Nice going everyone to start the month. Some good stuff there.
Here's my contribution so far this month. I've kind of slowed down my purchases, but still got a few good things (or at least I think so).

Congrats and underplayed as per usual.
Your "small" collection of 200+ (http://eatbrie.com/SW.html) includes virtually every major 1S, including the "first draft" of ESB (only six known) (http://eatbrie.com/large_posters_files/Starwarsempirestrikesback41.jpg).
Your new Hildebrandt is also ridiculously rare, only 3 ever sold at HA/EMP, 9/10 rarity here

Nice pickups, all the way around, so far, good poster gents. A wide and varied presentation so far this month. sm1

What do y'all think?
Well, you know I've never been a huge fan of posting my new acquisitions. I didn't do it for years. I do it now, about once a month, because I was asked by people who were too lazy to visit my website. Also, to me, it's all about the chase. Once I get a poster, it immediately loses its shine and I turn to the next best thing. So it's not so much that I'm underplaying, but more like I was so much more excited about the item a week or two before I actually post it on the forum. Plus, I collect what I like and I know a lot of people couldn't care less about it, so no need to make a lot of noise.
And in the case of Star Wars, there are so many other posters I want to acquire that my collection is nowhere near what I want it to be.

Congrats again on the pickups T, awesome as always.
Just for reference, the ESB "International" is nowhere near as rare as it is made out to be, there have been more than 20 unique copies sold in the last few years that I can think of off of the top of my head without checking my records. I stopped tracking them when they passed the 25+ known mark some time ago. These though yes limited are definitely not all proofs or test posters and had to be released to some degree in my opinion. At the same time I wish I had bought all I could get when they were cheap in the $200 range, I could almost retire now.
-
Undead - Do you happen to know how comparably scarce the UK quad, with the same artwork, is?
Mark
-
How do you know they're unique? I mean, a mint rolled poster (or a mint LB poster) looks like a mint rolled poster, whether it shows up on Ebay, at Bruce's, at Grey's, or anywhere else.

Where were they sold?
I'm going by EMP's 2017-03 write-up:
http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/6798125.html (http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/6798125.html)
Important Added Info: This is an ultra rare Star Wars poster, that has quite a story behind it! In 2009, a Japanese collector discovered two examples of this poster. He sent one to eMoviePoster.com to auction, where it sold for $1,827 (to the world's number one Star Wars collector, Steve Sansweet), and the other was sold privately to Kevin Doyle, one of the world's other foremost Star Wars collectors at that time. At the time we auctioned the first example, we said that it could be a "bootleg" poster, or possibly a "test" poster, and since it was discovered in Japan, it seemed quite possible it was an "international" style. In 2015, the poster that Kevin Doyle purchased privately was consigned to us (like all of his Star Wars posters, he had had it linenbacked), and this second example of the poster auctioned for $5,450. The poster features Roger Kastel's original art for this poster, but after he drew it, the studio decided it was "too busy", and they removed several of the elements from the poster (Lando, Boba Fett, Cloud City, and the ion cannon). So this poster was clearly produced BEFORE that decision was made, so how then could it be explained? After he purchased the poster from us, Steve Sansweet told us that he believes that it is absolutely an advance test poster made prior to the decision to alter the image (he knows that it is of such high quality that it surely was made from the original, and since the artwork no longer exists, it could not have been made at a later time). At the time of the second auction in 2015, we were told by one of the leading Star Wars poster dealers that he knew of the existence of a total of six of these posters that had "surfaced" since the movie was made in 1980, and that three of them had originated in Japan, but that he did not know where they currently were or even if they still exist, and we can't comment on the accuracy of that information, although we trust the dealer, since he has been a major Star Wars poster dealer for many years. A third example of this poster was consigned to us in 2016, and we auctioned it for $7,750. That made three examples of this poster that we had auctioned, two of which were linenbacked. Now, we have been consigned a fourth example, and this one is not backed (as two of the others we auctioned were). This makes the fourth time we have auctioned this exceedingly rare poster, and it is surely one of the most rare (and most desirable) Star Wars posters there is.

