That To catch a Theif half sheet is fantastic Harry, never mind the set-up.

Thanks Paul!  Its my favorite paper for the film... I love how Grace's hair flows smoothly into the courtyard lights.  The 6-sheet is the only other poster with the artwork like this.  For the rest of the posters they split the two halves and displayed them over-under.

It is pretty awesome ! Keep it up !!

Squeezebox (network music player and wireless bridge)
KEF XQ series floorstanding speakers
4 Mirage Ominsat surrounds
Mirage OMD-C2 center channel
SVS PB-13 Ultra Sub

I am pretty sure I do, though the exact numbers seem to be foggy for some reason.....

I just bought the Epson 8350 and a Da-lite 106" manual to drop in front of the 65" sammy DLP. The wife doesnt know yet, just gonna set it up in the basement and see how long it takes her to see it. We primarily watch stuff upstairs in the family room, but my son has been spending time downstairs on the PS3 and watching stuff so I figured screw it, I wanted to try front projection for a long time now, so get in cheap and play for a while until I can get a fixed screen up. Our setup will never be right cause the basement is open behind the theater area and no way to close it off.

That is a sweet projector... you (and your son) will be quite happy!  Its hard to go back to a 50 or 60" screen after getting used to so much screen area.  You will be going from a 65" screen with 12.5 sq. ft of viewing area to a 106" screen with with a whooping 33.4 sq. ft of area!  Almost three times as much area!

Enjoy and post some pics after it is setup.

I always thought I would not have enough ceiling height for a projector with 7' ceilings downstairs, but the epson is unreal in placement options with the lense shift. I have a Sanford and Son setup right now, waiting on a mount to arrive. I wish I would have tried this years ago. Will not buy another TV for this viewing spot, that is for sure. Of course now I start looking at upgrading amps and speakers and everything else!

Speakers Onix Rockets x7, the fronts are the 750's. Company went belly up due to the owner being a crook, but they made some damn fine speakers for the money while they were alive.
Outlaw 750 amp, Acurus a250x3 for the fonts
Sunfire true sub signature
PS-3 for blu
Pany hd-dvd collecting dust
Onkyo Pr-SP885 driving the ship

Looking at  ;D
Emotiva 350x7 whenever it releases
Marantz AV7005
JTR Speakers

If you cant tell, I am a bang for the buck kind of guy!

If you cant tell, I am a bang for the buck kind of guy!

Pictures please!  I've definitely heard good things about the Rockets and the Outlaw.  And I have a definitive sub which is very similar to your Sunfire.

Nothing wrong with bang-for-the-buck.  For everyone who thinks a nice system will break the bank, just know that you can get some killer bargains over at www.audiogon.com.

I have a 12 year old amp that will probably wipe the floor with any modern amp under $1.5K.  Sure it only has dolby digital decoding, but so what... it has 5 channel input and my Blu-ray player (LG BD390) decodes all the latest codecs and puts them out over 5.1.  It also does not switch HDMI inputs (or any video inputs for that matter!), but my $40 HDMI switch from monoprice does... and even switches digital audio!  You can probably get a used amp like this for $200 these days.

Same for speakers... along as they aren't damaged, awesome speakers from the 1970s will still be awesome speakers.  Unlike solid state amp technology (which does progress at a decent pace), speaker technology is relatively stable.  Go to audiogon and pick up some 5-10+ year old speakers from some OCD audiophile (who probably took great care of them) who needs to have the latest and greatest.

You can put together a pretty epic system for well under a grand these days...

You Brits have access to some sweet equipment that is much more difficult to get in the US!  The bulk of my system is British... monitor audio and arcam.  It is so silky smooth.  Just the other afternoon my wife and I sat on the couch and listened to Pink Floyd The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here back to back to back... it was awesome!

Ok, let me preface this by stating this is the warehouse/poster work/store Dales crap area of the house! As you will see with the 1960's paneling, we did not invest a lot of money in what was to be a storage area  ;) The projector is going to get ceiling mounted and will put the cables through the ceiling to be a little less ghetto setup in the future.

The best things start from small seeds ddilts..is your subwoofer rear ceiling mounted?,if so,my humble advice is to make sure its located front centre...home cinema is unbeatable at the moment..

