With 3 kids under 6, I feel I’ll never have a chance to see another old movie again.  I have all the new movies st home and keep falling asleep half way thru.  Fell asleep to Mary Poppins Return, Bumblebee, Aquaman (after 10 mn), even The Favourite (which I heard was really good).  The only one I’ve watched from beginning to end was the excellent Green Book.  So old movies will be in 10 years.

The Unseen was conceived as a sort of unofficial follow-up to the much better The Uninvited (1944), a great ghost story starring the same actress (Gail Russell) and directed by the same guy (Lewis Allen).  It's nowhere near as successful, but the posters for the movie are nice.

I own a French poster for The Uninvited that used to hang above the mantel in my old summer house on Long Island.

why the assigned script duties to Chandler I'll never know. But then again, why they assigned him to And Now Tomorrow is an even greater mystery

Also had this Frenchie come in.

I prefer this style with Kong holding what is identifiable as a crushed fighter, rather than the other where it looks more like just a crushed chunk of metal in his hand.

That's a good way to start 2019, Jeff: Kong catches a jet!  Man, can you imagine how hard it would be to hold on to the top of a building while grabbing a jet and not being pulled off said building!?  Kong! Kong! Kong!

I have not posted anything for a while (a few months) and though I have had quite a few new posters (mainly UK rerelease Quads and a few Polish posters - which are the mainstay of my collecting these days) i have recently acquired some Imax promotional posters, both Quads and the larger poster frame ones. so in this post first ~I will share these.

May not be everyones's cup of tea but thought I would share them out of interest.

They are really nice and apart from the First Man one they are all on really thick heavy paper. So much more durable than the regular quads.

I really like those IMAX posters. Seems that the First Man posters relates to the film, but do the others relate to any other films? At first I thought the boat was from The Perfect Storm, but it's a different image. Either way, nice set to have. Looking forward to seeing the quads.

The quads are the first four pictures (the last three are the full size IMAX posters. Not sure if the others refer to the films or not as there is no reference, but I would say that the aeronaut one looks like taken from Dunkirk to me.

But who knows, it would be interesting to find out if they were taken from specific films.

Ah yes, sorry I thought you were referring to the imax quads. I was in the process of doing it which takes time as I have to put them on my share account first elsewhere and then link the image address as you know. I almost had finished with quite a few posters which seemed to take ages and pressed preview so I could check and they all dissappeared, I don't know what happened it just went back to the thread and my post was gone. Took me ages as well.  So I need to do it again...

Nice selection of Quads. I have the Beetlejuice and was slightly disappointed with the quality of the poster. There are obviously some really well designed rerelease posters but they put 0 effort in on this one.

Good info regrading the Carpenter quads. I was looking for a full set but have not seen Prince of Darkness or They Live! available. I wonder if these posters will be exactly the same as the Quads issued to Cinemas in terms of image and paper stock? From the images on the site they seem to have a different credit block to the Cinema Quads and I don't know how the paper compares. Nice set to have though and should make the quadruple bill even more collectable.

Skyjackers - I saw the artist post the following on Facebook: “They are a new method of printing that we found, litho can’t go that big. Closest comparison would be giclee... but they have more of an old school cinema poster sheen.”

He said the paper is thicker than standard quad poster paper.

Thanks for the info Tob. I'd be happy if they were exactly the same as the ones issued to Cinemas, but maybe these will be a nicer quality that print collectors might prefer.

Apparently they are on much thicker paper. They didn't say the name of the printing method, Matt said they have found a new form of printing as litho's wouldn't be big enough. It's supposed to be very beautiuful crisp colours. Likened to Giclée printing but with a really nice sheen similar to original quads. I think I have seen a number of quads that are probably produced on this method - particularly the ones by the smaller independent distributors here in the UK (if it this or very similar I am sure they will be really great). From what I can see the only difference seems to be they miss the coming soon to UK Cinemas block of text that are on the official UK Quads.

I think you are right. Especially the collectors that collect screenprints, art prints. and Matt's fans I think will prefer these on the thicker paper, The paper of the original quads is quite think and easily damaged.

I have not seen They Live or The Print quads either. We showed the films at the cinema I work on and we only got ESCAPE and the FOG quads. No one has seen the others that I know - I'm beginning to think those two were never printed.

If you like the Carpenter movie posters you should know that artist Matt Ferguson in collaboration with Studio Canal  are doing a timed release for these posters from today for 7 days. The edition number will be however many sell in the 7 days as they realise there'a a big demand for these. I'm gonna buy the set for £150 ($180) or you can buy individually for £50 ($60) as they will be signed and numbered edition. Pity they are not doing them as screen prints though.

