Well these came in this week...very late I may add..
With it being my Birthday month, I thought I'd start August.. :)
Picked up a rolled one of these, which was owned by Mr Bysouth himself.

Also from his collection was this test print that was sent to Gerald Thomas for OKing the poster.

And from that other great poster artist Mr Chantrell, this is an original hand drawn rough prior to doing the full artwork.

Just got this 1931 German poster for an incredibly early Peter Lorre film. Wish he was on it somewhere, but cool nonetheless.

I was beginning to worry about you, Paul... what with all that unattractive rubbish you've been buying lately... wynk
But all three of these certainly belong in the hallowed halls of Quadmaster Waines' Museum of Fun, Sun and Sin.
Well done, sir. Thank you for restoring my faith in your taste.
cheers

Owning an original Chantrell is mighty special, Paul.
How big is the Baby Love preliminary?
Full quad size?
Its a beauty.

Harrison has always looked way too happy on this poster to me, which is annoying because I really like the rest of it...
-
This is my only acquisition for the year so far...
The Hidden Blade B1 - the second best B1 on the title, but I doubt that I'll come across the other one...
I'd mentioned to Ari on his Seattle stop that I'd been spending a good bit time at thrift stores recently and I came across this a couple of days ago... Any help on this from anyone?... Pub sign? It has one hanging hook attached (the other has been ripped out) and is unpainted wood on the reverse. The GRE was in existence from 1860-1922 and the Liverpool station was built in 1875, so that helps give a time frame if real.
I can't think of a reason that anyone would go to the trouble of painting a fake this large (54" x 16" at it's tallest point)

Also, found this piece of Venetian (Murano) glass... That I knew I was going to purchase long before I found that it was signed by Luigi Onesto and still stickered from both the Vetreria Artistica Oball and the Vetro Artistico Murano. It's worth significantly more than the $8 paid... (only semi-comparable (lesser condition and color combination) on eBay is listed at a $250 asking...
This is submerged glass and is very heavy. Solid layers of color are fused under an overall clear layer. The red is overlaid with a blue layer on one side and a lighter yellow layer, which is not really showing up well in the pic, on the other.

What a gorgeous poster (I would love to have the other one too!). You can't beat Murano glass..Beautiful !!!Estupendo!!

Beautiful poster, Tom and this was one that I was watching as well. Good to see it went to a fellow APF member!! clap clap clap clap

That Chantrell rough drawing is quite the ticket, Paul. Congrats on the pickup. Original art at some of its finest. :D

Thanks Jeff, Even though just a rough, you can see all the brush and ink strokes of a very confident artist.
-
Thanks Guys, your a star Ted.... ;)
Ooops, just realized that I omitted a qualifier.
It should have read: "all that unattractive modern rubbish."
wynk
Now, what size is that Chantrell original?
cheers
-
Nice ones Paul!
-
+ 1 Great month Paul.
-
Thanks Chris and Rosa, I do have a couple of others I'll post later... ;) I promise I won't post any Modern crap this month. 8)
Ted, the actual Artwork measures 22 1/2"x15 1/2". Just a nice size to frame....

Sorry for the poor picture quality, I'm taking a break from the vacuum table for a while. The French posters are growing on me (as my wallet shrinks).
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER French Movie Poster

Like the look of that one
-
That's what's great about this hobby, someones crap is another's treasure.
-
Nice one, Mike.
I always have liked this poster image! :D
-
If there were no text on it I would think it was a Russian poster, I'm not sure why. Maybe the way the people are standing on the boat?
-
I see what you mean, Mike. It does have that Russian feel to the artwork.

wow, this looks very-very cool! congarts!
-
I had exactly the same feeling. Maybe that the art uses only 3 colors (ok, 4 if we count white), and the figures on the boat looks somehow like communist workers in the old soviet propaganda posters. All in all really SOC' look.

I love flea markets, but unfortunately nice flea market finds are really rare. That is why i am extremely happy for these:

Yes, in fact i love the feeling to score something like this at the market for coins. I paid around $10 for them together. ;)

Love that French Night to Remember and really dig those Yugo X cards.
cheers to both of you!

