A medium size, French (23.5 x 31.5 inches) poster for the flick, Moment Of Danger (1960), starring Dorothy Dandridge, Trevor Howard and Edmund Purdom.

That's nice Jeff!

Nice pick up!
(The WB is a little distracting though)

Those Warner Bros liked to let the public know when it was their movie. 8)
-
Indeed >:(
-
I think the WB shield is great. Its bold, bright and works. :)
-
That's nice Jeff!
Thanks, Chris.
What drew me on it was that Dorothy Dandridge stars. I haven't seem much of her work, and I like her. So once again, this poster did its job and now has me on the lookout for it.
-
Who is the artist on that one?
Very striking, Warner logo 'n' all.
-
Nice one Jeff! The colors are great :D thumbsup.gif
-
I believe the art is by Constantin Belinsky.
Nice purchase, Jeff.

That is cool, Jeff, but it's not the WB logo that I find distracting...

I always enjoy it when I see you've posted in the latest acquisitions thread! Those Star Wars quads are fantastic. I like the artwork, and appreciate the story of where they came from. Congratulations, you must be very happy.
-
yup, pretty chuffed. I was watching them all week, messaged the seller if buy it now in mind & even offered more than i actually paid! The price was only £20 for the set with 10mins to go & i was just watching & waiting for the dealers to ruin my day! never materialised & only had, i think, 2 other bidders. treated the missus to a nice curry to celebrate thumbsup.gif.
With Man in White Suit - the seller sold the poster for just shy of £90 - over my price range/bid - but then sent me a message - he had another. Excellent! Even better he sold it to me for my meagre £50 bid. Bonus! The wife didnt get a curry thou this time crying
-
I can well imagine how happy you were. Do you know where the other 2 are? I pressume they printed a Rey and Ren also?
-
I did think that but the seller said he only saw 6 but who knows someone else may have got to them 1st. I'll try & hunt down some images of the premiere on Google to see if they were printed.
-
Nice adds there, Mike. All look to be in top condition, too. clap clap
-
Good stuff, Mike. Jealous of the SW and Man in the White suit quads!
-
I think there is a good chance they were printed. The European Premier was at The Royal Albert Hall and they had the more traditional posters mounted on board, strapped to the barriers. Maybe these were used inside the Cinema?
I got some pieces from the Dark Shadows Premiere and they had some different posters printed for inside of the venue to what was displayed outside for the cameras. In fact they had only 1 of a particular style that I was fortunate enough to get, literally just before it was about to be trashed. Priceless to me, worthless to everyone else!

After my purchase of the US one-sheet for The Mummy's Curse (1944) last month, I received today the 3-sheet for that same movie. There are obviously some condition issues, but I feel that they're not too distracting, as most of the damage is in the credit area.
-
Nice, Ben... thumbsup.gif clap clap
Isn't this the copy from ebay that we were discussing a short time ago?
Will you have it backed and "spruced up?"

Ah ha! So, that's where it ended up. I bid on it as well. Congratulations, Ben. Okie

I've asked the Prince Charles Cinema before for a poster and offered to buy some of their 70mm presentation quads but they rejected me too. The girl at the counter told me that they usually put the posters FOR FREE in an area near the ticket counter for whoever comes by. This is done only when all the screenings of that film is done. It's a thing of luck apparently - first come first served as I remember.
That was almost 3 years ago, not sure if the policy has changed.
-
Jeff, you are correct, this is the copy that recently sold on eBay. Given the condition issues, I waited until the price went down a bit when the seller listed it a second time with a lower starting bid. Obviously this is a good candidate for backing, but as you know, I'm very reluctant to back any poster, so I'm hesitant at this point. If I do decide to have it linen backed, I will refrain from any re-touching/airbrushing, only providing a support for the paper to ensure its future conservation. I'm not a big fan of the overly pristine look.
Sorry to have been bidding against you, Okie!
-
Im the same way, Ben. Id do the least amount of work needed -- to support, conserve and repair the weak areas or splits and nothing more. thumbsup.gif

I just received this in the mail today. I bought it off of Ebay. Not so much for the poster but because I wanted to see firsthand the size of a 3 Sheet. I LOVE this size of poster. I like it much better than the OS. Must get more. (Sorry for the bad link. I am trying to figure out how to post it). I will keep trying.