All four will posters will be released via the https://vice-press.com/ (https://vice-press.com/) website as well as at https://greymatterart.com/  (https://greymatterart.com/) Grey Matter Art, starting at 5pm GMT  / 12pm EST / 9am PST

Thanks for the info on the MF posters  thumbsup.gif

I finally got the Vertigo rerelease quad - been after it for a while since its release but rarely comes up on ebay or anywhere else for less than 150. I managed to snag one last week, Cons - seller put it in a shit paper thin tube and it got damaged. Not bad but enough to piss me off.

That is always infuriating - this has happened to me on two recent occasions including one which came from a prominent member of this forum who should have known better.

Sorry to see this, too, poster art.

And this kind of edge "crinkling" is hard to get rid of totally, just using the Weight & Wait Method. A warm iron, applied gently (and set to a low setting), should be able to help here, though glossy paper has a good "memory," too:

Sucks to hear about damage in shipping.

As an ironic contrast to your experience, I once had an imbecile of a seller ship me a poster using another poster as the tube.  I mean he literally wrapped my purchase inside another low value poster, put tape over the ends, wrote my address and put stamps directly on the outer poster.

The craziest part was it arrived in perfect shape. Haha.

Makes you wonder WTF is going on when shipping services manage to crush one of those "gorilla proof" tubes.

It happens to me a lot, since I buy a lot, and I won't put up with it.  If the seller cannot ship a poster, I don't even want to argue with him, not worth my time.  I just open a Paypal dispute, ship the poster back and get my money back.  Super easy and efficient.  End of story.

Maybe I should do the same with the person who shipped me the Vertigo - he says "sorry the courier damaged the tube and I apologise that I put it in a tube that was not up for the job, I will contact the courier and put a claim in to get you refunded"!!!

Yes you should.  Don't leave it up to the seller to do anything for you.  He fucked up, he should get reimbursed after you.  Just do it yourself and never buy from that person again.

I agree with T. It shouldn't be up to you to wait and see IF he gets reimbursed by postal office, which I doubt would cover the entire amount anyway.  If you paid by credit card or PayPal  go for a full refund.  Or send it back and ask him to ship
you another copy. Or if you are content living with some damage tell him to send you 75% refund or something.  Sometimes that's better than returning a poster for full refund as the buyer gets dinged on the return shipping costs which can be close to or more than the actual poster..
Just don't play the waiting game though as you have a time limit ton some of these options.

I don't want to lose the poster as it very very rarely comes up on the bay this one, even with some damage it is better than not having one, but it's worth only half of what I paid for it, so I will take the advise and ask him for at least a 50% refund up front rather than waiter to see if the bloody courier refunds it! thanks

It's great because actual photos of the actors were used vs. the imagery having been relegated to artists to draw & re-create... lol  ;D  (Aside from the very talented art dept that existed at Richardson Studio, that is  thumbup).

I hear ya.  Worse case scenario, you have an opportunity down the road to pick up another nicer copy, send this one to Bruce or sell it yourself and recover the other 50%.  Hope the seller agrees, probably in their best interest to do so.

I once bought a WW1 French poster from an antique shop in New England somewhere, a nice rolled copy... but it arrived - yep, folded. She was a nice older lady and completely oblivious, thought she was saving me money by folding it before shipping. I remember her email... "Was that wrong?"  My fault I guess. She did give a 50% refund, and I was left with a wicked awesome WW1 poster, which, even if folded, are impossible to come by.  Although come to think of it I did already have another copy.

let us know how it turns out!

I have been on the r receiving end of poor packing many times as well and have gotten to the point that I send a canned message when I buy, quoted below. It, when the seller follows it, has worked out very well and I would say that my overall annual damaged poster percentage has dropped dramatically when using it. Anyone interested, feel free to copy it word for word if you like.

"When shipping can you please try to follow the instructions at the site linked below as closely as you can and make sure it is fully insured. I have had some really bad luck with damage from poor packing and USPS handling lately. http://posterfrom.com/resources/how-to-ship-a-poster/ Thank you, Mike"

I think your stuff is a little long, dead dude.  No one is going to read that.  I have a packaging request form too.  I send it to everyone I buy from, which is also why I do not attempt to deal with the seller if the packaging is wrong.  Been there done that.

The frustrating for me is I have bought stuff of this seller many times before and he normally sends it an good tube - I can only assume he didn't have any of the hard quad tubes left and he send it in this shit one instead - but it doesn't excuse him. This was an expensive quad and it's one of the ones produced by Park Circus and they are always on really thin paper, so he really should have wrapped it properly and sent it in a thick strong tube. Maybe he just didn't think.

What is also not acceptable though that he makes me wait to see if he can get refunded by the courier, I don't think that is on to be honest.

Update: Courier still not refunded as time was getting on so I asked for the time being to refund my 50% and I keep the poster to avoid making a claim and having to send the poster back - so seller has refunded 50% plus postage. and says he will refund half of the claim when and if it comes in. so ok with that . No guarantees of course. But at least I have a partial refund and can keep the poster .
