I'm in love Chris... with your daybiil.... thumbsup.gif
Somehow, even that sounds off....lol
Are those tinted photos? Or drawn images?
-
Nice Christopher!
As for me I picked up a very rare and risque B1 for NSNA:
(http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/u536/HereComesMongo1968/s-l1600_zps5nulmopy.jpg) (http://s1320.photobucket.com/user/HereComesMongo1968/media/s-l1600_zps5nulmopy.jpg.html)
I had this in Round 1- never expected to find another.
-
Eric: I was just going to reply to your message in the May thread about the size of the Japanese Nashville poster (thread is closed). So just to let you know here. It's a "B2" size (20 1/4" x 28 5/8" ).

Good stuff... thanks for the info, PA.
I just sent you a PM, too.

Nothing amazing, but a few things I got recently... Quantity over quality, as they say :) The Shining is a re-buy because I gave mine away to my kids' nanny, who happened to be a bog fan of the movie, and one's gotta encourage a 25 year old appreciation for quality.

T
T, what is a "bog fan?" It sounds creepy, but in a very cool, LA sort of way. dontknow.gif ;D
-
Well, if the Russians are to be believed our glorious dear President is quite a bog fan.
-
Mel, I like your posters, though I can see your collection going the way it did before... heaps of posters. Maybe save for really great ones which means having less?
Btw that follow me poster, maybe I am OCD but I wish she was walking into the sunset, to follow, rather than walking to the camera
Big Heat poster is fun due to the missing arm.
Cool and Crazy would be my pick of the bunch thumbsup.gif
-
And a great international mix, too, T.
I see you even grabbed a couple more Belgians.
-
eatbrie: Love the Japanese Thomas Crown Affair posters. Nice.
-
And I agree with PA, on those Thomas Crown Affair posters, too, T.
Very nice. Faye Dunaway in her prime! thumbsup.gif bed1

My first pick-up...

Simply stellar....

Appreciate it, Jeff and Mel! thumbsup.gif

I left my contact details with him, if he was to obtain another one he would let me know. If i find one ill send you a PM. Its a great poster and i am sure you will obtain one shortly Chris

Thanks Mel i actually use your website alot - mine is double sided, 26 3/4 by 39 3/4 and has the bright colour's - no fuzzy text and the paper feels right. In my search for this poster i did come across a number of fakes and your website was of great help.
I also used it for the dark knight joker poster along with a few others i have purchased.
Thankyou :D

Evidently we're of the same mindset. Picked up this very cool/rare int. MP for High Fidelity, which of course I haven't seen:

Mel, I really like that High Fidelity i have put that straight onto my want list. That's a great find, enjoy the poster!!!!
-
Thanks guys. thumbsup.gif
Neo: I like how the BRs contrast each other, but find the Gosling style much more visually striking. And you're right, that Ilsa is a stunner.
50s: I'd been looking for a while myself and was excited to find this one in pristine condition, quintessential 80's for sure!
-
Nice pickup, there, Damo... Im especially digging the Nurse 3D poster!

LOVE that fargo tob!!! really visceral poster!
well as a follow on from my last lot i posted, this was a REAL surprise for me to win!
and its in really nice shape too, [not the best pic in the word but meh so what haha]
and ULTRA CHEAP! cheaper than the last french godzilla i got :) well chuffed!
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/DSC_0656_zps0owkjkzq.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/DSC_0656_zps0owkjkzq.jpg.html)
also got this after waiting for quite a while. curiously this dosnt show up all that much on ebay, and when it did it was more than i wanted to pay. saying that a few have turned up of late.
but there was a LOT more of the teasers than the main for this movie. i think the only other place i saw this art used was on a wierd sized US poster? i could be wrong though.
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/DSC_0667_zpsxgggncd0.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/DSC_0667_zpsxgggncd0.jpg.html)
this is also quite a curious poster!
i know its in rough shape, but i havent seen this particular design before. although i have seen 2 other designs for the same movie. which i'm no expert on french posters but using an alternative design isnt all that common but having 3 seems very unusual? again im no expert but i have scanned over a lot of french posters in the years.
anyone know why 3 different posters would have been used on it?
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/DSC_0673_zpsca00v62z.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/DSC_0673_zpsca00v62z.jpg.html)

Some good stuff so far this month.
-
Im liking this one, Sean.. and a Robert Siodmak movie, to boot. thumbsup.gif
Is the artist's name Hurel?
The art is very edgy.

the artist name is Hurel Clement. i have a few of his posters, not as many as i would like. i like the few posters that i have very much. but to be honest i dont have that many french posters i dont think. although i guess that depends how you judge "many"? haha
-
anyone know why 3 different posters would have been used on it?
May be a re-release given the accolades? What else is different compared to the other ones?
Either way - a real nice poster for sure.
-
Found this one in a store cupboard at work - along with rubbish posters, but I bagged this one.
Ignore the camera strap in the front - didn't see it.
-
Great looking montage on that one, PA!
Is this the UK quad?

