Title: James Bond Goldfinger US Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Poster RED VARIANT
Post by: PJ on March 10, 2012, 04:58:26 AM
Hi Folks,
I am new to the forum and noticed this poster on ebay but don't know a lot about it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/James-Bond-Goldfinger-US-Alamo-Drafthouse-Cinema-Poster-RED-VARIANT-No-5-of-10-/260973839212?pt=UK_DVD_Film_TV_Film_Memorabilia_LE&hash=item3cc340c36c

I saw one sold last year for nearly $3000 at an auction in England - can anyone tell me why its so expensive and what makes it so desirable?

thanks guys (and gals)

Welcome to the Forum.

The more common gold version (a print run of 300) became high profile when one sold for £2600 (hammer price) at Christies a few years ago. The auctoneers had heavily promoted the lot and the poster was displayed in their high street window prior to sale. It is one of the best prints to have been released from Alamo (original cost: $20) and when you have one in hand you see the incredible detail and quality in the image. Of course, it helps that it is a popular film and that there is a cross-over collectors market. It typically sells in the $600 - $800 range.

At the time relatively few people realised that there was a much rarer red variant (a signed print run of just 10) which had been available directly from the artist.  It is simply a matter of supply and demand that this version sells for more.

welcome1 to APF, PJ.
What is your area of collecting and, do you have your collection online?
If you take the plunge for that GOLDFINGER variant, we want to see pictures.

Boys, looks like you've been punked.  "PJ" comes out of the blue and doesn't introduce himself.  He uses a moronic, obviously manufactured email address like "peterjackson4eva@hotmail.com."  Adam's poster is one of bazillions on Ebay and "PJ" just happens to mention it?  This forum is getting as infested with fake identities as NS4.....

It's fucking ridiculous, and I've just moved the thread here.  I'd rather leave it around and have folks have fun with it than delete the thing.  I do agree with Thierry, though.  Really?  Adam?  Really?

It's an awesome poster, though.

Forgot the "." nimrod.  ;)  Although, I sure as hell have noticed I can't write lately; forgetting letters, replacing words, bad sentence structures, etc.  I hate it.  I am going to blame it on George Bush and Rick Perry.

Folks,

I am not this Adam - who is he, tell me about him and why would I want to be him?

peterjackson4eva@hotmail.com

I joined because I thought it would be a bit of fun. Then I saw a poster I hadn't seen before on ebay.com and thought a bit of help was in order as I like it and was/am considering making an offer for it.

Instead, I'm accused of being someone else.

Thank you for a nice welcome

Dear Holiday,

Forgive me, I hardly know any of you except for what I have read.

After my very first post it seems I am someone else according to you and your members - I am amazed at the moronic insults I received from some of
your members. I thought I was joining a group of like minded people interested in posters and hoped to get some help.

You obviously have serious issues - whatever has gone on in the past or present on your forum with the person I am supposed to be is neither my problem nor do I wish to be part of the paranoia.

I joined your group for fun, not to be part of a war/implosion that you all seem to be having - is this how you treat all new members ?

Unbelievable!

Methinks the price on that GOLDFINGER variant wouldn't faze the real Sir Peter Jackson.   He'd buy it without nary a thought, Adam.

Methinks the price on that GOLDFINGER variant wouldn't faze the real Sir Peter Jackson.   He'd buy it without nary a thought, Adam.

The real Peter Jackson is worth at least US $350 million and bought a $100 million plane a couple of years ago (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/news/article.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=10566283).  He's also extremely busy in the middle of 200 day shoot for the Hobbit in New Zealand.  The odds that he would be on this forum and using an infantile email like "peterjackson4eva" are infinitesimally low.

Of course, it is a tragedy that no one will recognize Adam's "validity" to these forums (http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/37682/how-do-you-make-friends-within-this-forum-lol/), as he recently lamented :'(

Of course, as pointed by the members in that thread, who needs somebody whose "priority is mostly to promote your own page and your ebay auctions"? Now he's apparently doing it surreptitiously....

Says the guy who has started several flame wars when I post not-so-secret public auctions, like the Mallams auction, which is prominently labeled "VINTAGE POSTERS FROM THE 1950S AND 1960S" (http://mallams.co.uk/) and has 250+ film posters for sale? Despite knowing that such posts are 100% permissible here?

"I can't hang out there" is in the present tense and obviously a joke. I haven't posted there in at least a year.  That's a post from a year and a half ago that started the 10+ Adam wars we've had on this forum, which I'm sure we'd all enjoy rehashing yet again.

