That's one great looking Belgian Third Man you got there, Mike.

Awesome pickup!

And kudos again, on that 400 Blows. It's a beauty.

CHRIS, as I said earlier---stunning posts. LOVE these and the ones you posted on the Favorite Purchases of 2016 thread. Ooooo--awesome. In this batch though,  I dig the NAVY SPY the best. WoW!

CercleRouge, I agree with Jeff. THIRD MAN has some great color and lettering. 400 BLOWS is just gorgeous. Bravo!

Ah, yeah, I remember Les 400 Coups.  I kinda wanted to buy it but didn't because of condition.  Having said that, I have to say that your guy did an amazing job.  I'm not bid on restoration, but this one looks really nice.  It kinds of reminds me of Schindler's List, except without the kiss and with a little girl instead of Jean-Pierre Leaud.

I know it's only the 2nd day of the year (according to the APF clock), but already it's BONUS POST time on my thread. The reason, it's January 2nd...aka FAKE JAN DAY! Huh? Look at my thread for more info (and to see my new posters)---or not. Here's my usual sample though:

What a way to ring in the new year :)

As far I could tell from my research, this poster has only sold a handful of times and it has never been attributed to a specific artist.  However, if you press your nose in the shadows on the right side you can clearly make out NANO -- aka Silvano "Nano" Campeggi -- the same artist who did the R62 Italian 4-foglio for Casablanca.

MEH! quite a melodrama set in a hospital from what i remember? not worth a watch i would say.
ALTHOUGH death bed 1977 is an incredible movie, with an interesting tale of how it got stolen by a UK video distributor and then lost! its been on dvd for quite some time now so not all that lost haha :)

SEAN, I was a little confused by your description...but I see there are two DEATHBED movies.

"Mine" is this one:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090148/combined (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090148/combined)

The other is:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385639/combined (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385639/combined)

Although for some reason imdb uses the same poster on BOTH. Ha!

After a handful of emails to Photobucket, they finally fixed my problem and I can upload again.
So, without further ado, here's some new paper from December.
And I do mean NEW.

Got this from APF's own Chris9000.  Thanks for the super packaging and fast shipping, Chris!

Force Awakens plays better upon repeated viewing. All the Star Wars films have been slow to develop, I think the anticipation just had folks expecting more. I liked it more the second time around when I already knew what was going to happen and just let it flow.

Everyone just wants that Ray Park saber duel level of action now all the time.

Interesting.
I've seen it 4x, first being in the theater.
Subsequent viewings drove it to the bottom of the list for me.
Only thing I finally really liked about TFA was seeing Chewbacca again.

Everything I hear about  Rogue One is good though, so I'm holding hope.

Had this come in right after the New Year. A Danish OS (and my first poster from Denmark) for the 1958 flick, The Inn of the Sixth Happiness with Ingrid Bergman, Curd Jürgens and Robert Donat. I really like the image of Bergman and many of the colors really pop.

Poster art by Stilling (signed in the lower left corner)

Another arrival today.

A rolled UK quad for An American Werewolf in Paris (1997).

Tho I havent seen it, I have a friend who worked on it (post production) and she said it was pretty bad. Maybe this is another example of where cool poster art makes up for what was shown on the screen.

(A piece of plexi is laying on the poster to hold it down; that's what the thin white lines are at the top and bottom of the poster).

Yessir..that's the plan. I need a frame first, tho.  girly2.gif

It measures about 24x33, so just a little bigger on the length, than the standard European A1 size of 23x33.

Another recent arrival. A rolled, US OS for the The Outing (1987). This another flick that I've never seen, and not even familiar with, but the artwork by Drew Struzan totally caught my eye, especially this style with the creature hovering over the group of kids, and arms wrapping around them. I'm really digging the face of that critter of horror. And Struzan's use of light and shadow on the kids' faces is done so well, too. It looks as though they are being illuminated with a flashlight or something similar. And brilliantly done with the artist's hand. No photo-imagery.

There is another very similar style, also by Struzan, with the same group of teens, but no monster -- just sky overlaid with text.

The film opened in the UK initially, with the title, The Lamp, but was changed when it opened in the US. Reading the brief synopsis on wikipedia, this flick is another that sounds like a dud, but the poster is very cool, imho.

(Again, the piece of overlaid plexi that's missing a corner created that odd line in the upper left corner of the poster).

Here is a new art print I picked up for, Nocturnal Animals. It's not my usual taste, but fell in love with it the first time I saw it and knew I had to pick one up. The juxtaposition of the imagery is subtle and striking at the same time.

The print was commissioned by Focus Features for Tom Ford's film. The art is by 'Midnight Marauder,' a french born artist who has done graphic design for movie posters for Terrence Malick, Cohen Brothers, P.T. Anderson, and more. This 24x36" print is signed and numbered, #1/20.

Indeed, though he mimicked the Elliott Gould portrait from Vic Flair's one sheet. I still prefer the Avelli poster overall.

Chris: Good to see you back around buddy. Appreciate the compliment.

Neo: They are available commercially, but I had a hard time tracking them down so I did reach out to him via a social media platform and he pointed me in the right direction. Super nice fella.

Hey all, Happy New Year and Happy Poster Hunting in 2017  thumbsup.gif !
These are a few recent acquisitions,

Death Takes a Holiday - (undersized "B2"), I think this poster is from the 1935 release of the film in Japan.  The poster's text on the left is also advertising the showing of Bing Crosby / Carole Lombard's We're Not Dressing.

