  :P

So photos.

All my posters are in 3 inch tubes now and i spent so much time getting the Black Swans rolled perfect i didn't take photos.
I was rolling them up for an hour making sure there were no folds or creases. So i am not going to unroll them for a photograph, sorry. (I can post photos of the normal one sheet sets i have)
I take pictures of all the posters and i forget a few but normally i can just unroll, take photo and roll back up but not this time.

Yeah so i did buy the Dark Knight International one sheet below but i got a message soon after from the guy saying that it was sold already! I'm calling bulls**t on that one.
The photo of The Prestige is the seller photo as again i forgot to photograph it before i rolled it up. It's under the BS so no chance.
Serenity International one sheet which i think is much better than the U.S. Better by miles.
And a Sin City Alba just cause i like the image. Must have 5 of these now. Some are a little different though.

And these two a few months ago. More than that actually. 6 months.

Managed to get a rolled double sided Virgin Suicides UK Quad. Excellent condition. Again i just like the image. People always slag off Kirsten Dunst for her teeth but i think she's got a great smile. Just beautiful.

And Another Aliens UK Quad. Great condition as well. Can anyone guess what i paid for this single sided and rolled (I think straight away, after being folded) little gem?

So i think that's it. Can't remember when i last posted photos so there may be more. I know i got a huge french 'Springbreakers' poster. If i can be bothered i will dig it out and take a photo.
Cheers.

Oh, no, not at all... It is clearly the photographer who has not composed the model/photo correctly. The photographer would have been best to photograph her from another angle... such as from behind, and with the lights off.

Never heard of the series, but I like the visuals.  I this kinda like the German Bond, with an American FBI agent?  Cool posters.  Instant re-release, or just 1,2,3,4,5... throughout the 60s?

Been eyeballing this one for years, the exchange rate, a wonderful discount by the seller, and some Christmas cash finally made it happen.  A 1907 horizontal g-r-a-n-d-e for La Terroriste:

Looks okay to me.  What happened is that they re-released the movie, but it was a small re-release and they didn't take the time to photoshop what looks like an original set photograph.  Who cares if it's out of focus, it's not meant for collectors and you get the point.  Someone with more money would have probably made it look better, but it doesn't really matter for a 10 theater re-release.

The fight is not being won, best to go with the flow, even if makes little logical sense. When I hear of 'apple' I think of a Electronics company not the round fruit of a tree of the rose family, which typically has thin green or red skin and crisp flesh.

I believe it is a 1988 COO RR poster for The Wild Swans, a 1959 Soviet-animated version of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about a princess whose brothers are turned into swans by their evil stepmother.

Excellent! Thanks Ted, very good info there. I'm going to watch some of that on youtube later to see what it's like. Lovely looking poster.

Grapes of Wrath is stunning, even beats the Thomas Hart Benton posters.  Would love to have one.

Ever since I stumbled across it in a dictionary years ago, "jackassery" has become one of my favorite words.  Became particularly appropriate in the internet age.

I feel like "douchbaggery" implies a dick-ish/condescending intent that is absent in "jackassery".  A great word and all in good fun.   8)

T
i guess i shouldnt moan about the beast poster, seeing as it cost 5 euros. but as i have had experience with design and printing, that kind of thing bugs me somewhat. given a couple of hours i could have easily made it look better!

Thanks to whoever sold this in auction to me. I have been wanting this one for a while and bit because it is in great condition. I wanted the best poster bearing Gloria Grahame's likeness and I reckon this is it.

I'm trying to cut back this year, but I haven't stopped buying and have posted a bunch of new purchases on my thread (clearly I'm NOT cutting back enough. Ha!). A 1937 Swedish RR OS for the 1915 Chaplin film, A Burlesque On Carmen. Even tho a later RR, I really like the vivid color and caricature artwork of Chaplin and the way the cane wraps around to the left of his face.

The artwork reminds me of that done by Al Hirschfeld.

The artist here is Bjorne.

Sort of unrelated.  But have you seen there is a chap on ebay selling a similar version of the SPECTRE teaser quad from Cineworld cinemas, replete with competition info.  The posters are in terrible condition, but in the absence of anything similar...

He also had a similarly terrible condition teaser 1 Sheet (b/w), with Coming Soon in IMAX verbiage at the bottom, which I had suspected must have existed, but never really found.  He had one.  But awful condition.  I found myself intrigued, nonetheless.

