Title: July 2016
Post by: erik1925 on July 02, 2016, 01:41:33 AM
Nothing too major but I like the imagery and think the movie is fantastic.

Swedish insert/stolpe for Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (1962):

Nice Paul. I like the BvS banners because their not as cropped as the 1-sheets and I was never fond of the date across the red logos. That's quite a set with Star Trek too. Is this what cutting down on collecting banners looks like!?!

Got a couple of new additions to my Alice collection. Indian 1-sheet and these 3 which are adhesive vinyl banners. Wish it was a full set but I take what I can get. Anyone got any ideas where they might be used...?

What do you do with all these banners, Paul?  As nice as they are, I stopped collecting them a long time ago because they just take too much room.  You must live in one of those British cottages with a 5 car garage, horses and help.  Lots of help.

Cheers Paul. Didn't know there were 4, the search continues

Agree with T about collecting banners. I really like the Force Awakens ones but they would never see the light of day with me due to the size. Nice, though like the BvS ones.

I wish I did.  I store them in the rafters in the garage.  Technically I have stopped getting them, but the guy keeps saying "I have these, do you want them?"   I have turned down loads of them them....Honest... ;)

I've been out of the game for a few months, but the movie-poster mania never goes away.
I finally found me one of these at an affordable price.
The pic is from impawards.com and the poster is from ebay seller mr-bigscreen (whom I strongly recommend)
http://www.ebay.com/usr/mr-bigscreen?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754 (http://www.ebay.com/usr/mr-bigscreen?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754)
Poster as described, lightning fast shipping and superb packaging.  A four-star seller!

Oh, and I liked the movie a whole, whole lot.

Any idea who the artist is?

And I see the name Julian Soler listed as both actor and director. Is this the same person?

Me too!  I knew nothing about the movie when I saw the poster pop up on the bay, but it has that Mexican caricature style I love.

Regarding the artist, if you look closely in the lower left by the devil's tail there is an "AA".  According to a Spanish language book I have on Mexican posters ("Sueños de papel : el cartel cinematográfico mexicano de la época de oro"), this is confirmed to be Andrés Audiffred.

This is my first poster by him (not sure how many others he did).  Here is an article on a recent exhibition of his work:
http://www.excelsior.com.mx/expresiones/2015/01/18/1003251 (http://www.excelsior.com.mx/expresiones/2015/01/18/1003251)

And yes, Julián Soler directed, acted in, and even wrote many films during this era of Mexican cinema.

The caricature style, too, is what first caught my eye (and the light green-colored faces).

It's a great poster.

Nice pick up, Ted! I loved the film, I need that poster. Has been a good little period for horror with The Witch, It Follows and Babadook all coming out recently. I enjoyed all 3 a lot. Great to see you back posting too!

Thanks, Tob!
I agree with you on all 3 horror films.
The Babadook surprised me. Cool little film.

Here's a few Turkish horrors that I just got from Bruce @ Emovieposter.

The Omen (1976) is still one of my all-time favorites and this poster is from the 1980 first release in Turkey.

(http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu12/brude2000/turkish_omen_ES02601_C_zpsjjuagrm0.jpg) (http://s629.photobucket.com/user/brude2000/media/turkish_omen_ES02601_C_zpsjjuagrm0.jpg.html)

1971 Turkish release art for The Murder Clinic (aka Revenge of the Living Dead) a 1966 giallo about murders at a mental asylum.
Mental asylum? Hmmm... that sounds awfully harsh and insensitive.
What is the politically correct term for 'mental asylum?'
Democratic National Convention, of course.

Hi there. Happy mid-June. I have not even peeked at this thread yet this month. Yowzer!  There are some really nice things on here. Congrats gents, all around.  As you know I do not contribute much to this thread, as i usually post all of my new acqs on my own thread. But every now and again i'll throw up a sampling up of one of my bi-monthly (or so) postings. Here are three from the post I'll (hopefully) get up tomorrow (the 15th)... They're sort of the middle pickings of my posting--not the best (but NOT the worst either).

THE UNEARTHLY:

Retro-sci-fi/horror time with John Carradine, Tor johnson and the 50 Foot Woman herself, Alyson Hayes! Zowie!

DEATH HOUSE:

I think this must be a re-titling of something else. Or not. It was there. I bought it. Period.

THE EVIL DEAD (Thai):

Yippie!  I have the Thai EVIL DEAD 2...now the original! What crazy, gonzo artwork. I dig it, baby!

