While you're in New York, stop in Rochester and give Thomas Loce some trouble, will you?

PosterFix/Chris Cloutier certainly falls in this category. I should have listened to you guys about that jerk (diplomatically stated).
He's been dicking around with the Bond poster I sent him for linen-backing three months, ignored emails, made several promises that he failed to live up to, he's totally disorganized etc. I even called the &*&!#@ and he promised to mail it out three weeks ago. Received nada.
I seriously am going to have to sue him.
-
I can't believe you actually sent something to him Mel!
-
circusposter (http://myworld.ebay.com/circusposter/) Fuck Off you clown
Sent me someone elses poster and he couldnt care less. The one I bid on only cost half as much but I would put this one received on par with elephant poop.

He usually takes a long time if he accidently damaged it like ripped it, or fell asleep on it while drawing with his marker pen on (well, somewhat near) the folds. Probably now doesn't know what to do with it. He'll probably just end up cutting a peice or two out of it to use as restoration fill on other posters, and lining the bin with the remainder
(Just kidding, I hope for a better outcome though)

It was the $99 linen-backing deal off Ebay. Lessons learned:
- Never let 45 days go by without filing a PayPal complaint on a bad transaction. Their limit is 45 days.
- The limit for leaving Feedback is 60 days. Do not let that deadline pass either.
Now my only option is going to court. That Bond poster was worth about $50, so it's probably not even worth it, although of course I have a free lawyer.
-
I seriously am going to have to sue him.
RE Chris Cloutier
I'm not saying this guy is great, in fact, from what I have read on various forums etc he comes across as a blagger; sometimes good at his job, has the gift of the gab and treats a lot of customers like they are clueless.
I'd like to see you sue him, Mel, but on what grounds exactly?
Just curious.
With regards to the topic in hand - there are plenty of special dealers ...
... I simply say FECK OFF TO ALL OF THEM! gun2
-

Because he's had my poster for three months, failed to linen-back it, failed to return it, missed at least five promised deadlines for sending it back, and apparently has no intent of ever returning it. Breach of contract minimum and maybe I could tack on fraud, deceptive trade practices, etc.

Uh oh, that sounds eerily familiar [**cough**Eugene**cough**]. He doesn't have a thing for stimulants does he? Better start saving for the filing fee.
You don't eff with a man's posters.

Cameo Auctions... FUCK OFF.
You have the absolute WORST packaging I have ever dealt with from a dealer or auction house. You rival random idiots on eBay for your incompetence. And all this for a 40-FUCKING-POUND shipping bill. I mean really.. just toss it in a thin-walled tube with an fucking invoice? To top it off you don't even bother responding to my multiple requests as to how to deal with the situation. I'm glad it was only a $50 poster...
I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM YOU AGAIN. Even if you were giving posters away for free, after dealing with your shit the final price is simply too high. I'll pass.
Wow that felt good. Thanks Cj. 8)

Very cool thread. 8)
Quick question..... Do you have to have actually bought from the scumbag to name them?

Karma for your repeated Bogie steals?
Ok in seriousness I hope the poster survived (even $50 posters need love!)
Or did you forget that staring with utter contentment at your Bogie posters?!
Oops sorry again, I can't help myself...
Sellers should learn their responsibility does not end once they receive payment - is that better?

Ah, Cameo Auctions.
Does anyone have a good thing to say about them?
These guys, unfortunately, are to be left well alone.
If you purchase anything there you are best off picking it up if you can.

No.
These guys, unfortunately, are to be left well alone.

Yes, 'in person' is the only way I would ever purchase anything from them again. And that is only so I could get my item without them laying another finger on it and so I could kick the owner square in the balls. It is such a shame as they somehow attract nice posters from unsuspecting consignors. It is tough sitting on the sideline for their Bond quads, but trust me... it is not worth the money, your time, or your grief.
-
Yes, Cameo need to "move away in short sharp jerks"....
-
Matt, I guess I can count myself lucky having never bought from them.
Paul, I am waiting for a horror story from your own experience!
One of my friends has a lot of gear at Cameo. STILL!
I say still because he asked for it back. They are so ignorant.
They told him they had sold several posters, then when he didn't get the cheque they told him the posters had not sold.
Cameo tend to say things have sold when they haven't, then placing the same pieces in the next auction.
Sure, this goes on in loads of auction houses, but telling the seller the items have sold when they haven't?? What's with that!?
-
Adam, Check out page 5 near the bottom, on the post auction thread, you get most of it.... All bar the second rate packaging, and how long it took to find the "lost" posters I won...
-
My original message to upsizecollectors:
Can you please double check the dimensions of this poster for me? Thanks!
His response:
To avoid any trouble and unnecessary argument with some "demanding buyers", I will say the size of the poster is 27 x40.
My response:
I've bought about $500 worth of posters from you over the last year and you can't double check the dimensions of a poster for me!!?!! Are you serious? This movie is from 1979. In 1979, there were ZERO printers using the now common 27x40 dimensions. Back then all posters were printed at 27x41. If this poster is not 27x41 (+/- a quarter inch or so) it is likely a later mid-80s-or-newer reissue or a unauthorized bootleg copy. Either way it would be worth much less than an original copy. And by the way, in the future I would suggest you refrain from degrading your repeat customers by calling them "demanding buyers". It makes you sound like a "giant asshole".

