Found this racy 40x60 advertisement for Folies Bergere hidden away on France's Ebay. I saw the show in Las Vegas at the Tropicana a few years ago. They just ended it this year after a 50 year run. (http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/jan/15/tropicana-close-les-folies-bergere/)

It is that. :)

Finally received the airline poster long at the top of my want list. 39" x 25". 1947. I'd say in NM condition if it was unbacked. I am very content right now ;D It is my first Air France, but I also have 4 David Klein TWA's and an Air India.
This image is the sellers shot.

Very nice, Steve. That is a beautiful poster. thumbup
Like to see the others you have.
-
Thanks Ted, here are my others.
My preference is the older constellation (propeller) aircraft rather than the 747 if there are 2 versions.
I'm also curious about the Disneyland poster as only this one I have seen has florescent TWA writing (like on the New York poster) and what looks like incomplete pink band on the rocket above TWA writing. The photo is cropped as the rocket is complete and not cropped at bottom.

Ah, the Germany one is not a David Klein, but by S. Greco

Just received this one today, advertising Gevaert Film, circa 1950, 128cm x 90cm. The colors are strong just as in the pic below.

Nice poster. Not sure if there's a name for that style of art, but it was everywhere in the 50's. From ad posters, to travel posters, to TOM & JERRY cartoons

Nice ones Chris. Are you planning an Egypt room?
Thanks Steve. Right now I have a mutant 1/2 noir and a 1/2 Egypt room - need a new house to separate the two because that mix just isn't working ;)

Definitely some of the best posters we've seen this year, Chris!
In a parallel universe, I'm collecting more of these travel posters :)

My sister makes a big deal of her Norwegian heritage, so I have tried to go for some of the Norway posters in the past. They always end up shooting past my point of pain. I solved by the problem by picking up paper from Song of Norway for a couple of bucks. I gave her a framed insert and spent $50 to frame a $1 poster. She was absolutely thrilled.
-
Thanks Mel. I just needs frames AND a bigger house to enjoy them properly!

I don't really follow modern posters, but this poster, whatever it is: apparently something to do with Cars 2 movie, is a rip off of an old advertising poster from the 50s

Fly me to Vegas, please.
Winter's comin' here in the Northeast...damn, it's getting cold tonight.
Great poster, Steve.

I've been posting these in the movie poster section and realized that these are advertising posters so here is my latest. I was really stoked with this one probably one of the best this month. Doesn't seem all that great until you start matching the characters to the names etc. Most I have spent looking at a poster in a while. A lot of fun...

Well, to celebrate my 1000th post with a huge poster, I show a recent acquisition.
A circus poster for Circus Williams, showing the famous ringmaster/animal trainer Gunther (Gunther) Gebel-Williams (http://www.circopedia.org/index.php/Gunther_Gebel-Williams) and his wife.
Poster is 5.1m x 1.44 (5 sheets of approx 2 Fogli in size) (click image to view a bigger version)

That looks like on of the internal posters Pixar do for their releases. I visited their offices when UP was coming out, and the main hall was decorated with fake vintage travel poster advertisement for the different places mentioned in the movie. They were beautiful! It might be that they sold some of them in the gift shop, but most I think were one-offs. It is just one of many things they do to increase immersion in the movie world. They probably did the same for CARS 2. Where did you get it?
-
For Cars 2, I know four other retro style posters were designed by Eric Tan. Bruce sold one set not long ago for a little bit over $200 (http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/5437366.html). I talked to him, but he didn't know for sure the origin of the poster. So I contacted the artist, Eric Tan, and I just receive the reply from him last weekend, quoting:
"As far as the Cars posters, what you have are the 4 that were used for public marketing. They were pasted up on walls around a few cities a couple of months prior to the film release. I'm not really sure how many were actually printed but I don't think they made them available to the public to purchase or collect."
As for the availability of the posters, according to Eric, the ones measured 19x27 are never made available for public, while there are some commercial giclee ones with limited number, e.g.295, measured 13x19 on paper or 17x24 on canvas and priced $155, $425 each, respectively. This is all I know. Actually, there are even some other retro designs, but I'm not sure they are available anywhere or not, like this one (http://erictanart.blogspot.com/2011/04/and-more-cars.html).

So my dad scored like the biggest collection of beer stuff that south Texas has ever seen. Included were a few thousand beer and other posters... No real movie posters but I snagged a few including some movie stuff:
I'll have to try to get another one of these the poster on top had something sticky on it and screwed up the fridge...

Four that I picked out today from dad's lot... He brought ~100 different posters; all minty (plus doubles/triples) for me to send to Bruce. There are doubles/triples of all these in that lot... I don't know why but the third one looks like a poster every man should own; even thought there is a lack of skin...

I did have a TR7 for a while, they were Quick...........at rusting.. ;D

;D I had to settle for a Ford Fiesta Super Sport, which was actually nicer than it sounds for a first car

I made a trip down to wine country (Amador County) today where they were having their harvest festival. Picked up these two posters advertising this year's and last year's festival.

