Vibrant colors. Very nice. Can you tell us more about them? Like, what are they for? Are they all advertising tea? What year? I especially like the second one, so wrong on so many levels by today's standard, but so fun.

They do look Jollyfine up close.. The bottom one is advertising Tea, but the other two are for Pantomimes, a yearly Christmas time tradition over here. All are stone-litho from the mid/late 30's, they may have used the same design for a couple of years, as these were generic posters, to be printed off as and when. I've only ever seen two (inc this one)of the Robinson Crusoe in this size, glad to get it.
Most of the Robinson posters from this time would never be aloud now-a-days for obvious reasons... They do capture a bygone era.
-
Very nice posters Paul! They must look great.
I can see why the 2nd poster is controvertial... That parrot is way too big for his cage and he also got a bangle embedded in his face
-
Thanks Steve, would love to get it backed and up somewhere. And yes, we're all against animal cruelty in this house....
-
It reminds me a bit of Tintin au Congo (circa 1930) which has been banned in the US for obvious reasons.

Those are very nice, Paul. Beautiful and vibrant colors on the first 2 and the tea advert is wonderful.

I'd love to see that. I have a couple of Banned cartoons myself on 8mm film, must chase up that Tintin...
Thanks Jeff, they are quite the ticket up close...

shorts and socks?

I knew these were for stage plays, but had never heard of pantomimes productions. They are more common in 3 sheet format, so this large 12 sh size is really pretty neat!
-
They were made in all the sizes, but to find the bigger ones with no bits missing is a challenge. Quads being the most popular size.
We did have a Pantomime poster thread somewhere, but I couldn't find it..
-
Paul, just to refresh my memory... is a UK 12sh about the same size as a US 6sh?
This Aladdin looks to be the same as yours. Is that right?

Not far off Jeff, just a bit bigger, mostly in hight, if Bruce has his measurements right, it's short. that possibly is the same, but from a different printing by the look of it. They did twiddle with them for various printings. As I say most of the images were stock images and used as required. Mostly around Christmas for these.
-
Truly eyecatching.
The Aladdin also reminds me of early magic posters, as well, similar to those done for the Fak Hongs shows.
-
Sure do, it's most likely the same artist Fred Rusby, who was quite prolific around that time. He did a load of work for Taylors.

Those are stock U.S. six-sheet measurements. I will have Matt correct this one, and also all the other past English six-sheets, and make a note so it shouldn't happen again in the future.
Thanks much for finding this error!
-
No problem Bruce. Mind they do have 12sheet printed on them. ;)
Have you seen many of the Robinson Crusoe ones above Bruce, I know the bulk of these Panto posters from that find went to the U.S. and I've only ever seen two of these?
-
We call them "English 6-sheets" and "English 3-sheets" because to call them by their "right names" would cause a LOT of questions!
I have never seen another of the Robinson Crusoe 12 sheets. I don't think there were any in the ones that went to the U.S.
-
Thanks Bruce.
Yes, I can see the problems calling them their correct names, but it's just what I grow up with...
-
Wow Im diggin that Aladdin poster, cool posters man.

That is super cool, Matias. Is it from the 1950s? It kind of has that vibe and feel to it.
Great score! thumbsup.gif

No chase necessary, Paul. It's in print in the UK and everywhere else except PC America. It's a fun read, but then again, I grew up on this stuff.

Yep, seems to be from the 50s

If that was my restoration, I would kick my own ass!
Good thing is I like it, and don't care much about condition...

Maybe it visited Australia for the subtle retouching? ;D
(Or perhaps it was even worked on by Mr. Cloutier from Posterfix) Doh.gif

Wow Paul. These are really splendid. Where do you find these things! You have such a heterogeneous collection, really there is something there for everyone. :)

Crikey that's a big word for a Friday.... ;)
Thanks Rosa, good of you to say.
