The new year has already blessed me... I hadn't searched for a while, but finally found a unicorn (to me anyways)...

I picked up this pretty funny international 1S for Nurse Betty, even though Bruce tried to ban me for mocking his ads!

People can "ban" themselves, but we only ban them for breaking rules.
Sorry.

Not sure anyone has had more faps directed at them than Raquel Welch. Off the charts hot.
......I need to get that To Catch a Thief at some point. What year is it from?

New year resolution: Check this thread more often. And so far I'm not disappointed. Nice ones, Freefall. I need to get that To Catch a Thief at some point. What year is it from?

I'm not positive, but I think this is the first release poster -- it's basically the same as the re-release posters, but with a greenish-grey background instead of blue and sporting a prominent VistaVision logo in red:

I've been looking for frankensteins army for awhile. Glad I finally have one.
Nice pick-ups Randy, I've had a Frankensteins Army put by for me.. ;D
Here are a few that have arrived over the last couple of days. Sorry for the pics these were taken from my phone.
Last Starfighter is great, classic movie for the time. And yeah sorry for the pics too, probably an iPhone...get a better phone. ;DNope not an iPhone. Droid phone. What pieces of shit they are.
This is the first place I come when I log on. I love to see what others are picking up..

This one I won yesterday.
Yeah, I don't know, I guess I've never really cared to see what other people have (and I assume people don't care about my stuff either, which is why I don't post.) I have more than 2,000 posters in my want list, so I don't really need the extra tease. But I will try it for a while, and if it becomes annoying, I will stay out of it again.
T
It's ok to be both jealous and genuinely happy for folks too, you know. ;)
I am never jealous nor genuinely happy for anyone. It's more about adding more shit to my list.
T
I find it difficult to be happy for or jealous of people I don't know.

Love your website though so yes I care about you 2,000 posters or so !
Happy new year to all.
I am about to receive some more Saint cards which will duly be put up here. That said only because in the UK, the postal service doesn't work on New Year's Day.
Much better then the theatrical poster.

Way to go Mel - Welcome back!
"This post is not intended to harass or defame Mel in any way..."
It gets described as the 1961 re-release - however, I would love to know when the movie was first released in Italy and what the first-release poster looked like.
Mark
Here is the 24 sheet (?)
My point exactly. Now I need to get that. Thanks Ben.

Not expensive at all, seems like an under valued item as they are pretty tough to get your hands on.

Wow Randy, that Strange Brew poster is quite something! Ive got to check that film out now!!
I'm chuffed to have added this scarce UK quad for Dario Argento's Tenebrae to the collection. In a daft moment of UK censorship Renato Casaro's original Italian artwork had a red bow painted over the sliced neck. Check out my site (http://www.filmonpaper.com/posters/tenebrae-quad-uk/) for more details.

You should really check it out, ya hoser.
You should really check it out, ya hoser.Eh. Kind of a cheesy movie but a good laugh. I liked it at least. I think it depends on your taste in films. But I liked it. You should check it out though Rosa.

It is a good movie. I own it and have watched it several times.
Nothing wrong with that movie at all. Especially for those of who watched SCTV back in the day. That show was comedy gold. 8)
WOWOWOW Craig, that Sunset Blvd is....Spectacular! Congrats bed1
I've got a bit of the bus-shelter-itis at the moment, but not as bad as the lenticularitis I've seen 'round here. ;)

Congrats.... I like this poster, too. It's got real energy and isnt the same ol,' same ol.
thumbup
So you dump all your modern posters, tell everybody that they suck and that 3-sheets are the bomb, and then replace them with more modern posters? ???
“Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.”
Now for a much better photo poster, this is a replacement for a poster I traded to Mr. Charles "Pulpfixin" himself.

One of my favorite quotes that I have hanging in my office: “I've always felt that a person's intelligence is directly reflected by the number of conflicting points of view he can entertain simultaneously on the same topic.” - Abigail Adams
So maybe it's just your intelligence shining through Mel... cheers
Follow this analysis, Charles:
Me = poor due to profligate poster spending
Rear Window = classic movie
Rear Window original 1954 illustrated one sheet = $5000+
Rear Window 2000 photo re-release = $43

Blue Is The Warmest Color (2013 US 1S SSR)(alternate style). I ended up shelling out $100 for this one, which has disappeared from Ebay and ain't coming back according to the seller (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blue-Is-The-Warmest-Color-27-X-40-US-Alternate-Theatrical-Poster-/171214062200?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27dd274278). My FAVORITE image of Crawford. Hands down. And unbelievably rare. I'm thinking of getting it paperbacked and cleaned up to look like a proper WC. Do you guys think I should have that star on the lower right that says "This is actual reproduction..." airbrushed out? Not sure what I'm going to do. Like the history and story it tells, but kind of distracts from the art. Hmmmm....

It has been a long time... Since I bought something that truly tickled me and compelled me to post it....
And, you have got to hear the story....
I bought the bloody version from a friend. I will leave it to him to disclose his identify if he so chooses. I don't mind.
I was so excited to get this from him, because it's a pretty damned rare poster -- one of 100 I've recently learned, and who knows where the rest are.
The tube arrived and truly with my heart beating in anticipation, I open the tube and... it ... is ... EMPTY!
I actually turned the tube upside down and shook it in disbelief that I saw NOTHING in it!
Upon closer inspection, someone actually opened the tube, took out the poster, and then RESEALED the tube with completely different post office priority tape that made no effort to match the original tape.
I have never had something like this happen before.
I was sick for a few days. The insurance claim was paid and all that, but I'm a collector... I would have rather had the poster. I did not think I would see it again until it showed up, and the same friend sent me a message letting me know it was available.
This bitch cost me an arm and a leg, plus a nut and a finger, but I was not about to let her get away again.
The other version was just icing on the deal. The same guy had both copies.
Now, I just hope they get here safely!

i had a feeling it was you ted!
At long last love.
This incident soured me from shipping for months.
I was the friend who sold my copy to Holiday, the one that was stolen in transit
I am still sick about it because even though the insurance covered the loss, some thieving bastard that works within the system is still at large. I hope they find him/her soon and we can get the poster back. So far, the USPS investigation hasn't turned up anything.
Congrats on this great poster Holiday.
Please let us know when she arrives.
Rolled versions of this poster are increasingly hard to find. One of my favs for one of my fav childhood movies. A good buy at $330, plus I'm sure the defects can be fixed.

