With all the discussions surrounding Elite Poster Collectors, who they are and what makes them elite, this provides a little clarity ;)
-
I see you did your research and found my most elite of elite daybills!
-
See Mom, I told you I'd be elite someday!!
And you too shrink, always telling me snakes were phallic symbols!!
I'm elite and you are not. Suckers!
-
I can't believe you missed Holiday off, but quite amusing all the same... :D
-
I can't believe you missed Holiday off, but quite amusing all the same... :D
He clearly didn't make the 'elite' cut!

Well played, Steve.

Good thing I don't post my REALLY bad stuff... I'm not ashamed at all of my rare 1st release A1 Czech Dumbo! ;)
-
I would really like to see what your bad stuff is Harry... pcorn
-
Ha ha... should have asked that a few months ago before a sent the bulk of a theater lot to Bruce to auction for me. There were some real gems in there! Big Top Pee-Wee, I'm looking at you ;D
-

Yeah. Lucky guy... I got stuff with a wrinkled Blockbuster Black Swan... Actually, that really does about sum this elite collector up. ;D
-
May want the add ATLfun Brian too with his Azkaban lenticular...

What happened to the link?
-
Glad you all like it! It was fun to do
What happened to the link?
Yeah, I started with a link to it but then I re thought that containing it on this site would be more appropriate
-
That's hilarious - you got me right! ;D
And I do like that Godzilla poster
-
I laughed, I cried...it became a part of me.
Funny stuff, Steve-maniac!
cheers
-
Glad you remembered my best poster, thanks.

Glad you remembered my best poster, thanks.
Steve does have the eye for that.

As bad as I am, the good news is that I'm not the worst. I really just don't know where to start with this guy:

Why shouldn't he have opened an a online store?
-
Mel are you saying Adam is a fellow Elite collector, or just stirring up boring stuff?
-
Adz is certainly elite, five star and neato!
Mel and he should hook up, long distance is not ok in this case.
Mel can let Adz use his frames.
The ultimate power couple of the poster world.
-
Mel are you saying Adam is a fellow Elite collector, or just stirring up boring stuff?
I don't ever recall Adam referring to himself as some "elite, 5 star collector," either.
But I could be mistaken. coffee
-
I'm so elite nobody has the guts to join my gang!
It's lonely at the top.

It's true - I couldn't get passed the shanking initiation rites!!
-
Yep. For safety reasons I worship Ari's five starness from afar.
-

Oh, come on Stevie, your list is far from complete. Where are the entries on other elite collectors? You should employ thy wit on them as well.
Adam, whose "James Bond love affair, ultimately, has culminated in him being the owner of the world's largest invisible Bond collection" (http://www.moviememories.com/About_Us.php)?
Jeff, who has made 5,000+ "squee" posts on the various movie poster forums but who apparently doesn't actually own any movie posters? (http://WWW.POSTERNIRVANA.COM/0DNE/0-GIFS/squee.gif)
Carson, the clever and beguiling charlatan collector who reportedly sought asylum in Ecuador in 2010 after Holiday threatened to "get medieval" on him?
Mirosae, the Bogart-lusting femme collector who has somehow survived almost a year amongst the horny bastards/drunkards/nerds on this forum?
-
Mirosae, the Bogart-lusting femme collector who has somehow survived almost a year amongst the horny bastards/drunkards/nerds on this forum?
Hey I resemble that!
-
Hey! Get in line. That would seem to affirm your elitenessnessness.
cheers
-
Zorba, Is that similar "elite squared?"

So..Mel..in which category you place yourself, the horny bastard, the drunkard ....or the nerd? Looking at your posters, I will say that you could well fit in any of the three..but I am guessing more number three huh? . :-*
-
pcorn
-
I think Mel needs a category all to his own. Like "That's just Mel being Mel!"... Otherwise, I feel any description or term we apply may once again destroy his own personal poster-time-continuum resulting in collecting only late 70s B paper and selling off his current collection again...
-

Squee, squee, squee, squee, squee... all the way home.
Quizas, quizas, quizas...

