Title: Goonies "Map style" on Ebay 26x40
Post by: Cj on March 07, 2010, 12:15:35 AM
I figured I would just post this up here as an FYI.

This seller list this Goonies "Map style" poster as a full 26x40. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220565488601&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123#ht_500wt_1182 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220565488601&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123#ht_500wt_1182)

I messaged him the following:

Hi,

Are you sure this an original? An original measures a full 27x41.

Thanks

His response:

if you go to google and type in how to tell an original movie poster it will give you the info, specially on the ebay site one. Originals came in 27 x 41 and 26 x 40. It will tell you that there are 2 sizes not one.I can only go by what I have been told as I am selling these on behalf of the owner. But the sites does state 2 sizes it can be for originals not 1, kind regards kev

I know for a fact that this poster measures a full 27x41 since I have one. My guess is that if this is an original, it was probably trimmed. You can see in his pic that the white border is smaller than it should be or it's a repro.

He has one bid on it so far and hopefully it is not from anyone here.

Do these generally show up rolled or folded?  The one in the auction does not appear to have been folded.

I believe this one is trimmed, the seller may or may not know this or may or may not have been the one who trimmed it.

Another Goonies map went down yesterday...it had a larger white border.  Had some edge damage but still went for under $150 (rolled).

It doesn't seem like it's applicable here but for international sales - this one is in Canada - I always watch out for metric issues.  The standard metric one sheet is 700mm x 1000mm (27.5 x 39 3/8).

I've had a few of the map style and they have always been rolled and exactly 27x41.

How?

Doesn't seem applicable, even for modern one sheets of the 40" long era.

I have several 700mm x 1000mm original movie posters from Australia, Thailand, etc.  That's also the standard large frame size at IKEA.  The metric issue doesn't come up often but it's something to consider and Canada does use the metric system.

I know it won't happen but everyone should use the metric system because it makes more sense.

The UK advance one sheet(s) for The Prestige are like that, in case anyone ever comes across one and wonders if its real.