Sub is the little black box in the lower right corner of the last picture. Lot of output, took a lot of moving around to get it in a spot it didn't vibrate everything audibly. Probably 1 thing I never will upgrade, I see people with subs the size of a small car, I just dont have the room and honestly the only time I can get everything really pumping is when I am home alone anyway!

I have a Hi-Power and love it.  It greatly minimizes screen waves (which all pull-downs have) and the light boost is awesome.  It's like watching a giant flat panel.

Exactly... That's what I have with my floating shelf mounted Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector.

On low settings it looks like a giant flat screen. The big key to a High Power screen is to have the projector centered with the screen, and sit in front of the screen, not off to the sides.
Title: Re: What do you have ?!?

Yep it is a Hi-power. Looks great, not real expensive no wave as of yet.

Yeah, that's why HP screens are so great... Looks amazing with no waves/wrinkles ever showing.

If you don't already know this... The downside is if you are sitting off from the side of the screen... The brightness drops dramatically.

If you didn't do this already... If you can Dale, center your PJ (On a shelf behind you) with your HP screen, and try to lower your screen to where your eyes are above the bottom quarter of the screen. This way you can lower the settings (Brightness/contrast) of your PJ to give you bulb extra life, and to create less heat.

I guess I may as well put up my own specs.  It is a curtained off 13 x 20' section of the basement.  Projector is an Epson 8100 shining onto a 120" Elite screen.  A Panasonic BDP-210 Blu Ray player, an XBOX-360 and an old Laserdisc player feed in through an Onkyo 806 receiver.  Used to have a TWC DVR, but I recently dropped cable, and haven't set up an OTA solution yet.  Speakers are Klipsch. KG-4 for the mains, RC-35 for the center and RS-3 surrounds.  The sub is a Velodyne 12".

Chairs are Berkline 12011s, a single row of 4.  A rear Bar area is under construction.  Of course, everything is under construction and the theater evolves over time.

last year I put in my bedroom a jvc dla x7 3d hd projector, a 100" screen innovations screen, a pioneer elite receiver, and in wall speakers with a definitive subwoofer. This is my third setup since 1999.

the screen innovations screen really makes the picture truly awesome. I tried it on a wall at first and the picture was very good, but with the screen the picture is insane. It is grey so it enhances the black and contrast levels so it looks as good as an lcd. I haven't even tried the 3d function, and I probably never will. In a few years I'll get a 4k jvc projector. Saw them at ces, they are ridiculous.

4k is 4x the resolution of hd.

It does indeed. You know your stuff.
It's the second one i have owned. The last one i hit so hard (after it chewed my VHS copy of 'The Doors' which had sentimental value) that the case crushed nearly everything inside and sliced into the power cord which then electrified the entire casing! I found that out when i went to try and correct it. I still have it in the attic for spare parts. I also have 4 boxed VHS players up there, all new. 2 Toshiba and 2 Sony. I have a lot of tapes which will need players so now I'm future-proofed ;D

I only have 1 VHS player, a Mitsubishi SVHS unit, and it's in storage.  I do have three laserdisc players and 2 HD-DVD players though, for the same futureproof reason.  Just couldn't resist buying a mountain of those HD-DVD discs back when they were $1/ea.  Also have an HD-DVD drive and someday I will rip the discs to the hard drive.

ide love to say im not impressed but i am!
whilst i HATE VHS [well storing them and how the picture looks on them] there is something pretty cool about sticking to your guns
having racks of VHS looks somehow better than dvd, which is just kind of..... well childish i think ? i dunno i just always expect to see disney on a dvd? which is dumb i know.
considering i now have somewhere in the region of 15K titles stored on dvd you would think ide know better haha.

I feel like a loser, because I am borrowing one of these new fangled TVs that are too wide, makes my VHS look silly.

The players, one is DVD, the other DVD/VHS combo, that I can transfer VHS to DVD (or DVD to VHS).

Bit of a mess, been lazy and watching a lot of tapes last few days.

All tapes on shelf are double stacked, and I have 6 large tubs full in another room, these are my "new acquisitions" that need to be watched and/or transferred to DVD.

Now I'm not a gaming person but i feel the need to keep my mind busy these days.
If i ever get a HD tv this will come in handy. Can't see it happening anytime soon though.

