Title: Sellers to Praise
Post by: Chop-Top on June 30, 2011, 01:33:25 AM
Since we already have a "Sellers to Avoid" thread, I figured it was just to have a "Sellers to Praise" thread. Please list any movie poster dealer that you've had good experiences with overall on repeated occasions. I'll start with ones that I know are really great!

1) cinemacollectorsvegas
2) intergalactic
3) brude2000
4) cinemasterpieces

That really sux louie. I mean really REALLY sux cause as bad as it is to get a damaged piece, getting a damaged piece you have been hunting for is that much worse.

I have bought from that seller a handful of times without a problem. Never a lobby though as they were all posters.

I will also add that when I was even newer I bought from some "bad" sellers before I had read to stay away without a problem. On the flip side, I have also bought from "good" sellers and gotten less than desirable results.

Ebay has been a total crap shoot for me.

I have to say the seller post sale was pretty good, but still, if you have been in the business that long you should know how to pack a lobby card.  Bruce, Rich, and Heritage do a SUPER job.................................although Bruce should use a different tape on the inside, some of those packages are REALLY hard to open  ;)

If talking about sellers in general, away from eBay, here are my sellers to praise (in no particular order and based solely on my experiences as a buyer):

Bruce (eMoviePoster)
Rich (MoviePosterBid)
Dave (CineMasterpieces)
Mike (MEM)
Terry & Sue (Quadbod)

Best,

I would like to add Quadbod to the list of sellers who deserve praise . Terry & Sue are great people to deal with, and to know. Nothing is too much bother for them. I would place them as My personal number 1 seller, and it's not just because they sell mostly Quads. It's their customer relations, it's second to none.

I don't buy much these days, but I'd certainly have to tip my hat to:

Dale (ddilts)
Graeme (Picture Trader/Poster Trader) at Ebay and Movieposterbid.com
abclebanon (Ebay)
kristell
semyns
cglaberson

 clap

...more to come...

Rich Halegua, individually: Best source for original Miramax posters (Pulp Fiction, etc.)

Mid-level dealers - if you can't find the poster at auction or don't want to wait for it and are willing to pay somewhat higher prices (but not rip-off prices):

filmartgallery.com (especially if want a LB poster)

majesticposters.com (best prices for a dealer)

fffmovieposters.com (has outstanding large pics of all posters, from the owner's personal collection, I check this site daily, they're adding 20 posters every day)

kinoart.net  (in Germany, but best general source for European posters, site available in English language (http://kinoart.net/content_home_en.php))

It's evident much of the poster buying experience on Ebay is "luck-of-the-draw". Some people have repeated bad experiences with certain sellers while others have nothing but good experiences from those same sellers. However, it's a rare gem to find a dealer where nobody has had bad experiences with. Sigh...

I agree their packaging could be better. I put them on the list due to their disclosure practices. My biggest pet peeve is non-disclosure! Weak packaging is probably a close second though.

I'm guessing that 'pict_res' chose his/her Ebay name because 'pictures' was already taken.

by the way.. when you praise the great packaging, the thoughful emails or the fast responses you get to your questions when buying from my auctions.. you're really praising my helper, Anna who does a great job. She does the billings and the orders and the packages (although I taught her of course), so if you're a buyer, once in a while do me a favor and tell her how helpful she is.. she has an ego too you know

I did a local pickup at Heritage in Dallas for my last order.  They brought my stuff out and took me to a viewing room to look at my posters before I left.  The girl who helped me was very friendly and helpful.  That place is locked up tighter than Fort Knox though.  Oh, and be careful driving a truck or SUV into the buildings parking garage.  Its more made for Ferraris.

I had a very good experience with ebay seller collector52.

Looking at her items, I see she is not primarily a poster dealer.  However the price was very reasonable on a lesser poster (Bye Bye Birdie insert - Christmas gift for sister)
She was very responsive on e-mails.  She shipped the poster xpresspost from Canada the day I won it, which was more than promised.  Best of all, the poster was rolled and triple tubed.  Probably the best packing I have seen from someone who doesn't do this daily.

positive rating.