So I expended the remainder of my EMP credit on this ET advance 1S.

Where's the fish?If you haven't seen the movie David you must see it to understand the title. A fish will only grow so big in a fish bowl but you release them into a pond and they will continue to grow. If you haven't seen this you must watch it. It is actually a pretty good movie.
A fish will only grow so big in a fish bowl but you release them into a pond and they will continue to grow.
So what you are saying is if you love a fish then set it free, if it comes back they're yours and then because it is bigger you can catch it and sushi its ass...is that where you are heading with this Randy? Yeah, I know you, more blood and guts... ;)Smart ass lmao ;) Watch the movie David. You will understand the title of the movie if you watch it. It is hard to explain. Love the blood and guts. But I bet you wouldn't believe it if I told you I just purchased a poster that does not involve any horror or blood what so ever.
Yeah, right? I thought about saying that but figured for once I'd leave it be.

and does anyone know if the french harakiri is available as a 60x80cm medium? i think i would like one of those also if they were ever made, but so far i havent seen one, so assume they must be harder to find than the large ones?
this is the art I'm wanting. I have the battle scene poster
Ten Nights In A Bar-Room (1931 US Styles A & B): A lot of these posters from this obscure 1931 film have cropped up lately for some reason but I got these from EMP tonight.I'd love to know the story on these... they have been on ebay, with regularity, for years.

That Godzilla vs Megalon is a wild one, with them fighting on top of the World Trade Center towers. Apparently, none of the scenes were set in New York City, according to a few articles, but it's a cool piece.

Awesome pick-ups, Chris!!
And shown as they actually look, in reality.
Bravo, my good Sir.

Wow! What a nice surprise with a great poster, Chris.
Great posters! You've been holding out on us Chris... where have you been hiding these little beauties? ;)
Someone has been busy. Nice haul Chris!
Somewhere very safe with an awesome, trustworthy anonymous someone ;D
this is the art I'm wanting. I have the battle scene poster

I do love your work Chris, what a feast for the eye's. happy1
In the Dead Reckoning poster I wonder if Miss Scott knows there's a hand on her arm..
or is it another case of the missing arm... ;)
Great stuff Chris. I wonder if the Authorities know that so much of Australia's historical artifacts are being shipped out to Canada :)
Great collection of Aussie paper Chris
It's like a buffet, I don't know what to put on my plate Chris... All I can say is... Damn Boooy! You've been busy... happy1
Nice one. Probably my favorite Halloween poster. It is one of the better ones out there that is for sure. The Thai version isn't to bad.

This just arrived today from grimreaper78larry off of ebay.
Nice... love that creepy-kid artwork! Here is the B1 I found a year or so back with the same image.

LOL, it my post wasn't meant to be a subtle crack of the whip or anything! There is absolutely no hurry on my account cheers
I like the B1 but the B2 has the similiar artwork and leaves more space on the wall lol. But overall they all look great.
Funny Matt. I have a B1 that looks similar to that one. The edges are better and it does not have the crinkling, but its a trifold with one vertical. Needless to say, the black in that poster does not take well to folding.
After I saw yours I had to go out and find one for myself ;DSo you went and found a b2?

Don't they have the exact same artwork?

Great poster, Mel.
Damn straight.
Great batch of posters, Chris.

The Japanese Halloween is one of those posters that screams mint condition. I passed on a couple B1s for that very reason. It is too dark for fold lines and any defects will be greatly amplified. I am still hoping to find a mint B1 at some point. If not, my B2 will do.
T
Happy to help Mike. It is a good looking poster :)
Nice, Mike..
And it looks to have arrived in fine shape, too.
Good for you! thumbup
I am quite pleased to have found a complete set of the wilding posters for Man With the Iron Fist, all in unused condition.

I feel like I'm entering a lion's den with a pork chop around my neck but here goes.
What do you guys see in this poster?
How can you possibly prefer this over the iconic American design or the killer Aussie?
I'd really like to hear your thoughts.
I like them all. Eventually I will have the American and Aussie posters as well. Buying the cheaper ones first lol.
I thought you already had the American and I thought that this Japanese design was much more rare and expensive.I now own the Japanese B2 and the Thai versions of Halloween. Now it is time to work on the American and Aussie.
If its the only paper you have on this film, wear it well man.
cheers

It's hard to pin point what I like about the Japanese poster. If you are only in the mindset of 80s horror and John Carpenter, I will fully admit that the cartoony nature doesn't really fit with the film. However, when viewed in the context of other Japanese horror posters, I think it fits well with the overall style and is a cool interpretation for a western slasher flick. Here is a Japanese horror poster I have from way back in 1951. It's not really directly comparable, I know, but I definitely see similarities in the uniquely-Japanese representation of graphic violence.
Again, it's hard to put it into words, but I like the Japanese Halloween art all the same. And to your other point... I already own a folded US 1-sheet (blue ratings), a rolled US 1-sheet (white ratings), and a folded Aussie 1-sheet all in great unrestored condition. I feel like I have my bases covered :)

Nice one, Mike. thumbup
He's VERY good at that ;)
Matt's a wise man. He does not want a bunch of freaks knocking at his door demanding to see nice paper ;)
Why because of his Howard Hughes-like eccentricities?
Thanks Doc, that explains a lot.
I appreciate the fact that you took the time to respond to my annoying question and have given me a different perspective.
Like I said in an earlier post, the poster experts that form the backbone of this hobby are all members here.
There is no place on the internet like APF for open discussion about styles, preferences and art.

I actually do like a lot some modern posters I've seen here. ..OMG. ..OMG. ..OMG. .did I just say that..OMG OMG. ....OMG. .
Matt, what is this poster for or from?
What's the flicker?
;)
Yotsuya Kaidan (四谷怪談), the story of Oiwa and Tamiya Iemon,[1] is a tale of betrayal, murder and ghostly revenge. Arguably the most famous Japanese ghost story of all time, it has been adapted for film over 30 times, and continues to be an influence on Japanese horror today.
Written in 1825 by Tsuruya Nanboku IV as a kabuki play, the original title was Tōkaidō Yotsuya Kaidan (東海道四谷怪談).[1] It is now generally shortened, and loosely translates as Ghost Story of Yotsuya.[2]
Flicker?
The movie title roughly translates to, "After the war haunted school tournament" and it is one of many film versions of this very popular Japanese ghost story. I mainly bought it because I liked the art and colors, though.
I may not be buying much at the moment, but I'm still getting some of this modern cr... er .. stuff.
Even Ted may like this.. though should have been a full size Kate me thinks..