One too many mai-tais (or other adult beverages of choice), there, Shawn?   verydrunk.gif    (Jesting, of course)  ;)

But it is summer... so it's time to party and enjoy!!!  ;D

Cool posters, too, all the way around. Esp. the Thai Evil Dead. It looks like the artist's name (or a name and some numbers) is on the left side, just above the outstretched hand but I cant quite make it out. I'd love to know who did this poster.

Some more new ones.

Hot Fuzz | UK Quad - I particularly like how Nick Frost has rather camp stance against Simon Pegg looking very macho.

The Shining | UK Quad - Just because I like the film and didn't have it.

Back to the Future 2 | UK Quad - Has some heavy folds and some very slight border nicks but I can deal with it, especially for the price.

Very nice Shining quad and Evil Dead. Just had a few bus shelters come in (with help from a very kind member)

Been looking for this for many years and then 2 pop up at once. Nice to complete the set though.

This is the copy that was originally listed on Yahoo Auction Japan (I posted it in the star wars poster). I forgot to put a bid on it, and I was kicking myself for a day or two. So I went ahead making a contact to the seller, and offered a lot more than the closing price to see if he had another copy. He said he happened to have another one (or the same one, the picture was too blur to tell). The end of the day, he got more money out of it, so he is happy. I got it still for less than my bottom line, so I am happy. Absolutely love it.

BTW, mine does not have the sticker either.

Nice pickup here, wormie.   thumbsup.gif

It's not.

80's big hair.  Superb.

I always loved the shot of the girl, two up from bottom right.  The one with her back to us.  As an impressionable 19 year old looking at a shot of a barely clad girl with her legs apart, even with her back to us, I did love it.

This was in the days before they had lads mags with the same but with the girl looking towards us astride a chair or some such.

Anyway, poster-wise, I have never seen this.  So this should also go in the 'What's made you happy today' thread.

June...July? Whatever...

Here's a closer look at the name. I don't read Thai. Hmm.

Could you tell us a bit more about that Duel quad please Paul? Is it a re-release? I think Duel was first shown as a double-bill with Jaws.

First release in 72 as far as I know Mark. Don't forget though, even double bill releases had stand-a-lone Quads produced for each film, not every time, but quite often. The Hammers being a good example.

It's Jolly scarce I've seen two of these (inc this one) in all the years I've been at it, though it isn't a film I alway look for, but if it pops up I do take notice. I have a Press-quotes quad also from an early/first release too, as you know Mark, British paper is not easy to get on this film...

I love this! Great sig and doodle.

June seemed a bit quiet, so great to see folk out posting their pick ups this month! I love seeing all these pick ups.

Here are 3 I got recently

Secretary Japanese B2. I'm fond of the film and also geometric patterns on my film posters

Sicario German A1. I really liked this film a lot, but most of the posters were a bit dull. I like this Calavera style though

Akira - I think this is a video poster? Or perhaps given away with the video release in Japan? It has 1987 Bandai Home Video in small text at the bottom. It's B2 size. I love the image.

What's the story on this poster? I have what I guess would be considered the regular UK one sheet with the orange color in the sky and around the Wicker Man, and without the "chilling programme" text.

I am guessing it was for a special screening, but where and when?
Title: Re: July 2016
Post by: paul waines on July 18, 2016, 11:22:26 AM
Those UK 1shts are from the 74 showing of the film, after they realised how popular it was. Prior to that it was released twice in 73, an unofficial release that was stopped after a very short time, and the first official release as a second/supporting feature with Don't look now, which is what this poster is from.  It's a Double Crown by the way..

Yes! Watch it, and try to go in as "cold" as possible (i.e. don't read up on the plot. Though I guess the poster does give a bit away).
Title: Re: July 2016
Post by: erik1925 on July 22, 2016, 01:29:30 AM
The poster (to me, anyhow) doesnt reveal anything really, about the plot or story. So I think that's good.

To be honest, when I saw the Wicker Man figure on the poster, it made me think of the Burning Man event that's held out in the Nevada desert every year.

So my viewing of the flicker will truly be "stone cold;" I really have NO clue what the story or film is about.

COOL stuff as always, nice pickups everyone.

Thought I would share this one just because it was interesting.

When Disney started promoting Tron one of the cool things they did was to create a kind of scavenger hunt. One of the items along the way were the guerilla Flynn Lives posters pasted up in different areas that when put under a black light would offer clues that led to another poster or location and ultimately led to Flynn's arcade. The lit image is one I found online to show what it looks like under the light.