Hello SIMON! Nice pick ups. Where did you happen to get those posters? The "glut" of CARRIE material of late seems to come from my late friend's estate (see the post on my thread for more info). If they were his, I am glad they went to a good home and I apologize for probably bidding against you. I can't buy all of his stuff...so if they were his---I'm super glad they are YOURS now. Very NICE!!!  Congrats!

Shawn - Thanks, thought you might like them. These 3 came from eBay. Just read your post and I think it may very well be from your friends estate. Looking back at the eBay sold posters your Spanish Carrie poster looks to be the same one. I've said before but I really like these German A1s (not allowed to mention price ;D being a taboo subject), this title doesn't come up often and the last piece sold at EMP in 2012, the split photo has only sold once in 2008 and not seen the Sissy and John photo style one previously.

Don't worry about bidding against me, I'm fairly cheap and don't like to spend to much anyway so often lose out  :).

Ted - Thanks and I am glad you like them. My favourite is the first one followed very closely by the second image.

Thierry - Always happy to help out a fellow collector, you know, be that fountain of knowledge goto guy for someone. Just kidding, my knowledge and collection pales in comparison to yours notworthy.gif but glad it helped you complete Carrie.

Here's some trivia for you, Paul.  Terry Moore is the mother of one of my closest friends, Grant Cramer, who rose to "fame" as the lead in Killer Klowns and most recently produced Lone Survivor with Wahlberg.  I met Terry a few times and had a little bit of a Swanson moment upon entering her apartment in Santa Monica.  She gave me a bunch of signed photos of her and Dean, her and Monroe... etc.  I don't collect autographs so I probably tossed them.  Or maybe not, I don't know.  Your poster reminded me of all this so I thought I'd share.

These are great, Devin. Especially the B2 for Death Takes A Holiday. If that is from first release in Japan, that is a real rarity. I checked on imdb and no release year is given for Japan. How did you learn it was released there in 1935? A secret source?  ;)  You also mentioned this poster is a slightly undersized B2. Can I ask what the dimensions are?

I also have the B2 for Scanners and the colors and imagery just pop! Congrats on all 3 wins/purchases there.   sm1

Thanks Jeff!  The Death Takes a Holiday is 62x44cm (A regular B2 is 72x51cm), it's also been paper-backed.  Most information in Japanese lists the production year of the movie as 1934 (about 4 sites), but one site gives the Japanese release date of the movie as March 1935.  So I'm leaning to that one...

Yeah, you stop caring after a while.  When you live in LA and work at studios for many years, you eventually develop relationships with a few key people.  I have some good friends in this industry, and that's all I have to say about that ;)

A few more additions this month...Most of these were nostalgic buys for me. Some from the 'Up All Night' and 'Joe Bob Briggs' type shows that I fed off of as a kid and a few others to round off January.

Def-Con 4: I remember this VHS cover vividly at the mom & pop video store we got our rentals from as a kid. The movie is pretty bad, but this art is iconic for me.

Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-a-Rama: A staple on the late night cable b-movie/drive-in schlock shows that I loved.

Children of the Corn: Doesn't need an intro....

Ghoulies: Another late night Corman-like classic.

River's Edge: A cult classic with an equally memorable poster that's grittier than most of the films of the same age... Dennis Hopper with a young Keanu Reeves, Crispin Glover, and Ione Sky.

Rivers edge is wonderful! I have an oversize glossy  reproduction that was signed by Tim Hunter and Crispin glover when they did an event in a London a few years ago and the event organisers had the posters made up to go on backing boards whilst the talent spoke. So I was able to snag one after the event but they'd taken off the backing and rolled them up.

I actually snagged both of the signed Rivers Edge reproduction posters that Tim and Crispin signed so if anyone else is interested in one, message me!

Nice one here, Paul. A simple but truly traditional creepy vibe to it.  >:D

Does have a look to it Jeff, I need to try it with a Black-light, looks like it will glow...   :D

Great stuff, as always, Paul. I especially like the KONG one sheet (I have one, too), LA-LA LAND and the BYE-BYE MAN (although I didn't like the movie, the poster is rather creepy). Bravo--as always.

If it is "glow-able," it will look even better. Would you be able to snap a pic of this poster under a black light, Paul?

Well finally managed to get a couple sets of these Minions wildings.
Love the art they used. Especially Pollock, Warhol, and Van Gogh.

Jason, is part of each poster design the different frames they are in?

CHRIS, I somehow did not see your posting until CHARLIE referred to it. Nice stuff. It could almost be part of my collection. So glad we have similar tastes.

JASON, so glad you are still in the poster game. (Nice additions---very cool, by the way.) For a while i thought you might be bowing out.

The poster itself includes the frame and the date below it. It is hard to see but there is a white border all around the frame and below.

I love those Minions posters. Are they the same size as Thierry's set (bus shelter size) Jason or are they one sheet size?

Happy (almost) February!  There's about to be a new post on my thread (once APF midnight strikes) of odds and ends. I thought I'd post the usual sample now at the END of January instead of hogging the first spot at the beginning of February. I'm sure someone else will have something more interesting to share and would like to start the February thread. Anyway--here are the lesser (in my opinion) posters from my Feb. 1st post.

HOW TO SUCCEED WITH GIRLS:

What's interesting with the image of Margaret Hamilton used on this poster is that this was how she appeared in the footage that first (and then fired) director Richard Thorpe shot. When the re-shoot began, Hamilton's look was redone, with added nose and chin latex appliances and her hair pulled up, all to give her that more sinister, "witchy" look.

And a Nice artistic rendition on this poster.  thumbsup.gif
