Title: Name Introductions
Post by: stewart boyle on April 15, 2011, 05:08:27 PM
One of the things i found confusing as a new member to any Online forum was, trying to figure out everyones real names..all forums have long term members who could tell another forum members favourite colour..
So if any noobs or that feel comfortable with the idea, please consider letting all of us know how to address you properly.

I had this same problem. Hardcore. Bruce and Dave and Ted and Thierry and Terry etc etc. I still don't know Wonka's real name. Everybody gets to know each other here and it was really confusing for me in the beginning. It's why my name is on my quote.

Ben.  His name is Ben.

But he's a Celtic fan, so Asshole will do too.

If you ever want to see a real picture of Eatbrie (Thierry) just look at his avatar...that's him with a wig, ain't he purdy?

If it was me with a wig, I'd be touching myself in front of a mirror 24/7.

I thought you did that all day anyway.

Even more frequently on days when you are expecting a Spielberg poster in the mail.

BTW, all of you people are pretty active for a Friday.  It's usually the slowest day on the forum, but not today, for sure.

You are still a newbie, even though you've somehow racked up 400+ posts!  Still, let me know when you approach this... seeing that makes me feel like I should be volunteering... or at least doing work!  ;)

Considering how long I've been a member, I think that's pretty impressive!

Problem is those hours only count browsers signed in time NOT actual forum browsing time...if I had actually been reading this forum for 14 days I would be divorced!

Not a bad idea Stew but we all know quite a few people do not feel comfortable (for many reasons) in disclosing their real name(s) on the internet.

That's why we have avatars!

Do we have a list of reasons why Chris??  As I'm sure If someone wanted to find out a persons real name it wouldn't be too hard....

Paul is quite correct.
It only takes 5 minutes of hard research to find who someone is (usually).

Well yes someone's name can be found with research but not everyone wants to do that research.

It should not be mandatory to post your real name; otherwise why even have a user name?

And Paul the reasons are obviously subjective to each person.

I post my real name because I have nothing to hide, doing so helps to create a "stronger bond" with my fellow collectors and I am careful about who obtains any additional personal information...but again, it should be optional

I like to keep my real name private. Its not that I want to keep it private from the honest, good and upstanding people of the world but rather not let those who's freedom I have taken away find my online hangouts.

So people who have nothing to hide use their real names, and all the dodgy, criminal types don't... Right got ya. ;)

That doesn't really stand up Paul (if that is your real name) because you are clearly a dodgy type ;)

Anyone guess what my middle name is?

Speaking of names, i have been advised by my job seeking help guy, to change my 1st name on CVs wen I send them, can't help but love a town where a foreign sounding name can mean no interview.

From now on guys, call me Harry.

Hey Harry, is your middle name Offaleater?  :D

Harry sounds like Ari, good choice. Harry Offaleater Richards. Gotta say though, it is not that easy to say.

Just maybe don't attach your avatar photo to your job application though.   :o

Sounds bizarre to change your name... surely they can't be serious.

Best of luck in the job hunt!

apparently its true, and a friend of mine went for many jobs with his real name HERCULES, when he tried with ERIC he got interviews.
Australia is still very racists, we just hide it better. And FOR SHAME Anti Semitism is very strong (even though most haven't met a jew). But Ari is a Hebrew name, (Richards might be the lie)
I dont know, I might give it a go, if I get a job to a racist then Ill tell them I am half Aboriginal/half Jewish, my mother is a lesbian and my father a leather man, we all worship satan. And see what they say.
