Title: Top 5 - Comedy films.
Post by: Hallucination Generation on June 14, 2012, 07:55:14 AM
This is still hard i know but if you had to take 5 comedy films into space with you forever what would they be?

My 5 are:

1. Tommy Boy
2. Dogma
3. Shaun Of The Dead
4. Loaded Weapon 1
5. Scary Movie

Comedy must be the worst genre besides Musicals.

off the top of my head.
EALING COMEDIES - Cant choose 1 but - (Hue and Cry, Kind Hearts and Coronets,The Magnet. The Lavender Hill Mob,The Man in the White Suit, The Maggie, The Ladykillers)
PILLOW TALK/SEND ME NO FLOWERS/LOVER COME BACK (count as one)
KING PIN (strange but true)
(All) CARRY ON films (if pressed Carry On Camping)
JERRY LEWIS - favourite is NUTTY PROFESSOR.

Comedy works MUCH better as television (or even radio) me thinks.

Hey, I love old musicals.  Stuff it Ari.

OK, my comedy list in no particular order (of stuff that most will overlook)

1. It Happened One Night (Gable, Coulbert)
2. What's Up Doc? (Redford, Streisand)
3. Buck Privates (Abbott&Costello, Andrews Sisters)
4. Desk Set (Tracey, Hepburn)
5. The Philidelphia Story (Grant, Hepburn, Stewart)

But ask me again in an hour, and I'll probably pick a different 5.

Musicals I LOVE American In Paris.
If you call The Wicker Man a musical.

Mostly I don't like them, but its just the songs, if there is edited versions sans music Id like them more.

They used to do that on American TV when they had to edit to fit the timeslot.  Imagine your American in Paris without the finale ballet sequence!

Besides, they still make musicals that people go to and love.  They just learned not to call them musicals anymore.  Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors, Mama Mia, Rent, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, etc...

THOSE you list are the worst, Id take the old ones any day over any of them.
The finale of American in Paris is SO BAD....

I'll admit that I never warmed to American in Paris.  My favorites are Singin in the Rain, Easter Parade, Meet Me in St Louis, The Bandwagon, etc.
Actually, I like many of the newer ones.

yeah as I said its really the music, in the old ones I love the look of them and enjoy the story but I am even fussier with music than films, if I dont LIKE a song, I HATE it.

Plus I never watched them as a kid so there's no nostalgia.

I narrowed it down from just your 5 favourites.
I figured it would be easier but it's not. I've changed my mind already.

I forgot 'In Bruges'

I love everything about Casablanca and have watched it dozens of times, but a few witty lines do not make a comedy, no matter how classic they become.

After all of the build up, I was terribly disappointed with Some Like It Hot, other than the clever last line.  The Apartment was, for me, a far more successful mixture.

I came here for the waters....

Do you ever get trapped in the spelling of a word.  Like a twilight zone moment were your brain goes 'I've never seen that word before'...  I just realized I typed 'Loud' as 'Load'...   But when I was formulating the sentence I had a complete twilight zone moment where my brain told me it was spelled 'load' and then I couldn't even recognize the word.  I then googled it to help - there was a site called 'Load Records'... so instead of continuing to suffer through the brain pain and trance I just went with it.  Now, today, within a millisecond after reading it - oops...