I'm thinking it's Matt that kicks Ass, Way to go Matt... Why haven't we got more of those smiley things. I want one with Matt flying in a cape...
Anyone had any problems with an ebay seller Star-pix I think his name is.... I'll check and get back.
Edit:- Close it's "star_pix".
-
Not the end of the world, but I think this thread needs more action.
Had a recent interaction with ebay seller ruthrules.
He/she had an item I was interested in, nothing too crazy, but one I felt is overpriced just a tad. I send a message about what I would pay (not that much less), and if my offer was not going to get it done, what their bottom price would be. Was very friendly and cordial.
His response was 'thanks for your offer'. That's it.
My next message: 'Thanks for getting back to me, what does that mean in terms of my offer or question on your price point? Thanks in advance'.
No response.
Just annoyed me at that moment. The piece isn't a big deal, been sitting there for a dog's age but to not even really answer my initial question followed by a blatant ignore is so silly.
Just annoying enough not to send over my $, as frivolous as a piece that it is.
So for the heck of it and in the spirit of this thread:
Hi ruthrules. FUCK OFF!!!!!
-
Ive had a couple of replies to offers like that one and a few ignores. Its not like I am offering half. I offer more than what I think is fair based on what an item has sold for in the condition and like you Im not very far off of their price. That last thing I want to do is insult them.
What I dislike even more is when I get NO reply to simple questions about an item. Like " Do you happen to have a larger photo?" or "What is the actual length of the item?" Its not like im asking the dude his penis size or a pic of it. Yes/No, 27 x 41, I dont know how to use a tape measure all would work.

Scary thing is - I bet some sellers would be more than willing to reply if you were asking for penis photos

Well, surprise, surprise! Out of the blue Chris Cloutier/posterfix writes me and tells me he has finally linen-backed my "Goldfingure" poster after an 8 month delay. We'll see if he actually comes through...

Hope he has done a good job then, Mel.
He's kinda taken the mick out of you.
There really was no need to go to the trouble of blocking out his email address - he has it online for all to see.

Sellers that list magazines and video posters under the 'UK Quads' or 'US One Sheets' category
Sellers that list hundreds of posters as auctions, but with stupidly high start bid prices. If you're going to do that, at least put 'Buy It Now' prices on them so I can filter them out in one easy click.
If the above two types of sellers could kindly stop, that'd avoid me having to ask them to fuck off

I say they can fuck off anyway.. along with the Repro assholes and the fridge magnet assholes and the don't what this is assholes and the "original poster" assholes who list Portals and.. well.. all the other kinds of assholes too

yeah, I now search with the following..
POSTER I WANT -ads -ad -canvas -mini -promo -photo
The photos and print your own stuff really needs to be steered into the correct category.

Well Chris Cloutier finally sent back my Goldfinger combo poster - after NINE months - and I'm not pleased. It came back very "lumpy" and uneven:
-
From the pics, the restoration (filling in fold lines, etc.) looks good. The "lumps" will probably only be seen in certain lighting/at certain viewing angles, but otherwise likely won't be noticed by people who aren't perfectionists. Nine months is (of course) complete BS, but on the bright side, at least it was returned, and in slightly better (in some ways) condition than before you sent it to him.(?)
-
That looks horrible for a nine month job, if your going to be slow at least be good and cheap.
-
I'd have about 30 linen backed posters Mel and not one of them look like that. That's fucking shit house. I'd be asking for some form of refund.
The only problem I have is, posters backed in Queensland where the climate is more humid. If hung by clips the linen wants to shrink at little and the sides curl inwards but if laid flat or hung in a frame, they are fine.
-
So maybe my wavy shit from Chris wasn't from the rain? My little 10x15 was wavy as shit too...
-
(http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv275/Forty_Candles/BOndP9100001.jpg)
Whats with the white stuff outside the poster on the "dead" linen (pardon the vinyl reference)?
-
Whats with the white stuff outside the poster on the "dead" linen (pardon the vinyl reference)?
The borders of the poster have been touched up and some areas of the linen next to the poster also touched up? Looks a bit odd
-
The borders of the poster have been touched up and some areas of the linen next to the poster also touched up? Looks a bit odd
Aren't they supposed to tape that off when touching up?
-
Looks like it was done really quickly... I guess the buckling is where there was no wheat paste applied on the back so the poster doesn't stick to the backing. It is usual to have the odd small bubble but that looks way too much and large. My backer if he spots a buble uses a hyperdermic type syringe to inject more wheat paste into the void to help flatten it.
-
Aren't they supposed to tape that off when touching up?
The marks on the linen might just be light reflections but the poster borders looks dodgy. Backers do use masking tape... Ive had some tape left on one of my posters! I wonder if Mel spots any painting... I hope there is not, and if so hope it was done using water color paints.
-
I don't care about the touch-up. I paid about $60 for it and it was in fairly rough shape, so I figured CC's $99 linen-backing "special" would help. It didn't. It probably was done fairly quickly.
However, this is not the first time I've received a wavy LB poster. I bought a Jaws LB from filmartgallery and it showed up wavy (although not lumpy). I sent it back and exchanged it.
-
Chris Clouiter aka PosterFix is one of the biggest ass-clowns in the hobby
-
There's a negative mention earlier about upsizecollectors from eBay. Without wanting to comment on the specifics on what led to that complaint , I can say I have bought many posters from upsizecollectors and always been extremely pleased with the quality of the posters and his service.

