Something that will mean nothing to you guys but means a hell of a lot to me...

Finnish Duel poster for my Steven Spielberg collection.

Being a completist can really suck, especially when you spend 8 years courting someone in the hope that he will sell you that one poster you've been after for so long.

Well, he finally did, and I'm happy.  Wasn't cheap, but I don't care, it's mine.  My 33rd Duel poster.

Nothing to be impressed about.  A friend of mine was his personal assistant for years and another friend of mine directed a movie with Annette Bening.  He has the most amazing stories about Warren, like watching his movie on Warren's computer at 3 am with Warren giving him his opinion on the takes and telling him war stories between him and his buddy Jack.  Wish I had been there for that.

I snatched up a couple more of these for a great price because cost of Thai posters is going through the roof.  It's actually kind of ridiculous with price hikes up to %500 in the last 2 years.  My days of collecting them is coming to an end because of it.  I'm getting lucky with a few untapped genres but for the most part the others are now out of my reach.  Did any of you out there ever experience this with posters from other countries or genres?

This one was, for some reasons, very hard to get.  Apparently, they printed a very small amount and all of them are accounted for.  It is also printed on vinyl style paper, and not on the usual wilding paper.  And it was wrapped in paper.  Brand new.

But I insisted and I finally got it yesterday.  I needed it for my Zemeckis collection.  I put a picture of my kids next to it for size.

Very cool.  cool1   Great movie, especially in IMAX 3D.

Looks like a high quality banner, especially relative to wildings.  It's probably about 20 feet long, huh?

The Elephant Man (1980); US OS, dir. by David Lynch. This is a film & poster image i have always really liked. I think the B/W cinematography, acting, sets, costumes, makeup and casting were all simply top notch. I'd also love to find out who did the art for this poster, too. It reminds me of an etching. Or was it a photo, that was later, digitally manipulated in some way, to create this effect?

Thanks, Ari. The film was beautifully shot.

I was looking at the OS, again, up close with a magnifier and the imagery on this is looks to be cross-hatching (or photo software to create this look). It was this cross hatched design that I was always so drawn to, as I also really like etchings. I would guess the basis of the image was a production photo, similar to that used on the JP B2:

Took awhile to run one of these down after scoffing at the prices a few years ago. Seems they have settled down some, but this is not mint either, but good enough for the inventory!

bad lighting..

Hmmm, looks like a "printer's proof" or whatever the effective term is these days.  Mine definitely does not have that border.

Yeah it is, I didnt want to pass on it this time around as I missed the past couple that happened to come to market, one due to pricing and one I just missed. Would still like to get the standard as well though.

Paper is standard paper density.

Wow! Wow! Wow! I kept waiting for the September thread new post notifications to pop in my email so I could see all of the cool new stuff, when--DUH!--I remembered it was October and there's a new thread. And quite full of treasures it is. Sooooo many posters on here already! Zowie! Congrats all. My faves that really popped out for me are Paul's "SPECTRE" (with the skull--dang, i want one!) , T's Bardot ("The Truth"--and congrats on getting a step closer to completing your "DUEL"/Speilburg collection), MWright's "Return of the Living Dead" and "Dawn of the Dead" (You've really hooked me on those Thai posters. Yowza!), I dig Matias' triple-feature sex ed poster with "Glen or Glenda?", and Jeff your "Changeling" is creepy cool!

The creepy, ghostly wheelchair imagery on The Changeling (the US OS art, initially) always spoke to me, ectoplasm and all.  >:D

And I also always liked Seito's SW poster too.

Ooooo I really dig the Bond and Elm Street posters! Nifty! Wow!

I don't usually post things here, saving my stuff for my own personal collection page. But this new piece is a bit different. It's not something I'd usually pick up, but I just was drawn to it. The seller says its 1960...the film was from 1959...but the artwork makes it look like it's from the 20s or 30s. I was told it was an Egyptian poster in English. I kind of doubt that. I see something that says "Italia" on it, which makes me think Italian. But whatever. I'll post this on my own thread later. Just thought someone would be able to clarify what this is exactly. Thanks!

