the most common of any of the 30s Uni Horror (which still makes them tougher than most), and thanks to the New Zealand find, there are also several halves around, but I believe there are only 5 total one-sheets known.

I'm kind of like T, can't think of anything off the top of my head that is a must-have right now, but always willing to go out for the right piece on the right title.

Dead of Night quad, Drac's Daughter one sheet, Jaws 7 sheet!!! Very cool diversity of art and it's interesting they are all horror/thriller movies from different decades. There are also many very hard to find, desirable posters that are much more affordable than $10 to $20 K, though still can't be had or you'll wait a very long time to find one. I immediately think of some of the gorgeous German posters pre-WWII. What do you desire that is much more affordable? Okie