Several ESB have sold on yahoo Japan the past few years. I would imagine of those sold, you have seen some of them appear on emovie.
-

T
T, I use images from buyers and sellers. Any small damage, water spot, etc. is unique like a fingerprint. Take yours for example, there is more than one copy with the foxing in the border but the exact locations of those spots is never the same unless it is an image of the same poster. A linen backed poster will always have the edges trimmed slightly different or the thread slightly off center compared to another. If I can't tell it from another by some method it does not get counted as a unique copy. This has only happened twice so far for them. Before you ask more, yes I studied forensics for a time specializing in identifying things like this, artificial aging, etc. My focus was on metal and fabrics mostly but it translates to paper items very well. That does not mean that I cannot have a copy more than once if the damage has changed over time.
Mark, the ESB quad I would put at only very slightly more common but comes to sale less often.

Mel, what does '9/10 rarity' mean?
-
Mel, what does '9/10 rarity' mean?
It means Mel doesn't see it in 9 out of 10 days of poster searching.
It's a bit like being 9/10 an Elite Poster Collector. One might have a pretty good collection of posters, but be just missing the superiority
-
Her nose disturbs me
Her nostrils do dominate a bit. ;D
But overall, I think it's beautifully done.
-
Mel, what does '9/10 rarity' mean?
I think Mel is referring to the ‘Jawa rating’ on the Star Wars Movie Poster site that he linked to. They assign a rarity to each poster:

Thanks guys! I'm especially happy to have landed that British poster for Devil Girl, I have been looking for a folded copy for a while.
Also glad to get my hands on The Nude Vampire, as it completes the trio of French 1P designed by the great Druillet for those early Jean Rollin movies that I own; Le Viol du Vampire and Le Frisson du Vampire being the other 2 (all of them are pretty bad by the way, the posters being by far the best thing about those films!).

Jelly of that Blade Runner. Also the Devil Girl. I'm just jealous all around.

Only one for me in the 1st session. Out of 3 I wanted. Laura 3sht. A must since it is in my top 5 favorite movies...
A perfect example of the linenbacked posters I am willing to buy. Don't know where else I'd get one and it is in very fine condition.

I now own the 1/2 sheet, OS, 3sht, Lobby set and ultra rare French on the title.

Well done T. I had a feeling you were gonna go for this. It's a beauty for sure.
Laura and Leave Her to Heaven are my absolutely favourite films and the posters are right up there for sure.

Landed the La Dolce French 1P (LB) from HA:

Marcello Mastroianni portrays a journalist at a crossroad in his life. He is unable to find happiness in his relationships, and instead seeks his own ideals in the lives of the aristocracy he follows. This wonderful French poster by Yves Thos for Federico Fellini's masterpiece depicts one of the film's most memorable moments, that of Marcello's idealized worship of Anita Ekberg as a goddess.

Ha!!! Finally got a folded Rear Window at a decent price.

One of my sub collections, abeit a very small one, is Hitchcock. I'd love to one day own ALL of Hitchcock's OS from 1940 on... A dream. I own a few but I'm so, so far from achieving my goal. The guy made A LOT of movies. It's really one at a time.
All folded except for North by Northwest. Don't know why. It was in mint folded condition and I decided, years ago, to linenback it. I'll probably rebuy at some point.

I think so too, although I couldn't find comps anywhere. This 3sht is a first on HA, and Emovie has never sold one. Part of the reason why I decided to go for a LB version.

So I'm done with this sale. I missed on a few pieces because the sale was still going when my game started. Probably because the 1st auctioneer was so slow and delayed the whole thing. Oh well...

And of course, each movie has been re-released so many times. Even making a collection of One Sheets from say, Rebecca, would be a task in itself.