MAGG, down on the lower left border, in the printer's info, it looks like i'm seeing the name of Cairo. (IMP el NASR. Cairo) Am I reading that right?

If so, then Im guessing this poster would have been printed there.

Here's the Italian 2F:

Hi. Thanks. I saw that AFTER I posted it. Duh. Oh well. Ha!

Both posters are nice---thanks for finding the Italian for comparison--but I actually think I like mine better. (That's soooo usually NOT the case). But the Italian does mention it was directed by Fritz Lang, and mine does not.

Still...THANK YOU!

again just plodding along, picking up stuff i like.
although i have to say i am now getting to a stage on ebay.it that i cant remember which sellers are completely useless and the ones i can use!
my last lot after having lengthy exchanges about condition and the importance of packaging. simply folded all the 2f, 4f and even locandina an extra time and jammed them into a jiffy with no extra packing materials at all!!! :(
by sheer luck they managed to escape much damage!
anyhoo a couple i have had recently.

Hi Rosa that poster is TeamWeapons poster, Ted commented he liked 3 posters but 2 only appeared as the link to this 3rd poster was broken, then I think Ted removed the comment referring to 3 posters so it got a bit confusing.

T

Heyy Thierry,

Have you ever realized that the polish Duel poster have 2 versions?  I just made a small research on Duel designs, and i just found this one. I am almost sure that you saw it before, but i just realized it, and you came into my mind immediately. Look at the plate numbers, and the eyes of the "truck" :

Chris, that is a wonderful poster. It brings back memories of fairytales!

It always reminds me of Benjamin Lacombe, illustrator of childrens' books. He is very popular over here.... Not sure if you know him

Below is an ilustration by Benjamin Lacombe...

Here is my version of naked woman sitting on something... this time a flower

My little research suggests Edwige Fenech is a bit of a star in Italian sexploitation comedies. So, got to get a poster then. I also want to similarly get a poster with Gloria Gilda... keep posted....

Ok, I don't know what this movie is about, but I feel for the guy... probably as close as he ever got...
I've been hanging out to get this poster but all the ones I saw seemed rather faded or not printed well, but to my surprise this arrived with quite strong colours and quite presentable for wall display.

Stunning posters, Steve!  I like the third one the best. Reminds me of those 80s coming of age sex comedies like PRIVATE LESSONS ( http://www.impawards.com/1981/posters/private_lessons_xlg.jpg (http://www.impawards.com/1981/posters/private_lessons_xlg.jpg) ) or maybe MY TUTOR--but yours is better. But all are very thumbs up-four stars all the way! Bravo!!

Sounds like there is a sub culture I didn't even know about...   I guess you all watch the Italian versions as some copies I've found don't have English subs or dubs. I think those shows no translation necessarily.

This window card was in the post-auction section as well, but thought I would place it here too.  My first movie poster purchase in like 4-5 months.  The more I look at, the less I want to get it restored.  I kind of dig the age of it, and it doesn't affect the art at all.  Not sure why I needed this too, since I have the one-sheet, but it just called to me, and I answered.

Zombi 2 (aka Zombie Flesh Eaters) (1979); directed by Lucio Fulci.

Turkish OS, with artwork based on that done originally for the UK quad by Tom Beauvais.*

This is yet another poster image that I have always admired and think works very well. I watched the trailer on youtube.. and well.. wasnt too wowed,  :-\ so I think this poster might be another that is better than the film itself. But will give the movie a go.

Great choice and great taste! THAT'S the poster you got that I got. I had a feeling it was one of the Turkish posters (I don't know why) and this was actually my 2nd guess after JAWS. Bravo! Apparently the title translates, not to "Zombie", but to "99% Dead". Ha!

Yes, you are right! Thanks!!!  I thought it was a reinterpretation of the Fontana di Trevi Salvi had that sort of style ...i guess that is why I like so much its  overall look, composition etc.. :P

I think this image works so well and I think the art is fantastic. And it also made me curious what Krampus was. Sort of the demonic, "anti-St Nicholas" in German and Alpine folklore. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krampus )

Thanks to Dale for this poster, too.