Its a very cool piece, Matt...and i really like the colors, too.
Flicker -- a word used for some of the first, early films; these days, a shortened form of the word is sometimes used, more as slang - "flick" ;)
Pea has been good to you again.Yes she has. The three above and the a TOD. All very nice. Now if she could find me a Friday the 13th Thai poster lol.
Congrats, Randy.
Nice ET. These rarely pop up anymore. So you know, there are 3 Thai posters... I think the 3rd one was the hardest one to get.Do you have all three T??? Now I gotta track down the other two dammit. ;D

By the way, if you are into Dating the Daybill (which is turning into my other hobby ;))...this is from 1966 NOT 1965 as some may think, the film premiered in Australia in January 1965, I've certainly found no evidence of it premiering 17 December 1965 as listed by IMDb or even in 1965 as listed on other databases.
Yeah OK...I edited it...you can delete this and your comment...feel free to send more booze however. :D

Bella looks more fat?
When did it premier in NZ?
Camera adds 10lbs...
Probably about the same time as Australia (tends to be the case)
Camera adds 10lbs...
Bella looks more fat?
Just saying maybe it debuted in 1965 in NZ (since your daybill appears to be a NZ version) :P
David, why is your version stamped with an A and this one, (image from emovie and also described as a first release), has the "Not Suitable for Children" printed stamp and no A rating? Why and when were 2 versions done? :)
Mine was used in New Zealand for the release there, so that is a NZ rating (albeit the poster was printed in Australia), the other was used in Australia. Same size same poster.
Would the releases have been within weeks of each other? Concurrent? Longer?
It COULD have been printed in Australia, shipped to NZ, stamped in NZ and then posted in an NZ theatre in 1965 before it was used in Oz :)
I believe that is would have been printed in Australia, shipped to NZ and then stamped in NZ. I do not believe it would have be shown in NZ in 1965.
Even though Guy Doleman was in the movie?

T
A couple of splurges from the HA first session today. Didn't really expect to get them but there wasn't much competition and they both came in below the low estimates (which of course are not necessarily accurate):
Attack of the Crab Monsters (Allied Artists, 1957). Three Sheet (41" X 80"): You'll never look at the all-you-can-eat crab special in quite the same way again after seeing this Roger Corman classic about a group of people - including Gilligan's Island star Russell Johnson - stranded on a sinking island, menaced by giant, atomically-mutated crabs. This poster is one of the most sought after by sci-fi fans and B cinema fans alike. Would you believe that Jack Nicholson was one of the guys in the crab suit? The highly elusive three sheet format is offered here, only the second time Heritage has presented the poster. With similar artwork to the one sheet, this large format poster is a sight to behold. It's looking terrific after airbrushing to the borders and touchup to a tear in the right border/arm of the crab, tear in the left border into the lettering, edge wear with small tears, pinholes in the corners and background, and fold wear with small chips (one in Pamela Duncan's leg). Don't miss this extremely rare chance to own one of the best posters of the 1950s sci-fi genre. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
As you can see it looks great in the large format (compared to 1S):

Nude on the Moon (J.E.R. Pictures, 1961). One Sheet (27" X 41"): Doris Wishman, infamous female exploitation director, produced a string of the campiest and bawdiest sexploitation classics ever filmed. With limited distribution, low poster print runs, and a heavy usage schedule along the drive-in and fourth rung film houses, the attrition rate of posters for her titles was always high. Surviving posters are often well worn, but this example has survived quite well. Faint wrinkling and a smudge at the bottom right are the only notable imperfections. From Wishman's second feature, this one sheet features the "Moon Goddess" running a nudist camp on the moon! Folded, Very Fine+.

OK I blew all my EMP credit to get these three:
Maciste Against The Kidnappers (1920s US 1S): Great poster, very limited info about this movie is available:

suspect this is a later rerelease although it's certainly within the realm of possibility that it was retitled in one of the sub-territories. It was reported that Raver ordered "two hundred tons" of poster from The Riverside Press for the first release, and this is obviously not from that order. A great poster regardless that was on my watch list (ya bastid), a poor man's Spies.
Thanks for the info Peter. We will add it for the next time we auction this (maybe when Mel wearies of it?).

Unpleasant with Gina Lollobrigida??? Are you fucking kidding me???
I'll start then. I know, very unusual. Here are a few things I bought in the last couple of months but only received recently (yes, extremely stingy when it comes to shipping). I am especially proud of the Rear Window.

I have my own poster website which I update regularly and always thought it'd be redundant to post my new gear on this forum. I also buy more than 1,000 posters a year, new, old, whatever, and believed (as i still do) that no one should be subjected to this much crap from anyone. But I've been asked repeatedly by a few forum members to post some of it, that it would be good for the forum, fodder for conversation, blah blah blah.
I know a lot of you guys don't care for posters in foreign languages, but it is what I like most, so be ready.

Very cool! What size is it? I knew that there was a foil poster for the original release, but I didn't realize that there was one for the re-release.
Question. I have seen posters referred to as foil some places and Mylar in others. Is there a difference? Or are they interchangeable in most cases?
Jason and I were talking about this one the other day. We believe it is the 78' re-release. I believe it measures 27x40 somewhere in that ballpark. It is a cool looking foil though that is for sure.

Jason,
is the color of your THX foil, basically a shiny silver background, with black, to create the titles, credit text and facial image in the center?

Was it folded on the left & right sides? What are those small, white marks from? Any idea? And those should be easy to fix, if u ever decide you want to. ;)
Right on Randy.
Look forward to the update, once you receive it. ;)
UPDATE:
Looks like it was folded to long. and kind of stuck along those edges.
Thanks for the update, Randy. You mean those areas stuck to themselves (when folded) and sort of pulled the printed layer away in those small spots? I wonder if moisture played a part? as something would have had to cause the paper to stick to each other like that, when folded.I am wondering the same thing. But it doesn't really bother me as it does not affect the main image. So overall I am happy with it and I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for it.

