Title: 18th C French Engraving - "Musique"
Post by: erik1925 on January 27, 2016, 01:25:43 PM
I came across this small, French hand tinted engraving (it measures 2.75 x 4.5 inches) in a second hand shop not far from me a couple years ago. It was in a plastic bag with a number of other works on paper. I bought the group as a whole, for a few dollars.

When i got home, I began to research this small engraving, and learned that the artist of this image was a man named Hubert Francois Gravelot (1699-1773) His name is on the lower left, right below the artwork.

The name of the engraver, who re-created Gravelot's work, was a man named Jean-Charles Baquoy. He lived from 1721-1777. This engraving is entitled "Musique" and was published in 1765. His name is on the lower right, just below the art.
