Title: My movie poster man cave/bar
Post by: CJ138 on November 09, 2011, 01:07:48 PM
I figured I would post a few pictures of my man cave (which is an ongoing project).  I still have some painting to do and plenty more frames to buy.  My camera is not the best and my picture taking skills are lacking but here is goes..

Jeezum crow, Conor, you have some kick-ass posters going up on the walls.
NOES quad and SILENT NIGHT 1sheet are just two of the many you have that are on my want list.
Can't wait to see the project completed.

Man, I love your collection. Re-Animator is near the top of my wish list. I can't wait to see the cave finished. What else do you plan on framing?

Nice work man!

I love to see man caves.  Very nice, CJ, and spacious too.  That much space in my neighborhood would cost millions of $$$.  I'm jealous.

That will be a great room to watch movies in if you do decide to make it into a home theater.

Thanks guys! I plan on framing some larger posters one subway and a french one panel.  APF members are welcome in mi casa (it is safe to invite internet friends over right?).  I will probably do a short walk through video when it is complete because of the angles.  I would like to put a projector down there but I am unsure how it would fit with the bar.  I will be adding updated pics and such as things progress.
Thanks again for the positive feedback!

Super nice cave man!  I am so jealous... I told my wife she should add a second story to the detached garage at our new house for a poster room.  She rolled her eyes but then said "I wonder if the foundation would support it?"  Keeping my hopes up to have a cave like yours...

Put some more stuff up. Slow going.

I could not fit posters in this space so I made it my autographs/photo area
(http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj147/cjwash/IMG_5022.jpg)
These are non theatrical posters.  The TCM is a Media video release, the Friday the 13th 3 is for the soundtrack, the hellraiser was for the comic book.  Lastly, the Evil Dead is (sadly) a reprint only purchased because I was in a pinch to get something signed by Bruce Campbell.

HAHA! The two year old LOVES it. The Creepshow quad scares her a little.  The four year old refuses to go down there all together.  I am planning on hanging a retractable screen between the bar and wall here.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/63400243@N03/6328903183/
Not sure how it will work out.  It is about fourteen feet back to the wall where I took the photo from.
Hopefully, I can get a good theater experience but have the screen go back up and open the room again.
High hopes but currently empty pockets!

HAHA! Actually, rather than a sheet I bought thick spandex. 3 yards of black and 3 yards of white.  The black behind the white really stops the transparency issue.  I stretched it over the and clipped it down with big binder clips.  I am really happy with the picture quality and managed to put it all together for about $100.  Eventually i would like to get a motorized screen to drop down but this will do for now.

Matt, the projector is mounted and everything is operational.  I have been watching trailers thorugh my Apple TV and cannot get over the quality of the picture.  I will try and take a few pictures.  Thanks for all your advice!

Thanks for the interest! So, I have actually tried to make the basement a little more "family friendly" since I have 3 kids 8 years old and under.  The French NOES 3 was a pretty big deterrent for them so I switched it out with a Goonies.  I do not think I posted pictures previously of the Return of the Living Dead giclée I have which is signed by Graham Humphries (who is a great guy) and next to it is a ROTLD Tarman print signed by William Stout.  I have not purchased new frames in a while and thinned out my collection a bit. Bummer.  I do still have quite a few posters to frame and hang and am motivated to do so.  I picked up the hobby of restoring/building arcade cabinets and have a few, which take away from wall space, but the kids love.

Cj, between the posters AND the arcade games, you have THE setup. I'd be lost all day down there, between poster viewing and playing the games.

Looks like a very fun and "familied" room!

What is the "More Brains" poster to the the right of your signed giclee?

That is a nice little entertainment room! Bravo!

I do have a question, where did you get Fix it Felix? I didn't realize, with the exception of the few made in conjunction with the movie, that these even existed?!?!?  I have seen some custom mock ups, and know a place to get reworked source code for it....do you build and restore arcades?

Outstanding.  clap

Similar to posters, the nostalgia of those old school games in their original cabinets is epic.  And the projector, bar, etc. really make that a rad space.  Nice work.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Gingerman - Yes, I do build and restore arcade cabinets as another hobby. I am finishing up a mini virtual pinball machine at the moment.  The Fix It Felix was a beat up COMPLETELY empty donkey kong cabinet I did a little bondo work on, re-painted and applied the FIFJR art to. The kids LOVE it. BTW, I would like to paint the walls darker, but could not decide on a color and was anxious to hang posters...

A little bit. I am trying to learn, but it is not something I am very comfortable with. I have been able to trouble shoot and solder and fix some things.  I have only purchased empty or broken games...I would like to fixt some old CRT monitors, but man, they pack a high voltage and I am just not comfortable. Two things I am too scared to do DIY is electricity and plumbing.

So is it just a display item then? Or?

I have rebuilt a couple in my days. I have only worked on Jamma style arcades. Talk about a nightmare to rewire the deck on a fighter game like Street Fighter....with 6 buttons 2 player buttons and 2 joysticks! I have a few motherboards tucked away. I want to build 2 machines one vert one horiz with selector switches for multiple games. I have a few 10 way jamma straps....and a family member who does arcades/pinball everyday!

I do like the idea of darker walls! If you ever get around to it even just a grey would change it up. Love the arcades! Well done!
