I have always been a fan of FLASH GORDON. I loved the Alex Raymond comic strip and the old Buster Crabbe serials.
But the only things I liked about the Mike Hodges 1980 'remake' was the soundtrack by Queen, Max Von Sydow as Ming and Ornella Muti as Princess Aura.
I think it screams out to be remade.
Any casting suggestions?
-
I gotta disagree on this one. The 1980 version is brilliant and should be left alone. It was intentionally campy before it was popular to do so, and it stands the test of time as being one of my favorite of the 1980's fantasy/sci-fi films.
-
I might very well be in the minority on this one...IMDB gives it 6.2 out of a 10.
I still would like to see it remade -- camp included. ;)
-
The Shining.
Oh, wait, Stephen King already did that. Nevermind...
;D
-
Jason and the Argonauts, but done right. unlike clash of the titans was. Wouldn't we all like to see what cgi can do with the Skeletons battle.
-
I am with you on that, Paul. JASON is my favorite Harryhausen film but...American TV already remade it in 2000 and I thought it was abysmal, CGI FX and all...

Troy WITHOUT so MUCH of the CGI and without Brad Pitt...Oh and it should be at least 3 1/2 hours long :P
To be fair...Brian Cox, Peter OToole and the chick from National Treasure/Inglorious Basterds as Helen were pretty good in it. For different reasons.

It has been shown over here, I didn't sit through it all, it was that bad. This film needs a first rate production team, maybe Harryhausen could spearhead it. That would be cool.

Star Wars Trilogy...oh wait

I would actually like to see a remake of The Great Escape in the hands of the right director, though the casting department would have to be very careful with Steve McQueen's character (Daniel Craig maybe???). That is not to say that replacing any of the other legends would be easy, but McQueen was the lynch pin. I absolutely love the original, but I always felt like it had a very Disney feel to it. A gritter more realistic take would be very well received I think.

I for one would be happy if studios started coming up with original f*#king ideas instead of having their marketing departments trying to figure out how to convert our lifetime of fond movie memories into 3 measly days of opening-weekend windfall profits.
But hey, maybe that is just me.

And get off my lawn! :P

Jamaica Inn.
My FAVOURITE book, and could be such a good film, I would vote POLANSKI to make it.
-
The Infidel..quite a recent Brit movie about a devout Muslim adopted when he was a baby, who later finds out his real parents are Jewish.... was reasonably funny, but i think if the people from Curb Your Enthusiasm got involved it would be top notch.

I'd like to see a remake of DINOSAURUS, that 1960 sci-fi fantasy about a T Rex, Brontosaurus and Caveman thawed out in modern times. Some new CGI effects and...maybe Brandon Frazier as the Neanderthal (he was good as ENCINO MAN)... ;)

I do enjoy the first film with Laughton, but I'm on board for a remake, timing should be right as well.

Although the idea and or script have been languishing for years (along with various directors who were said to be attached, as well), i think a well scripted remake of Creature From the Black Lagoon, with limited, yet effective CGI for the creature's face, could do really well. Nothing can take the place of the original, but a more flushed out story and more realistic looking creature, i think, would do quite well at the BO.
Just DON'T make it into another teen-based flick, with the typical 4 couples camping down at some lake for the weekend....... :P

Seems it has been done, missed it but saw some of the final episode of a new mini series while in a caravan on a scottish isle. I'll catch it when I'm home.
On a related note, I went there on Saturday, Jamaica inn that is. I can now die happy.
-
The series didn't look to good Ari, don't hold your breath..

Movie:
Wonder what E.T. part 2 would be like? It bet a bag of reese's pieces it would definitely be profitable regardless if it was good or bad. plot line? hmm maybe a follow-up probe of Elllllleeeeeeeeeoooooooaaaat (Elliott)
Why: for the hopes 80's kids can take their kids, plus Spielberg is a really good guy.
-
I bet the new ET alien would be all CG, like Gollum was (via motion capture), in the LOTR movies.
-
I am coming up blank. I hate it when they remake something I consider a classic as they never do justice to the original. So most of the failed ones I can think of are for movies that should have never been made in the first place.
-
A Jaws remake based on the book.....it could be better than III & IV , possibly decent like 2.
-
I'd like to see a remake of Target Earth (1954)

Ok I'll play, here are my suggestions:
The Black Hole - this could be great with some good creative people behind it, the framework story works they just need to keep it from being silly
Devil's Rain - I imagined a Josh Brolin as a sheriff out west in a sort of No Country for old men with devil worshippers
Logan's Run - I LOVE this movie but it is dated and a new version could be a lot of fun with a good budget behind it
Silent Running - again so topical for now with its environmental message , this is ripe for remake potential and dear god please no Joan Baez songs on the soundtrack
cheers

That one was so heavy handed that the Joan Baez songs were the best part.

I was watching the Eiger Sanction and thought a modern update would be the ticket. Maybe with someone more believable as a killer... I just could never trust the Eastwood was this cold hard killer for money.
-
Godfather III.
Please. Or a new Director's cut. Love the ending. Love the beginning. But always disappointing in between.
-
I'd like to see a remake of One Million Years BC, starring Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Amber Heard.
Yeah, that would make my millennium.
Oh, and Scarlett Johansson, too.
cheers
-
I'd like a remake of A Chorus Line, or better still, release the Broadway stage recording. What they did to that show was criminal.
-
I'd like to see a remake of Nude on the Moon, starring Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Amber Heard.
Yeah, that would make my millennium.
Oh, and Scarlett Johansson, too.

and Dreamscape.

Two great stories that were completely overlooked when they came out and could benefit from today's effects.

-
I agree with both of those. I still enjoy both, but yeah... the effects are a little (or a lot) dated.
-
T with the Dennis Quaid fetish.
I have a 30 x 40 for that Dreamscape. Thought it was a pretty cool movie that no one saw.
No remake. Just watch it.
Edit: Here she is. Too many posters unsorted. :-[
