I have heard a few say, they don't care for Double bill posters. Me I love them, they are from a time gone by...never to return. Quite a lot of the Hammer first releases are Double bills, so if you want first release you have to buy them.
I think what puts a lot of people off them is the pairing of films that just have no reason to be on the same program together.
To get us started, the classic...

You know, if you split each of those into two they would make great one-sheets...
:P

I think I'm changing my mind 'bout these double bill quads, especially when the movies are well-matched and - of course - the cheesy/sleazy ones:

I can't handle this gear, Paul!!!!!
laugh1 Nah, just kidding, this is great!
I may make the plunge and buy a older horror poster, with a double bill being the order of the day.
My resistance may have just evaporated :o
(This may be a half sheet, not sure).
Look at the bottom right corner of the image you posted (that will answer your question).

Those are all very, very cool, Paul.
Quads were much better suited to double-bills than one sheets.
Now -- pardon my ignorance -- were 20x30 double crowns made for the express purpose of theatres creating their own double bills?
-
It's a good idea Ted, but they were just part of the Advertising campaign.
Here's one I made for my own cinema. ;)

A nice Disney double after all that Sex and Horror.
-
I agree about the appeal of double bill feature quads.
While I concentrate purely on the double bills that feature Two Bond films, as opposed to a Bond and an Eastwood (for example), I do find them to be just so delightfully random.
Bygone eras, never to be repeated. (I don't think we can count the Park Circus re-releases or the occasional festival in this space.
-
Those are awesome Paul the "not for the squeamish" on the Grave of the Vampire/Tomb of the Undead is GREAT. I like the Funhouse/My Bloody Valentine if someone has it....

1938 Double Bill for the re-release of Dracula and Frankenstein. Only copy known to exist.
Universal made both films available separately as part of their re-release program in spring of 1938, and they both flopped. Then in late summer the Rialto in Los Angeles started showing them together (along with Son of Kong) and they were such a smash that lines sometimes stretched around the block and Lugosi himself often showed up to mingle with the fans. Universal had a "d'oh" moment and quickly re-released the two film together where they set many box office records across the country when they played.
This not only helped save cash-starved Universal from Bankruptcy, but the success of these showings convinced them to green-light Son of Frankenstein and started the next wave of horror films from Universal Studios.

Nice... and a Halloween showing to boot!
-
Nope, need to get some of these, since the quads are really ideal for double features. The designers made up in creativity what they lacked in budget:
"Together 'N Terrific!"
(This may be a half sheet, not sure).
I really liked this one. Way too many of these are simply 2 one sheets side by side, but a few, like this one, show some creativity with the material.

That's a US Half Sheet.
I pointed Mel the right way on this but alas, no reply as ever :'(
Anyway, Paul, yeah that Birds DC! WOW!
I like the Funhouse/Bloody Valentine Quad!

Sean.. what a great looking card. Its too bad that this double bill release wasnt done before the Laemmles lost control of the studio in 1936. Maybe they would have retained it and eased their cash situation, especially with the cash overrun of $300,000.00 that happened on SHOWBOAT.
Is this card in your personal collection?

It's a double-crown (30" x 20") - the only one we've ever seen -which we sold a few years ago - art by Leo Couper.
Best wishes,

Jeff, the first film on that double bill is one of the few horror films made in Argentina (until the 70s at least) called "Obras Maestras del Terror", made of 3 episodes adapting Poe`s stories. I have the one sheet and purchased a few days ago the 40x60 (wich should arrive soon!)
Here´s a press sheet I have too:

It was also released alone:
And retitled in another double-bill:

Well, argentinean horror is my niche. Until the 70s there were no more than 8-10 genre films made here, and my collecting focus is on those films. I`m a completist on these, so (whenever something pops up) I try to get it: all formats, all countries, etc...

Triples are most definitely aloud, I was hoping some one had a 5 bill, as there were a few here in the U.K. So there must have been some in the States.
I remember an all night Kung-fu show with 5 films, An all night Horror fest again showing 5 films. There was the Ape-athon, where all the planet of the Apes films were shown in one go. Also a special showing of all the Star wars films in order finishing with the new ( at the time ) episode 3...

I expect there will be a number of marathons when the last harry Potter releases, but I doubt there will be a poster printed.
I added up all the running times, and this is one marathon I definitely will not be attending. A bit over 19 hours worth. If they want to start the last one at midnight on the release date, they will need to start the marathon at 7 AM the previous morning.
-
The Star Wars one made the news, I think only a couple made the very end, most went home and came back for the showing of Episode 3.
I went to the Ape-athon, but started nodding off Half way through "Conquest of", so knew it was time to go home...

Came across this in my 'Misc' pile downstairs, thought it appropriate to join the ranks of this thread.
Two of the funniest comedies EVER made...if you disagree, you are wrong. :)
Tough to beat the REAL Arthur and Bo Derek...um...needing a set of dry clothes.
PS: Russell Brand doesn't have a toenail's worth of comedic talent that Moore did.

That Aussie Bond double bill is great... wonder if Adam has that one!

Does Bo look as though she has been Photo-shoped, Her right side looks a bit odd!!
I do like the films, but best ever is a strong statement, have you never heard of Laurel & Hardy, or the Marx Bros...

A triple and double bill:

Erik, was that you who got that one today? ;)
Paul, I hear ya, but I will watch either Arthur or 10 for some laughs before, say,...Duck Soup. Comedies are tough to gauge in regards to quality made/classics vs. laugh quantity for sure...another reason why I will watch Dumb and Dumber over anything in the genre. :)
-
I cannot disagree with anything you have said, I love Dumb and Dumber also. ;D
Jeff, that triple is right up my street. happy1
While on the subject, Anyone own any Laurel & Hardy, or Marx Bros posters??? Originals preferably.

Hi, Folks!
Inspired by this thread, we have created a Picasa album of our current double-bill posters ... all quads except where stated otherwise ...
Quadbod double-bill film posters (https://picasaweb.google.com/quadbod12/QuadbodDoubleBillFilmPosters?authuser=0&feat=directlink)
... some are nicer than others!
Best wishes,

I only own two, and this one is the most interesting. I love posters that have little claims/guarantees on them:

Double bills look soooooooo much better in quad format.

And in full color. That is a rarity in the US, where DBs are treated more like red-headed step children....

The landscape format is best for double bills, IMO, too. And the color can be outstanding, too!

That do look better in the quad format. Looking at yours, thats for sure.
-
Bloody hell Paul - superb line up.
-
It seems like double bill posters were particularly popular in the UK compared to other countries.
In Japan, I only know of a few examples and I also cannot think of any German posters for two movies.