I gave Phillip your comment, and he will be answering it soon. The likely answer is that you are non-U.S., and as of right now, the cart can't do those (but the programmers are working on it right now, and that will be the next improvement).

I will post Phil's answer soon, but I have a gigantic mini-major auction to finish, and so does Phil (and trust me, it will be worth the wait)!

Hi, Stew!

Sadly, no.  We've never ventured further north than Newcastle - and that was ages ago.

Needless to say, if you do decide to make the trip - there'll be TWO more pens AND a new surprise!

Seriously, though, the travel costs are getting prohibitive, aren't they?   This weekend's event in Peterborough promises to be a good one.  It's a new organiser (for us) and they seem to have prepared a really impressive line-up of features - including (at last count) over 80 guest signers!

Imagine living in a country like australia. last time I got a bus  from Perth to Sydney took from Monday morning to friday midnight driving 24 hours a day, and just about NOTHING in between. NOW it takes me 6 hours to get to perth, THEN have to get to Sydney.

Yeah but 5 hours is spent trying to convince the border guards why they should let you into Perth to come to Sydney.  ;)

Thanks for putting it all into perspective, Ari!

The place is bigger than most people think - something like 30 times bigger than the UK. Not sure how much of the land is populated by people however, would be quite a small percentage. That said the Drop bears inhabit under 1% of the land, so that is lucky for the human population.

theres a large colony of drop bears on the WA/SA border, the bus driver wouldn't let us out for a piss (smoke) for a hundred mile stretch. I saw a lot of Kangaroo carcasses on that part of the road. quite scary.

Yes it is.
Accidents like this giraffe-plane disaster are rare, but as one who travels the roads an awful lot, the number of deer I see in this condition is criminal.
I always carry containers, blankets and gloves to aid distressed animals.
In most cases, there isn't much time to save them, but I always try.
Right now, we have too many Canada Geese fledglings on the shoulders of the highways in New York.
Despite repeated calls to the DEC, the bureaucrats are reluctant to relocate the broods.
They are as useless as tits on a bull.

yes, he/she was running down the HWY on the side of the road, I slowed down from doing 110 to 60, it felt SLOW after going fast, to drive past it. Just as I was about to go past it ran straight into the front of the car. Bounced, got up and ran into the bush. I slowed down even more and freaked for a while, driving along (My wife and daughter were in the car).
A bit down the road, I saw it running on the other side of the road in the bush and a second later, rushed out and straight into the car again!

Needless to say I stopped and nearly cried. But he ran off again. I assume with a sore arse.

What a day.

I was driving a rental van up in the mountains of Colorado.  I rounded a corner and a herd of elk were dead ahead.  Managed to stop the van in time.  Then the big bull elk went and butted into the side of the van, caving in the sliding door.

Try explaining THAT to the rental company.

Just had a great experience with Ebay seller the_apartment_cinema.
Received this double-sided '02 re-release in perfect condition, thanks to real careful packaging: rolled inside of another poster and then -- double-tubed.
I asked for careful packing and he went the extra step.

He has a couple of other posters up now. I would definitely buy from him again.
Fast, safe and excellent communications.

OK I know Bruce does enough "Praising" on his own, but I must say I was more than impressed with my latest experience.  I recently had instructed the wonderful lady that answers the phones to just automatically charge my winnings the next time I won something...  Well heck if they didn't do that and ship it the same day.

I won that FAFDM Insert on Tuesday night and it showed up today! That is less than four days - 91 hours to be exact!

Now that is pretty awesome in my book... I know one big auction house that could learn a thing or two from emovie (no not you Rich!)...

I was in Paris this weekend and visited one of the last of the walk in poster stores left on the earth :(.  Picked up the small French (22''x33'') affiche from CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF (LA NUIT DU LOUP-GAROU) ;D.  I highly recommend INTEMPOREL (22 rue Saint-Martin, 75004, Paris) and the owner Stanislas Choko.  Nice guy and a nice store with some great posters on the wall (a beautiful LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and some French films I didn't recognize).  While I was there a couple was looking at a pair of Rita Hayworths, a US three sheet from LADY FROM SHANGHAI and another French monster sized Rita.  Check his website:  www.intemprel.com.  If nothing else go to Paris and walk along the Seine, have a crepe and enjoy one of the most beautiful cities in Europe  ;).

