I had the good fortune of acquiring some original movie poster paintings. All of the works are from 60's MGM movies. While the movies themselves might not be anything special, I will let the works speak for themselves. :-) Enjoy!

Very cool looking originals, there. Have you been collecting original pieces for a while? Were these bought thru an auction? Or direct purchases?
-
here are some unused designs
Domino Principal is by Tanenbaum. Don't know who did the Cross of Iron, but I think it's pretty good
the Sailor is by Guy Deel

These were all acquired recently, purchased directly. I believe I am also in possession of an unused Frank Frazetta piece. Some really great stuff in this collection.

post it.
I can tell you
I'm probably the only guy on the board who has sold numerous Frazetta drawings, comic strips and paintings
-
Is the Frazetta unsigned? Is that why you're unsure if it's by him or not? Would love to see that one, too. thumbsup.gif
-
Correct, unsigned and unfinished. I believe that is why it was not signed, but that is pure speculation. I would like to keep the image private for the time being, as I am considering selling it.
-
If you decide to sell it, how will you describe it? As a possible Frazetta, since it's unknown? Would be better to confirm it.. or maybe that's your pre-sell plan?

Adrian, what are the sizes of the artworks you posted above?

Fairly large. The McCarthy pieces are all around 40" x 28". The Terpning is probably 30" x 24". The unpictured Frazetta & the Lesser piece are 30" x 20".

Zowie! How COOL to have these originals...especially those that never became posters. AWESOME! thumbsup.gif

Lovely image of the sublime Julie Christie in the FftMC.

Thanks for that info, Adrian. All really nice sizes, some almost as big as a US one sheet.

Cross of Iron is SO good. What an awesome painting. I have something similar to your Sailor piece in an early mock up for More than A Miracle. Final posters are amazing, but it's great to a see a step in the process.

Some really cool stuff, all, thanks for sharing!
Thomas Nixdorf (German collector specializing in 007 stuff) recently posted the image of the Sophia Loren painting on his FB page (thought it looked familiar).
I'm expecting a few more paintings myself (should reach me about this time next week) One of these will be Vic Fair's prototype painting for the British quad of the 1980s movie, FORT APACH, THE BRONX. For whatever reason, Brian Bysouth was tasked with painting the finished version, which is basically a tightened-up version of Fair's original design. I'll post Fair's art next week when I get it in. In the meantime here's a photo of Brian Bysouth working on the final painting . . .

Sounds great! I've only ever owned three Frazettas, two of which were Johnny Comet strips (that have since moved on).
My one remaining piece is an illustration used for the press-book release of THE NIGHT THEY RAIDED MINSKY'S (1968).

New in today . . . Tom Chantrell's original movie poster painting for SHALAKO.
SHALAKO was a British 1968 Western movie directed by Edward Dmytryk, starring Sean Connery and Brigitte Bardot. It was filmed in Almerķa, Spain.

Very nice piece. Two bonafide Hollywood stars and the condition appears to be excellent.
