Title: Hello everyone!
Post by: RobaFett on December 05, 2017, 05:11:14 PM
Hello, new member Rob here. Thanks for letting me join. Just getting into the hobby and was hoping to learn the tricks of the trade when it comes to helping identify real from fakes. Right now the only one I'm looking at is a poster from the DOOM movie from 2005. I know it wasn't a good movie and not even sure if it would be something even worth trying to replicate, but I collect DOOM merchandise as well as stuff from other game series, so I will probably branch out and go for other movie posters based on games. I'm also into Star Wars as well as other sci-fi and fantasy films so I'm sure I'd eventually like to get some of those as well.

Looking forward to getting to know you all and learning more from you all about this fun-looking hobby!

welcome1, Rob and have fun here on the forum.

There are many sci-fi and fantasy poster collectors here, too, so you're in good company.

And post a pic of the poster you're looking for, when you get a chance.

Jeff

Thank you for the welcome. Here's a picture of the poster in question. As far as I know this is the only poster we got over here in the states and its considered a teaser, rather than an official movie poster that would have credits at the bottom. I know the size I should be looking for is 27x40, but I keep seeing ones that are single sided and ones that double sided. I'm not sure what I should be looking for and whether or not both kinds are official or just one.

Rob,

check here for others previously sold. It was produced in both as a single sided and double sided poster:

Hey Rob. I have a small stack of those. If you give me a little time I can pull one for you. The stack is about 1000 posters and hopefully it is near the top. It is in mint condition and has been stored flat since 2005.

Actually this one is a good deal on ebay and is DS.
I would always choose DS when it is possible.

Thanks! I just now noticed that the picture is actually cut off on posts; guess I'll have to re-size it. Forgive me, as I'm a complete newbie to the world of movie posters, but what do terms like "style C" and "B2" mean? Akira and Armitage III were some of the first anime movies I ever rented from Blockbuster back in the early 90's, which made me fall in love with the genre, so the film definitely holds a special place in my heart. Would love to actually own an official poster one day.

Sorry for all the jargon!  I'm indeed talking about the Akira poster -- one of my favorite films and a title I've collected on for a good long time.  Probably going on a decade.  There were many posters printed for that (landmark) film and the style you have pictured is the rarest of all of them!

As for sizes, Japanese posters use a "B" size system.  A Japanese B1 (~28x40") is roughly the same size as a US 1-sheet (27x40"). A Japanese B2 (20x28") is half the size of a B1.  Likewise a B0 (~57x40") is twice the size of a B1 and so forth up and down the line.

Welcome rob fitting name for your first poster because you are probably "doomed" after that...ie. statements like  "oh yeah I have a stack of 1000 posters I can check"