Yes Mike - the price is cool, but if you consider how many times you wake up extremely early and go to the market just to find nothing really interesting...
But the thing is that its a passion for me, so i go to flea markets anyhow - of course always with the thought in my mind that this will be the day of my BIG FIND. If i find nothing, its fine, if i find something - its even better. :D

cheers to both of you!
Thank you! ;)

Hope you don't mind if i share another flea market find of mine:
These are 2 german lobby cards (press book pages?) for the star wars trilogy, from 1982. Please note that the title DIE RAICHE DER JEDI RITTER (Revenge of the Jedi) is printed, but the word "revenge" was changed with a pen (!) to "return". I guess these aren't worth a lot, but for me it was a great / valuable find for sure!

I will pick up the modern slack. Give me a bit and I won't disappoint. Promise.

Won't argue with that! Just wish it was 24x36. Looks amazing in person.

Definitely! Was looking a long time for that one.

Crikey Mike, what a haul....
Liking Eva, and the Pirates ones.
Oh and I posted a Quad of Heart of the sea a month or so back, and not a comment... dontknow.gif

ah ya. originally scheduled for March 2015 then pushed back to December 2015. A bit confusing, that.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you!

Been watching and waiting for that one a long time. Patience pays, though, as I got it for a steal and it's near perfect!

I remember that post, Paul, because it was the one that got me to purchase mine. So belated 'awesome poster!' to you and many thanks for sharing! thumbup

Yeah, and I've always wondered what that does, if anything, for scarcity / collectibility. Another notable poster was the RotJ:SE. Anyone think it matters? Guessing probably not, since it's just a date. Now if the artwork was drastically different, then there might be something.
-
Mike, great posters! Love that Pixels!! And the one with the Dino...and Overboard...and Monsters...and LoTr...! What a summer feast ;)
-
Well as I never promised Fallen...and Mike loves his new stuff. ;)

I don't know....
You can have your Pulp Fiction Lucky Strikes, DS Donnie Darkos, overpriced Mondos and the like... but that Chantrell Dracula Sucks quad is easily the BEST FREAKIN' POSTER I have EVER seen on this forum!

Thanks, Rosa!
Nice Paul! Thanks for sharing. Debated between the quad and one sheet for Pixels, and since I couldn't find anything to bulk up with for the shipping, went with the one sheet.
Also like that nudie. Those little Minion butts are so cute. ;D
I won't argue with you, Ted, because we both like the modern Kong stuff, and because that is an awesome poster. <3 thumbup <3

A couple times now when I get a poster in the mail and I see a nice sturdy tube from Yazoo(I think to myself finally "someone used a nice tube")well twice now it turned out that it was my tube that I bought from Yazoo and used to mail a poster out in the past. Its like a message in a bottle. One came back 2 years later with my original label under a couple other labels. The other came back about a year later.

Wow Jason you make it seem so romantic maybe I'll go by my neighbour's lawnmower later... (Used to be mine)

Interesting fact: That last scene where she is dancing in front of the judges, where she spins on her back on the floor, that is a stunt double... a man!

Great piece of trivia, Steve!! Always great to read about. thumbsup.gif
To add to Steve's post, that male stunt double was Richard Colón, aka Crazy Legs. (French dancer Marine Jahan did much of Beals' other dance work).

Added this great Thai poster for Escape From New York to my site (http://www.filmonpaper.com/posters/escape-from-new-york-thailand/) today. It's one of those Thai posters that's slightly larger than the usual size of about 21" x 31" and I've been told that certain films were given this treatment when released in Thailand. Can you shed any more light on this mwright?
First Blood appears to have three posters printed for it, one almost US one sheet size, so some films were given multiple posters too. I was also wondering if anyone knows whether there's a Thai poster for Big Trouble in Little China. I've not seen one yet but I'd find it hard to believe there wasn't one. My big Thai poster want now is the one for The Thing but I gather that's rare as heck.

