I wonder how long the record will hold?
-
What is this about, an old story or new.
I guess I shouldn't have bitten
-
Oops sorry, thought I pasted it in the original post.
http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&Auction_uid1=4898681
It is not an "old story", as it just happened.
The poster sold for the most money that poster has ever sold for, and it was only in "fair to good" condition.
-
I don't get it... with 1000 auctions a week, is this the only poster that sold higher than it has done in the past.
By the sound of this announcement I thought you had sold a poster for many $100,000's Doh.gif
-
Ha ha ha, funny Bruce.
The title of this post is almost as ludicrous as some others I've read recently. Nice!!!

Congratulations on the record - great way to start off the year! thumbsup.gif

Good one Bruce ;D
-
Must admit, I too was believing something went for squillions.
Anyway, as records go, in the poster world I am sure it is something to note.
-
I guess this is another joke that I don't get. :-[ How can it be the most this poster has ever sold for when the listing states it's the first time you've sold it? Wouldn't it always hold that record until you sell another? Again, I think I/we are missing something here!
-
I think what he means here is that he has reviewed all the other poster auction site histories, and his price is the most it has gone for in that respect.
-
Oh I see. Well done to Bruce and T for a new record then, (although I'm sure T would prefer not to hold this record!)
-

That's how I understood it too. Well done Bruce and T :)
A way to underline the importance of selling less crap and go for unique items

Wait, Thierry paid the highest price ever for a poster?!? What are you trying to do give him a heart attack?!? 8)
-
I guess in the long run most see it as funny and not a big deal that Emovieposter willingly keeps a commercial reprint in their archives.
I always understood that to be against everything Emovie tries to do.
Armin (Posteroid) who most will agree is a Japanese poster expert (since obviously I am not), has now also posted agreeing that the Godzilla poster is a commercial reprint.
But hey, if Bruce needs to save face and preserve his $76 dollar sale, so be it.

Well, I actually didn’t research it much. I usually check Bruce’s auctions the morning of the sale, but in this case, it was less than an hour before the sale. I collect Grace Kelly, I had never seen this poster, and I wanted it. At $850, I’m quite okay being the highest bidder.
I think it’s all a joke, but if it’s not, I’d like to know how Bruce gets his info. I checked this morning and it seems neither he nor Heritage have ever sold it.

Nor has it sold recently on eBays; .com, .co.uk or .it.

Just messing with you. It’s a gorgeous design and must be impressive at that size to boot.

A quick search online offered up this other copy that was sold at some point. No details of when it sold, who sold it or for how much, was provided, however. Maybe a little more digging will offer up those answers. sherlockholmes.gif

Is there a way to look at past auctions sales?

T
Yup - to the right of the search box is the word Advanced. Pop in there and you can tick the boxes Sold and / or Completed. Then click Search.
Sold seems to do the trick.
-
But even if it turns out it DIDN'T sell for the most money EVER, this topic will remain on AllPosterForum forever, because that is how it is here.

Can't argue with that! Fair play.

I think everyone on here gets your point - you have two threads going and are now posting on another thread - move on!!!!!
Good to see you back posting Bruce, well done on the sale and nice pick up T

Great poster T. Condition so-so.. You may need to upgrade.
-
My wife would probably rate our lovemaking as "fair to good" too

That's great news, you haven't turned her to liking women instead yet

Shhhhh... I may linenback it, but don't tell anyone.

This is one of the difficulties of grading unrestored posters. There are ones in "fair to good" that can be restored and look quite nice afterwards (and without "dipping it in paint") and then there are others whose defects are so severe that the only way to make them presentable is to airbrush over huge sections of the poster.
T rightfully recognized that this is one of the former situations.
-
I wonder how long this new record will hold? And on a 1983 poster!
-
Was it me again ;D
I bid on that Wargames poster. $130, I think. No idea why. Love the movie, though. One of my 80s favs.
I wasn't paying attention, I guess.

Right poster, but you were outbid! You bid $125 and the other guy outbid you.
-
Oh, well, that's good. I don't want to own the most expensive poster EVER EVERY WEEK :)

You don't have to worry about that! We have some fanatical bidders who simply MUST have items they bid on, and often they act like price is no object.
And it is not "the most expensive posters" that jump out at me after another 999 auctions end. It is the poster that is not particularly rare, and yet it still goes for WAY more than it has previously gone for. In this case WARGAMES at $130 jumped out at me.

So you would say that High Society is not particularly rare, which is why it jumped at you?

THIS week, it was the high price on a relatively common poster!
LAST week, it was a very high price on a poster in MUCH lesser condition.
Next week, it might be something else entirely!
-
Ill try to surprise you.
-
Are you having your poster worked on by Poster Conservation Inc? It just showed up on their Instagram feed today.
-
Bruce made such a big deal about this poster... ;)
And for once, I disagree with him. A MUCH LESSER CONDITION poster???

I was going to linenback it, but I think not. It's totally fine as is.

Looks awesome as is, T.
Beautious!

Great looking poster---gratz!

I like Bruce's grading and that is a super poster, T! Okie