Hi Matt,
You've been bit by the new photbucket policy. Unless you give them a bucket full of cash, they won't show anyone else your images. We just get to see that nasty speedometer.
-
I use Post Image...
-
Thanks for letting me know about Photobucket so that I did not try 50 more combinations trying to get it to work. And I will try Post Image. Thank you.

When they dropped their demand from $400 pa to $100 pa I thought that reasonable and re-joined. The bonus was that all the images in my library were still there which means that my historic threads on this forum now show images again.

I'm new to the forum and have quite a few recent acquisitions which I'll look to share when I get them unpacked and laid out.
However, I thought I'd post my most recent, and most painful, purchase - a mint, rolled 1976 King Kong advance one sheet bought off eBay. When I saw the tube I knew I was likely in for trouble.
It was a sturdy enough tube, so i figured that whatever crushed it during transit from the US must have been heavy... Maybe the wheel of the aircraft?
Right enough, opening it up I could immediately see the poster was bashed, but worse still there was a tear at the top. Further inspection showed some creases running down a poster which had remained in mint condition for over forty years - and which is seared into my memory from having seen it promoting the film while holidaying as a child.
Fortunately, it was shipped through, eBay's own global economy shipping service. Upon seeing the pictures they immediately apologised and provided me a refund on both the poster plus shipping/customs charges.
Even more fortunately, the seller, who's a really nice guy, had another one of these for sale in the same condition, so I've bought it. He's kindly going to look into placing the poster in a tube inside the tube, to offer more protection. Does this seem like a good idea?
I now have a damaged 1976 King Kong that I've been told by eBay that I don't need to return, and is still displayable, but I'm just glad to have a mint one on the way and will breathe easy when it's here and framed.
Desk
-
A lot of sellers have no idea what they're doing. What he needs to do is roll the poster tighter than the tube so that the poster doesn't touch the inside of the tube. It's not that difficult and will prevent most damages.
T
-
Whta is interesting from your pics, too, Desk, is that the tube was pierced as well as crushed, with that tube damage enough to cause that tear in the poster, rather than the poster being just dinged at the top.
But im certainly happy to hear that A: the shipping program refunded you your purchase price AND allowed you to keep the poster (no dealing with having to mail it back) and B; that the seller had another copy.
You mention that you had to buy the second copy. Could you also have mailed the damaged copy back (seller of global program having to pay for a return shipping label) and would the seller have then sent you the undamaged copy for no charge?
Since it arrived damaged & not as described, you could have maybe gone that route, too?
But all's well that ends well. And nice poster, too! clap clap.
-
This is mentioned elsewhere, but as T (eatbrie) says, the tighter rolling is key otherwise any dent of the tube gets translated to the poster.
What has also been discussed is that when dealing with a seller unknown to you, I, and T, and I daresay others, bullet point the request as to exactly how to pack.
Be it luck or what, but I now rarely have such problems...
Glad it was all refunded.
-
Another problem here is eBay's GSP. Once the package gets to the GSP distribution centre from the seller it is quite often repacked ineptly by the GSP employees. I had a daybill FOLDED vertically across the centre to fit inside a small envelop thanks to the GSP morons...ugh

I'd love to know what gives them the option of opening another person's parcel for this "repackaging" in the first place? Must be in their fine print somewhere. And you'd think if enough damage complaints came thru, this would no longer be allowed, anyway. (I'm sure the GSP has been talked about up in the other boards, too - either the shipping or seller round table).

Several years of perusing these boards and I figure I've heard and read it all...
Not so, evidently.
I do ask now if sellers advertising this method of posting would consider shipping themselves - I have to weigh it all up; pros and cons if to go ahead and bid or not.

A nice, added touch, for sure!

Hi all,
Finally made my first purchase. Picked up this Australian Daybill of The Long Hot Summer. Quite pleased with it. Although I did panic a bit when I measured it and found it was slightly wider than 13". But then did a search on the forum and found that Australian Daybills seem to be hit and miss with the sizes.
If you spot anything wrong with the poster please let me know, as I am always looking for advice.
Also forgive the photography - first attempt, thanks.
-
Looks in really nice condition, too!
Congrats on the first pick-up, Andy!! clap clap

Just a few posts above I shared the tale of woe about my King Kong 1976 one sheet which arrived mangled courtesy of eBay's Global Shipping System.
Well, unbelievably I'm now two-for-two.
Following a refund from eBay themselves, today the replacement arrived, again in a pretty sturdy tube, rolled tighter inside in paper, and again the poster itself had sustained damage.
No tear this time, but a big bash which has translated into creases and bashes the length of the poster. The damage can be viewed here... http://imgur.com/a/DLlW3 (http://imgur.com/a/DLlW3)
I wish I'd read the postings here about the perils of eBay's Global Shipping System before going ahead with the replacement. I'm not sure how eBay will handle this, because from my perspective this is not the mint poster I paid a good bit of money for, but needless to say I'll not be buying anything in get future which ships through eBay's Global Shipping System!