Lucky!  The managers seem to be the best connection for stuff that is currently in theaters.  I've seen a few banners at a large, local theater that are darn rare, and I asked about a couple times, but they're extremely strict with gifting anything to people.  In cases like that, it would be nice to know the manager, who may be able to hook someone up, as was possibly the case with the Spectre banners.

Yes Neo, it certainly makes a difference, there seems to be a pecking order for posters. I know another fellow at another Cinema, but he's only a projectionist/odd job man, and he has trouble getting anything... I guess I fell in lucky with the guy who's a Manager, it happens sometimes like that.

Those HUNGER GAMES and KRAMPUS posters are really great.  I think the HUNGER GAMES series of posters are some of my favorites from the past few years.  Really nice designs.

I wish I had a better picture of this new arrival.  For me, the kung-fu Thai posters are some of the most amazing movie posters ever made.  The design of this one is brilliant.  These posters have a never ending collage of movement within them and are very much living and breathing pieces of art.  This one was painted by an artist named Poj.  Neil Pettigrew once told me that Poj was responsible for many of the soft core porn movie posters that were made in Thailand.  I have a few of those as well and they are also quite stunning.

Hang on to your folded. Someone will hopefully back me up or clarify this further as there is a lot of up in the air about the rolled F13ths. What I understand is that the original releases were all folded. The rolled ones are also for theatrical release, but for a re-release and were held for some reason. They were never actually used and were discovered years later in warehouses. Or something like that. Still, the rolled is nice and authentic--it's just not a true first release. In other words--don't get rid of your folded one yet (unless you want to give it to me).

one more for tonight.... Rolled and pwetty nice first release! happy to upgrade from my folded copy..... ofcourse I still love the Quad more.

Nice score!  And no worries with authenticity of course... this is a rolled 1st release "high GAU" version.  They are rare, but 1st printing rolled copies do exist.  Congrats!

I love the original "FRIDAY the 13Th" (much more interesting than most of the rest of the posters in the series! Geez!) and I trust Harry's judgement. I just didn't want you to make a mistake. Phew!  That's one good thing about being on this forum---to get an education from people who really know their stuff.

BRAVO on the rolled!!! (And I'll still gladly take your folded version off your hands!) :-)

You were right be worried, rolled originals are very rare.  And there are lots of rolled later prints in circulation that look almost identical -- both the fanclub 40" poster and the 41" GCIU logo version.  That second one fools everybody because it's the correct size AND the printing is of very high quality.  The only reason we know for sure that it's not first release is that the GCIU wasn't formed until 1983.

More old crap...

One of my favorite pre-Code musicals (the woefully neglected and impossible to find paper on), 1932's Love Me Tonight:

And from 1934 by absolute favorite W.C. Fields film (and also impossible to find paper on (in my income bracket)), It's a Gift:

The Corsican Brothers (1941); Argentine RR from 1950

Tho a later RR, what also drew me to this stone litho poster were a couple other things, besides the artwork.

First, that it was done in the landscape/horizontal format, which, I don't think, was produced as regularly. And second, what was added to the printer's info, on the lower right border, next to the lithographer's name (F Springer y Cia).  According to info from the HA website: "General Don José de San Martin is Argentina's maximum hero. In 1950, the 100th anniversary of his death, another general, General Juan Perón, decreed that all documents that year would have printed them: "1950, Ańo del Libertador General San Martin." Even all school children had to write that on every page of all their notebooks." (Plus, I can relate to the twin aspect of the movie, too.  8) )

So that historical aspect printed on the poster was something I also thought was really cool and interesting.

The main pic of the poster is courtesy of HA. They had it for auction, back in 2012, and it did not sell. So what I acquired is the very same copy, and their photo is much better than mine.

I got a few new things as well (including some Thai), but posted them on my thread.

Gingerman,I have a couple of things I posted over there specifically with YOU in mind! Check 'em out if you want. Or don't.

