Again sorry for the phone camera. I really need a new cam, a better way to take pics and most importantly a new photographer.
One day Ill do a proper posting of everything I have collected in what is still my first year.
-
Nice posters. They look cool in that format, especially the Casino Royale and Josey Wales.
-
Zorba, I am impressed.
I only have a handful of Belgians and you have me beat with outstanding titles.
I look forward to your next acquisitions.
-
Good, Bad, Ugly is very nice. Colourful like most Belgians.
I am always tempted by Belgians as they would be very easy to store and the graphics are usually superb!
But like many collectors I shy away because of all the problems in determining release dates/reprints etc.
Very few listings that I have seen for sale discuss in any great detail if they are original release or not.
-
I love the art work on Belgian posters. They seem to routinely be superior to their US counterparts (at least the ones I follow). Very nice collection!
-
Thanks guys. This has been a total blast. ;D
As far as I know they are all original release dates except for the G,B U which is a 74 rerelease.
I like them cause they are easy to handle, easy to frame, and easy to store but most importantly, for someone who isnt wealthy, you can afford some otherwise hard to get titles.....Regular working folks love good movie paper too 8)
-
I own (4) Belgian posters at the moment... Once Upon a Time in the West (which was my first poster!), an original 1936 Modern Times (Chaplin) and I recently got Barbarella and Two Mules for Sister Sara. They are fun posters to collect, however, the consistency seems weird. OUATITW is on super glossy stock, while Barbarella is almost matte.... they are both from the same year!
-
Great Bonds!
-
We are now nine strong in the Belgian collection with these three guys.

The last one is special as it has to be the worst freaking linen backing job. :P
Can linen backing be undone? fixed? burned?
I do love the image :)
-
Zorba, what is wrong with that backing job? Very hard to tell from the picture...
-
Zorba, what is wrong with that backing job? Very hard to tell from the picture...
Thats not an easy question as I dont have much experience with it. Really not any as I only have two other jobs to compare it to... but compared to those it feels like it will fall apart on me. I dont know if it makes any sense but it seems like they havent been married...Ofcourse I could be dreaming it.
Also on the top middle they tried fixing the paper loss? and well they missed. It looks slapped on.

Again, I dont know what the hell Im talking about...and I do like the poster ;D

These are my first six Belgians.
It's 5 more than me ;)
I own 1!!!

Not a big fan of Belgian posters, size and graphics. Also, too much writing: the film's title is usually written in 3 different languages.

-
Zorba, it's certainly possible it really is a terrible backing job but it's also possible that the poster is simply backed with little to no restoration...linenbacking does not automatically mean the poster has been restored
-
Can linen backing be undone? fixed? burned?
I have pulled the linen paper off one of mine. It had become slightly separated and looked shabby. The linen paper pulled off easily for that particular poster - not sure if that's true of others.

Yep...I wasnt expecting it to be restored as the C was/is missing from the (C)olumbia in the upper left. Which is why I dont get why that piece is slapped on in the middle there. Which wouldnt bother me much at all if wasnt put on so poorly.
I am probably going to frame it anyway as it is pretty sweet as is. The small size and the backing pretty much make it a done deal.
-
Those are some excellent Belgians (especially the Josey Wales)...6 for 6, I'd say!
-
I have quite a lot of Belgian posters, though you have to be really careful what you buy. It is probably better to see them than buy off the interweb, unless you trust the seller.
-
I am with Thierry here, and am not a giant fan of Belgians for the same reason s he lists. Though I do think that some of the older ones have some very nice graphics and can be had for an affordable price when their counterparts may be untouchable (Lawrence of Arabia for example). I only have one Belgian to my name.
It is for Dawn of the Dead and is an odd one for a Belgian measuring 25x39.

I am pretty sure all nine I have are the real deal. Well, as sure as a person of my limited poster knowledge can be. I know what you are saying though as I would have 109 Belgians if it wasnt for my lack of confidence in their legitamacy.
I usually only buy from "trusted sellers". Though I have on occasions wondered about some of the Japanese, German and British stuff I have bought from some of the "good guys"....Anyone can make a mistake 8)
P.S. I love your Belgians. Great colors.
-
Great images, Zorba. I also really like and appreciate Belgian pieces, too.. The artwork and renditions of actors are superior to those done in other countries and the size is easy to manage, as well. You just have to look carefully to be sure you aren't buying later reissues, which often use(d) the same artwork.

Some Belgians from my collection, I store these in a folder, thats great to flick through, and also for me to take to markets when i have a stall. I love the size, colours, artwork, the size is especially good as I can get cheap frames. Plus they are affordable!

Nice collection of Belgians there, Ari. The art and colors superb.... thumbup

Very Nice Ari - I had no idea you had so many Belgians!

Love the art and colors of Belgian posters. Wonderful collection you have there!

Time to add to the exhibit, Zorba. Bet you have some goodies, too. ;)

I suppose your OUATITW is a early 70s re-release. Does it state CINEMA INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION in the credits ?
There must be a PARAMOUNT release poster, although I never saw it.
I love the belgian posters as well. I have only one frame for them (I switch posters once a year), but I have quite a few, mostly
on the talents I heavily collect like McQueen, Wayne, Western All'Italiana and many more.
Here are all 14 PECKINPAH posters from Belgium. Some I took with me while filming PASSION & POETRY, they are easier to transport (for signing) than 6-sheets :)

Interesting art on the Belgians. Cool new additions there, Z. thumbup
-
Glad they didn't put the tax stamps on the art Z thumbup
-
Very few men could tug O'Hara by the short hairs and get away with it.
Great design and the renderings are spot on.
I wish there was more accessible info on the Belgian poster artists of that era.
If anyone comes across a good site or directory, I hope they post it in this thread.
Gratz on another fine poster, Z.
cheers
-
That is interesting, so they put the tax stamp on first, then, print the cinema at top