My friend gave me Grand Theft Auto and Alien V Predator for the PS3 so I'll give them a whirl.
Last time i played a playstation it was Colin McRae Rally on a PS1.

I'm getting bored just thinking about playing......

Grand Theft Auto is a lot of fun (the video game).  :P

Ari, a good one for multi-player is Left 4 Dead, a zombie game.

Once you find a genre of video games that you like, they're good fun.

Yep, I'm bored.
I just don't get video games.

Grand theft auto made me go bowling with some chick. What's the point in that?
Do i get to fuck her later?

And i thought the Alien game would be good but it blew as well.
Are all kids high when they play these games?

I'm an old gamer - I remember as a kid playing Pong over the neighbour's place back in the late 60s when it first came out (?) - then when video games really were hot in the late 70s and early 80s me and a mate would head up to a video parlour and play each Sunday night for a few hours.

I find it relaxing as in my young day I was a semi-full time sportsman and then had intense corporate life so it was a way to just chill out for a while.

In my 20s and 30s I didn't play much until my son was old enough/interested and then bought a Commodore VIC 20, then being the upgrade beast I am then then VIC 64 until gamer consoles started taking hold. When the Personal Computers came along I eventually networked the house and we had 4 computers (3 kids and me) on which all could play network games - generally it was my son and his mates, I gamed less then.

When online gaming started to take off I settled on playing America's Army (which was actually developed and released by the US Army), after a time I stopped again. I started up again a couple of years ago when I added an online game called TrackMania (ManiaPlanet) to my computer essentially so my young nephews could play when they came to visit, but uncle is competitive and like to be able to kick his nephews asses so I learnt to play it too, albeit I now much play infrequently. Still, I can hold my own against the young 'uns, when I last online I was good enough to be ranked top 20 in Australia (of about 2,000) and top 1000 in the world (of around 100,000).

I was great at Arcade Pong. Later I was there for Space Invaders, Galaga, Berserk, Ms. Pac Man in the arcades. They had an arcade right by the poker room in the Dunes Hotel where I played poker, so I would play games for hours, waiting for some suckers to get into a poker game, and there I was, a few feet away, always ready to play.

But after 1982 or so I never played again. I tried with my kids in recent years, but my reflexes were shot.

Before I became a full-time player in 1973, the prevailing theory was that you should play as many hours of poker as possible because your edge was pretty much the same overall, so the more hours you played the more you earned. But I contended that your earn was drastically higher playing with bad players, and since the house did not pay you to play, you should use extreme game selection, because you were far sharper when you played fewer hours (and quite often the game might stay "good" for 10 or 20 hours, and I NEVER left while it was still "good", so it really helped to start fresh).

And oddly, the game room was concealed from the poker room (because kids couldn't be near the gambling) so I actually did look a lot like the cat in your picture!

The thing about Arcade Pong was that you played against a real player (some friend of yours, or someone just standing there) and if you were both really good then the paddles got smaller and smaller until they were just like dots!

I played the other games so much that eventually I could make each game last like 20 minutes, which was important when you play for an hour or more at a time.

Right on, Bruce.  Sounds like you had poker all figured out, and also had fun in the downtime from the card table.

Arcade Pong where it's one player versus another sounds cool.  Reminds me of when I went to military school, and the game Street Fighter 2 was brand new, pretty much the most awesome video game at the time for a one versus one style arcade game.  The school had one in the break room where students could go in between classes, on the weekends, etc.  I practiced outside of school at a few convenience stores and arcades, and studied magazines for strategies, and I also had a knack for being good at it.  At school, I would dominate the competition.  The game is setup so the winner of the best of 3 rounds stays on the game, then the next competitor battles the winner, and the winner stays on the game until he/she loses (or break is over).  I can't remember how many times I was the first one on the game, and by the time break or whatever was over, I was still on there with people trying to defeat me.  Those were the glory days.  8)  The only bad thing was it was one more reason for the kids who were boarding students to despise me.  At least I had some fun mixed in with the adversity.

Yep, I'm bored.
I just don't get video games.

Grand theft auto made me go bowling with some chick. What's the point in that?
Do i get to fuck her later?

And i thought the Alien game would be good but it blew as well.
Are all kids high when they play these games?

