Seeing as this thread is in our movie Movie Talk forum, why don't we post trailers and/or poster art to highlight each horror film we watched this month.
I'm gonna start October watching 'horror' films that I've not seen before and wrap up the big day with my favorite classics.
Last night was PRIMAL (2010).
I thought it sucked. puke

I just streamed THE DEVIL'S PASS (The Dyatlov Pass Incident) from 2013.
Its interesting and has its moments, but not enough for me to recommend.

Watched this crazy Japanese horror film from 1960 last night... what a trippy flick and such amazing cinematography! And these posters -- wow. Like a cross between Bosch and Dante!
Jigoku Japanese B2

Insane film batshit insane. The posters are incredible.

Insane film batshit insane.
Yes, definitely crazy. It seemed almost like an experimental, avant-garde stage play at times. Is a wonderful movie? Not sure I've made up my mind yet. Was it a wonderful experience? Oh yeah.
-
Those are outrageous Matt!
cheers
Last night, I watched SINISTER (2012), with Ethan Hawke. I thought it was pretty good... not great. Some genuinely creepy moments and a fairly original story.
This is the 'red band' trailer.

Such a great flick...one of the best.
I'd love to see what the original (Universal) release trailer looks like.

theres also a remake (?) or another film, same title but 90's (?) or newer, AMAZING.
-
Frankenstein must be destroyed..

From wikipedia: Jigoku was re-made in 1970 by Tatsumi Kumashiro, and later re-made again under the title of Japanese Hell by Teruo Ishii in 1999.
Saw this classic last night for the first time in many years. It was more campy than I remember... but still fun of course!

oh yeah the iishi version is very good.

Saw this one tonight. Ooooof. Haven't watched something that low-budget in a while :o

The poster is very cool, though. The peering, yellowed eyes work SOOO well. thumbsup.gif

I shoulda known by the title that this would be a muddled mess: The Haunting in Connecticut: Ghosts of Georgia.

Gave this another watch last night. Creepy on many levels and Karloff, once again, pulls it off. It has a really good cast, all the way around.

Been visiting the Franky series, done Son of, Ghost of, House of Franky, and House of Drac..
Also (and hadn't watched it in a while). Son of Dracula, on a double with Draculas Daughter....
"There ain't no Rats in Whitby Jail... " ;D
-
Last couple of days, I watched two I haven't seen: The MIST and MIMIC 2.
I thought they were both lame.

Did you watch The Mist in color or black & white?
Had some buddies over last night and went with a classic!

I havent seen this in forever, either, Paul, but my recollection of Chaney Jr as the Count was that he didnt impress me all that much (back then).
Did you find he did OK in the part upon this last viewing? Perhaps it's one I should revisit.
-
Did you watch The Mist in color or black & white?
Color.
Are you insinuating that there are two versions available or that I might've liked it more if I had turned the color off?
I have done that before with The Lady In White (1988) which I prefer in BW.
-
i really liked the Mist, super original, well done, spooky. thumbsup.gif
-
I would give it a re-viewing Jeff, I found I didn't mind it as much as I thought, or maybe it was just so long, it was a refreshing change...
-
Will do, Paul.
I think as a kid, too, when I first saw it that I was hoping that Chaney's Son of Drac would transform into Son of the Wolf Man, when the full moon rose. ;)
-
May have been a better story...
In the last few days, Them, Night of the Demon, Dracula AD 72, Alien, Aliens, and Theatre of Blood.
-
So disillusioned watching stinkers that I haven't seen, that I had to binge on classics for a bit.
Double-billed Frankenstein and Bride one night, then silents (Caligari, Phantom, Unknown) on another.
Then Mad Love (1935) over breakfast.
I feel much better now.
-
Last couple days I've watched these two:
AKA Shock Waves

Ha. I just stumbled on this thread. How fun. I've been watching horror movies all month long (well, when do i ever stop watching horror movies?). Tonight I popped in the direct-to-video, sure-to-suck-bad latest Amityville rip-off, THE AMITYVILLE TERROR. Really. I picked it up used for $5. That will probably be too much. I have hopes it will be better than the last several "Amityville" flicks (AMITYVILLE DEATH HOUSE, AMITYVILLE HAUNTING, AMITYVILLE THEATER, AMITYVILLE ASYLUM, etc.), all of which have been god awful. Here's the trailer for this new one:
http://www.youtube.com/v/S01Em2-vGO0
Hopefully it will put me to sleep.
Good night.
-
If that Amityville doesn't put you to sleep Shawn, check out THE GRUDGE 3.
Its a yawn-inducing mess.

