Title: “Just like Steve McQueen, I made that motor scream!”; the Bullit Mustang saga
Post by: guest4955 on May 08, 2018, 03:45:35 AM
Man, I’ve been meaning to post this for months, but an overheard Judas Priest line finally put the “Bullit” in the chamber. It’s extremely fascinating to me for several reasons: It’s a movie collectors dream, I’m a long-time Mustang owner, etc:

It’s now worth millions but - like movie posters then - in 1974 it was not appreciated and sold for little with no fanfare. Here’s the famous scene:

I just Love these stories.  Love 'em.

Finding stuff long thought long gone by someone who isn't (or wasn't) that bothered.

And for something so utterly iconic, well it just adds.

Thanks for sharing fella.

Thx Simes, so it was purchased in 1974 for $6K ($32K inflation-adjusted), now worth millions; the article ridiculously understates its value at maybe a million. The owner CLAIMS he never will sell; but it’s been in the family for 44 years and he’s not rich. So it’s likely he’ll sell to Ford or McQueen’s grandkids or a museum in the medium-term. Maybe he’ll just “cash-in” and consign it to Profiles in History....

Its only worth "millions" if it were to sell for "millions." (and it could sell in that price range, but who knows at this point).

Much the same as movie posters that have been listed for sale for a $ million (or more).

They're not "worth" that until they actually sell for that price. (and even then, is [any item] actually 'worth' the price that 2 heated bidders drove an item up to?)

Good point.

When I have been heated up, and won, in my inventory I always note its worth as being where the majority of the bidders were before we went nuts.