It's kinda like the article Dr. Caul mentioned here: http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,4958.0.html The author says "You have to decide to be OK with whatever the film is doing at any moment. You have to decide to accept it as normal, and decide to care about what’s happening even though it just suddenly turned into a different kind of movie."

Replace "film" and "movie" with "video game."  GTA has an awesome storyline, and there are some parts that are really wacky (I don't want to include any spoilers) but if you just accept it as OK, then it's a lot of fun.  Red Dead Redemption, another title from Rockstar Games, has a lot of different "side stuff", such as playing gambling games - Texas hold 'em, among others - and it's a good break from the storyline.

I remember being blown away when pong came out, and my friends and I dropped more than a few quarters there.  I was out of the military and back in school, so we spent some time on various PDP-8 and PDP-11 systems trying to recreate a 'better' pong.

After our oldest was born, we spent a lot of time at the local video arcade, playing Ms Pacman, Galaga, the one with the knight on a bird and others.  We kept the infant in a front pack carrier, so we would trade off who played while holding the baby.

However, we never had a home system until we bought an XBOX for my son when they first came out.  Found out he could beat me, even when he was 9.

I got this TV a few weeks ago.  Panasonic TC-P65VT50 (http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-tc-p65vt50/4505-6482_7-35118305.html).  Best Buy had an awesome deal on them, about 25% off, and even though I've been a Sony fanboy the last few years, I had to pick up this one.  I was gonna let y'all know about it when the deal was still going on at Best Buy, but I wanted to see some stuff filmed in 3D on it first.

Watching movies on this is awesome.  The colors, even without a professional calibration, are great.  It's THX certified, so the colors, details, and overall picture, are excellent.  The best "preset" mode IMO is "THX Bright Room".

It's supposed to be one of the best for 3D.  I've watched a 3D Blu-Ray on it, and it's pretty darn good.  I'll probably get a subscription to a 3D Blu-Ray rental place to check out a few more.

The LCD vs. plasma debate is a contentious topic, so I won't try to prove my case on why I think one is better than the other.  Overall I'm really happy with this TV, and the Best Buy 4 year warranty that I got gives a little peace of mind that if I do get "burn-in" (a common thing with plasma TVs) or something else, it will be easily fixed or replaced.

This picture really doesn't do it justice, for various reasons, but here's an idea of how it looks.  I sit about 8 or 9 feet away from it, so it's kinda like sitting in the front row at a movie theater.

My surround sound setup consists of a pair of Sony MDR-DS6000 headphones (http://store.sony.com/p/wireless-headphones/en/p/MDRDS6000).  8)  Great sound from them, but they do have some imperfections, so I probably wouldn't recommend them.  The new MDR-DS6500 (http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666290086) that replaced them are much better, and the Japanese version of the 6000, the MDR-RF7100 (http://www.shoppinginjapan.net/mdr-rf7100) look cool, but there aren't many reviews for them.

Panasonic T.V's are the best, I have 3 of them all plasmas. You don't need to worry over the Screen burn, they sorted that years back.  We have the 3-D telly (reactive type)in the front room, fantastic picture and quality. The sound is not as good as older sets, as they keep using small speakers. However when you buy a Telly shortly, you won't have speakers with it! You will have to buy a sound Bar, or use a Surround system..... I suppose they call this "progress"... :-\    Mind if you use Headphones most off the time I guess this won't bother you.

Nice set Neo, enjoy it..

I bought my 1st Panny plasma like 6 months ago and I have had no complaints at all. I was LCD only for a really long time, but I got a deal so I figured I'd give it a shot. I don't know if I'll go back to LCD now. Plasmas are cheaper and just as good if not better than compatible LCD units.

Yeah, I had an LED for about a year, and there are a few things that are arguably better about LED than plasma, but I'm really glad I got a plasma.  All things considered, including the price (a lot less than some of the LEDs I was looking at), it's almost the perfect TV, and I'm stoked to watch even more shows and movies.  8)

Sharp LCD, never gone plasma, never will.