Seven, an the Raven (63) last night for me..

Last night, The Bride of Frankenstein (1935). Cannot go wrong with that one.

The other night, watched Night of the Eagle, with the Haunting.
Last night watched Underworld, Underworld pt2, and Kiss of the Vampire...

Last night, another of my faves - The Exorcist.
"What an excellent day for an exorcism." >:D

Last night, I took in another viewing of Interview With The Vampire (1994). A lavish production, in so many ways, from the sets, to the costumes, photography and beautiful score.

-
I took a chance of jumping on the Cabin Fever train with the 3rd installment -- Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero.
It sucked hind teat.
Made up for that loser by re-watching Cronenberg's 1986 remake of The Fly, which I haven't seen in years.
I was very impressed with how well it has held up.
Still packs one helluva punch.

Man, I've been watching way too much this month...
Yesterday I watched The Shining (the 1997 TV miniseries), which I enjoyed more now then when it first premiered.
Besides, it co-stars Rebecca De Mornay, who I think is just drop-dead gorgeous and very talented.
Then, it was Goke, Body Snatcher From Hell (1968).
It had a few interesting SPFX, but... let's just say if Ed Wood Jr. was Japanese, this is the idiotic mishmash he would've made.
https://www.youtube.com/v/Kh2mvH9QFqY
Then, it was The House that Dripped Blood, starring Christopher Lee and Ingrid Pitt (amongst others) and the Evil Dead remake.
-
Thanks for posting the GOKE: BODY SNATCHER FROM HELL trailer. I've had the poster (combo-ed with BLOODY PIT OF HORROR), but had never seen the movie or really knew anything about it.
NOT a movie---but I just started watching season 1 of ASH VS THE EVIL DEAD, which is a sequel to the original films...if that counts at all.
-
Thanks for posting the GOKE: BODY SNATCHER FROM HELL trailer. I've had the poster (combo-ed with BLOODY PIT OF HORROR), but had never seen the movie or really knew anything about it.
I'd only seen stills from Goke up until last night, not even that trailer.
I wanted to like it but it was a bit too silly and melodramatic at the same time.
Its an odd bird and worth a watch if you're a true psychotronic.
cheers

So, Dracula (58), Elviras Haunted hills, I know but it is Halloweeny. And again couldn't wait any longer, Dance of the Vampires...

Great minds think alike, Paul.
Last night I too watched Dance of the Vampires (aka Fearless Vampire Killers) and I enjoyed it now more than ever before.

The other day I watched something called "THE AMITYVILLE TERROR". While not as god-awful as AMITYVILLE DEATH HOUSE or THE AMITYVILLE HAUNTING, it was still not very good--but watchable. Not long after seeing it, I was made aware of another new Amityville flick called THE AMITYVILLE LEGACY. What a piece of crap. My first clue should have been its availability. It wasn't available anywhere except as an online experience. I hate watching movies online. I needed a DVD. I went on the movie's facebook page and saw a link to buy a copy (and it was autographed. Ooooo. whatever...). I did--but the DVD is just a generic DVD-R without any sort of label. Ha! Just garbage. The acting is awful. The writing and directing even worse. The movie is 70 minutes long with 12 of those minutes being very slow credits at the end. The meat of the movie, those remaining 58 minutes , were some of the LONGEST minutes of my movie watching life. Just bad. BEWARE!
Here's the trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/v/LGPHTzhV5iM
Aside from this, I discovered several other Amityville movies coming our way. EEEK! AMITYVILLE: THE VANISHING and AMITYVILLE: NO ESCAPE are out now. AMITYVILLE: EXORCISM and AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING come out next year. Others announced include AMITYVILLE HIGH, RETURN TO AMITYVILLE, THE AMITYVILLE CREDO, AMITYVILLE: THE BEGINNING, and--believe it or not--THE AMITYVILLE BULLDOZER. Talk about beating a dead horse...