It looks mighty fine, Randy. And those small areas could be easily retouched, should you ever decide you wanted to have that done, too.Never it gives it character and adds to the history of the poster. I will keep as is.
Again, congrats on the acquisition! clap
This is actually my 2nd copy of the same Italian poster. La Mariée était en noir is one of my favorite Truffaut movies.
I like the variations of the same design...

Finally "caved" and scooped this one up. piratemel "Goonies never say die!"
Its roughly 6 US One sheets wide and 3 tall.
well I will figure something clever to do with it. I used a Billboard sized poster made of vinyl that became very useful to magically remove the snow from my driveway this past winter.Les Goonies lmao ;D
so maybe hang gliding this spring ala Goonies
all the love for the gigantic French poster, I may have to try to shoot the Pulp Fiction 8 sheet
I have a US 30-sheet for the '76 Kong
Is Kong holding the plane or the big turd they made him hold on the US posters?
I have no idea
never had a place I could open it up and lay it out
for all I know it could be a Pretty Woman billboard and the guy who sold it to me was lying
Congrats, Randy... clapThe hunt is the thrill of the hobby. I think that is part of the reason many of us are in this damn expensive hobby. Its a thrill ride. You never know what you will find from day to day.

The hunt is over for this one. After a few years of looking I finally have one. Thanks to all that tried to help me find one. Especially Ari, Pea, and Mike. This is the sellers photo. I will take one when it arrives. If it wasn't for Mike emailing me about this piece I may have missed it. Thanks buddy. But so glad I have it in my collection now.

Thats who took my poster! So you were the one bidding against my lady at the end? She got it for me as a graduation gift since I am finishing up my Masters Degree.

I forgot about the comforter thing. I normally use Veronica Lake material for that.
I suspect the story was something like this - Poster consigned -> Poster listed for auction -> Michael bid a boatload of $$$ -> Michael won! -> Michael took the bus to pick up Bruce's big ass, double tubed packaging -> Michael got home, opened the package and successfully fought the urge to turn Barbarella into an Ari-inspired comforter (so far anyways!)
Dayum. What's the story on that?
Such a great poster.
I love the background, but the whole 'who's that knocking on my back door' expression on Fonda's face is a bit off...

The quality on the Metropolis print looks pretty decent actually
The artist definitely gave it his own interpretation. For me I am fine with it. To be honest with the exception of the overly long neck I personally kind of like the print version a little better.

Pretty stoked that this one arrived today, from A24. 8) thumbup Their packaging definitely has room for improvement. They basically just stuck in it a tube, with two sheets of crumpled paper (and left about 5 inches of slosh room), which caused several big dings on the edges and corners, and they never replied to my email or sent tracking info. The good news is that it's legit, double-sided, the price isn't bad, and I dig the art and the movie. 8)

I honestly don't care whether it's iconic or not, I don't care whether it's a must have or not, I don't care whether you think it's a must have or not (with all due respect, of course), I don't care if it's cheap or expensive, rare or common, the only thing I care about is whether it is pleasing to my eyes or not. And in this particular case, it is not. But a completist point of view, I still might have to get it at some point.

I'll take Rear Window, North by Northwest, Psycho, and Strangers on a Train over it any day.
Both those Hitch one sheets are downright iconic, and must haves in any serious collection.
Shadow of a Doubt remains my favorite Hitchcock flick. Then Rear Window, Psycho, North by Northwest and Vertigo. Notorious and Rebecca too.

Is this your best Mel impression Ben?
Shadow was also Hitchcock's personal favorite of his.
Yeah, she's awesome.
Sounds ridiculous, but I never finished watching it. I have the blu ray set, so will have to put it back in pronto.

You actually played a role in me getting that poster. Last year you posted a picture of one on this forum. I didn’t get the one you posted about, but spent the past year looking for one. I finally found one two weeks ago.

Good stuff Jason, that Primer quad is cool (and not very common I think). Regarding The Quiet Ones...a few people have noticed a similarity with this Mondo poster for Dracula. I wonder if it was a bit of an influence on the designer:

This said, I'm actually quite surprised that this one got so little traction. It is, IMO, one of the best, if not the best poster posted on this forum in as long as I can remember.

Haha... Nice batch there. Although my focus is usually on bus stops you cannot get as one sheets. I try not to get the same design twice. Sometimes I will get one of the same design because it's available, but I usually try to stay away from them.well poop! I got more work to do then. I guess it doesn't count if I don't have the one sheet and just the bus shelter. drats

I think Jason is getting worse. He's progressed to lenticu-shelteritis. I will pray for him.lol ya I have suffered from lentic-shelteritis in the past with the damn bus shelter lenticulars, luckily this was a less expensive flare up.

Thanks all for the kind words on the Kong shelters. The pictures don't do them justice.
If only the movie was 10% as good as the posters...
T
Nice Jay. Glad you're getting over your severe case of "lentic-shelter-itis."
The main thing for me is that Kong is supposed to LOVE his island. He's a GOD on the island. So when he's taken away to NYC and dies, you feel like he got duped and feel sorry for him. In Jackson's version, his island is so horrendous that you feel happy he's going to NYC. And when he dies, he dies in a better place with the woman he fell in love with.

Sorry i finally managed to add a picture... still need to get the hang of that
Comes from Ebay. Its in great shape although you can tell the bottom third has an extra fold.
I can't find a record of this ever selling - hence I'm wondering how I would attribute a dollar amount to it?
I put it in this section because it was a June pick-up. Well i received it in June anyways.
I thought that 3 sheets from his time-period were more valuable? I already know what Bruce will say..."send it to me and EMP and we will find out how much someone is willing to pay for it!" ;) Gotta love The Bruce.
As a rule of thumb, one Sheets are the most popular size, therefore would command the best price, what ever the time period.
Your 3Sht has nicer art-work, so in my book would sell for more than the text only 1shts, but old doesn't mean more expensive. Looks like my
Guestimate may have been a bit high, I should stick to the British stuff... ;)
At the end of the day, one should only collect what one likes. Money should be secondary, it's nice to know what something could be worth, but getting it....
Why?

You morons gave the same 3rd grade responses when I suggested a "Genres" sub-forum. Now, the fracking sub-forum is flourishing. This thread isn't "latest ramblings", it's "latest acquisitions".
Its fun to comment on others recent poster acquisitions.
@Mike That stock photo sure is in nice condition :)

Nice. Is that Lost Boys rolled?
Thanks, will do. I would not mind a folded or even lightly damaged NOES quad and then back it if need be.I have been on the lookout for a NOES quad for awhile now. Then when they pop up for sale funds are tight. One day I will have one.