Beautiful pickup here, Ben. I've always really liked the imagery on this poster, too.

So true.
And then you have the French and Italians, which are usually vastly superior in design. And the French and Italian releases. This Italian 2F by Nistri, for example, is my favorite North by Northwest. It took me forever to locate a mint folded copy and it is a 66 re-release. So the rest of them... Good luck!

I already had this as a B2 so wasn't sure if I'd bother when I found a B1, partly due to cost. I'm glad I did though as it's really nice, good quality thick paper.

Also got this JP B1 for my favourite Batman movie. Very glossy double-sided video poster with the normal 'totem style' on the reverse.

Does the "stack/totem" imagery on the back have the title in Japanese? Or is it also in English?
-
Surprisingly English also. I have a couple of JP video posters that only use English, not sure why though.
-
I'd love to know why there are some JP posters done only in English, too. I've never quite understood that, either.
Is there anything on this poster that shows it being printed in Japan? (Or maybe it wasn't?)
I was hoping it looked something like the B2 theatrical:
-
It does, this is the back. There is nothing that would tie this poster to Japan, except the B1 size and the fact that I purchased it from Japan. It also has some hangers (which I've removed) which are the same as some other Japanese posters I own. Although I wouldn't stand up in court and say it was Japanese I'm fairly sure it it.
Not sure why they would use English text though.

Many thanks! cheers

I like, too, that it's a double sided poster, with TWO completely different image styles on the front and back.
It's like you got a 2-for-1 Special! :D

Nothing special, a few from the past couple of weeks, things I was still missing... and my 3rd Once Upon a Time in the West, just because the price was right. The Halloween is kinda fun, though.

3rd?!
Why?
Need something other than a right price...
-
I know, it's something I do and it's stupid. If I see something and the price is too good to pass, I get it. Now the stupid part comes from the fact that since I never sell, it ends up in a drawer and it makes no sense. I have to stop.
T
-
You always look for the best condition poster, but it you lined up all of these 3 copies side by side, would they basically be identical, condition-wise?
-
They are all mint. I only buy sub condition posters if I cannot find them mint. Otherwise, I wait. There are other posters I need to fulfill my craving... ;D

It could be worse - you forget you have something and buy it again... It has happened to me a couple times. Two for the Road and Paris When is Sizzles are great examples. I kept getting these two confused and which one I had. So I have two of each now - I think. ;)
When I was actively backing stuff - I would buy a second or third just because they were in poor condition they are price right. I have a extra Superman, Cat on Hot Tin Roof HS, Funny Face OS, two extra Scarface OS, and an extra Mad Max US OS... All still waiting to be restored.

Glad to know I'm not the only one :) What I have the most of I think is Star Wars, 3 dated revenge, 4 style A, 3 ESB GWTW... The rest of it, it's just 2 of this, 2 of that, sometimes 3, like Once Upon a Time... I don't want to have doubles and triples, but if the price is right... I see a lot of folks at Emovie buying the same posters over and over and over again, so I know there are more crazies out there. The difference is, they don't seem to care about price or condition. I do.
Lobby cards, that's a different story, because not everything I have is on my website, and I don't always have access to my spreadsheet, so I forget and re-buy. I have a lot of multiples there.

I think the Hildebrandt is amazing in person. Give it another try. The Chantrell is alright, but maybe I've seen it too much. Between the US style C and the common quad, it's not that special anymore. To me at least.

Believe it or not I have very few duplicates a this point. When I upgrade I offer the lesser one up here or send it to Bruce to sell. Of the duplicates I do have I think only one is technically a key poster. Any others are stupidly common.
I am missing a few key posters but getting a deal on them with you around is not always easy. ;D Yes I am busting your chops.

So I went thru my list and as of TODAY I still need to buy 51 posters from the original trilogy to be happy with my collection. No billboard posters, not interest in those, but anything smaller in a must.
23 US and 28 Foreign posters.
I promise to leave it alone once I'm done :)
