Title: Rogue One
Post by: Tob on April 07, 2016, 09:11:20 AM
Another SW film! Looks like it might be like a spy thriller. Very good to see another female lead in what I'm sure will be a big commercial hit

With Rogue One, does this mean there may be a series of cinematic SW spin offs (like was done with Star Trek)?  dontknow.gif

I really hope this is as good as the trailers make it seem.

They are saying no.  To a sequel to Rogue One at least.

As for other stand alone films, ....?

I was under the impression that they were going to do more stand-alone spin-off films alongside more movies in the main series.

There is certainly a film being prepped which looks like it will essentially be 'Han Solo - The Early Years' -- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3778644/?ref_=nv_sr_1

According to its imdb page, it is being made by the guys who made The Lego Movie from a couple of years back.

I also cannot wait to see Rogue One. Less than three weeks to go!

I am sure they will churn out as many as the market will bear.

This, but ultimately it will be more than the market can bear.

Sounds like something that could be made for The Hallmark Channel -  it could be made as a real tear jerker.  crying   ;D

They paid 4 billion dollars for the property... I fully expect them get their money back.  That said, I don't think it's in their best interest to oversaturate the market.  We'll probably get a movie a year, some spin-off TV shows, and of course lots and lots and LOTS of swag.

I think the Star Wars "universe" could be every bit as lucrative as Marvel has been lately.  If thought of in those terms, 4 billion was a steal.  Hell, I bet the toys alone will net them double on their investment within the next few years.  The films, TV shows,  and licensing in perpetuity are just icing on the cake.  Pretty nice icing too.  The Force Awakens reportedly cost 200 mil to make and marketing is usually double that -- so say ~600 million total.  Global box office was 2 billion and that doesn't include Blu-ray, rental, streaming, etc...

I was going to post something similar but I couldn't remember the $4bn figure.

And IF the rule of thumb that says a film earns only 40% of its total revenue from theatrical earnings, and the other 60% comes from DVD, Blu Ray, Cable / Satellite and terrestrial, then yes, the $4bn is a steal.