By the way the owner of that forum 100% backed me on that and TO THIS DATE continues to press Adam to prove his ownership and possession of that Goldfinger poster (http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/35260/fs-very-rare-alamo-drafthouse-rolling-roadshow-goldfinger-poster/page/2/).  (For what it's worth, I personally have no doubts he owns this and is legitimately selling it.  That question has been settled for over a year.)

You are right Mel, it is 100% permissible to be disrespectful to other members on this forum... whether by posting auctions that others are bidding on or by starting personal wars against specific members.  I'm just asking you not to be and calling you out when you are...

Well Folks,
It’s time to come clean.

It was me who set up the false Peter Jackson account - Not Adam.

Whilst some of you have spent the last few days vilifying an innocent man you have missed the whole point.

The site is not safe.

Holiday, you were hoodwinked and I did it very easily and apologise for deceiving you

I do, however, have some questions for Mel.
1 - How many poster images that you have uploaded are actually your own?
2 - And how many have you 'borrowed'?
3 - have you ever tried to remove watermarks from images and pass the images off, or give the impression, they are your own on here or on any other web site?
4 – if you have why don’t you accredit the person whose images you borrow on your site?
5 - why, when you were in England, did you not take up Adams long standing offer to visit with him?
6- why did you want Adam to up load higher resolution images?
7- Was it because you wanted to put them on your own site?
8 – Of course most of us know he has up loaded some James Bond poster images that have either never been seen for years or not seen at all. Why did you not just ask him for the images instead of trying to pick a fight?
9 - It seems to me you are seriously jealous of the guy and how successful his site is - just let us all know how many page views your sites get a month?
10 - Are you trying to take over the forum with all your threads?
11- why do you not address people in a fit and proper manner when you are pulled for being wrong?

It seems to me Adam wears his heart on his sleeve and, although not perfect, he uploaded some fabulous images for everyone to see. I am not surprised he has watermarks on some of the images I would do the same if I had such a superb collection.

Now,
for the avoidance of any doubt. I am not Adam.

I have watched some of you character assassinate an innocent person for a long, long, time so I make this offer to you all.

I will meet any member of this forum if he or she wants to visit me at my home.
No bullshit
Come up and see me sometime – especially you Mel – I really do look forward to meeting a real bully!

Holiday, you were hoodwinked and I did it very easily and apologise for deceiving you

I don't filter account applicants to see if they are worthy or anything.  I do it only to avoid having spambot register.  Just so we're clear.

Now, as for the rest of what you're trying to prove, the only thing you've proven is that you're a douchebag.  Really.  Get a fcuking life, dude.

Yawn. I'm guessing you're probably Adam's father. Am I right?

Whoever you are, I suggest you educate yourself on copyright issues (http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,3830.0.html). None of your questions have any legal relevance - or even make much sense.

I'm going to go into some detail here because there is quite a bit of confusion on this subject.

No collector has ever or could ever legally "own" a digital image of a copyrighted poster. The whole notion of "stealing" or "illegally modifying" someone else's digital image of a copyrighted movie poster is ridiculous. The studios exclusively own and control those images.  Everyone else is TOTALLY irrelevant for copyright purposes.

When you buy a poster, you have exactly one right: To hang it on your wall.  You do not have the right to photograph it, you do not have the right to post a picture of it - either your own image or someone else's - on the Internet, and you most certainly do not have the right to "donate" it to a site like Bondposters.com. Unless "fair use" applies, you must get the studio's permission to post an image of a copyrighted poster.

I own 1,200 posters, most of which are still subject to copyright.  However, under US copyright law I have ZERO right to post digital images of them - mine or anybody else's - or any other poster I don't own EXCEPT as permitted by fair use on this forum or on educational sites like MoviePosterCollectors.com.

That said, I've certainly never "borrowed" any of Adam's images, including his images of "his" three rare posters (the Goldfinger subway and the advance quads for a couple of others.) First, because the physical posters are extraordinarily rare, I agree that he has a "moral" right to exclusive use of digital images of them, although he certainly has no legal rights to them.  Second, those images suck anyway. 500 pixels with "Bondposters.com" plastered all over it?  Really? They're totally stone age and I'm not the only one to think that. The new iPad is 2048 pixels by 1536 pixels. Anything less than 1,000 pixels is practically microscopic nowadays. He needs to scrap his existing pictures and get rid of his cheesy and embarrassing advertising on Bondposters.com, which otherwise is a pretty good site.

I don't recall any invite to visit him in England.  He's probably not a bad bloke offline.