The seller has the dimensions as 90x60 cm so roughly 36x26 inches right in that ballpark.
You are correct! One of the few I still need.It wasn't cheap in my eyes either. I paid $100 and that is with shipping from Poland. Did you ever find the re-release quads from 2006 Dale?
Nice Kong there, too Randy. How tall is that? 48" or so?The frame measures 35"x 59" hard to tell exactly what the poster measures as it has been professionally framed.
I like your frame, too.
The Kong is a great substitute for an unattainable originalIndeed it is. The price including the frame wasn't to bad either.

If you see another please ping me, I like the image and certainly unique. No dice on the rerelease quads, I am not sure they exist. Supposedly back around then someone on the Elm St forum claimed to have a set.I seen the Never Sleep Again poster awhile back. I didn't have the funds to pick it up. Wish I would have. I will keep my eyes peeled for you Dale on another NOES Polish.
Another I really want is Never Sleep Again 27x40, I believe there was a give away of a few of these, cant find that one in that size either.
I think Dale will be jealous of this one.

A Million Ways to Die in the West is pretty darn good, and Ms. Theron is excellent in it. A cool character poster, IMO.

You have way too many posters, young man.
I break out in a sweat every time I go to your website.
That FRWL looks great there. Good eye.
Last but not least from this recent roundup, Summer Rental (1985). It's a classic, and it was filmed right down the road from me.

Pretty happy about these recent wins.
The Blob (1988). This movie freaked me out when I saw it back in the day, and this one sheet has a crazy image.

Nice Suburbia, Schan. thumbup I was watching the two that sold recently on eBay. It's a cool design.
Looks like only "that area" was adjusted, and just the opacity at that.

I'll take Eva any way
She has already been spoken for. Move along. ;)
Hi guys...
Just today i found this, what seems to be the Russian poster for the Hollywood classic:Noah (1928) - the poster states that its a 3D version of the movie - i think it was printed in the '30s. Since i am not really expert in this era, i am curious about your opinion... what do you think about its value?
(Sorry for the bad photo quality)
Thanks!
Was 3D even remotely possible in the 30s? I thought began in the 50s?
Just wondering, is there an Eva green son city poster with the less opacity?
A very cool looking poster there, stripe. Older paper like this is always so great to see and look at up close, too. What part of the text indicates it is the 3D version? cool1
Jeff,
Just realized that i misunderstood a part of the text - and also the poster's 2 basic colors are blue and red what even made me think subconsciously that its a 3d version. so its NOT. :D

It is the US one sheet. I have had it on my list for many years but could never bring myself to buy it because every time I look at it it reminds me of a departed friend who used to work with TVR at the 14 hours of Le Mans. As they say time heals all wounds.

I just realized that I had a typo and put in 14 rather than 24 for the 24 hours of Le Mans. This by itself is not surprising but I was not belittled or made fun of in any way at all for it. Is there a member of the forum missing?
Guys, the former member who I assume you speak of is, of course, not here to defend himself. Play fare. ;)

If the answer is no then its all fair. Dont you think?
given that I'm moving most of my stuff along.
Thanks, Jeff and Rosa.
Jeff, it's about 14"x24". The crumpled left corner is due to the seller's bad packaging. There are also several pinholes, creases, it was folded, and slight yellowing. This version is the only one I've seen in about 4 years of looking around, I assume it's probably pretty darn rare, and I don't expect to see another in better condition any time soon, so I'll probably get it restored.
Paris with a facial cum shot was I assume deliberate.

Not really a horror person, but the colors and format for this artwork was just too cool to pass up.Nice pickup Mike. I wasn't really a huge fan of the movie. But the poster isn't to bad.

Oh man, Brandon.. sorry again to read about the horror result of bad packaging. Looks like another case of "postertube-bouncer-itis?" :P
Will you have it gel backed? Or maybe just pressed?
Congrats again, on finding a more uncommon version, too.

Love that lost boys quad.
selling off the collection or just honing down to the small number of posters you like most?
ps: nice Dune poster
Matias, you need to show that awesome Doan Theater WC here... (if you want, of course... but man, it's a beauty!!) clap clap
Great poster. It is 100% a legit quad. However, based on the folds it looks like one that was distributed with the Eric and the Bunnymen "People are Strange" single. I have had two with that fold pattern (one was unused in the album!) and compared them to a theater used folded copy (3 vertical fold lines, 1 horizontal fold line)... they are identical printings from what I can tell.
Best poster for the film!
Just seen the call Jeff. Here it is. :D

So, this poster also came with the Echo and then Bunnymen record? Interesting. Do you have pics? Curious to see the side by side comparison. :)
Sorry, I don't have any comparison pictures... but here is the auction photo from my set, complete with album, jacket (still in plastic) and poster. The seller made a small slit in the plastic wrapper to remove the poster for photos -- otherwise totally unused. The quad is folded square to fit inside the jacket.

Oh yeah, Randy.. I forgot about that one. That's killer, too. GREAT image of Sutherland!I am pretty sure it was a German Video poster.
I cant remember-- was that German poster a theatrical or video release poster? I seem to recall reading it was for the vid release but maybe that wasnt right? dontknow.gif
^ IDK Jeff the German video poster I believe it is has a great image as well. (http://images.moviepostershop.com/the-lost-boys-movie-poster-1987-1000717704.jpg)Not the best picture but it works. Love this image. I have been on the hunt for one of these for awhile now.

I'm not into banners anymore because they take too much room to store. Bus stops, I do collect, because I can put them together in rolls of 50. Still highly manageable.
Anyhow, you should get this one while you still can. The thing with bus shelter posters is that once they're gone, they're gone.

To continue the Turtle theme, I just got this one. It's from a set of 6 retro themed posters for imaginary films used to promote Frankenweenie. Unfortunately I think they're all (very nice quality) reprints :(
I had my suspicions from the start but decided to go for it anyway. I was so desperate for them to be legit I think I fooled myself!