-
Mel, not to be a dick, but I think you could have done a better job with a bed sheet and a glue stick. Oh, and it would have taken you 2 hours, tops.
-
Following Mels public journey of discovery is rather amusing.
Maybe Mel took up the Posterfix 'special' as a community service for those here who may have considered going done that path, ignoring the warning signs?
-
Yikes, that lb job is ghastly. Reeks of early learning-curve period or late meth-binging period work by Hughes, et cie.
I feel your pain, Mel.

JERK!
i hope yours come through nice :)
what you get incidentally?

Wow, did you get a refund or were you screwed having not gone via eBay?
I got 2Fs of Last of the Mohicans (Mann version), Night of the Sharks, King of New York, Prayer for the Dying and The Sheltering Sky. All 5 plus shipping came to less than 60 Euro so I'm not really extended that far. The really bitch will be if he turns out to be dodgy though as he has another 20+ I'm watching and considering getting which will run several hundred. Guess I'll see what comes of these 5 and judge accordingly. But yeah, eBay so being perfectly fine so far.
Actually the seller i really want to tell to Fuck Off is popculturepast who claimed to have sent me a poster I bought by registered mail. It never showed and he promised to look in to it with the tracking number, stringing me along until the eBay feedback and Paypal claim deadlines had expired before cutting off communication altogether. Really shitty thing to do. Still, the guy has a 99.6% feedback rating and over 8,000 feedbacks so I guess I just got unlucky.

Thanks for this post, too, Sean. I have been watching a few things with this seller, too, and now I am holding off. Your situation is a prime reason why others can be so leery of eb*y and certain sellers, even if they have a good feedback rating. How does a seller "forget" to send a poster? I don't get that.
It sounds like he really doesn't care, figuring other will come along and buy, regardless.
And Leslie, here's hoping you have a better result. Keep the board posted. ;)

i didnt spend a fortune with the guy? it was probably 300 euros ish? but i think ended up working out he got 50 euros out of me extra.
he REALLY dosnt care about what he's selling! he didnt forget to include the items. he just didnt have them or had already sold them? but sent the package regardless. when i asked him for the money for the missing items he said i would have to pick replacements, which to be honest he didnt have all that much i wanted. but i did anyway then stiffed me on P&P AGAIN! i wouldnt trust this guy as far as i could thrown him. in fact if i ever met him i would smash his little runty teeth through the back of his head!
the thing is though, if he was ok, i would have had more stuff off him. not super regular but maybe every 6 months as i do with a few other italian sellers and just get a big bunch of locandinas. so in the end he fucked him self over? and ill tell anyone who will listen to stay away! hope your posters come through ok, but im sure they will as you have the power of ebay behind you :)

Sure, you can find a bunch of the stuff he has cheaper elsewhere...but some stuff, you won't come across that often, if ever.
Very legit, is sitting on a gold mine...most of which isn't pictured/documented on his site.

Dominique is first rate, and sometimes you have to pay a premium for that.
Now for the screw off part, would aaavintagemovieposters please fuck right off. Number of pre-1940 US poster auctions on e**y: 409, number minus their overpriced crap: 98. Impossible to just scan the category, you have to search excluding them to see actual auctions. Particularly bad just before a Heritage auction. If you're going to sell retail, get a damn store.