Don't ever trust sales outlets, they will and they can adjust picture qualiity and contrast in the shop to make one screen look better than the next...Why? Gotta move old stock out the door......... ;)
Title: Re: What do you have ?!?
Post by: Neo on January 23, 2013, 03:06:34 AM
It's a heated rivalry between the 2 technologies and among the companies of each technology.  Sony and Sharp have some of the best LEDs.  It's all about personal preference, as none are perfect for everyone.  The Sony and Sharp guys pick each other's stuff apart, and the same for the LED and plasma guys, and the competition breeds excellence.

My TV was manufactured in November 2012, so I doubt they had to sell them as old stock that no one was buying.  When a new model is released and they have to move their stock, it's the perfect time to get a great deal from a good company.

It is what your preference is LED/LCD can get burn your eyes out bright and can be set up to make the colors pop(which are not natural), but pleases the eye to many, but the blacks still are not as good as plasma. Plasma is still better at shadow details. OLED sounds promising to fix this but pricing is outrageous at this point.

I'd punch someone in the face for a 3d tv, saying that, I really don't care about these arguments, I like watching movies, and after the initial obsession when DVD came about, I am getting less and less fussy.
All things considered in a perfect world I'd be fussy about it, but I use what I can and still enjoy movies.
At the moment I have a borrowed samsung, don't know if is plasma or LCD, looks good to me. But when I was in Sydney I was on a CRT and didn't bother me all that much.

Ari, if you have never seen one of these reactive 3-D Telly's working you are in for a treat. I was dead against them, and refused to have one, until Yvonne and I were shopping for a Telly for one of the kids, we tried one and was amazed. So went home with it that day.

I had seen Creature from the Black Lagoon at the Cinema, and it was great, and also had a 20min 8mm film in 3-D, but the Blu-disc from Universal's box set is outstanding. The first thing was at the pictures, it's almost in colour, but the Blu-ray is pure Black and White. I jest not that when they find the Skeletal Creature hand sticking out of the rock, that hand is right in the room with you.

We now buy a few 3-D Blu disc's, they are great for a change, but I would hope it's not a permanent thing, as trying to eat your curry with those glasses on, in the dark is not recommended...   :P

Yeah.

Re tv, I went into a store and had a go, ASTRO BOY, looked great to me.

Best 3d I ever saw was about 15 years ago in an art gallery. This artist had built his own set up. The goggles each had a shutter, it plugged into some device, and the movie played, each frame was for each eye, and the shutter closed one eye at a time, in synch, brain outs together.
The animation was an embryo that floated out of the screen to inches from your eyes, and started turning and evolving until it was a man, and floated back into the screen.
Even modern movies at IMAX etc wasn't as close or "there" as this. It just sat there in front f you, everyone was trying to grab it. He said it cost him $30,000 to build the device.

Ps yeah vegan curry is ok, I don't buy many curries as they like to use ghee or cream etc often, but I make them.

A few years back, I was walking by on the street outside Galeries Lafayette store in Paris past a window display showing a tv close to the window. The tv was playing showing a 3d effect spewing out expanding stars cascading what looked like out the window onto the footpath. No glasses needed. I was suitably impressed.

Ok, out of the box better contrast, blacks for sure are better, more picture "depth", still need new processor to try a 3d run. Switched mounts, and wow what a difference for ease of adjustment.

Still need to do some adjustments for sure, but very, very nice right out of the box. That should be expected though when doubling the price of the old one. I wish there was a DLP setup around me or a JVC D-ILA to check out, just to see how they compare to LCD projection.

What are the (what looks like) tan-colored fabric covered panels on either wall? Window coverings? Or to help with acoustics?

Title: Re: What do you have ?!?

Hi Jeff -

Those are acoustic panels, called absorption panels. The left side covers one window and the second window is covered by the screen. Their purpose, without sounding too much like a geek, is strictly for audio. They absorb mid and hi frequency waves at whats called reflection points. Above the couch I have some diffusion and they serve to scatter those frequencies over the listening position dispersing the sound and making the room feel much larger.

So sorry to hear that Jay!   :(

Which projector do you have?  The last time I got a low bulb warning I was surprised to find some 3rd party companies finally making replacement bulbs.  You could also just get a new bulb instead of replacing the whole several-hundred-dollar lamp housing+bulb.  Might be worth a look.  In the end, though I just bought a new projector and retired mine to my in-laws house.  We only use it a couple times a year there so the dim bulb isn't too big of a deal.