Congratulations, Ben.
Impressive format for one of the most powerful films ever made.
cheers
@ Rich. Seriously. I will have to go to Vegas to see your collection. Congrats thumbsup.gif
Probably the first time I have ever started a month here, and since I rarely post photos of what I have...double dose of random from me, I guess.
Might be more pumped about this one than any other in some time. One of my favorite films, from my favorite director, and in the BEST format (3sh) for the art by a landslide, IMO.
Didn't alter any color saturation/contrast/brightness/etc...this thing just pops.

another item for the Raymond Chandler collection
of all the titles, this one, which is the first film adapted from one of his works (Farewell My Lovely - my favorite novel) is the most difficult to find material from.
My good buddy Mark Tollensdorf aka weimer1014 on ebay put this up and then gave me the super-duper deal when I asked him about it.
it's the final piece I needed on the title for the main pieces of paper (1sh, both HS, insert, 3sh) but what has been impossible to find are the lobby cards of which I only have 1
thanks Mark!

I think its time Matias launched a website.
His eclectic taste for the weird is quite unique.
I'll bet that the vast majority of his collection is paper none of us own or have even seen.
Nice WC, man.
cheers
Your taste in girls is impeccable as always Ted. notworthy.gif
Good one
I dunno Matias - Ted did mention Sarah Palin positively in another thread :o;D zing!

yes I agree. he has a wide variety of cool & strange, much like Michael Greenwood (tintarchive) who has a great selection of sex & weird stuff.
would be interesting to see how much cross-over they have (my guess is some, but not much do to the scarcity of lots of the material)

Well I for one would like to see your From Russia with love Quad, it's the only one I need....
Man, this is gorgeous.
I'm assuming it is linen-backed, but is there much restoration?
Nothing wrong with Tato's and water, well worth the sacrifice.
The Dr No doesn't look bad, I'd just leave it as is... Mind, You did get it for a great price.
Well, there are some cracks in the restoration from the rolling so not sure that is expected.
Also not sure what to do with the Russia quad. Prime candidate for restoration and cleaning. I would be interested in how the colours respond but... dunno.
But the Gf quad is in ridiculously good condition. One pinhole top and left and right. A minor tear around the left pinhole. Won't be touching that at all.
Another great new addition...

Yeah, Rich, no way I'd go the freight it was originally offered at (and I'm a fanatic as you are well aware).
Chris, not sure 100% just what the hell it is, some sort of magazine that focused on film and possibly sold in cinemas. This one has a guaranteed edition of 61,500. The interior features other films but nothing more on DRACULA. And my Antwerpense is shoddy so most of it will remain a mystery :D

Using a poster to dispose of posters...Ingenious and dastardly. That GotG poster is a traitor to its kind.
But Chris, I'm such a Lance Fuller fan I had to have it ;D.
^ Agree. Great design!
@ Ari, congratulations! Thats a film I have never been able to watch. The ending is too scary!
And exactly how do you know it's scary if you weren't able to watch it? :D
You MUST watch the wicker man. It's in my top 3 for goodness sakes.
Yes..on my watch list.
tho I'm still recovering from Texas chainsaw..am I the only one who finds Texas absolutely terrifying? I could not sleep in 4 days :P.....
I am not sure it scary. I haven't been scared at a film for a LOOOOONG time. I remember I was about 12 and baby sitting my sister and my mother had rented me psycho. I say up waiting for my parents to come home holding a large kitchen knife. Haha wish I could get that rush again.
You MUST watch the wicker man. It's in my top 3 for goodness sakes.
Good luck Ari. I have been trying to get folks around here to watch Twilight Samurai for years. It is like pissing on a flat rock.
Hey, I saw it. It's a pretty darned exceptional movie...
I've watched TCM more times than any other film.
I really am very sorry....

Monitor Pictures shows up in the Kinematograph Yearbooks from '48 and '49 as being an Argentina distributor (at Lavalle 1924, Buenos Aires), then in '52 in the Production Encyclopedia (Lavalle 2012, BA). Of course that's just the US references, they could have been around a lot longer.
I think we know who needs to chime in on this one.

And as a comparison to the £15 you paid, Paul, take a look at what Benito wants for the same poster. He has it ID'd incorrectly but that aside, his price added a couple zeros ... 1500 euros! faint2.gif

More than 10 so far Chris. Benito got his copy from the seller that is dumping them. It was probably the second or third copy sold.

Great design on that OS, Brandon. An eye or sunflower... depending on how long you look at it.

Those 20th Century Fox posters from +/- 1940 are real stunners that don't really get the (financial) respect I think they deserve. They definitely have a look that you can spot a mile away.
It's interesting that right around this period all the studios had a very distinctive style that you can pretty much guess who made it with just a quick scan. Universal has it, the crappy Warner Bros duotones have it, even most of the RKOs can be spotted, in addition to Fox. Kind of neat, though don't know why that is. Maybe the studio system allowed poster designers some consistency in their work that later generations of freelancers didn't have.
--Peter
I see an eclipse!
I think each studio purposely went for a "house style" so as to be a recognizable product of that studio. I believe the "house styles" are discussed somewhat in Reel Art...
I won this one at eMovie tonight. Japanese B2 for 28 Days Later (2002). It's the best art on the title, IMO. The wristband on the lower edge is a nice touch, and the guy walking in his hospital clothes, with the city backdrop and the wild sunrise, is really striking.

Lots of good deals tonight I would think, I was expecting a lot of the B2s to go for more. Me, I got me an insert for 5 bucks!
Hmm, and here I was thinking that these threads were for what was picked up in that month.
Worry not fella, sour grapes here. Where did you pick up the Th teaser? Was it the one on ebay recently for £12,000? Is it in a frame behind UV glass?
Dr No looks to be in splendid condition.
Also, lovely China Girl. Bet those colours pop in person.
You have been busy sir.

Michael your posters are absolutely stunning! I agree with the statement on NIGHTMARE ALLEY, it's one of the best IMO. Also, seeing DETOUR is making me, um, very jealous. I can never get enough of that movie and that poster is also one of my favorites. Ann Savage is the most underrated femme fatale EVER! She's out of her mind in that movie - borderline schizophrenic and attractive to beat. What a molotav cocktail of a woman...
Is this from the Holiday Russell Collection?
Simply smashing.
Congrats, Brandon!

This one below is my favorite out of the lot. It must have been 16 years ago, when I was 21. That I learned about a mythical Bond quad that was supposed to be cut up into pieces. Over the years I thought about getting one, but something else always came up. Then there was the one at Heritage back in the summer of 2008 that I forgot to bid on. Well, this past June, I was finally able to get one. This is one mean fucking poster. It’s in a frame now and I will post a photo of it later on today.