What on earth is a drop bear? Consider the "black cats" that roam NSW, SA and Victoria. I once met a retired circus performer who said a panther from the show gave birth to a litter of cubs(?) and he was told to take them down to the river and drown them. He couldn't do it, so he drove them into the bush and left them. This was supposed to have happened in the 1950's in country Victoria.

I still have a slight scar on my arm from a koala hanging from it about 6-7 yearsd ago. Poor thing had survived a bushfire and was a bit scared and wasn't keen to let go. I was helping at a recovery shelter and being a fairly big male got to handle most of the troubled souls. There were some lovely placid little creatures as well.

While they do a fine job in most respects and seem to be getting better, their packaging could be improved, particularly for international shipping. Their biggest problem, though, is their overall over-grading (not a lot, but persistent) and undocumented problems (writing and/or stickers on back, holes, etc.).  I would not avoid them as a seller since the still offer more good than bad, but one should know what to expect...

you know what, I've been eating dinner thinking about your question and I realized I do not have a single "favorite"

I look at my collection (or more specifically it's parts) as a single living organism or as my children and I love all of them equally

of course, having some 3000-4000 gambling pieces makes it sort of difficult to choose something.

BIG THUMBS UP TO Dave aka Hallucination Generation.

As you all know Dave has been selling off his collection.

I inquired about his Metropolis Quad last week.  I made a decent offer plus I had to pay shipping from the U.K. to Washington, DC . I was stoked to say the least. I love the art!
Well get this..... instead of making even a small profit from me, Dave the honest chap he is pointed me to the site to buy it directly from the source.  Here is the best part, (besides his honesty and a great deal to begin with) They ship for free! saving me even more of my hard earned cash. woo hoo!
Basically I made an offer that he could have easy accepted made a bit of profit from me...instead takes the time and effort to hook up a fellow collector!
Big ups and ruspect!! (Ali G style lol) and Cheers man!

oh and here is the link to get one :)

Do you have it already? Shipping is free but in a flimsy tube with no added protection. First time two of my orders arrived ruined - slight nick on the tube, disaster on the posters- and the other one did not arrive. They did ship again for free, but in the same tube and with similar results. Then I gave up. Try asking them to sent in a safe tube.

Yes, there is no way their tubes will survive a transatlantic journey  - when they first came out it took me three attempts to get an undamaged one - it only had to travel ten miles - and they are unlikely to have access to stronger tubes. I would advise you to improve your chances by having it sent to a UK member who can re-tube it for you. I am happy to do that if you pm me.

Dave is a stand up guy - he sold me a great and very unusual Marley poster at cost - even though I was willing to pay him more for his trouble.

Well thanks Mark Mondo and Dave, I am feeling better about their packaging. Here is the response I received:

Hi Jason,

Yeah, the tubes are pretty crap. However I’m guessing these people ordered from us a long while ago as we now send posters double tubed so they’re pretty bomb proof.

Just wanted to say that I haven't opened one of Bruce's packages in a long time, maybe 6 months...  There is no need to check and see if they arrived ok and I trust that they will be in there when I open them. Lee sends me pictures so I don't have to do that myself.   And if they are not in there, I am sure he will make it right...  What a great feeling to have.  Thanks EMP!

Probably need to go ahead and open them though.  :P

Hi, I am new to poster  collecting and am searching for some reliable dealers to buy  from and wondered if anyone had any experience with these guys http://uk.movieposter.com ?
Thanks.