Yep, that's a great poster! It's awesome to see in person. Some films were painted as 1 sheets and printed larger like your ESCAPE poster (if the economy allowed), but some were also given the 2 sheet treatment. These were painted on 2 boards and printed as 2 separate sheets like many other countries do. They were then put together and displayed as one. When 2 sheet paintings were also printed as 1 sheets, you can see a line in the center of the poster. There was concern here last year a TERMINATOR poster was a repro because of the line (mistaken as a fold) but that's where the 2 paintings come together. APOCALYPSE NOW is interesting because it was painted as 2 sheets and ONLY printed as 2 sheets. The 1 sheet that you occasionally see floating around was created by a collector in Thailand and unfortunately is still being sold by him as an original. There was never a 1 sheet for APOCALYPSE NOW. He was clever and removed the line in Photoshop.
I have not seen one for BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA though it probably exists somewhere. John Carpenter movies were popular in Thailand. Yes THE THING is rare.

The TERMINATOR Pakistan poster used Tongdee's artwork and did not ask for his permission so he didn't get a dime for that poster. The same thing happened for the American poster of John Woo's THE KILLER. They used his artwork for that without permission as well. This probably happens a lot.

The Apocalypse Now is awesome!
I recently purchased this Belgian poster for "Du rififi chez les hommes". It's rare that I purchase a non-Mexican movie poster these days, but I really love this movie:

Anything on this title is beyond scarce. Well done! I think that's more or less the same art as on the French 1p (which I've only seen photos of, never offered for sale).

I saw the French 1p for Rififi on eBay maybe 1-2 years ago. I was tempted but if I recall correctly the seller wanted ~$800 and the poster was in lesser condition. I didn't pursue it since by then I had decided to focus on Mexican posters.
But yeah, it seems to be darn rare and I have never seen the 1p for sale before or since. I am not sure if that specimen ultimately sold on eBay or if the seller just let the listing expire. I don't see a record of a sale on worthpoint.com but I don't think they manage to record every sale.

This one had been on my list for a while: La diosa arrodillada (1947), with art by Eduardo Obregon. I finally snagged it:

As I continue to branch out into more international fare, I realized that I had nary an Egyptian poster in my stash.
So, I went a-hunting at The Movie Poster Page, DarvishJo's (John/Music Man) website.
There were many to choose from, but then I saw this -- right in my wheelhouse.
I love 80s cheese and I was forced to review this film back when it hit VHS in early 1990.
Its another awful Fred Olen Ray sci-fi thriller, but the bold, fast artwork by Anise (?) spoke to me.
Pictured is Teagan Clive (a female bodybuilder) as the steroid-induced Alienator.
I had to have it.
Here's John's post, complete with the entire film from Youtube (if you dare):
http://www.mopopoc.com/2013/07/alienator-1989-jan-michael-vincent.html (http://www.mopopoc.com/2013/07/alienator-1989-jan-michael-vincent.html)
I contacted John Saturday morning and the poster arrived Monday afternoon. Talk about lightning fast...
Thank you, John for this colorful piece of Egyptian movie poster art!
cheers

I contacted John Saturday morning and the poster arrived Monday afternoon. Talk about lightning fast...
Thank you, John for this colorful piece of Egyptian movie poster art!
cheers
It speaks to me too. It says "I like Ted a lot better than you!"
:D

That's some wacko poster Ted thumbsup.gif
Deke, boobs on 3.5 of 4 of the posters thumbsup.gif
I very much like the first one (La Diosa)
The second one is screwing with my mind... Are those her legs or boobs? Too far for boobs, too close for legs. Or am I going nuts?

Don't overthink it! Those are just some large breasts.
Though it's true the proportions look a bit off. For purposes of comparison, here is Julissa, the actress from the poster:

Alienator...just wow, words fail me.
I hope it will be getting pride of place on your walls. I suggest the vestibule or perhaps the formal dining room.

