Great poster Angelo... I've not seen this one yet. I was going to ask if it was Czech, but it says it in your URL so I guess yes. Have you seen the Crazy polish version? I would post it but I don't own it yet.
-
I wasn't sure so I looked it up on eMovieposter and, yes, I have come across it (most likely in doing research on the title). I like it as it's a unique design and differs considerably from the other styles, and not as surrealistic as most Polish posters

I actually interpret the meaning of this image and how it relates to the movie. Some of the other Polish posters, not so much.

Really like that MOSQUITO SQUADRON, Mike...along with all of the others of course.
Great posters all...
even Mel's upskirt... jawdrop

Seconded, There's some very fine piece's there, too many to single any couple out. happy1

Is that an original Casablanca? If so, I'm mildly impressed....
-
Alright Paul, you've let us have our fun... you might as well go ahead and unleash your quad-ageddon upon us! ;D
I was waiting for this too!
-
That Casablanca looks way too clean and glossy to be original.
Plus Paul is too busy buying up all the awesome horror quads to have the means to acqurie an original Casablanca ;)
-
Unfortunately it's the 2007 BFI re-release poster, So I don't think you'll be impressed in the slightest Mel. I was impressed I had a newish poster. Though I do have the original 1943 release U.K. F.O.H stills, Very rare, and even more so as I have a full set of 8.

Paul, your collection never ceases to amaze me you could open a gallery, and Harry that Patton quad is wonderful

All kidding aside, it's great! I love the BFI quads - had never seen that one before.
-
There are some very nice BFI posters out there. Casablanca is one of them, and as will never be able to afford a first release, that will do nicely.
-
Though I do have the original 1943 release U.K. F.O.H stills, Very rare, and even more so as I have a full set of 8.
I would love to see those sometime! And nice Park Circus too... I at first thought it might be one of the R70s horizontal Italian 1-foglios I've seen floating around.
By the way, you may not think the quad war titles you have are all that impressive. However, you have to remember for us 1-sheet collectors, quads generally have MUCH more vibrant and dramatic artwork that totally fills the paper. Too many post-war 1-sheets have lackluster designs with half the posters taken up by large borders and a credit block over an all white or all black background -- the posters can almost seem segregated in a way. Those quads you have are just stunning and the credits seem to just disappear into the designs.
We just like to give you shit because we are standing here in awe. Please keep posting by all means!

I really want one of these. The lobby card looking similar to this would be a dream come true if I could have an original. I just love this poster.

Hey Paul - is the BFI Casablanca a full sized quad 30x40?
-
Yes Chris all the BFI posters are full size quads. The British film Institute have prints of movies that can be hired out, and these are the posters for them.
-
Hi, Folks!

I Always like to talk up the U.K. Quad as it's always been regarded as the poor second cousin to the U.S. 1sht in the poster world. I must admit in the last few years it does seem to be holding it's own. The more people see them, the more popular it becomes.
Where are all these War posters.

Mostly for Harry, sorry for the poor pics My cheap camera is playing up.
U.K. F.O.H. stills form the 1943 release of Casablanca. These should not exist as, they were printed during the 2nd world war, and on non-sensitzed paper, as can be seen stated top left.

Wow, those stills are the shit, Paul.
Great choice of scenes...great B&W tones...awesome..
Is that a complete set?
-
No fading or discoloration in any of those stills...marvellous.
Stew
-
Yes Ted full set, There's 8 stills in 99% of U.K. Front of House sets. The pics are not the best, My camera is going in the bin if it doesn't pull it's socks up >:(
-
No fading or discoloration in any of those stills...marvellous.
Stew
And just to link up to another thread these were kept by a Projectionist in his cupboard at home with quite a few other stills from the time period, in a cardboard box with some Famous monsters mags thrown in, and uncovered. I do think we can go over the top with storage. How were they looked after in the 60's, 70's?? no one cared!

More than welcome Harry, I'll dig out my Maltase Falcon set when a apt thread comes up.
Does this count as war, it's the 67 re-release.

Paul - I love those Casablanca stills. Do you mind me asking you how/where you got them? Do you think there is a way I could find at least one of those stills for a reasonable price or are they thousands of dollars like the posters?
~ Juli
-
OK Paul I am with everyone else - those Casablanca stills are remarkable.
Can you explain (if you know) what the "sensitized paper" means? Are you saying they should have disintegrated by now?
-
I got the stills as said earlier from a guy who worked at a cinema from the mid 30's through to the 50's. He was retired when I met him, I had gone to buy some 8mm films from him. When we were talking I was telling him Horror films were my main collecting area, he said there was some Famous Monsters of Filmland mags he had in a box. At the time I was 5 missing from a full set so Said I would take a look. Lo and behold, there was about 14/15 of them, and 4 I didn't have. Wow I thought 4 missing numbers in one go. Now at this point he was lifting them out of this box and handing them to me, he says do you collect F.O.H. stills, to which I replied "yes of course", and he lifts out about 200+ F.O.H. stills. The first few were old not very interesting films, and only two of one title, four of another, Halfway down I come across The Maltese Falcon, Oh hell I thought, and started counting.....There was eight, total disbelief, and as I picked up that last still, it unveiled the Casablanca one, I started counting them again, and eight of them!!! what are the chance's. So I bought everything he had.
The Sensitised paper thing is it's not Photographic paper, my Guess was, as this was during WW2 with all the rationing, the stills were put straight on to poster paper, as they are very thin. I maybe wrong it's only my guess, maybe Bruce has some knowledge of this, or if anyone in the U.K. who was around at the time.
Weather any turn up Juli, I did see a set which was a surprise to me as I thought mine maybe the only one's to survive. It was a few years ago in a local, and I must say poorly advertised Auction. I thought I may steal these, being a general Auction but they went over £2000, so a bit rich for me. That's the thing I love about collecting, you just never know what's around the corner.

Hi, Paul!
I believe you're correct - I think you meant to say 'non-sensitized paper' as you did in your earlier posting - non-photographic paper, so printed with ink in a similar way to photographs in (old) newspapers rather than photo-litho or similar process.
Nice find!
Best wishes,

Thanks for that Terry, "Yes type in haste". It must be the only way it was done, though the Paper is marginally thicker than some of the poster paper of the time. That said they are quite delicate.

Think i`ll sneak this one in here..

Good find HC. You got skillzzz, man. You're like the "Howard Carter" of poster collectors, always digging up rarities....

Howard Carter? You sir are a nerd of highest order for making a reference like that! ;D
That B0 should probably go on your Unicorns page!

I never knew this even existed.

Nor did I. I was actually surprised it went for so "little" given how rare it must be. And yes, it would be crazy to see the two B0s displayed side by side...

I love the background and i love the font...but the Brando image is just too clean and rugged compared to to the actuall portrayal by Brando in the movie.....

I knew, but didnt know about that auction. In the end, that is probably a good thing, because I dont think my wallet or my wife would be too happy with me if I did.

Great artwork on that one Paul...strange why such an Army would be raised just because there is a chick wearing a negligee.
;D Stew

You would be amazed how cheap this was. I know it's not a premium title, but it's an original 1951 poster that's nice to look at.
You couldn't get a modern print from South bank market this cheap!

It actually is considering it is nearly 100 years old. Paper is still pretty supple. It does have a few minor issues but most importantly there is no paper loss.

Hey Z, Is this poster still in your collection? I like it a lot, with that intense background color, too.