I've bought from them and they're perfectly fine, but bear in mind

- They sell reprints, so be careful if it's originals you're after. All clearly labelled, but just be aware.
- They're a little pricey for some posters
- They're based in the US, so if you're in the UK (a guess based on the URL you posted), shipping can be a little pricey

If you're after new release posters, I usually find ebay is a good place if you choose the sellers wisely. Dale posts on here and is a great seller, this is his store - http://stores.ebay.com/Movie-Posters-4U?_trksid=p2047675.l2563

Just got in a new FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN lobby card from Steve Kast (nosepickingspaz@comcast.net) of Vacaville, Ca.  With out a doubt one of the best packaging jobs ever.  The card was sandwiched in between two pieces of oversized foam core and had EIGHT, EIGHT layers of cardboard!  Plus he charged only 8.50 for postage when it cost just over 23 bucks to send.  The man is a real mensch.  I made up the postage difference and am one happy camper.

Alexandra and Ron over at MotionPictureArt.com (http://www.motionpictureart.com/home.php (http://www.motionpictureart.com/home.php))

I recently ordered 7 banners and a one sheet from MotionPictureArt.com and the transaction was everything you'd want.
Alexandra was extremely friendly and prompt with her responses, responding within 24 hours (I'm in the US, they are in the Netherlands).
The packaging was terrific (not a ding on anything after the long journey) and the shipping was fast (5 business days).
The items themselves look fantastic and were as described, if not better. Alexandra even emailed prior to shipment to inform me of a few extra points of edge wear on one of the banners so that there were no surprises.

Excellent transaction all around. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from them again in the future.

I just wanted to take a few minutes and add my comments on several reliable sellers. In no particular order. All of these sellers had excellent communication, easy payment, good packaging, and are recommended. I would do business with any of these sellers again.

Ari was easy and simple to buy from.  offaleater.com/ (http://offaleater.com/) As I saw items I wanted he put them aside for me, I like this because it gave me time to browse and no worries about the stuff being sold. After payment he responded with a tracking number. A short time later I received my stuff from Aussie to the States. Recommended without a doubt.

John, a.k.a. DarvishJo on the forum. www.musicman.com/mp/mp.html (http://www.musicman.com/mp/mp.html) the website has so much stuff to offer. I sent him a list, he told me how much and where to send the money. The shipping was lightning fast. Communication was frequent from my side as I had questions. He was very quick to respond to me. Recommended for sure.

Dale, a.k.a. ddilts399 on the forum. He has an ebay store with the same seller name ddilts399. I contacted him with a wish list through the forum. He promptly responded with my total and where to send the funds. A few days later I received my stuff. He used an old scarp bin poster to protect the outside and ends of the good stuff. Lightning fast shipping as well. Great source for more recent movies.

Bruce and emovieposter.com (http://emovieposter.com) get a lot of love around here. They have a handy pay and hold program I use frequently. They use brown craft paper to protect the posters in transit. Not good for long term storage (IMHO) but great for shipping. This place can be very addictive, lots of stuff you didn't even know you wanted. Lastly, stay away from my bids! HAHA

I have made comments in the past about certain items being harder to find for me. This is because I am very cautious of who I buy stuff from. This limits my activity on Ebay. That being said I have dealt with an Ebay seller named grimreaper78larry who is a pleasure to buy from. His stuff varies, but always fairly described and photographed. Recommended ebayer, to my knowledge he is not one of us here.

FRAMES

I have purchased frames from a few different places. I have 2 I want to mention.

Spotlight Displays www.spotlightdisplays.com/ (http://www.spotlightdisplays.com/) are easy to deal with. The frames can but custom cut to any dimensions. They have a range of colors avaliable. Plus they have a discount code for APFers. These frames are great for me to display my modern stuff that I change frequently. I use an art core board with these frames (not supplied) because it reduces the "snap" factor. So it puts less pressure on the edges of the posters.

Hollywood Poster Frames www.hollywoodposterframes.com (http://www.hollywoodposterframes.com) is also a good supplier for frames. They have a range of "levels" from ecomony to archival. Which each level has varying features. They custom cut to order any dimensions, and also have a range of colors. These frames are made to be sealed and seldom/never changed.