Anyway, one of my new posters I have questions about. It's the one below, "JOURNEY INTO BLISS". I bought this from Ari and I am intrigued by it. It looks like some wild, wigged-out experimental coolness. The director is Wenzel Storch...anyone? I don't know who he is either. I've looked it up on IMDB and the reviewers either love it or hate it (I can see why, judging by the trailer I found). I tried to track it down on DVD, but it's not available anywhere. It's in German and apparently it only had a very limited distribution. It looks like it could be amazing ...or it could be bear vomit.

Here's the poster:

Not particularly special but means a hell of a lot to me. Finally completed my Monty Python Quad collection with 'And Now For Something Completely Different'. This poster is SOOO hard to find so I'm glad to grab it. Unfortunately it has black marker bleeding through. Can a restorer fix this? It's not a big problem for me right now but one day I might think about getting it restored (even though it only cost me Ł35) as Python is such an important factor in my life and I am looking to have all my Python posters on display at some point. Thanks!

Agreed!!

Would you mind sharing a pic of the back too? Those sort of black markers are hard to remove. I have emails from restorers about  this (though my posters might have slightly different issues)

Will pm you

Nice quad, gemgem. Congrats on the pickup!

And the thing is, too.. if it was sharpie that was used on the back (and, from what others like Dario and Charlie have posted here, that it could be permanent), your restorer could retouch/airbrush/water color pencil those areas on the front where the black marker has bled through. Same goes with the tape marks on the lower right. If those cant totally be removed, light touching up will work wonders on them, too.  :D

Picked up this Thai poster the other day along with some other stuff (which I just posted on my thread instead of cluttering up this page). I've never heard of "TRAPPED" before and the poster is just sort of "okay"--until you get to the OH MY STARS axe to the head/eyeball popping off part! Ha!  Have we seen this image before? I don't recall it so i posted it here for the Thai poster fans. Nothing super special--but still kind of groovy gross at the same time.

One just right for the Halloween season, that just arrived. devil 2

A subway poster for the 1992 Columbia movie, Sleepwalkers. It measures 45 x 60 inches and is on a thicker paper stock.

Artist: Barry E. Jackson (who did the OS art for 1981's Escape From NY)

My first Thai poster and it's for Silence of the Lambs (1991)  (And SUCH A GOOD movie, too!!)

It was written in what looks like a green pencil, so that it blended more with the background color.

The Dark Knight poster comes up at every single auction, so you'll get it next time.  And you should stay clear of Fair to Good or Good posters.  Not worth your money on modern posters.  So losing the JP poster was a good thing.

This just arrived from Germany.  The seller, Stefan Schober on eBay (http://stores.ebay.com/poster-and-lobbycards), is a class act.  Highly recommended for anything from Germany.

This was delivered in one week, in darn good packaging (sandwiched between 4 sheets of strong cardboard), and he included tracking and insurance with the shipping for no additional charge.

The condition of this is the best I've seen for one of these, and since these rarely appear for sale in any condition, I couldn't pass it up.  Now I just need to send my cursed linenbacked copy to the auction block.  :P  Anyway, I may just see about getting this one flattened out, as there is virtually no fold wear.

(http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx303/NeoLoco80/DSC01515_zpsfyqe8tjt.jpg) (http://s766.photobucket.com/user/NeoLoco80/media/DSC01515_zpsfyqe8tjt.jpg.html)

Just to note, it's kind of interesting that this one for Humanoids has two stamps on the back of it.

(http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx303/NeoLoco80/DSC01516_zpslejsurdb.jpg) (http://s766.photobucket.com/user/NeoLoco80/media/DSC01516_zpslejsurdb.jpg.html)

Also, what I thought were wear marks on the copy that I had linen backed are exactly the same on this one, so maybe all of the German Humanoids posters have these marks.

(http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx303/NeoLoco80/DSC01517_zpsw8bhpqte.jpg) (http://s766.photobucket.com/user/NeoLoco80/media/DSC01517_zpsw8bhpqte.jpg.html)

Mr. Schober also included this one for Tintorera for free.  Although it's my least favorite of the wild fish movies, it's a pretty rad poster.