Sorry to hear about your troubles with GSP. Personally if a seller lists with GSP I always ask if they will ship themselves via regular post. If they don’t I won’t bid. Lost a mint US 30x40 Escape from a New York with GSP.

If you like Dan Goozee's perspective art, you can see a bunch of concept arts on this site. All originals owned by the first chap to do a poster book on Bond.
All sorts of weird angles up the Eiffel Tower and on top of the extended ladders of a fire truck. Brilliant stuff.

This second link will have Bond actually aiming at something.

Wow, that's an amazing collection of Bond art. Some good, some not so good but what amazes me is that the collector managed to track down (and afford) all those pieces. Very impressive.

I have no idea what I'm going to do with this 9-panel monster! I think the only reason it's still around is because it was used indoors instead of being wheat pasted up on the side of building. The top sections were all taped up, but the bottom 3 panels were totally unused.
That's a 6' ruler by the way! :o
-
Bloody hell.
I was about to ask what size that measured up to, but only because I didn't See the 6' ruler.
What is that then, 15' across?

Yes, Thomas Nixdorf does have The most impressive collection of original art. He used to concentrate on normal posters, as we do, but he has shifted focus by selling that and buying the other.
He curated an exhibition in Germany around the time of SPECTRE. And I recently acquired the brochure that accompanied the exhibition. The word 'brochure' hardly does this justice though as it is a simply massive tome-like production. Unfortunately, I cannot speak German, and neither have I found anyone with an electronic version of the text that I could sift through a translator. A pity as there is a mountain of text and information too.
He is now an email friend, and the odd thing does pass between us if we can 'share' auction lots.

Yes, roughly 12 x 15'.

How did you acquire it?
Indeed, how did you photograph it?
And when you decide, please tell us what you will do with it.

I was teetering on the top of a 15' ladder and I still could not get the whole poster photographed! I was trying to reach my hand up extra high and shoot blind to get a little extra height. But I made the mistake of looking down and had to give up after getting Vertigo.
And in local news, a man fell to his death today while trying to photograph poster for "The Good Life" :o
I bought it from a French seller who had a lot of billboards. It came with an extra text-only poster highlighting the win at Cannes. They were probably printed in very limited numbers and this is the only copy I've ever seen or heard of. Perhaps most interesting is that the art is slightly different -- notably Mastroianni's face/expression.

Just make sure I am still chief beneficiary in your will Matt ;)
Great (and massive) poster!

Quite a few came this month. All Japanese B1. Animation, Ghibli, Disney and some random ones.
Particularly surprised by the printing quality of the Steamboy. Thick paper stock but double-sided!

Nice pickups, wormie. clap clap
Do you know... is this Cinderella B1 a first release?
-
Yes, roughly 12 x 15'.
That's what I'm talking about, Harrry C.! Huge and beautiful! That's a poster worthy of buying the right house to display. Okie
-
Not sure, but I believe it is a 1974 re-release given the title being シンデレラ姫, instead of the original title シンデレラ.

AVTAK was better than Brosnans Bonds (except GE , that was the only good Brosnan Bond imo) , Zorin was among the best villains ever and May Day was memorable too (you could even make a case that MD inspired later villains like Onatopp)
The plot was ahead of it's time and seemed like something that could actually happen in real life (triggering an earthquake) , it's not virus orbs from space like MR.
US fans also forget it's cool to see SF and the city for those not in US.

Thanks for the info on the updated, Japanese title,, too. Does the revised title translate to basically the same as the original?
-
You are right. They are pretty much the same.

From what I could find, the original title was シンデレラ姫, which if you read it literally means "Cinderella Princess". According to Wikipedia, this title was used from the original release in 1952 until a 1974 re-release. After that, the title changed to シンデレラ.
This poster is advertising the Japanese dubbed version (日本語版) which was released in 1961 and distributed by 日本RKO.
Subsequent re-releases were distributed by Buena Vista or Toho.