Ditto!!!

Thanks guys.
Jeff, I get a good deal on linen backing so cost isn't much of an issue. With advertising posters there is little concern about them being backed unlike as is with movie poster collectors. I pulled out of a tube a 1917 Kina Lillet poster and discovered a one foot rip that wasn't there when I ever so carefully put it in there. Don't know how it happened so backing advertising posters is for conservation (I did all I thought I could and still ended up with a huge rip, so dont want that to happen again)

I hear you on that Steve, especially if the poster sustained a tear like you described. You must have been shocked at seeing that rip, after having put it in the tube so carefully.
And for conservation purposes like this, that is the right call on this one.
Again, it is a beauty. thumbup

220cm x 110cm (86" x 43") Spanish poster, 1935
Why I bought this:
I have a few bullfighting posters but this one is special. Sure it needs rework in the top right corner (which I hope to do soon) but otherwise the image area is very clean. To me it is a great shot of bull and matador. I do not agree with bull fighting, however I like the history and art of the posters, which probably comes from having spent 6 months in Spain.
There are a number of famous bull fighters, Manolete is probably the most famous. However Juan Belmonte is widely considered the greatest.
Belmonte revolutionised the bull fighting technique, and is credited with inventing the modern style. Previously it involved jumping out of the way of the bull at the last moment to one of standing your ground during the bulls charge, working the bull around the body, bringing the bull in to the closest distance possible to the matador. Belmonte was born in the slums of Seville. He had slightly deformed legs and could not run and jump normally which contributed to this new technique of keeping the feet firmly planted. He held the record which was not beaten for 43 years for the most corridas (bull fights) in one year (109 in 1919).
In his final years, he was diagnosed with heart disease and then lung cancer. The doctor told him to go easy and not ride horses, which he obeyed until shortly before his death. At the age of 70, his last day, he went out and rode his favorite horse, rode back to his ranch and shot himself in the head.
Belmonte retired in 1935, the year of this poster. The poster lists Belmonte as one of the Matadors that day, and I believe the image is also of Belmonte.
There is a 1995 movie of his life "Belmonte (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112476/)", anybody see it? The photo below I included the CDs to sense the size of the poster.

It's from 1991 I believe Stew, right on your era...

Those kind of things Paul may compliment movie posters in a home theatre. I'm trying to collect a few similar odds and ends too.
What are "Tasters"? Maltesers rip offs?
-
Oh, that is sooo cool, Paul.
Looks bigger than a quad. Is it?
-
Haha cool.
One thing, the popcorn stuff, who the heck would use those drawings of corn?
If I did a favour for a friend who was releasing some home made popcorn treat out of a caravan in the crappiest was of Albany and drew that, I'd be embarrassed to show him. How does this get approved and how does the artist believe he or she can actually like draw good and stuff ?
-
It's a standard size Quad Ted.. All that Yellow makes it look bigger, their
no fools those AD Exec's.
Steve, I must confess I'm not much of a sweet eater, so aren't sure what
those Tasters are, but I was assuming all Chocolate balls...
I do love anything Cinema related, and this kind of poster don't turn up to
often, so grab it while you can. They maybe the only ones he has, or he has
hundreds, which most will go in the bin, as everyone whats "Film" posters...
And Ari, those Corn's are in a animated advert for Buterkised Popcorn, go figure...
-
Paul, I await one of these (http://www.ebay.com/itm/390465087616) in the mail I recently purchased. I don't know if it is real but looks retro and might suit a home theatre (if I ever have one)
-
That's great Steve, did you only get the one? I've asked about posting a few together.
He dose seem to have a lot of them, but they will look great above a poster in the film room...
-
I only bought the one, but you encouraged me to now purchase the remainder of the week (2 others).
-
ditto... ;)

These COULD be real, but they sure have a repro feel.
I just posted a bulk lot of these, absolutely theater-used. If you like your antiques not to look brand-new, the ones I am auctioning (with varying amounts of wear) might be a great deal.
-
I just got a couple of very nicely colored posters (40cm x 30cm)

Some may know I collect the vintage green penguin paperbacks, which they recently started reissuing, I've been emailing them for years to reissue these great crime books, anyways, when I'm in Perth at the train station (exactly where penguins should be sold) a bookstore had these great posters for the reissues. Today I asked for one, and low and behold he gave me two if I bought two books which I happily did.
$20 I would have paid for this one posters, but now I got two new books to re-read and two posters for my library.

Ahhh amazing Ari! So happy you got one after posting about them before. And of course that's the exact poster I would want too...
-
Thanks, also taped to the back is one of the other designs, the plain one looking like the cover of a book. I'll take some time and separate them when I get home.
-
that's a very handsome poster... AND LOVE THE BOOKS... great stuff ari