Flash forward 6+ years and my current projector is now flashing a low bulb warning every time I turn it on.  Might be time to junk the one at my in-laws, retire mine to their house, and then get a new one for me :)

I have an Epson 8100 which is the one just before the current 8350.  Yeah, I've been looking at bulbs and reviews on same.  The bare bulbs can be had as cheap as $60, but they appear to be cheap Chinese bulbs that have reported short lifetimes of just a couple hundred hours.  A number of places have reported that the Epson bulb is made by OSRAM, and you can find places that sell the bulb in a "compatible" housing for $130-150.  The reviews for these on Amazon are quite mixed, so I am a bit wary of quality control.

Basically, I am looking to get a genuine Epson replacement from a reputable source  like projector people or visual apex.  Will probably cost me $250ish, but I figure I will likely go another 4 years, at which time I will probably replace the projector.  Oh yeah, will also buy a new filter at the same time.

Nice B&Ws Racer!  Which JVC projector do you have?

Thanks. Its an HD250. Great projector. I'm really happy with it.

On a side note, if you are the same Harry Caul on emovieposter, then you have great taste - If so, you beat me out on the "Monsieur Verdoux" last week. I'm sure it will be far from the last time I get outbid by someone on here!

I've been a bit bummed lately.  The bulb blew on the projector about a month ago.  With winter coming on, I need to find a spare $300 to replace it.  No posters for me!
Still, can't complain.  I got 4 full years out of that bulb.

Sorry to hear it. I hope you can find a replacement bulb pretty easily.

You just reminded me to make sure I get a replacement as well for safekeeping. I'm nearing 1000 hours on my bulb but its still going strong and I have not had to put it on High yet.

Thanks, Harry.  You gave me the kick I needed, and I went and ordered the replacement bulb from projectorpeople for $245.  They didn't stock the filter, so I will now order that from Amazon.

Back in business.

I'm up for a new projector soon and I've been eyeing the switch from LCD to DILA/SXRD.  I've heard nothing but great things about the JVC.  Although I'm still tempted by the Panasonic LCDs with motorized zoom and lenshift.  I'm also dying for a 2.35 scope screen :)

Nice set up Racer, I put up posters to absorb sound in my Film Room... ;)  I did have pics of my set-up on here, but they were lost when I had Bucket problems, I should re-post them somewhere...

Glad you got your bulb Jay, I'd be lost without my projector, when I get to the bulb going, I'm upgrading to 4K. Which may not be long as I've 1800+ hours on it so far...   :-\

We didn't have a TV until I was 6 years old and then it was B/W.
Actually when I was younger still we didn't have electricity.

I do not own a TV at the moment, sad, for a while I had 6 of them,

Nor did I Ari.  Actually we did but we weren't allowed to watch it..only TV allowed on saturday mid afternoon films. Always a BW John Ford/ Wayne followed by the Tarzan cartoon in glorious colour.

Yeah, looking back on it, I didn't realize how lucky I was.

I had a lot of channels, including the movie channels, via a cable box.  I saw a lot of good films, but my favorite stuff to watch, for several years, I would wake up an hour or two early before leaving for school during the week, and on Saturdays, to watch Looney Tune reruns - Chilly Willy the Penguin, Woody the Woodpecker, Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner, Yosemite Sam, etc.  Those were the real good ole days.  8)

For sure, Brandon. To this day, the WB Looney Tunes are some of the best cartoons STILL around.

And Mel Blanc was a vocal genius.  thumbsup.gif

Just show how things have changed, we had 3 TV channels as kids, and had to go to the Saturday morning matinee to see those kind of Cartoons...  I still have a good selection on disc now-a-days, though I mostly run Tom and Jerry, the Fred Quimby ones of course..

So true, Paul. The original 1940's Tom & Jerry 'toons were SO well animated, too, under Quimby's direction. Top notch. And Tom actually looked like a fierce feline back then, too!

But like so many others, boy, did they go down hill, animation-wise, by the 1960's. Cheaply produced and drawn... done on shoe tring budgets.  :-\

Tom and jerry were always a bit too violent for my taste, even as a kid.  However, I could never get enough of Chuck Jones and Tex Avery.