It was Peter. I hadn't made so much exercise since I was in my early 20s. Posters are heavy!
As some of you may know, I've made a trip a few weeks back to help the wife of a friend who died earlier this year organizing his poster collection. It was not an easy task, as there was around 10.000 posters in it, pretty disorganized. There was all kinds if stuff, from 40s serials to 80s sexploitation, and looking throught it was quite an experience.
She generously let me took a few that were duplicates, and had a special meaning for me. I am extremely happy of being in custody of these.
This one is for the first film of Isabel Sarli:

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. That was mighty kind of you to help his wife. Organizing 10,000 posters must be a heckuva workout.

To have stuntman Gil Perkins featured on this LC and other FMTWM material is something. He must have loved the "center stage" publicity.
My other score this month. In addition to the nice use of light and shadow, I like the added touch of the fly on the poncho.

That Anna poster is unreal. Outstanding buy.
This one here is both a recent and also a Unicorn at he same time. It is an original Back to the Future Mall advance poster. It is the only advance made for the movie that is dated, double sided, is an odd size at about 40x50 and was made specifically for use in the mall display boards that we all remember so well. I actually remember seeing this in one of the displays back in '85 and thinking to myself how do I get it out. It gets the Unicorn status because other than the one Lieberman sold some time ago I do not know of or have seen any other copies of it.

First a Italian Soggettone (1 sheet) for IL RIPOSO DEL GUERRIERO. Found one rolled for a decent price in great shape, but the Italian seller stupidly sent it in a tube with no protection, with a piece of paper wrapped around the middle keeping it rolled. It bounced and rolled around in the tube in shipping and ripped around the sides of the paper he had wrapped around it! Doh.gif
So here's what it looked like before he shipped it..
And when I got it..

Anyhow I managed to get almost half my money back. Very disappointing though because this is a rare one, I've only seen a couple and both have been folded. Got this a lot cheaper and it was rolled. So it will have to be linen backed now.
Liking your work as always Jim, shame about the Twat who posted it.
true, I am a dumb cracker.
I wonder if that's just how it was before shipping. Some dealers are clever "cookies" (not you Rich...or you Ari)
I wonder if that's just how it was before shipping. Some dealers are clever "cookies" (not you Rich...or you Ari)
Jim, did the edges of the poster suffer any damage with it bouncing back and forth in tube?
I don't believe it was. The rips are right near the edges where he wrapped a piece of paper to hold the roll. My theory is the unwrapped ends caught in the tube while the poster was rolling around in shipping and ripped due the force of the paper holding down the middle. Ironically it would have been better off had he just stuck it in the tube loose!

Uh...like that one !!
Deke, is that latest poster also by Cabral?
Looks great!
Yep, it is by Cabral, from 1952. I love the festivity of the image, with the guns firing, tequila, dominoes, etc.
You cant go wrong if there is tequila involved... ;)

OK folks here is a Minority Report Holographic Subway Map Set piece used in the movie to depict Washington, DC of the future.
Its based off our existing Metro/Subway/Tube system.
It "flips" to three different layers of the D.C.'s Metro. and measures in at 3x4ft.
These are pre-shipping pics and will update my Lenticular thread once the crate arrives.

Found a picture of my tube map. It's printed on semi-transparent fiberglass so it was presumably meant to be backlit. I've seen plenty of subway maps of various vintages -- some of the old ones go for really big bucks -- but they were all printed on paper and meant to be distributed to patrons. I assume this one wasn't supposed to end up in public hands. It's huge too... something like 40" tall by 50" wide.

I read the synopsis from the Spanish language wikipedia and could find no mention of a razor or barber or anything like that. Although cross dressing is mentioned so maybe this poster illustrates one of the male characters getting a very close shave so he may pass as a señora?
now that is a dynamite poster
Thanks Rich. I actually picked up a trio of 58" bombshells over the last few years. Here is the second in the series... possibly my favorite poster for Asphalt Jungle!

Nice, Jason. You are now the proud owner of triplets! ;D
hmm just noticed after posting that quad #3 has a text in the shape of a circle located at the bottom left. Should I be concerned fellas ?
Hopefully that circle one is not an imposter and the children will stay here with me.
Jason, that circle is on my copy, which I'm certain is legit: http://www.filmonpaper.com/posters/friday-the-13th-quad-uk/ (http://www.filmonpaper.com/posters/friday-the-13th-quad-uk/) (check the last pic)
It's the Advertising Viewing Committee logo which was intended to let punters know that the poster had been vetted by them as being safe for public display. I think they must be defunct now as I've not seen that logo for a while.
Do you have any statistical analysis to back up that assertion?
;D
I wouldn't worry T.

Why did you buy three copies?!
Good question.
Is it possible the one without the AVC stamp (circle) is from a later, or even earlier, printing?
Or why did you buy an Original and two Copies.... ;)

Perhaps I shouldn't Joke, I was just messin with ya Jason... At least Chris and me thought it funny... ;)
Just received this a couple nights ago and pretty jazzed about it. It's the less common style C US OS for The Adventures of Tartu (MGM 1943), with Robert Donat, and Valerie Hobson, of Bride of Frank fame ;)

Apparently, this is considered a Horror movie, but I never knew that... I just remember it being an exceptionally good flick. This is the original video poster (there is a reprint) that I vastly prefer to the one sheet and foreign releases. For some reason, this is the image that I remember hanging at the theater. Seriously, seek this out if have not seen it...
As a big fan of Danny Kaye and The Court Jester being one of my favorites for him I figured it was about time I bought a one sheet for the film.
Wow you are having a busy month Jeff. Nice pickup. Now you just need to learn German. Verstehen Sie mich?
Picked up and just received this (my first) German A1 size poster for Anatomy of a Murder (1959).
Very cool, Jeff. It's a classic movie, and that text only style is probably pretty darn rare, eh?
Ja, ich verstehe.
Ich studierte Deutsch in der Schule für sechs Jahre. ;D
Vielen Dank an alle, sehr viel.
Best to switch back to the native tongue, i agree...hehe.
One last thought, tho, Mike. and it's deep:
"Wichtig ist was der Mensch tut, nicht wie er aussieht."
;D
Didn't Yoda say something like that.
Sweet trio, Ari.
I have always really liked that style of EYES WITHOUT A FACE, too. thumbsup.gif
Thanks. I agree. I am so tempted to start a French hammer collection.