Mek is like the Virgin Mary of poster collecting, except Mary is spelled Mel, and he never had a baby.
:P

Just to make people aware, members I know and members I don't, that Bondposters.com is a reference website made up of items not just from my own collection. Reason I added an online store was to sell in one place as opposed to another website in the belief it would make things easier, but this caused a problem. Bondposters.com was and is after all a reference website, so in the end having an online store was confusing for many people. Therefore, I created a new selling website and returned Bondposters.com to a reference-only website which was and is the right thing to do.
Also, with regards to the comments about "largest collection"; this was a quote from someone else and I used it naively (if some noticed, I hadn't actually changed that content since it was created 4-5 years ago). Hindsight is a wonderful thing as I should not have used that quote - I got into creating websites and content blind, so learning what to use/what not to use and what to say/what not to say in several mediums is a very interesting process and something I advise others to do - I learnt many things through completing an Advertising degree.
Not much else to say other than I just wanted people to know the above information and so I do hope Holiday and Thierry look at this and see that I should NOT have to continually defend myself to torrents of abuse from a certain member, especially with new members joining, as his words genuinely (and wrongly) damage my name. And for new members; he was invited to meet me and see my entire collection first hand even when he planned a trip to the UK, but he ignored me which should tell you everything.
ANYWAY...
If anybody is an elite collector, I put forward Simes as I do not believe he has been singled out as yet.
Very nice man. Very good collector. Very dedicated.
The other collectors I would mention have already been named.
-
Well said, and it's good to see you back and around, Adam.
And best of luck with the new online store; I hope it all comes together nicely and works out well for you.
Jeff
-
Cheers, Jeff.
Appreciate the kind words.
The site isn't completely finished but had to have it open by yesterday for the event.
-
Adam,
Be sure to make a formal announcement, here on the board somewhere, when its "officially" up 'n running for business.
Cheers!
-
I will do.
Have a date in mind so working towards it.
Thanks, Jeff.
-
Hello Adam, nice to see you posting again. Good luck with the event and site. happy1
-
Hi Paul,
Thanks.
Event was yesterday; went well, but was way too hot as there was no air conditioning - you'd think Pinewood Studios would be equipped with it.
-
Hey Adam. Good to see your
face avatar.
cheers
Did you marry that lovely lass yet?

Sounds like a cool event, Adam. How was the turnout?

Thanks Ted!
Not yet! - Waiting for several things to materialise then maybe, just maybe ...
Sounds like a cool event, Adam. How was the turnout?
Event was good, very niche market - BOND - and limited tickets - 120 - but even then things were good because people knew what they wanted. Ended up buying a DVD standee for Skyfall off the guy next to me for a very nominal amount at the end of the day! Luckily, it came with its bag and folded down.

I never thought that for a second ;)
I know that my Rt Hon Friend Dread-Pirate of Poster Island is well acquainted with the APF Gender equality ACT 2010: Every individual is equal and has equal rights without discrimination, in particular, without discrimination based on gender or sex ……..or taste in poster collection matters.
That said, I don’t normally fight Men in Tights…….but.. hey… never say never ;)

Out of curiosity, what does it take to get on the "Elite Poster Collectors" list?
-
Out of curiosity, what does it take to get on the "Elite Poster Collectors" list?
Soft lips and a Sarah Jessica Parker collection. Or if you don't have either of those, make a website that contains a whole bunch of stars and Chuck Norris slaughtering unicorns.
-
Out of curiosity, what does it take to get on the "Elite Poster Collectors" list?
Accumulation of 5 stars in experience points and a written endorsement from Melvin
-
5 box tops and a quarter.
-
A personal endorsement from Mel. No, wait...
-
if you read and understood this thread you are halfway there.

Show Steve you worst poster and misspell someting...

Nothing. There are no Elite poster collectors on this forum or anywhere else. No ***** collectors either. Just a bunch of people who enjoy a hobby and collect what they can. No collection is too small, no poster is too cheap, the only thing that matters is that it makes you happy.
The rest is just noise.

I love this breakdown. Especially because you have said it so many times and its been refined to a concise response of what its all about.

Daybill Buyers Club

And to think I always thought all you needed was to have bought a copy of Pretty Woman from Cinemasterpieces for $500.

I would too but it takes quite a bit of effort if trying to make it humorous. I don't mind if someone wants to do an update

Tho not a member here, I would say this collection is "impressive." faint2.gif
Seems this vid cannot be embedded. It's viewable only thru youtube. This clip was shot back in Aug 2001.

Thanks for sharing that, Jeff.
Kinda interesting how the two videos combined in some parts works well.
I wonder who did the work on that Charlie Chan poster at 4:20 - airbrushing the borders green. hitself
Cool video. The guy certainly seems to be an "elite" collector, and seller, in terms of the market value of the posters in his collection. cool1

Can you imagine?? UGH! Getting a poster back from a restorer, painted like that? Sounds like he sent it back to be corrected, too.
Im curious who did that touch up work, now, too. hmmm.gif

Forgive me Steve for re-arranging your quote (I put the sentence with the word "update" first to make the reader understand what we were talking about sooner.), but i also would like an update. While the original list is fun, it was done 2 years before i got on here...and many of the names mentioned had already disappeared from the board before I got on.