I have some posters on hold for over a year and I reckon Rich will hold it forever, or until I am ready to have them sent!  thumbsup.gif   I should be able to find something else to purchase in the occasional upcoming MPB auctions so I reckon sometime during 2016 I might say, ok, maybe send them now.

I would like to add Martin, user name here is Canadian1sh. He had a few items I was looking for. He sent me multiple pictures of the posters, carefully detailing any "problem" areas on the posters. Like small edge wear, corner fold, stuff like that. He sent me a detailed email of the transaction. After payment he sent me a tracking number. Not to long after that, a hard plastic tube arrived. Filled with carefully packaged posters. I definitely recommend Martin, it was a pleasure all around.

I'm still a bit new at this, but I've been especially impressed with:

John at cinemagraphics (eBay) - lots of personal communication, high quality LCs, reasonable prices, and a few extra surprise cards included in my orders. Personal touch, and a great guy.

Stefan (slidemen) (eBay) - Great communication, high quality mostly German card sets that I've haven't found elsewhere on eBay. Great prices on mint full sets, and a personal "thank you" for each order.

toddfeiertag (eBay) - Outstanding quality, and the most bulletproof packaging I've seen (double cardboard taped with finesse, in peanuts, in a large box). Wow.

We're just a little behind on saying thanks for the kind words about FFF Movie Posters, but THANKS!  :D

Hi all,

Wanted to say a massive thanks to Wim (Mondo Hazardo) of movie-ink.com (http://movie-ink.com) over in Amsterdam.

Was searching for a very long time for a particularly rare 1-sheet and was referred to Wim through Hicks (Hicks77)

Couldn't be happier with how it all turned out. Prompt communication and bulletproof multi-layered packaging ensured it arrived just as pristine as I'd hoped it would!  ;D

Was very reasonably priced and also arrived with a pretty cool complimentary movie-ink flyer which aside from looking pretty sweet, just added that extra touch of professionalism that I really appreciate when buying posters online.

Anyway, just wanted to send out a big thanks to Wim and to also my fellow collectors on this forum for helping me finally track this elusive poster down!

Check out Wim's online store at www.movie-ink.com/movieinkwebshop/ (http://www.movie-ink.com/movieinkwebshop/)

Cheers!

Hi all,

Wanted to say a massive thanks to Wim (Mondo Hazardo) of movie-ink.com (http://movie-ink.com) over in Amsterdam.

Was searching for a very long time for a particularly rare 1-sheet and was referred to Wim through Hicks (Hicks77)

Glad you were finally able to track that poster down, and good to hear it was a positive experience! I've had his shop booked mark for along time, but never had the occasion to use it. Will have to stop by again soon.

There was some uncertainty in the description about whether a poster on technocomix site was single or double sided. When asked, they replied that evening, telling me that all copies in stock appeared to be SS, but they would check their warehouse. Over the next few days they kept in touch as they looked, and finally found a mint DS one that should have sold for more than the SS version. They didn't hesitate to sell it for the SS price and shipped quickly along with a few others I ordered. These weren't high dollar posters, but they still treated me like a preferred customer. Outstanding personal attention from a friendly seller.

A great experience with jtoh014 here on the forum. A poster he sent from Singapore was held up for months (and finally lost) at the incoming notoriously incompetent and corrupt Chicago ISC. J went above and beyond to replace it, searching for another, then replacing it. Over two months investigating, tracking through Singapore Post and USPS, then finding a replacement and sending it at his own expense, keeping in touch often through the entire issue. Thank you J, you're awesome!

Yep, I agree, jtoh14 is a good guy - as trustworthy as they come.

Hi All,

A little late on this one but a big thanks to Chris9000 for coming through with the goods. Had been searching for years for The Revenant style C variant and finally have one to add to the collection!

Super fast shipping (especially considering it was sent internationally) and packed with tremendous care. Promptly replied to all questions and emails. An smooth transaction all around.

A genuine, friendly enthusiast; always fun chatting to about all things movies & posters.

Wouldn't hesitate to buy from Chris again in future :)

PS: I think he may be downsizing his collection, so keep an eye out. Plenty of unique pieces up for grabs.