The rest of the questions are not even worth answering.

"Please do what I dictate and do not do what I personally deem 'disrespectful' notwithstanding (1) the existing rules of the forum, (2) the fact that I've repeatedly failed to get the owners of the forum to change the rules, and (3) the fact that opinion is split almost exactly 50/50 on the issue."

You said it yourself Mel, approximately 50% of the people on this forum would like you to be courteous and think twice if your posts might impact other peoples bids for auctions in process.

And I feel free to look back through the threads... you won't find any posts from me asking that the rules be changed or for any threads to be shut down.

No, no, no...  This is funny.  I had a great time reading it.  Pathetic for sure, but still funny.  And Mel getting all defensive about it.  Why do you even need to explain yourself to whoever the dude is?  I'm assuming it's Adam's father coming to the rescue of his sweet little innocent boy.

So Bondbaby is located in Durham, which is right next to Newcastle Upon Tyne, where I believe Adam is from, which is 11 miles away from Sunderland where Bondposters IP is located.  According to Wikipedia, Durham lies to the south of Newcastle upon Tyne, Chester-le-Street and Sunderland and to the north of Darlington.  Never been there, from looking at the depressing pictures, do not intend to ever go there, but one thing is for sure...

Hey, we can't have this, I live about 30 miles from Adam, and there is some fantastic places in the North East with some amazing scenery. Like most places around the world there's some areas that are not quite the ticket, but to say somewhere looks depressing without even knowing what your talking about is plain wrong. Durham on the whole is a very nice city, Small as far as cities go but it's out in the British country-side, and has lovely views all round.

I'd love to know what photo's you've seen of the area, to give you that impression...

Three and a half hours by train. Newcastle has a unique character - you have to experience the crazy nightlife just once. Durham is about 15 miles away and is actually a beautiful, historic city well worth visiting. Forget about Sunderland.

Spot on Mark.

I found this description on line which just about sums up Durham and Newcastle.

Durham Cathedral is the greatest Norman building in England, perhaps even in Europe. It is cherished not only for its architecture but also for its incomparable setting. For this reason it was inscribed together with the Castle as one of Britain's first World Heritage Sites. In a nationwide BBC poll held in 2001 it was voted the nation's best-loved building. Like Hadrian's Wall and the Angel of the North, it is an icon of north-east England, its image is instantly recognisable to people who love this part of Britain.

And the night life - its buzzing!

And Newcastle?

Newcastle is a vibrant friendly city, with a heritage spanning the past 2,000 years. Situated in the north east of England, on the banks of the River Tyne and surrounded by the scenic beauty of Northumbria. An ideal place from which to tour the heritage coastline, with its unspoiled sandy beaches and sand dunes, or explore inland where you will find Hadrian's Wall and many castles dotted across the landscape.

The Romans built the first bridge over the River Tyne, guarded by a fort on Hadrian's Wall and named it Pons Aelius. Realising the strategic importance of the Roman site, the Normans built a wooden fort and the first 'New Castle' was created in 1080. This was later replaced in stone, the existing Keep, one of the finest examples of Norman military architecture, dates from 1172-77, the Black Gate from 1247. The Town Walls were built in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Today's visitor will find Newcastle brimming with attractions old and new, a few of the highlights are; Earl Grey's Monument, St. Nicholas Cathedral, the Castle Keep, Bessie Surtees' House, and Blackfriars. If you feel like a break from sightseeing take time for a stroll in the beautiful park Jesmond Dean in the heart of the city.

and Sunderland?

Nothing.

The internet never ceases to amaze me.  Good to see bondbaby is contributing something positive to this joint.  Who would've imagined that after his first couple posts?

A scenario I'm reminded of is the internet star Jessi Slaughter.  Basically a girl offends a lot of people (in various ways) and then says “you guys don’t even phase me.”  The next video of her shows her crying, saying how all those people ruined her life, while her dad is yelling in the background a la WWE, and he coins a few epic lines in the video.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejGGwq4qTmE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejGGwq4qTmE)

Not to say the never ending saga of Adz is exactly like the Jessi Slaughter dealio, because I don't think Adam was harassed (although he may have perceived it that way).

The internet sure is a unique place.  Sorry to interrupt the digression of this thread.

We are a good lot.  Adam just needs to take a pill, though he's needed to take that pill for a few years now.  I would love to see him post a nice phrase like "FUCK YOU ALL, AND ESPECIALLY MEL AND THIERRY!"  Then, we would all cheer, slap his cyber-back, and say FINALLY!  Welcome to the show!