Yes it is, sorry about image. I photos it and then stashed the poster away , then only after saw the strap in front of the lens. Here's one without the blurry strap.

Either way - a real nice poster for sure.
from what i can tell? i have only seen quite small images of the other 2 posters. but the posters seem to have all the same info on them? accolades distritbutors etc. although i cant see the small print on the other 2. as i say im no expert on french posters at all. but it does seem odd. the other 2 that i have seen are large posters and mine is a medium. aside from that is anyones guess?
-
Maybe the movie was put into wide release after screenings at various film festivals (like is often still done - Cannes etc), and got praise and clap clap from those early screenings. So then adding those accolades and comments to the theatrical release poster helps to promote the movie as one definitely worth checking out.
-
Landed the Blonde Sinner 1S from EMP today. Had it in Round 1, a must-recover for Round 2. This is heading for lbacking, the fold lines cross the face, severely detracting from its appearance IMO:
(http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/u536/HereComesMongo1968/Blonde_zpsrxcqky7d.jpeg) (http://s1320.photobucket.com/user/HereComesMongo1968/media/Blonde_zpsrxcqky7d.jpeg.html)
I guess Dors was the UK's Marilyn Monroe:
(http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/u536/HereComesMongo1968/Annex%20-%20Dors%20Diana_NRFPT_02_zpsg1po0coj.jpg) (http://s1320.photobucket.com/user/HereComesMongo1968/media/Annex%20-%20Dors%20Diana_NRFPT_02_zpsg1po0coj.jpg.html)
-
You should maybe try the Weight & Wait Method™ first, too, before sending it off. Just lay it out, and let those fold lines relax and flatten out under some evenly distributed weight.
To me, this looks in much too good condition to be linen backing it (but again, it's all about personal preference and what looks best to a new owner, so I totally get that, too).
-
I'm with Jeff on this one, I really don't think this poster requires linen-backing. Personally, I don't mind the folds one bit, they're part of the history of the poster. But of course, this is up to you Mel if you really can't live with those folds.
-

I agree
-
Y'all are off the mark on this particular poster. Generally, I'm for keeping even vintage posters "raw" unless there is a compelling reason(s) to lback/repair it. In this poster the "hard" fold lines cannot be pressed out and severely mar its appearance, especially on Dors' face:
My copy as is:
(http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/u536/HereComesMongo1968/Blonde%20copy_zpsharcsc5d.jpeg) (http://s1320.photobucket.com/user/HereComesMongo1968/media/Blonde%20copy_zpsharcsc5d.jpeg.html)
An LB copy:
(http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/u536/HereComesMongo1968/lf_zps4lyoiq5m.jpeg) (http://s1320.photobucket.com/user/HereComesMongo1968/media/lf_zps4lyoiq5m.jpeg.html)
The "history" argument is pretty weak. It was cheaper to distribute them folded and nobody had a clue that they would survive more than a few weeks and be in high demand decades later for their superior artwork.
-
History argument is pretty strong. Folded posters are what people saw in the cabinets. We can relive that history, seeing what they saw. But I'd back it if it was mine.
-
I'd been looking for the half sheets on this title for a long time. I finally picked this one up at Cinevent
it's beat up, but that's life!

I've had the reissue quad for years, now I have this one too.. heh heh

this has actually been in the vault for a long time. finally taking a pic

I got around to shooting a good pic of the rare Nosferatu poster printed for the Telluride Film Festival in 2001. I was really shocked when I ran into this poster at Cinevent.

Nice pickups, gents. And congrats, Rich, on snagging one you had been after for a while. thumbsup.gif

Thanks, Tob. I'll keep an eye out. It looks like the dealer I got it from is all sold out now.
A24 has been knocking it out of the park for sure.
-
thanks fellas. surprisingly, the $20 gambling poster is almost my favorite pickup (c'mon, you really don't think I'd put anything above the Dahlia, do ya???)
they aren't all exactly 'new acquisitions' but I never had pics of them before. I need to get the bordered Endless Summer framed & up..
-
Rich, what makes this one so rare? Was it that not many were printed? (low print run?)
Do these pop up once in a while for sale? Any idea how many might have been printed, in total? Any idea?

it's a super-low quantity screen printed poster that was printed for Telluride and was also used in a very small number of theatres in some cities
I had known about the poster, but I had never seen one and probably only a certain number of people knew about it
it's like American Pimp. It played in 5 theatres, so there has to be posters. An image for that however is available, though I have no idea if that image is actually a real poster, or a Rochester Special.