We had two channels until I was 18 an moved to the city then I had 5.
The good thing about 2 channels was one was commercial and basically crap. The other ABC which is the public owned station here and played mainly British television (or local) the other beings mainly American.
So I grew up on British kids shows and thy really were the best.
I loved the sci fi stuff and spooky stuff. SKY used to freak me out. Plus blakes 7 and dr who of course.
Sit coms like Robyn's nest. The good life. George and Mildred. Only fools and horses. All the good shit. And thankfully they also screened good American stuff like HILL STREET BLUES.
You can tell a
Country kid from a city kid by how well they know old British tv.
Famous five FUCK YEAH!

Oh and metal mickey!

I received the bulb and did the replacement.  I looked when I reset the lamp hours.  The original bulb gave me 4148 hours of service.  That's why I spent the extra and bought the factory replacement.  Hopefully I get another 4000 hours.

I bet you are wow'd again by the brightness!  The fall off in intensity of the bulb is very subtle such that you probably don't notice it over the last several years.

Actually I did.  I go through calibration discs about once every three months.  I had bumped brightness up several times.  I also start with the bulb in the lower power eco mode and I went to full brightness about 18 months ago.

Probably should have replaced it then, but I am cheap in a lot of ways.

What Projector do you have Schan?

I've been perusing the 4k ones on offer at the moment, but are still thinking it maybe too soon to up grade, as my full HD one gives a great picture..
Title: Re: What do you have ?!?
Post by: kovacs01 on November 15, 2014, 08:39:52 PM
No 4k for me Paul.  I have an LG CF181D.  The simple fact is that there is just not enough content for it yet to justify replacing what I have.  If there is by the time I wear out my other bulb on that machine, then I might consider it.  One thing I have not even checked into is the proper seating distance for 4k.  I plan on putting my first row at 168 inched for a 140" (1.2x the diagonal size).  Any closer than that and it becomes too overwhelming in terms of field of view to even watch.  With 4k, you want to take advantage of the additional detail it offers, but getting much closer to a screen that size and your scan area is just too large.....

I'm happy myself with mine, but Yvonne keeps on saying we can't watch 3D films in the film room, only on the T.V. in the living room which is 50" so a bit small for the full effect. If I'm going to up grade at some point may as well go the whole hog... ;)

That said, money is a bit tight at the moment as the girls have both just bought houses, so we're helping them out with stuff for those, however when looking for TV's for them I tend to wander on to Projectors....  eyeroll

Do take some pics when your up and running Schan.

I will Paul.  I wouldn't go for a 3D setup if I were you Paul.  It is on its way out now, to be revived in another 25 years, I am sure.  Every time it resurges, the industry claims, "this time it is different."  Well, as with every other time before, they were wrong this time.

Its a step up from the 120" I left when I moved.  I will start a thread once I have some pics of it complete.  Or mostly complete, anyway.  I am lazy and it is cold, so it might take me a while to actually build the platform.

Me too!  After buying my second projector I kind of petered out over there.  I popped back in for a few weeks to pick out my third PJ, and I've been poking around recently again looking for my 4th.  I was surprised though as lot of manufacturers aren't refreshing their line as often these days... every 2-3 years instead of annually.  I guess I don't blame them, the market probably isn't all that big and your turn over is likely the same as the bulb life (3-4 years on the early side).

For my next setup I was thinking of going bigger as well, but I don't really have room based on my seating distance.  Instead I'm thinking of getting a projector with zoom, lens shift and focus memory so I can switch to a scope screen.  I want to keep the same height so my 16:9 and 4:3 viewing won't change -- scope stuff will just get REALLY WIDE  :o

While I still write for a major online AV journal, I kinda burned out a few years ago when I finally acquired what I consider the pinnacle of audio gear and source components.  I desperately need a larger screen but am limited but the actual floor space available more than anything else.

Floor space was also an issue with me, there's never enough. I wish I had one of those houses one sees in the US, they are huge, mind there is a lot of space over there. Still you have to make the best of it, and I'm very happy with how mine turned out....That said, I'm going to change two of the seats for two fancy recliner types just for me and Yvonne.. ;)

Swapping out the front soundstage.  Goldenear Triton 2+ and XL center.  As the hearing degrades, hoping these bring more dialog clarity and wanted the powered subs in the towers.  Not much time to get things setup right now though, hopefully in the next week or so.