Nice posters, once again, Deke and Ted!
Good stuff!! thumbup

Ok even though just about no one seems to like the SW I'll admit I like it lol. I kinda feel thats what Harrison pretty much looks like these days. I havent watched any of the trailers yet but ya I agree with Mike this poster is a spoiler for sure. here is a link to the forums discussion of the SW poster. http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,224.msg184000.html#msg184000

Harrison looks like he's about to deliver a 'Get off my lawn, dagnabbit!' tirade...
Terrible poster. Maybe no one will go see the film...
-
Lol I read the same "get off my lawn comment" elsewhere.
-
looks like a video game poster to me.

The left light sabre beam is crooked to the holder it comes out of, Is she holding onto the bed post or shadow, Is her belt over or under the post, Is a worm trying to enter her nose and who's that old codge falling over with the weight of thing in his hand?
Guess I'll have to watch it to find out
Can't wait
BTW the silverfish have been at this poster, maybe find another?

The title of that film is so great. The poster makes it total justice.

I already had a copy of "Que lindo cha cha cha", but I can't resist a good bargain so I got another. In a somewhat bizarre choice by the auctioneer, this poster was in a lot paired with a US WWI propaganda poster. I'll post the propaganda poster in the advertising section. It was a nice bonus.

Good to see that i am not alone when i say: this poster is just not good.

Deke, that Cha Cha poster is sensational.
You've given me newfound appreciation for Mexican posters.
Thank you.
cheers

Que lindo cha cha cha is a great design. I have Mexican lobbies from this film with the same artwork. I think it's one of the most famous Mexican posters out there. Nobody painted like Cabral.
So this one was a surprise find for me...
JABBERWOCKY Thai Movie Poster

I agree. I seriously think this is one of the last films I would have expected to find a Thai poster for. I almost crapped when I saw a Thai movie poster for the film EEGAH!
-
Nice JABBERWOCKY, Mike!
I am a big fan of this title and I thought there was no other paper worth hunting down after the American original and the '82 RR.
You proved me wrong.
That one is great!
cheers

EEGAH! ???? wow, I mean Eegah!

The TERMINATOR Pakistan poster used Tongdee's artwork and did not ask for his permission so he didn't get a dime for that poster. The same thing happened for the American poster of John Woo's THE KILLER. They used his artwork for that without permission as well. This probably happens a lot.
Mine must be a test run as it has no credits...or maybe there's 2 pakistanis ?

That's interesting. Can you post a pic somewhere?

Love that Thai Poster Mike.

A couple on a classic noir that in my experience is next to impossible to find paper on (maybe should have been titled MIA?):

theres a really good aussie remake of this film, from early 70's I think. Only seen it once projected on 16mm.
-
Way to go, Chris.
When you gonna launch the ultimate noir poster site?

Nice pickups, Chris!

Nice Chris. It's funny how you can't turn around without seeing a copy of the film but you can't find paper on it. It's one of my favorite openings of a film.

its funny because the whole movie premise is... A SPOILER, haha (well not really but you know...)

Got a couple nice (already framed) items at a local auction tonight:
* For a Few Dollars More - locandina
* My Fair Lady - 2-Folio
The frame was my main motivation for buying My Fair Lady. My Fair Lady is nice enough, but I intend to put one of my other 2-Folios in the frame.

Nice! I had my eye on that Eastwood but didn't want to deal with shipping it framed. Glad to know they went to a good home!

:) I wondered if any forum members were bidding/watching online. I guess you saw the African Queen 3-sheet too? It was quite impressive in person.
I was tempted and it went for cheap compared to other sales results for that item. And I don't even want to guess how much the 3-sheet custom frame cost! I just decided it was too darn big for me to want to deal with it.

If you weren't willing to deal with the framed 3-sheet in person I'm sure you can imagine the difficulties in trying to ship it! It's too bad as I love the bold red title block and art on the AQ 3-sheet. I'm happy with my UK 1-sheet and Polish, though -- both already framed and on the wall. ;D
Congrats again!

Nice frames (and posters) Deke

I've heard about floating heads, but floating arms are a first for me
This one has it all...floating hand with infamous floating luminous toxin, floating arms strangling a floating head and O'Brien's perpetual floating astonishment

However being on the wagon with nothing new myself to share got me over here... Everything on here is super nice but there were a couple of things here that really, REALLY caught my eye! WOWzer!
