Title: October 2016
Post by: DekeThornton on October 02, 2016, 12:44:17 AM
This WWII propaganda piece was produced by the USA for use in Latin America:

Here is a propaganda poster celebrating the anniversary of the founding of the CTM (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederation_of_Mexican_Workers), a confederation of labor unions that was once a much more powerful force in Mexican society.

Tortillas, Tamales, Gorditas, Sopes, Elote, and hundreds of other corn-based dishes...You wouldn't think one would need to propagandize for corn in Mexico?  You'd be wrong:

"Improved corn seeds strengthen your future".  Good thing we eat loads of those corn-based dishes at my house!

The Spanish wikipedia page for the Yucatán governor Fernando López Cárdenas (https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_L%C3%B3pez_C%C3%A1rdenas) has some of the historical context for this poster:

The British Museum's listing (http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/collection_online/collection_object_details.aspx?objectId=3127756&partId=1) has some additional information about it too.

Finally, this is more of an art print than a poster, but it is definitely propaganda, and I love the image:

Last month in the Advertising "Latest Acquisitions" section I posted a Puerto Rican poster advertising an exhibit of Mexican propaganda prints and posters.

Well, this month, I found an awesome companion piece!  Another Puerto Rican poster advertising an exhibit of art by the great Mexican printmaker José Guadalupe Posada (1852-1913).
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Guadalupe_Posada) Much of Posada's work has a political/satirical angle to it.

And I'll go ahead an repost the other Puerto Rican poster from last month:
