Nice scary images/monster montage on The Horror Show, Jason.
And Beast From Haunted Cave -- such classic, 1950's imagery. Way cool, Shawn.
thumbsup.gif to both.

What a start to June, excellent stuff both of you...

Ooooo Jason! LOVE the VAMPYRES poster...and THE HORROR SHOW is way cool. What is that movie? Looks like a THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT for Universal's horror flicks. Is that what it is? Coolio poster anyway.
Thank you Jeff and Paul.

Nice start to the month! Not a poster, but I got this totally awesome book on the posters of Josep Renau (also posted in the Josep Renau artist thread).

It really is a beautiful, well-done book. I do own the majority of the posters from the photos I showed. I have these ones (as well as others not shown):
- Camino del Infierno (one of my very favorite posters)
- Crimen y Castigo
- La Selva de Fuego
- Corazon de Fiera
- Tierra Baja
- Cita con la Muerte
- El Charro y la Dama
- Las Puertas del Presidio
- Fijate que Suave
-
Splendid book. Love it. Congratulations, what a joy.

Gates of Hell and Brides of Dracula are so awesome. I really like the Gates of Hell quad, but they are so pricey.

Earth vs. the Flying Saucers

I never got anything on the title because I follow a strict "have to seen it to purchase" motto.
Any good?
PS: I think the German is superior to the French (even though I like Kerfyser a lot).
T
-
It is a typical cheesy sci-fi from the 50s. Like Crab Monsters or Colossus of New York. I like those old films though. They got us to where we are today.
I adore them equally, however the German stands a much higher chance of getting framed it is after all an A1. I wish I could figure out who the German Artist is..... Jeff and I discussed it in some length a few weeks ago.... the art appears to not be signed....

Did you ask Wolfgang?

No.... Doh.gif....that is actually a great idea T
I will ask him next time I email him!

THIERRY: Wow! As always, a stunning collection. The ones i am drawn to the most are NO HIGHWAY IN THE SKY and ROCCO AND HIS BROTHERS. I'm also groovin' on the GYPSY a lot as well. Fabulous all around though.
GINGERMAN: Oooooo I dig the dueling EARTH VS THE FLYING SAUCERS. I need to get something on that title eventually. Crappy-ish movie but great Harryhausen flying saucer stuff/effects. Bravo!
-
No Highway in the Sky... hands down.... is really great (and also added to my movie to watch list, too).
-
I really like the Angry Hills poster from T's list, as well as Gingerman's Earth vs Flying Saucers pair.
Here is my first movie poster of the month:
Also, this is original artwork, not a poster, but I'll post it here anyway since the artist Ernesto Garcia Cabral also created many movie posters.

Please take another look. I tried from a couple different devices and the photos seem to be showing up for me. Maybe photobucket is just being flaky. I wish I had chosen another image hosting service way back when but now I feel locked in. Oh well.

I see them now. Oooo i dig them...especially the PANCHO VILLA one (Is cabeza head? skull? Something like that...), Another score-a-rama for you! Congratulations!

Yep, "cabeza" is head ("calavera" is skull). I figured that poster would fit your tastes!

Aussie daybill for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
The vivid and colorful art is by Mike Vaughan.
I think this was some of the most beautiful art done for the title. When I first saw it, the rich, saturated color and overall design grabbed me right away.
-
That Indy is very nice. I've not seen that poster before. Good find and congratulations.

Nice one Jeff, you do know he's named after the dog right?

Looks like this art was used on the UK one sheet:
http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/7282347.html
And then in Australia, on the daybills and AU one sheet posters, too:
http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/15400587.html
But it doesnt look like the Vaughan art was used on any US posters, but I dont know for certain.

Nice catch Jeff thumbsup.gif

Like Jeff said, these are the only 3 variations of the Vaughan poster. Aussie and UK.