I have a few of his French 1ps actually. I guess I should be happy they are "worth" (retail) as much. Now if we could only get him to put that undocumented stuff up... and make tweeks to his website which is a bit frustrating.
-
Yeah, his webshite is bouncing around all the time. Very difficult to fire a mouse click at a constantly moving target.

And the fact that they (usually) never have anything priced lower than $99.99... regardless of what it it.
They have some VERY cool, unusual and sometimes not often seen pieces, tho. So i do give them that. :)

If you're going to sell retail, get a damn store.
don't you know who that is Peter?
he has one of the most incredible over-all collections around
-
Actually, I don't who it is. It is fine material, no doubt, they just ain't "auctions" and I wish they'd quit stinking up the category.

Pete, I hear you about "not auction" but it isn't like the pre-1940 category is pages and pages like 1980-1990
yes he has 1/2 the category.. no big deal and you can always filter out sellers whose stuff you don't want to see (see advanced text link to the right o fthe search box at top right)
but to be sure, this is his sold listings of the past month.. they've done a crapload of money. probably one o fthe most successful dealers on ebay in posters

Yep...I do like their stuff too...gotta say...

No idea you could break that down on ebay... thanks. Think that $1800 JESSE JAMES THE MISSOURI OUTLAW w/ touch ups is the same that sold on EMP for $425? Speaking of markets - nice profit margin

it could be and it just enforces what I've been saying in other threads that huge percentage of those sales go to dealers who make more money, which begs the question: who is really making the money in those auctions?
-
Got no beef with making money on posters, but how you do it is fair game, imnsho. Out of the 91 results that Rich posted, only one had more than a single bidder (for Deanna Durbin lobbies - who knew?), not counting the freak who was bidding on top of his own bid. To my mind these are clearly Buy It Now sales, and not "auctions." Three out of four items in a category already filtered for auctions only is clearly over the top.
Yeah, yeah, as long as he's making money for e**y I know they don't give a shit, but to me it's symptomatic of the "Me, me, me..." quality that I detest in collectors, hence the FU. But hey, his spamming of the category is working so to hell with everybody else.

This thread has gotten too sensitive.
CJ started it to out sellers/dealers who intentionally try to mislead, steal, lie, manipulate, package terribly, etc...now we complain about pricing? Just don't buy it.
-
Wow...
-
Not really directed at you, Peter...just a general observation.

Maybe RuthRules read this and learned from it. I sent her an offer of about 1/3 what she was asking for a video poster. She emailed me an hour later to let me know she whacked the price in half. It arrived a few days ago, with fast shipping, and decent packaging. cool1

aaaaaaadvantageposters is 2 guys..both located in So CA. If i recall correctly, both are co-owners but one maintains and deals with the ebay listings than the other, (who works in the film business, in the post production area).

is the aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavantageposters the same guys as
aadvantageposters that has that incredible poster (*****) which I will not buy but i think it is incredible anyway?

Not a dealer, but just want to throw a wrench at PayPal, for raising their fees exclusively for non US sellers to US customers. So while i'm getting brutalized by buying stuff in US dollars, at least i was able to recuperate a fraction of it back by also selling in USD. As of April 2 though, Paypal is raising the % points because as they see it, no one else but them are allowed to make any money.
So, now its not profitable for me to buy or sell, anything, anywhere, on the internet. Talk about a cash grab. Aren't there laws against that sort of stuff?
I guess that now that they're a separate company, they can stick to ebay with no love lost.

moviepostersonline
movieposterworld.com
hollywoodnoise
all the same seller, playing pricing game
27.50
29.99
59.99
all same poster, make the cheapest look like a bargain I suppose is the method.
Let me add I am biased, bought something at a friends request yesterday, refunded this morning and now blocked as a bidder. I suppose it is do to questioning the legitimacy of the Jurassic World they have that no one else in the world has.

Steve does not work in movies. He is a real estate man, though he could also fund special projects for movie friends when they need $$$

I wasnt referring to Steve.
I was thinking that one of the aaa guys worked in post production, and who was part of the team that was selling this collection via their store. I was in touch with one of the aaa partners years ago, and he mentioned this to me. (And maybe the guy Im referring to has since bowed out, also).

I won 2 posters on eBay, i couldnt pay as ebay checkout page said remove from cart as seller not sell this to your region even though auction said would. Seller cancelled auctions and said hell see what the problem is with eBay and be patient I'll get them. 5 weeks have passed since with no other comms. Almost time to leave neg feedback even if he finally gets the ball rolling.
here is one of the posters (http://m.ebay.com/itm/272193100079)
I bought it as it could look good in the window of a laundry shop should I ever want to buy a laundry one day
The neg feedback will not do his ratings much good but too bad, I feel he is not interested in selling it even though it was sold to me.
Quietly, I'm sort of glad I didn't pay for it as it'll just be another dumb purchase on the pile!
