Or are you???? :D
Those are great Chris. I dig those posters and the dialogue from that genre: "I needed a drink, I needed a lot of life insurance, I needed a vacation, I needed a home in the country. What I had was a coat, a hat and a gun." (Philip Marlowe)the only thing wrong with that line is that it does not appear in any Raymond Chandler novel. It is a Michael Winner construct I believe.
Thanks. It was printed in 1950 with art by Hans Otto Wendt. Saw it in a film noir poster book (The Art of Noir) and went looking for it.
My favorite so far, above, would be Chris's The Hunted, and Ves's They Won't Believe Me. All the posters are great to look at, thanks for sharing.
THE ART OF NOIR is essential for all poster collectors, as is Laurence Bassoff's privately published CRIME SCENES (and the earlier poster books on Errol Flynn and Epics).
While on poster books, Sam Sarowitz/Posteritati's book of international film posters is a fabulous treasure trove.
There's some first rate posters on this thread, I must get some more myself. Keep posting chaps. :)
Harry, those are way too cool. Is that a genuine Bacall autograph? As far as I know... and I have no reason to doubt the seller!
Nice haul, dude!
Very nice Harry...did you just acquire all these? If you did that is quite a haul all at once!Yup, just a few days ago. It was "bulk" purchase if you will. ;D
I've always wished paper on the Big Sleep was more extravagant as it is one of my favourite films of all time...
This is a question for Rich, he is as fussy about defining Noir as I am with SF.
I will not DARE tread on his toes here.
(I was waiting for him to step in and tell us which posted aren't noir)
I did a major in Media Studies/Film and Video and a Minor in Multimedia at University.
Also at College - Certificate of Art and Design with electives in Philosophy, Psychology, Addiction Studies and Creative Writing.
And a Certificate of Horticulture.
Call me DR Ari ;)
No Out of the Past is a head scratcher and I see no reason why Dead Reckoning should be at #3 - It's nicely done, but nothing special...
I finally got around to watching This Gun for Hire and The Glass Key and they were pretty bad films.
And is High Sierra really considered film noir?
As I've said before, Film Noir posters are fantastic, but the films are dull and boring,, with the odd exception...
Come on Chris, Your talking to the guy who watches Z, and B, Horror, and Sci-fi films, and I know they are terrible, but I still love them... ;) well most of them....
yeah, damn I would have thought about having a go at that. Daphne du Maurier is my favourite writer (sitting in even place with Heinlein and Poe)
I don't get how her hand joins on
Looking good!Yep. That Blonde Ice is hot.
Well I don't love three sheets generally b/c they're a pain to display but I couldn't pass up on this One Girl's Confession 3S from MPE tonight!

Only 95 posts here? But, what, why, eh. We need more noir!

Now, THOSE are some fine noir posters on your WANT list, Rosa.
cheers
No, no, no, Jeff, not on my want list, but on my THEY WILL BE MINE list. Well, including two more as you know! ;)
You may have to become noir yourself, put on your black gloves and invade the Benito Vaults, secured well below ground.
..or I could take my black gloves off. At then end of the day, it is noir ;)

Great stuff Chris. Not surprising, these are my favs... but you have a ton others I like too (Nightmare Alley, Killing, Bad & Beautiful, and on and on...).
Ah! Chris, and that means that I will also take all the Bogies. He is ''ME'' man.

I tried, he doesn't speak any English though.. i will keep trying. :)
Podemos ayudarlo. Va a ser muy divertido!
;D
Great Rosa - one of my favs
We spent a good hour looking at the 70+ posters you posted back in February Chris. I can tell you, a couple of those were added to our MUST HAVE list! ;)
Well if that's the case good thing I already have them! ;D

Ha ha!
Both releases are great - hope this one is going to be given its due by being permanently (and properly) framed
Picked up this "neo-noir" Naked Kiss (1964 US 1S SSF) tonight from HA.
The Where Danger Lives Blog (http://wheredangerlives.blogspot.com/) has a great article listing the Top 75 "neo-noir" posters:
http://wheredangerlives.blogspot.com/2013/04/75-greatest-movie-posters-of-neo-noir.html
It describes Naked Kiss as follows:
Fuller’s strange cult classic is one of the original neo noirs, and the poster is one of the few you’ll see here that is done in the classic style. Three distinctive image areas create a sense of depth and dramatic scale, while the big tagline at the top keeps your eyes from leaving the composition. Not enough negative space, but I applaud the designer for not spoiling the film’s big secret, as the designer of the film’s Criterion DVD packaging recently did.

Picked up the 1945 re-release one sheet for This Gun For Hire from the Hollywood Auction yesterday for a decent price (although certainly more than I can afford!). Unlike the original one sheet, Alan Ladd is very much the focus of this poster, which "perfectly captures the feel of early film noir."

funny word that, "albeit", apparently Middle-English: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/albeit (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/albeit)
Like em all. Hollow Triumph, Somewhere in the Night and the first German one thumbup
Bloody hell Chris what a run, I'd struggle to pick one.. Quite the ticket. thumbup
Well, Chris, if you need help storing any of those treasures, just, uh, you know.....call me..

Time for an update? Surely!
Flipping flop Chris. I WANT THEM ALL.