Quite right Tob, it was the green version that was used on the dvd box's, not the Blue version...J.
Cool to see accurate info., and directly from the source. Good work, Jason, and cool quad. cool1
Good info Jason, the white box versions were only prints of the Quads, and not theatre used...At least I don't have to track those down... :)

Lol I haven't looked at posters on ebay in so long. Been out of the buying loop for awhile.
I guess I have taken a picture. See that is how often I look at the damn things. But the first picture with the toes isn't my picture. The feet look all weird and pixeled. Almost looks like you cropped them in there.

tee hee hee, atleast in your original picture we see your pink sock...dont blame it on your daughters we know its yours :)I sport the pink like a proud man ;)
I think I will mark this as one of the buys of the decade for me so far. Night of the Living Dead one sheet $20 ;D. Have been wanting to add this to the collection for a long time but did not like it enough for the normal price tag. Patience has paid off.

Thanks, I was pretty excited about it. I check CL a lot and rarely find anything but the picked through lots that you are talking about. I don't know what I should have paid, but I gave the guy $100 for this an a couple other items that he was trying to get rid of.
Here is an emovie list of what other folded (unbacked) copies have gone for in the past, sorted by most recent sales...
You did great on this! Were the other items you got also posters?
http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/film_title/COOL%2520HAND%2520LUKE/type/1sh/style/FF/sort/14/archive.html
I told the guy that it was probably worth much more than I was giving him. But he didn't seem concerned. He said that he inherited it from a friend that passed a few years back and he was glad to pass it on to someone that would enjoy it.
It's so refreshing to hear this. For once, not a greedy bastard who wants 10 times more money than what an item's worth.

You are right, it was refreshing. I have to admit though, it wasn't easy for me to tell him that he could probably get more for it. It all worked out, so I'm happy. thumbsup.gif
And the fact that you were up front with him about its potential value and what he could get for it-- and him still not being concerned and selling it and the other items for 100 bucks is all about good karma. Again, good for you. Well gotten and well deserved. :D

There is something to be said about people who enjoy the hobby and want to make a collector happy vs all these greedy dealers who only think about money and don't care about anything but themselves.

I'm really pleased to add this wonderful UK one sheet to my collection - I can see now why Holiday loves his one so much.last christmas i was in manchester which is where lilly cole comes from.and she was hosting some kind of event [?] in a really tiny bar.

One quick question... I want to get this linen backed too but someone in the past wrote 'Bande A Part' in biro on the back right behind Anna Karina's face. You can 'very slightly' see it if you look hard enough (but not enough to notice thank god!) But... I'm worried that if i linen back it it will show through. Any suggestions?
I also bought this Belgium lately too (damn I don't buy any posters in half a year and then two of my holy grails come at once) Again, been trying to find this for YEARS but couldn't find any listings for it anywhere. Then Ebay struck gold.
Bande A Part.

Anna is positively lovely, and I've never seen either of those before. Well done!

I cannot say how grateful I am.

Didn't have a chance to get a real picture, just a camera phone one. Not movie posters at all but I think this is a pretty decent little score:

Nice pickups wormie. The better half will thumb wrestle you for the Snow White.
And Todd F had his own issue at Sotheby's?
Wow. That is one catalog I'd like to see, too.
I never knew that! Was it all his material, or was he featured?

Nice, wormie...
Are those Japanese pieces the B2 size? There is some great imagery on those, too. I like these 2, especially. :)
All the Japanese pieces are B1. The The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is DS B1. The rest are SS B1.
I like the Pom Poko the most as well, especially the black one. :)
Congrats on getting the B1 sizes. I bet they all look amazing in person!
Oh, Very! Thanks! I plan to put them up on my wall one at a time and rotate them from time to time.
I guess I just need to chase down the rest. I just wish Holiday's website was not down, so at least I have a complete reference of which B1 exists ;)
If you got them on EMP theres a good chance they were Holidays.
qip Oh happy day!!! qip
After four years of searching the wait is finally over.

Nice pickups, Brian and Brandon.
Seems someone came out of early retirement...
Hooray!
:D
Well, when you stumble across a find of cards that are as important and iconic as these, you don't think you just throw money at them! Oh, and you come out of retirement temporarily.
Like this one.
I have been buying inserts for a friend who just likes his films and actors, and more importantly, to be actually restored, framed and hung. (To date, Bruce Lee's EtD and Game of Death, and Marilyn)
He wanted a Godfather insert as well for his walls but the US insert for this title is just black & white - he was asking about the red side view and all I found was the Aus daybill. Alas, these measurements differ so, no go.
Oh boy!
Put it in the same sized frame with a white mat that makes it fill the frame as an insert would (and a similar second mat if he uses them same colour as his others framed.)
if that makes sense.
Crikey! A lot of nice ones there Chris! Hope you finished your Christmas shopping before splurging on yourself ;D ;)I think Splurging on yourself is now one of the banned activities according to the British Government
Been a very busy December from a buying perspective but this is one of my favorites for the month. SO much so that it arrived on Saturday, was backed on Sunday and in a frame today. Another Howard Chandler Christy WWI poster for the Red Cross.
Nice one, and impressive timeline. cool1
Where did you win it from? If you don't mind me asking.
This one believe it or not came off of Fleece-Bay. Looked horrible in the pictures but I saw potential. There is another one listed in less than perfect condition if you are looking.

Unspoken terror transcends; spooky in its simplicity. Very cool poster.
Gosh its quiet here today.
It's Christmas, dude. I intend to spend 10 minutes a day on the forum, just to check it out, but that will be it. Family comes first.

An early Christmas present to myself. Finally replaced one of the stolen Star Wars posters that I most missed. Even though it is a text only poster this one actually has one of the strongest memories for me as I remember seeing it in a drive in back in the day. Brings back great childhood memories. Sadly not minty like the one that was taken but a displayable copy nonetheless.

Just sent payment to Peter @ Movie Poster Exchange for this bee-yoooo-tiful Esther Williams half-sheet.
I didn't buy many this year, but the few I gathered have made my 2014 a good year, indeed.
Just been catching up...strong finish to the year folks! I enjoyed looking through the last few pages.
