Does anyone on the forum collect any posters from WW 2?
There is one i would particularly want to own,but even if i was lucky enough to find one,i probably wouldn`t be able to afford it anyway..

I`ve always had an interest in the U-boat war.

I have an interest in WWI propaganda and Liberty Bond posters. There are a few I'd like to own, but haven't pulled the trigger on any yet
-
I have collected WWII posters for a LONG time. I have at least 200 of them. When I started, they cost a fraction of the price of the WWI ones, and I like them better.
The larger size ones (closer to one-sheet size) are far more rare (and expensive) than the smaller size (close to half sheets).

Excellent Bruce,
Are the prices generally extreme for this kind of stuff?

Stew,
I would just check out some of the ones listed on eBay to get an idea. I have seen the prices fluctuate considerably...

If it's anything like the WWI section, you're gonna have to wade through a ton of reproductions to find original issue pieces. Bruce and HA have both sold a few, so search through their archives to get idea on prices. Also check out here (http://www.internationalposter.com/search-results.aspx?keywords=WWII) to view some posters you maybe hadn't seen before. Understand that they have gallery prices, so don't get discouraged if you see something you like and the price is astronomical. To get an idea on how they price their inventory, so a search for "movie" and your jaw will drop when you see what they're asking for many not in high demand posters. It's pretty funny
-
Great Link Doc...man those prices are making me sweat...
Stew
-
Yeah, I use it as a visual reference only. If you decide to search HA's archive, most WWI & II posters fall under the "Miscellaneous" category, so choose that from the drop down menu

This is my only WWII poster. I work in renewable energy and focus on transportation fuels more specifically. This poster is currently hanging up in my office and I also use it as an intro slide to many of the presentations give. It elicits quite an emotional response in people when I talk about conservation/efficiency being as important as finding alternative source of fuel.

Some of these old rationing posters are pretty incredible. You would think that we would at least try to tap into those patriotic feelings given that we've been stuck in two wars in the middle east/central Asia going on 10 years now. Instead we are only told that we are being patriotic when we "buy". Sigh.
By the way Bruce, if you happen to have an extra one of these (or know of someone who does) I would be willing to pay a fair price. I would love to display it side by side with the poster above...

Matt --
Did you get this poster? Or was it an image you found online only?
It's one Powerful image, that's for sure.
-
No, but if anyone finds one please LET ME KNOW!
-
Its ultra-rare, or whatever comes after ultra rare actually. Maybe Bruce knows. ;)

The 'LIBERATORS' poster is by the famous Norwegian artist, Harald Damsleth, of whom I have several posters by.
These are not too rare as I have seen maybe 3-4 for sale in just the past few years.
I have seen some go cheap and others have been bid up way over market value.
The reference in the bottom right corner 'STORM-SS' is the Dutch SS newspaper publication.
Damsleth did a series of posters in this style with the little man in the foreground with large ears,
most of which can be seen if you scroll down on the page in this link...

Great info, as always, Christian.
What size (dimensions) was 'The Liberators' poster?
-
The size is 72cm x 53cm.
There is one currently for sale, although not cheap.
Prices seem to have gone up on these since the last
one I saw sell at auction...

I thought I would post the ones from the link...
You can see the running theme with the little man
and his ridiculously oversized ears in the foreground.
The 'THAT WINNING SMILE' poster at the bottom is
another that I have seen for sale several times.

Mainly for my UK colleagues - a friend of mine in the US has picked up some neat WW2 British posters he is trying to offload
He hasn't priced them yet, but I figured I would check in here. PM me if interested. Most are 20 x 30. Can get better pics of course. You don't have to be British either!

That liberator poster is a bit odd. The text in the lower left corner (guy with pamphlet) reads: USA will save Europe's culture from destruction . German sarcasm I guess.

I don't collect WW2 posters but several of them are really nice. The Norman Rockwell "Four Freedoms" posters come to mind as well as one called "America Calling" which has a beautiful rendering of a bald eagle coming in for a landing.