Thought you might like that Rich (even if a daybill...)
I have several pieces from that film. They are all so good. It's a case of a title where the designers really knew how to make each poster different & eye catching
I need a title card. I was offered one once, but it had been laminated, so I let someone else buy it and then I regretted it
-
Chris, what a gorgeous lot. Congratulations on the haul!
-
Great group of posters Chris! I might even like that In a Lonely Place daybill better than the one sheet ;)

Hey "Assgoblin" - the name of your Pbucket act. - I dig this one!
Ass Goblin:Urban Dictionary
noun; a small (or medium if you like)gremlin-like creature who lives in your ass and comes out every half moon to eat crackers, sometimes watching tv and hogging the remote.
"has anyone seen my ass goblin? he's been missing for an hour" at which point, upon retrieval, said goblin returns to his happy ass-home.

Superb bunch there sir...

Chris and I both hit the jackpot recently:
My #1 WTB for sure. Been wanting this uber-cool poster for years. Totally forgot about EMP's US 1S auction yesterday but fortunately checked my email and saw BH promoting it.
KILLERS 1sh R1956 art of Burt Lancaster & sexy Ava Gardner, from Ernest Hemingway story! Note that this is the rare case where many collectors might consider a reissue poster to have a better image than that of the original. On the 1946 first release one-sheet, Lancaster and Gardner are compressed into the top left corner of the poster, with a lot of space for the title and credits, but on this re-release, their images dominate the poster, and it has a red background, whereas the first release poster had a white background.
Heading for l-backing for sure....

I accidentally deleted this post of mine from yesterday, when making a correction.
Had this arrive today.
The International US OS for Altered States (1980)
I have always really liked this image, and recalled seeing it on the Argentinean OS, but never knew it was also used for the international OS. Such a great image and this particular special effect, foam latex creation/face pictured on the poster was made by master makeup artist, the late Dick Smith. And I think the tag line on the poster is SO perfect, too.
The glossy paper and glare is what is causing the various white looking lines along some of the folds. The poster looks to have never been used.
I keep thinking how "extra" cool this OS would have looked, had the image been created art, rather than photo-based.

Jeff do you have a small dog? Left a present on your poster.
Well just kidding of course. Nice pick up!

Thanks, Jason.. and, yeah.. an invisible shih-tzu left that border 'gift.' GoOn.gif
Actually that's a small, Chinese bronze scroll paperweight. I used it to try and get the poster to lay more flat, as the glare and gloss, from the peaked folds was making these bright, white lines appear along the folds.
I might use the tried and true Weight & Wait Method™ on this one.

stop backing stuff that would look good in a frame by itself. Down the road, RAW posters are going to be vastly preferred just like raw rolled ROTJ posters will always be worth more than folded in the same condition. This poster is entirely acceptable, even with the small tape, which is easily removable with some rubber cement thinner and a small brush. Some of the stain will also lift and it wouldn't take 15 minutes. You're reducing your future value when you back raw posters in decent conditions
-
Both the left and right borders are missing too, having been trimmed off.
-
Exactly, Both sides are butchered. So I want that fixed. I think it would look good linenbacked and framed. ;D

Stellar, Mr. Quad Devotee.

Landed this 30x40. Nothing exceptional about it but it's still the very best movie about the first-year law-school experience, still seared into my memory 25 years later. And I went to a "B" law school (Tulane), I'm sure it's even more intense and mind-blowing at "A+" Harvard, where the movie takes place. And yes, ALL of the current S.Ct. members went to H or Y.

A few more to round out June.
If you haven't seen Room 237 and a re a fan of The Shining, or Kubrick in general, you should give it a watch. A few folks give their best argument for and underlying meaning of the film. Some are far fetched, but some are pretty believable. All of them present some pretty good idiosyncrasies throughout Kubrick's movie that can either be explained by his genius or by chance... you get to choose.

Me too. A must in any collection for sure.

A "must" only if one likes the movie and wants a poster from it.
I think all collections are unique and specific to the individual collector, and none "require" that any particular poster needs to be included to make it worthy or otherwise.
(My 2¢ anyhow. :) )

mostly crap other people dont want haha

I have a list of about 2,000 must-have posters. It's all in my head. Movies that I consider classics or classics in the making. I don't necessarily look for them, but I know what they are and I will consider my collection incomplete and a work in progress until I get them all, which means until I die or at least stop collecting. I already got a lot of them, probably half if not more, pieces like Vertigo, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Laura, to the much cheaper Godfather, Rocky, Apocalypse Now, to the Dark Knight Rises and La La Land. Some I will never get, like Casablanca. But it keeps me going, one piece at a time.
