I recently acquired a supposed first printing, linen-backed Style A Star Wars poster and I have strong concerns about authenticity. I don't know if this is a genuine poster, a heavily restored original or just a fake but would appreciate any opinions based on the photos below.
The word "property" has clearly been hand "corrected" and there is a "copy/paste" look to sections of the text at the bottom border (as shown in the photos).
I guess my main wonder is sloppy restoration or likely fake? Any opinions are appreciated! Thanks.

Was this an ebay buy? Or other?
This text all looks hand written (or traced over):

And this looks like someone cut and then glued this section on, with a not so good attempt to conceal those edges:

Ebay buy with guaranteed return (which I plan to do).
-
If you hold it up to the light, can you see any text underneath that glued on section, by chance?
-
No but looking through the light, you can see even more clearly the cut and paste effect.
Leaning bad fake versus sloppy restoration...no?
Good ol' Ebay.... eyeroll

From the looks of your detail pics, Im leaning that way with you. Doh.gif

Yikes. That work must have some story behind it.
Hopefully the return goes well.

You should post the ebay link.
How was this poster described on the auction page?
-
it looks to be the most pathetic restoration ever done to a damaged poster (the famous ET poster excluded)
most certainly return it and talk to one of us dealers about helping you out with something authentic & worth buying

I can't believe he has this line in there:
This rare vintage movie poster is linen backed and beautifully done.
thank heaven, this line is also:
If for any reason the buyer who wins this rare movie poster is not happy with it, he/she can always return it for a refund.

I think this photo says it all:

Thanks for the input, guys. I was skeptical from the start but the return pledge made the gamble worthwhile (at the time). The poster took a long time to ship (the seller said he had to get it back from a consignment). Was an Ebay gamble that definitely did not pay off.
-
If that seller should give you any resistance, be SURE to save all the pics he posted on that auction page as a backup, if needed. The misspell AND the fact that there is no mention of any kind of restoration (other than it being backed), in the description, along with all of the rest of the uneven, handwritten credits and that pasted-on added piece will make it a slam dunk deal in your favor.
And he also needs to refund you the 20 bucks in shipping he charged you.
Watch too, for the number of days allowed if u need to file a complaint, in case the seller balks on a refund. This auction ended on Jan 16th, so days are flying by.

Twentith Century Fox....
LOL.
I wonder if even Posterfix could be this bad.
Hey Chris, you're not the worst anymore!

Ha! That's actually a bit brilliant. I'd love to own for the lulz.

i had an email exchange with that guy back in Feb re the Wild Angels poster he had sold (was hoping he had another one)
He did say all his posters came from a consignor. I don't think the seller has any clue whats up or down poster-wise. Definitely open your claim asap!
-
HA! I saw this poster on ebay awhile back and laughed to myself at this botch job.
-
Wow faint2.gif Never seen anything like that!
I wish you the best getting your money back...
-
I'd file a claim with PayPal immediately.
Don't wait on this putz.

Ebay buy with guaranteed return (which I plan to do).
Hey Michael, has the seller agreed to take this "poster" back and give you a full refund, including shipping?
Here's hoping it all goes smoothly and that you don't have to resort to a PP/ebay claim).
-
Wow! Hope this works out for you. The poster is worthless in my opinion.
-
I see they now have it relisted so I am guessing you got a refund.

Yeah, I was thinking they could have at least made it the right color. Guess that was too hard.
