So I get a call recently from Robert Tanenbaum, the great movie poster artist who drew the poster for the BEST Christmas movie EVER, "A Christmas Story", and he tells me he is preparing a book showing the original paintings of his posters, and asks if I will help him get the word out after it is published.
I tell him I gladly will, and he says he will include in the book some "behind the scenes" stories about the posters. I ask for an example and he tells me that when he was assigned to draw the poster for "A Christmas Story", the studio sent over some black and white images of the family, and told him to use his imagination.
He naturally included the image of Ralphie in the bunny suit, but because it was a black and white image, he of course made the bunny suit white. And that's why, when he saw the movie, and saw it was actually pink, all he could think of was WHY didn't they tell him it was pink either before or after he drew the poster, so he could "get it right"!
Mr. Tanenbaum is 86 years young and sharp as a tack, and he has a website at http://www.tanenbaumart.com/ (and I will let you know when his book is published!).

One year ago, I told all of you about a Kickstarter campaign started by legendary movie poster artist Robert Tanenbaum. He was preparing a limited edition coffee table hardcover book, "The Movie Poster Art of Robert Tanenbaum", and I urged all of you to participate, and LOTS of you did, and that provided the financing for the book!

I have three very good reasons I think most of you should order this:
1) It is a wonderful book! It contains 208 full-color pages including full-color images of the original paintings prior to printing! But just as important, it contains many, many stories from Mr. Tanenbaum himself, telling the "back stories" behind lots and lots of his posters, information you can't find ANYWHERE else! You will surely spend many hours reading this fine work.
2) You will be supporting Mr. Tanenbaum himself directly! All poster fans owe him a giant thank you for all the great work he did over many years, and this is a great work to express it. He has published this book himself, so your money goes directly to him (and you get a great book in exchange you get this book which is more than worth the price you pay).
3) If this project is a complete success, it will encourage other artists to do the same! Not only are these kinds of books great to look at and own, but they also create LOTS of new poster collectors. Many years ago, Richard Allen and Stephen Rebello published the coffee table book "Reel Art" and that launched thousands of new collectors, and books like these will do the same!