What's cool to see too, on the Tintotera flicker... Is that Basil Poledouris was the film's composer. He was big time and well respected. It's great that the director chose him to do it, early on in his career (it looks like it was only the 2nd film he composed, professionally).  --  clap clap

Although this one for Tintorera is darn cool, there is senseless animal cruelty throughout the entire movie, and I don't support that kind of garbage, but since it's a gift, I'll keep it in my humble collection.

That is an impressive filmography for Basil Poledouris.  Several of the films later in his career that he worked on are classics.

No, it's just the very small marks that look like dings, in the upper right section that are on both copies.  All the ink smears from Jaime Mendez Restorations were put on there by them after their sloppy linenbacking jobs, that caused creases, scratches, and/or tears that needed to be covered up.

It is kinda sad about the slew of events that led to me getting a replacement, but in the grand scheme of things, it's a learning lesson.  I'll let you know when the linenbacked copy hits the auction block.

Good to know those marks are on both your copies, Brandon. Almost like small print defects, would you say, as the print run went thru the rollers or something.

I know the marks of which you refer... the Posterfix-looking touch ups to damage and scratches that JMR caused, while your poster was in their care.  Doh.gif

It's tough to say what exactly the marks are.  They may be from the printing machine, or they could just be imperfections on the original plate or whatever.

Yeah, the touch-ups on the first run with Jaime Mendez were bad, but the damages done that required all the touch-ups (on both times with their work) are even worse.  I don't see how they could mangle it that badly, with a simple linen backing job.

On the bright side, I got a new copy, in better condition, and another rad poster as a gift, and discovered a good guy in Germany to deal with in the future.

All is cool and unique looking here, i would say. No poster is bad.

Only one thing is ever bad, as Karloff says in Bride of Frank:  ;D

It's tough to say what exactly the marks are.  They may be from the printing machine, or they could just be imperfections on the original plate or whatever.

Yeah, the touch-ups on the first run with Jaime Mendez were bad, but the damages done that required all the touch-ups (on both times with their work) are even worse.  I don't see how they could mangle it that badly, with a simple linen backing job.

On the bright side, I got a new copy, in better condition, and another rad poster as a gift, and discovered a good guy in Germany to deal with in the future.

All worked out for the best and in your favor, too, Brandon. Good on you!!  cool1

So for some reason on the main page after I logged in, some of the forum threads, like this one (Movie Posters/Latest Acquisitions), was missing/not being displayed.  I therefore posted a couple new posters I just got in the Japanese poster thread instead of here.  I only saw ALL of the headings after I clicked on the link "HOME" next to HELP/SEARCH/PROFILE, etc.  I was NOT seeing Poster Artists, Genres, Show Us Your Collection. Also didn't see Authentication, Restoration, Valuation under Common Poster Subjects as another example.

Any of the admins have any idea why this would be happening??

In any case, here's two posters I just got in today, one of which I was totally stoked to authenticate; I really think that it's the real deal, although out of all the different authentication points, the head of the little man is cut off just a little more than on an authentic U.S. onesheet.  Black shirt, cigarette smoke, green text, perfect B2 size, red/orange color matches perfectly.  Everything is telling me this is a real Japanese B2 of a U.S. film, and was printed with the original U.S. artwork like a lot of the Star Wars style A-C's were printed: no katakana, no Eirin mark, but authentic Japanese B2's nonetheless.

The other is the Red Tron 70mm B2, found a nearly perfect rolled copy to replace my folded, torn and beat up version.

Sound like you were not logged on. I'm not aware of any other member who was logged onto the forum that ever experienced this same issue before.

But based on what threads you were able and not able to see, sounds like you were viewing the "Guest Board."

Let us know if it happens again, while you are logged in. We can then see if there is some forum hiccup going on.

Sorry Rosa, no harm done.  I don't really pay attention to what people collect and I had not realized it was so ridiculously insane for me to think that you could own these two pieces, or even a Casablanca insert for that matter.  I didn't think it was that ridiculous, but I guess other people did.  My bad.