Ted, one side note /discovery about this poster and the associated film. This is not a RR poster for the early 60s animated version of The Wild Swans. This poster is for the 1987 live version, titled Metsluiged (the Estonian pronunciation of Wild Swans), and was directed by Helle Karis.  (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296589/combined). Thanks, too, to EMP Matt for the additional info, as well.  ;)

This was a Xmas gift from my sister. I've never seen this film, so it was a great gesture on her part.  sm1

It's a US insert for the 1950 film, Three Husbands, starring Eve Arden, Ruth Warrick and Howard Da Silva. When i first looked at it, I would have almost sworn that the image of Ms Arden was Lucille Ball, at first glance.

And because she had never researched or bought a poster before, let alone finding one that is 65 years old, I have to say I'm very happy with it.

Title: Re: January 2016
Post by: erik1925 on January 23, 2016, 09:58:02 PM
Steve, I think the width of the bottom border can vary, with some many being narrower.  Maybe this was done a bit wider, in case some play dates and times wanted to be added in by a theater owner (?) US inserts measure in at 14 x 36 inches. The top border, too, is a bit wider than either side.

When i asked her how and why she picked this (she got it from an online seller), she said she liked the imagery and that it looked like a fun movie. All the reasons that collectors can go for a certain poster, too!

And I like that it is drawn art rather than cut and pasted photos.

At lunchtime yesterday, I stopped into the little 2nd hand store not far from where I was working. Rolled up on another piece of furniture, I found this. It's a poster for the 1995 Festival du Film Policier de Cognac. I decided to snag it as they wanted a buck for it.

From wiki, I read that this was a film festival, held in Cognac, France from 1982-2007 and it focused on the police/crime genre of films.  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festival_du_Film_Policier_de_Cognac )

The festival had some really interesting posters made over those years, too.

The poster is drawn art. At first, I thought the bottom scene was a photo, but it isn't.  It measures 19.75 x 27.5 inches.

The poster is also signed and dated. The name looks to be maybe HELKI (?) and is dated '94.

This is what arrived, tho delayed, yesterday, with that truncated, USPS shipping label.

A Russian poster (my first one) for the 1961 Czech film called Oseni (released as Green Corn in English speaking countries).

It measures 25 x 41.5 inches.

I find the simple art/color scheme both very expressive of the drama in the film. And the red title stands out well, imo. Plus, when one thinks that this poster was initially "locked" behind the iron curtain, and has since made its way to the West, is also something that I think about, when I look at it.

Art is by Manukhin

^ Farewell Uncle Tom.  Now that is a film that I'd want to watch but not sure if I can, anything about slavery just makes my blood boil...so i probably wont, as you all know one has to look after herself :P

Anyway. Great set, assume it is the full LC set.

Bits and bobs

German Program (Hammers) DRACULA

Now THIS i do really like too, Ari.  clap clap

Those images are all simply iconic. I always liked too, that the one closeup image of Lee, used on this piece (the Italian 70s RR 4F comes to mind too), that image has actually been rotated so his face is upright and vertical in that still. In the film, that shot is Dracula in his coffin (and before the sun has fully set), in response to Harker's having just put a stake thru his vampire bride's heart.

This shot of Lee starts at about the 2 minute mark:

Nice poster!

Could it perhaps be the work of French poster artist Melki? The signature looks like his.

I believe he painted French posters for the likes of Creepshow, Buckaroo Banzai, one or two of the Nightmare on Elm Street sequels, among many others.

Sorry, just checked this thread.  Yes, it is Laurent Melki.  He did Cognac for 5 years.

There is only one thing worse than double posting...
triple posting... (I think that is an instant ban from this forum, with only a written apology to the APF community enabling a tentative return in 6 months time)

An American (80's) holiday classic. Just wait until Christmas next year. You can catch it on TBS during the 24hr marathon.

Well played.  happy1

Taking some pictures, might as well through a couple up. The black and white neighborhood area of this posters works so well.

These are supposedly rare. I get that sales pitch a lot!

Nice Dale. What size are those posters for The Martian? Like those a lot.

yeah B1 on the poltergeist. The Martian posters run about 26.5 x 39.5, single sided. Just a touch heavier on the paper stock than a normal one-sheet.