Aussie daybill for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
Awesome grab, Jeff. I've never had much of a desire to nab any Indy posters, but I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for this art.
Two new additions...
Re-Animator (French) : I love the art on this one. Everytime I pick up one of these Frenchies, I'm always blown away by the size, though I have a handful in my collection. Two of my boys make a cameo to give my Instagram followers a frame of reference on the size.
Legend of Billie Jean : Haven't seen this since I was probably ten years old, but I remember loving it, and the memory of this film has always stuck with me for one reason or another.

Great Re-Animator piece there, Chris. And i'm liking the 2 "measuring stix" for proportion and size, too. ;D
Any idea who did the art?
And i'm with you on some of the Indy stuff. I like the Amsel art of Ford, but the brown background (on US posters) not as much. So when I saw the very colorful art on the daybill (and I wasnt even familiar with it), it really jumped out at me and caught my eye.
-
Thierry Watorek drew the Re-Animator.
And you would have known about Indy had you checked my website. Just sayin'.
T
-
Thanks, T.
Other thing is.. Indy stuff was never in my main sights, so i never have done a detailed check and looked at other country's posters with any kind of regularity.
The other that I really do like the look of, tho, too, is the Polish OS for Raiders.

Indy is awesome, Indiana Jones posters are awesome.
Which Polish poster? There are 5 for Raiders and 2 for ToD. And I'm not talking about the numbered repros Bruce has been selling.

Only one more boy, sorry to say... I'd be tempted to appease the masses calling for better scaling, but I'm afraid he might drool all over it. You all will have to live with my feeble attempt. ;)
-

The ones that are numbered and signed. I think Bruce is selling an entire batch of 50, one after the other. There is a Raider and an Empire, if I recall.

T
Awesome, T. Matt seems to be helping a lot of folks our here lately.
Is there a reason you'd prefer folded vs. linen back, regardless of price... or is your comment strictly for pricing reasons?
-
I ALWAYS stay away from LB posters. To me, a folded poster is WAY more valuable than a linenbacked poster.
Main reason: you never know what kind of work has been done to your poster. A good restorer can hide a lot of stuff. I was burned early on and I never came back. I will always look for a clean folded copy and will pass on 99% of LB posters. If I know I will not be able to find a good folded copy, I will buy a shitty one before I buy a LB copy. LB is last resort. If my folded copy is bad, I will have it linenbacked myself. At least I know what's up.
I will only buy a LB copy if it is the ONLY one I can find.
Also, storage is a big element. I own almost 12,000 movie posters, and LB posters take a lot of room.

among the great stuff I picked up this past weekend at Cinevent was a rare pressbook for Human Wreckage
32 pages inc a herald and it's broadsheet size. in the middle is a color section showing every poster for the movie, including the great 24 sheet shown below.
sorry for the imprint. I don't want pirates taking the images

I've seen this described as a photoshop disaster but I find it intriguing. I also like that it has an extra figure compared to the 1-Sheet. I also like Eva Green ;D

Oooo I like that as well. I am super curious about this film, having read the series. The first book was the best, but left opened ended (so you'd buy the sequels). I wonder if Burton will be able to pull this film off. I know it's been bounced around (release date) for a while. That may spell trouble. Part of the book's charm/appeal was the use of "authentic" vintage photos of unusual people/events/things that the author used to work the story around. I do want to see the movie--good or bad--and I really like the poster. Congratulations on the score.
-
Thanks Monster. I haven't read any of the books but I've heard their good. I hope Burton can do them justice. He needs to get back to the quality of his earlier films so hopefully this is it. I also like Jane Goldman's work so I'm staying positive for now.
There may be a nod to his next film in this poster too...
-
Nod to next film..? I looked up his imdb and saw possibilities for DUMBO and / or BEETLEJUICE 2. So we're you referring to the elephant topiary? Hmm. Interesting. Does he often do that...hide things in his posters? I had not heard that before. Cool.
-
Yes I was referring to Dumbo. Who knows if this is intentional but fun if it is. The roof has kind of a face in it too, like the house in the Beetlejuice poster but I'm probably stretching this a little now!
-
Eva works for me... :D
I quite like the poster myself Matt, nice pick up.