Snowstorm knocked the power out to my cabin in the woods.
Only entertainment I had in the friggin dark was hearing clumps of snow falling on the roof.
What a racket.
Got so loud at times I thought Krampus was wrassling Santa upstairs.
Got me to thinking I should find me a copy of this to watch before Christmas.

No, but it looks like something I would like...
Just re-ran Victor Frankenstein, and Rick Bakers Wolfman...

I've seen that. No surprise, right?

Not at all surprised, Shawn.

-
It wasn't great--but it wasn't horrible. As I recall it was several short stories tied together via William Shatner as a DJ on the radio. Give it a watch...or don't. Krampus is only in it a little bit--NOT the whole movie.
-
Awww.
I was hoping it would be more like WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS.
I'll see if I can stream it anyways.
Thanks, Shawn!

Speaking of Krampus, is the movie Krampus, that came out last year any good? It's one Im curious about but have yet to see.
I picked up the advance OS from Dale last Fall, and if nothing else, I think it is ONE Very cool poster, hands down.

Incredible shrinking Man, not seen it in a while..

Jeff...KRAMPUS was just okay...but I was very disappointed. .
I was expecting more. A sequel is expected soon though.

Thanks, Shawn. So it sounds like maybe it's another case of "The Poster Was Better Than the Movie." thumbsup.gif

I think it's pretty good. It's a kinda scary, fun, wacky Christmas flick.
Cool poster.

At the Tampa Theatre, with a special appearance from the oldest daughter of the family that the movie is based on, Andrea Perron.

I couldnt find an image for it, but last night was another viewing of the 1998 documentary, Universal Horror, directed by Kenneth Brownlow. A friend had burned this onto a DVD a number of years ago when it was broadcast on TCM.

Watched Herk Harvey's Carnival of Souls (1962).

I just got back from seeing BOO! A MEDEA HALLOWEEN with friends. I really liked the posters for it--clever, I thought--but I won't bother buying them. It was my first Medea movie and it wasn't that good (in my opinion)--although I did laugh a time or two.

Watched the first half of this double feature tonight, TALES FROM THE CRYPT. Tomorrow night will be VAULT OF HORROR. Believe it or not, I had NEVER seen these flicks before.

Already watched Frankenstein, just starting on Bride, and hopefully Curse of Frankenstein if I make it...
-
I finished up the Halloween season last night with a watching of the 1925 cut of The Phantom of the Opera (from The Milestone Collection). One of my all time favorites, hands down.

I finished off Halloween with VAULT OF HORROR and then added in HORROR EXPRESS as well.

Color.
Are you insinuating that there are two versions available or that I might've liked it more if I had turned the color off?
I have done that before with The Lady In White (1988) which I prefer in BW.
When I was going back to make up my tally I just saw your response Brude. The film was originally meant to be B&W, but the studios would never allow it. Here it is in Frank's own words... you should definitely check it out.

Interesting.
Unfortunately, the visual nature wasn't my issue with The Mist. It was the writing and acting.
But, if you really want to see a film that should've been shot in B&W, watch Frank LaLoggia's Lady in White (1988), a creepy Halloween ghost story starring young Lukas Haas, and turn the color off. Excellent.

I enjoyed THE MIST,
it felt like a Tele Movie, which is OK with me, I like them.
As a kid I LOVED the story, I read it many times.
And I also had an audio play, on cassette, actors and FX and everything, like listening to a movie (or like a radio play) rather than spoken word.
I was hooked on radio Plays as a kid, and so for a S King fan this was heaven.
I dont read him anymore, stopped when i was 12 and found Poe, Lovecraft etc.
AND I dont like a lot of the films made from his books/stories, but I liked the Mist. Interested to try it in B/W as I had it on my netflix queue already to rewatch.
And Ill check out Lady in White, never seen it, thanks.
