Sounds like this should be the start of a thread, Tang...great posters for 'blah' films...
Here's a few posters I've saved from movies I will probably never sit through again.....

AIP posters from the 1950-60s are often fantastic, IMO some of the best there are, but the movies themselves are just as often rather 'meh'!

I always thought this was one of the most beautiful Japanese tatekan posters for a horror film from the 70's. Unfortunately the film itself is absolute crap and was a torture to sit through.

How about EQUINOX, some say the inspiration for Raimi's EVIL DEAD...

Great tatekan, Armin. You're right, the film itself sucked hind teat.
Dig Paul's USHER quad.  That is another beauty.

Not at all. I love the Corman Poe adaptations. I should probably have written 'Corman' instead as it turns out it was not really his AIP pictures I was thinking of.

I was thinking more in line of movies like 'Attack of the Crab Monsters', 'The Wasp Woman', and 'Attack of the Giant Leeches' - all films that are not very good (though they may be fun to watch), but have wonderful posters.

They are no great movies by any means, but at least they are not boring.

I don't know if I'd classify it is terrible but the film is thoroughly forgotten (except for the provocative poster that somehow made it past the censors!)

Schan,

Try watching a UK-made movie called 'Evil Aliens' ...
... Truly the WORST I have ever seen.
My cousin and I went to a shopping complex (mall to you guys) one day during the week to kill some time, and whilst we were there we decided to go to see something on the big screen for the sheer heck of it.
We read the synopsis of the movie (no images); sounded decent, so we went to see it.
Biggest mistake ever! Out of the 20 or so people in the cinema, we were the only guys left inside the place after only 30 mins!

Check it out if you dare!  laugh1

GOOD POSTER-BAD FILM OF THE 1920's

The Sheik (Paramount, 1921).

Beautiful poster. Awful film. Controversy is served.  This is the year of The Kid, and The Ace of Hearts. This is film history. But it is a BAD as in BAD film. Quote: "The film is a farrago of nonsense". There are lots of nonsense that are worth watching. But this one is just depressing.

Valentino plays Sheik, who kidnapS an English woman, there is a rape, which is not a rape, it is a fantasy, and a sheik who is not a Sheik, but a well bred European (I seem to remember French). It was, still is a hit. But it is a BAD film.

Incidentally the Son of the Sheik and The Eagle (the latter in particular) are EXCELLENT FILMS. And Cobra has one of the best ''Woman is a Devil' scenes. Just saying.

The Sheik (Paramount, 1921). Thierry hates "Thierry hates "Thierry hates "French Grande""" (47" X 63")

Just Another Blonde (First National, 1926). Insert (14" X 36").

This is 1926, the year of The General and The Son of the Sheik. This is a pretty stupid-silly-film. Louise Brooks is there, but there is no sense of history. I guess the title says it all.  I like the insert very much. I'll keep that.

GOOD POSTER BAD MOVIE 1930s

The Man Who Came Back (1931)
This is a boring and bad film. No way out of this. Beautiful poster IMO.

Flaming Guns 1932
No words to describe the film. But I do think the poster is fab.

GOOD POSTER-BAD FILM 1940

Confidential Agent (Warner Brothers, 1945)

Quote:This was Bacall's second film after her electrifying debut in TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT with Humphrey Bogart, but CONFIDENTIAL AGENT did not serve her career well. It is a plodding film under Shumlin's unimaginative direction..No the poster. The POSTER gimme, gimme, gimme.

Ghosts on the Loose (Monogram, 1943).

Boy oh Boy. What a crap. Quote: Bela Lugosi and Ava Gardner. How could this go wrong? No idea, but it did. But the poster is quite something- though I only found LC

Ghosts on the Loose (Monogram, 1943). Lobby Card Set of 8 (11" X 14").

That is a great poster Armin. In fact the Ring 2 lenticular is also one of the more effective and represents the subject matter very well... more so than the film.

Great topic! The Astounding She Monster merits a measly 2.7/10 on imdb.com. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050143/)

http://www.youtube.com/v/FVfW5YVVpIw

Invasion of the Star Creatures gets an even worse 2.4 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0128274/).

But the posters are groovy!

Here we go again.... eyeroll

The first time I watched Van Helsing I was disappointed that it wasn't what I wanted it to be. I now watch it for what it is, a Very enjoyable film "based" on the Uni-Monsters, Bond style.  With one of the sexiest women in films today running around in a tight corset...  What's not to like about this film. :D   It's even got Hugh for the Ladies.

I do urge watching it on a big screen, with full surround sound, and it will do what a film is supposed to, Entertain you for 90 mins or more. If in doubt turn up at my door and I'll run it for you...

I must add the film is much better than the posters in this case...

Glad you liked it, Paul.  thumbup

The numbers, tho, don't lie:

Production Cost: $160M
Prints and Advert: $50.9M

Total Cost: $210.9M

Total Worldwide Gross Boxoffice: $300.2M
($120.2M-US; $180M- Foreign)

Gross Profit, after deducting production and P&A costs: $89.3M

It opened at number one, its first weekend in May, 2004 and dropped 60% by the following weekend:

The film bombed. Overall, people were thinking it was going to be something else. But that isn't to say that there were those that did and do still like it.  8)

Antonio Margheriti is a great film maker, so much fun, and some of the miniatures he did are amazing. Kubrick wanted to use him for 2001.. And we now how fussy Kubrick is. So, watch your words you guys :p

I find it difficult, as I can't seperate the film from the movie, if I don't like a movie, I won't like the poster.
Also, some mediocre posters for great films, make the poster more desirable than it perhaps should be (see most of my collection)
I'll try and think though, never know.

Sorry bud... Ladd and Lake are dull to me when compared to noir greats Bogart and Bacall.  :)

But you are probably correct, it probably doesn't fit in this thread -- it's not the "worst" I can think of by a long shot.  Just a big disparity.

Most Elvis fans think King Creole is his best film, and I tend to agree (though Viva Las Vegas is his best `Elvis' film, if you know what I mean)

Maybe not the worst movie ever, but still, a pretty cool concept and design, for the 2005's House of Wax. Created artwork with no pasted photos or bad portrait montages cobbled together. For a modern poster for a sub-mediocre film, it really ain't too shabby, imho.

You've got it backwards, Paul. Read the titles of the threads again.

This, Rosa's and the other are for what people think are good or better posters for crappy or bad films.  :-\

The advance Japanese B1 for Van Helsing is pretty good as well.

This poster by Ballester is supreme. The film lets you down. But not this poster. How he framed the scene and captured all the drama and horror of the war is just oustanding. Everytime i see it it reminds me of the same song, but with Marlene Dietrich singing in German, with that incredible voice.

I won't insult your intelligence posting where this poster is being sold now. I am sure you can find it on the internet in 2 secs.

I tried to make it thru, but it was really pretty awful... however, the Italian 2F for Howling 2, I think, is a very cool poster, with artwork by Kirby. Tho anyone going into the theater, thinking they would see this creature in the flick, would be disappointed.  devil 2