Isnt this poster done by a well known designer? cant recall the name, tho. And were there a number of these made, almost like a series of posters, with the various, main characters' image highlighted in the center like this?
-
Didn't know you were after that T, I could have let you know many months ago about it...
Now to find the other 4 that go with it?
-
T. makes sense on the linen backing... just wasn't sure where you were coming from with it. I've never bought a backed poster myself. I've only had two backed, but have taken extensive pre- and post- restoration pictures, and saved invoices in case there is ever a question of how much restoration was done, and by whom (again, my type-A coming to light).

I'm looking for everything Star Wars, Paul, that is everything I don't have. You can always check my collection on my website.
And yes, I will be looking for the 4 extra panels. I already found one, but it's not in the condition I like.

This is exactly how it should be done, and with such information, I'd be much more inclined to buy linenbacked posters. Good job.

Is that the one from eBay as it looks the same pic. Its a lovely quad and well done on your purchase. Another sold about 6 months ago or so, I was watching that one but was sold as an auction. Same seller also has a Hildebrandt up for £2,400.

Swedish OS for the UK movie, Love On the Dole (1941), with a young Deborah Kerr (age 19), in her first starring role. Tho a successful book and play, the British Board of Film Censors would not allow the film to be made in the 1930s, as it was considered "a very sordid story in very sordid surroundings, with dangerous undertones."
The film was released in Sweden in March of 1944 and the BFI did a screening of the movie in January of this year (2016) as part of their film series. (http://www.screenonline.org.uk/film/id/485682/)
One little factoid I read about: The film was the first English made feature film to show English police wielding batons against a crowd.
The original poster art looks to have been done in charcoal with the added red color added when the poster was made. I think the detail is beautifully amazing and very life-like.

Not as exciting as other purchases here but like the art on this one - rare these days with newer posters, UK one sheet happy buyer
Nice one! Dig the art for sure.
If it's exciting for you, that's all that matters... I've been surprised in my short time here how many folks get excited by my taste in presumably "not as exciting" posters.

Oh yes a uk one sheet, not so common. Nice score!

How did I miss this. What do you mean, "not as exciting as other purchases"? I love this poster Damomac. I got one myself a few months back. REAL artwork instead of photoshop? Awesome!

I really like the fact that it's drawn/painted art, too. And like T mentioned, it also has a Struzan feel to it. thumbup
Speaking of the artist, any idea who did this one, Damien?

Another by Josep Renau:
-
I like this one by Espert:
But even better than the front of the poster is this sketch in pencil on the back:
This poster would do well with being linen backed, but there is no way I would want to lose that drawing!
I really wonder about the circumstances that led someone to sit down and draw that picture on the back of a movie poster. I wonder if they ever made a living as a caricaturist?
-
I'm not done yet! Three more by Espert and one by Vargas.

Great looking group there, once again, Deke.
And that drawing/sketch on the back is pure gold! What an added bonus!
-
Thanks everyone - the best part is the searching part as you all know. When you find something a little different and a little rare its a great feeling. ;D

Thanks Jeff! Both Charade and Joan of Arc are re-releases, 1973 and 1975 respectively. But the sky behind Ingrid Bergman is just too cool ;D The Star Wars I managed to get under the radar, only a few bidders on it... so thumbsup.gif
-
I agree, Devin.
That sky behind Bergman is just incredible looking.

Devin, what's the name of the samurai-looking film? Thats a cool poster, too. I love the calligraphy that is made to look as if done with a brush and black ink. thumbsup.gif

The Japanese characters are read as "Sanada Yukimura No Boryaku" which translates literally to Sanada Yukimura's Plan (Strategy).
However this film has 3 different English titles: Renegade Ninjas, The Death of the Shogun and The Shogun Assassins.
IMDb has some more information:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165218/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165218/)
To be honest, I knew nothing about this movie; I just liked the poster!
-
Nice pick ups Devin! thumbsup.gif
Thanks Jason!
-
Thanks for the translation, Devin. And I'm with you on how a poster can grab you, even when you have no idea what movie its for, let alone never having seen it before, either. The pure aesthetics can pull you right in.

Beautiful Belgian, too. That's one of my fave movies, also.

Thanks Jeff,

Nothing like getting something that is rather straight from the source. And exciting, too!

Nothing special as I'm not a huge fan of Peter Straufeld but I've been hunting these ones for a while at a cheap price and I got these for a good deal. They are also part of my second wave of poster collecting. Been out of the game too long! I recently bought a Vivre sa Vie Italian to kick start my collecting again. I should have that in the next month or two (it's getting linenbacked)

Did you ever see that article that I posted for u on Anna Karina. She was in LA a month or so ago for the re-release of Bande à Part and ended up on the front page of the LA Times Calendar section. Anyhow, I posted it on the forum but can't remember where.

Vivre sa Vie Italian, that sounds absolutely glorious! Can't wait to see it.

Ooh no it didn't see it! Thanks for posting again. I saw Anna when she was in London in January. One of the best moments of my life! And yes, the Japanese poster is gorgeous. The latest Italian brings my Vivre sa Vie collection to five (small French, British, Belgium, 2 foglio Italian and now 4 foglio Italian) I want to stop there but I do like the German one as well as the Japanese. We'll see

not really a fan of the movie BUT that poster is EXCELLENT! really unusual design for the time.
and yeah they dont show up much either ESPECIALLY rolled! nice find :D
-
If I wasn't sticking to my mantra of "I have to have seen it to own it" I would for sure buy this poster. Alas, my kids prevent me from watching anything longer than 1 hour at home. I just fall asleep. Theaters are okay, I stuff myself with popcorn and milk duds, but home, on the couch, is a killer.

super SUPER pleased with this.
i got a copy of this poster about 5 years ago and in typical ITALIAN seller style, they neglected to say it had LOTS of brown tape residue right in the center of the image :(
not an expensive poster by any means and not even a movie many people know about [its an illigetimate sequel to the boroczyk art house movie the beast].
but this is only the second time in 5 years i have seen this 2F come up for sale. the 4f and LOC i see plenty and they are both ugly as hell.

Deadly Blessing (1981) (Belgian)
The art seems to be unique to the poster, at least as far as I'm aware of. The top portion was partially borrowed from either the Italian (http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/653615.html) or British (http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/15101373.html) poster, while the bottom portion may have been inspired by the Australian (http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/7554793.html) poster. Of course, it depends on which art was created first. I apologize if it is not unique art, as I have not done extensive research on it.

The poster is folded, although I could not find an image online with folds (sorry for the poor image quality). This is the third copy I have of this art, the other two being a French Petite and French 1p (although the image on the German poster is flipped).

I cannot tell you how many times I've tried to get them, all of them, but they always went for more than what I was willing to pay. Maybe one day.
Really nice posters.

I think the JP style might be my favorite design. The 2 characters against the open green background really makes them the central focal point.
-
I have some Chinese Bookie posters also. So many designs and all are cool. I don't think I've ever seen a folded poster from the movie
-
All great pickups so far everyone. Looking to add a few to my collection here soon hopefully.

SMASHING blow up posters!!!!!
thats one of those posters i know i wont ever own because im a tight wad haha
ahhhhh well.
picked up another quad that isnt really in my spectrum of what i go for, but liked the art and of course it was cheap :D

Hi there. I am on a road trip for 2 weeks...so i went ahead and uploaded my July 1st posting on my thread. (Yes, I know it's still June. Duh...) There isnt anything that super duper, but whatever. Here is a sample:
FRANKENSTEIN'S CASTLE OF FREAKS:
I saw this obscurity years and years ago---and need to see it again--as I remember liking it (in a jaw-droppingly wonderfully bad sort of way). I don't remember much about it---but what a great title.
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (International):
I've wanted this for years. There are actually a few different foreign versions, but this is my first one. The US one sheets for this 70s remake are just dull (I think). I didn't need this--but it is still cool.
SUICIDE SQUAD:
I have no clue what this movie is about...but I totally dig the poster. With all of the skulls...it's very Monster A GoGo-esque. (Now watch the movie suck...)
